Pencil pictures
Almost all children love to draw, especially if the topic of the upcoming work is free. So in winter time Very often children are asked to depict winter fun in pencil drawings. There are various pictures on this topic, of any complexity.

- We design the fence by drawing straight lines along its entire length. Behind it there will be trees, the drawing of which will need to be done at this stage. The closer the trees are to us, the larger they are. We draw the silhouette of a snowman - these are three circles located from the largest to the smallest.
- At this stage, you need to draw the tops of the trees. In order to simplify the task, you can create their general silhouette without drawing the branches. The snowman gains facial features and a bucket hat. You can also depict hands that will become tree branches.
- In the hands shown in the previous step, you will need to draw a spruce branch. From the side of the hand where the branch is depicted, we mark the top and trunk of the upcoming fluffy Christmas tree, after which we proceed to depict it in the drawing with a pencil.
- Having drawn the Christmas tree, we begin to draw up the drawing. Since the picture shows winter, it is necessary to draw snowdrifts and snow lying on the fence, trees, and snowman.
To do this, use an eraser to carefully erase the main lines and draw in the erased area. uneven lines stuck snow.

It’s worth saying that I don’t get to take part in competitions very often, because... I am either busy on the dates when the competition is held, or I am not satisfied with the criteria for selecting the winners (for example, voting is carried out in contact by the largest number likes, which are now easy to generate and get the required number). This time it so happened that the timing was good, right on new year holidays, and the selection of works was carried out by an independent jury. For this, of course, I would like to say a special thank you to the organizers of the competition.
I found out about the competition by chance when I went to the store’s website looking for paper for pastels. I was immediately interested in the idea of the competition - to create my own unique story on the theme of winter festivities, sports, and games. I immediately discarded the option of copying, because... All works were checked for uniqueness. According to one of the criteria, you also had to place the name of the store’s website on your work.
In general, I got excited about the idea of participating and began to look through what kind of games and festivities happen in winter. Having made a preliminary list various types sports and games, for several days I was thinking about what to choose from the list so that the idea would not be boring. And in the end I settled on the option of playing snowballs and skiing. And to make it completely New Year’s, I decided to add a team of snowmen to the picture. The following idea was formed - in winter forest Skiing competitions are held where children and snowmen participate. But these competitions are not enough for the teams. Right on the ski slope, several snowmen and children were having a snowball fight, and they were about to hit the skiers passing by.
The final version of the idea took shape on my last working day in 2015, December 25th. Arriving home, I very quickly, while all the images were fresh, sketched out the main idea, the location of characters and objects in a sketchbook:
As you can see, this is literally a two-three minute quick sketch with chaotic lines expressing the general idea. Why I arranged the characters and details in this way, I will tell/show you at the end of the article.
One of the next days off, I started making a more detailed sketch on A4 format with more detailed characters. In doing so, I decided to move the birds from the tree on the left to the greeting banner at the top:
When I was satisfied with the placement of objects and characters, I took A3 paper to create an even more detailed sketch, which will serve as a reference for me when I draw on A3 pastel paper:
I no longer placed birds and inscriptions here, only the location of the main objects and details on the characters.
The next step was to draw a sketch (the ability to copy or sketch came in handy here) onto the final sheet of Canson pastel paper, on which I planned to carry out the rest creative activity. Moreover, on this sheet I made all the lines with a simple pencil very thin and before putting the pastel on, I removed additional graphite from the paper with a mark, brightening the lines to the maximum.
I started working in pastels by drawing the sky and the background of the trees. Everything here is the same as in an ordinary landscape, the main thing to remember is. In large spaces I used different brands of dry pastels. I drew the details pastel pencils Derwent. The bright white areas were done with MUNGYO extra soft pastels:
By the way, in the final sketch I decided that the crow that stole the snowman’s carrot nose would sit on a branch with open wings, adding more movement in the picture - a snowman without a nose jumps to get a carrot, a crow teases him and evades him, flapping his wings. Here I carefully drew the letters on all the banners using a ruler, again trying to comply with the laws of perspective.
Having completed drawing the long-range plan, I began to work on the children. And this turned out to be the most difficult moment in the film for me. I had never drawn children before. Well, somehow it wasn’t necessary at all. And even more so their faces with emotions. Here it was necessary to draw at least 3 children's faces. I tried to Google a little, but I couldn’t find any children’s faces that matched the image in my head. I had to practice on a separate sheet of paper. The first "victim" was the girl on the left. I drew 5 or 6 girl faces on a separate sheet of paper, but they all turned out pretty scary. The last option was more or less, and I decided to reproduce it in the final version. Having completed the face, I completed the hat, hair, coat and boots. I moved a little away from the picture, Once again I was horrified at how scary the girl turned out and, having removed her face, erased the pastel completely to paper, I went to bed.
The next day, for some reason all the problems disappeared as if by hand. I have noticed more than once that if something doesn’t work out very well, you need to sleep with it and everything will work out tomorrow. As a result, the faces turned out to be more or less good-natured :-)

The final step was to draw a team of snowmen. It turned out to be quite a simple task, because The shape of the snowman is made of simple balls, so distributing light and shadow was easy. Close-up this area:

If anyone hasn’t guessed yet, the red line shows the approximate route of attention. Moreover, the trajectory works in both directions. Wherever the eye passes, blocking elements (trees, an overhead banner, a jumping snowman) block it from leaving the picture and direct it further around the circle, keeping attention inside the picture.
