Everything about the Star Wars universe. New rules of the universe

In the fall of 2012, George Lucas' studio Lucasfilm, along with all its assets. For the multi-million army of Star Wars fans, this meant exactly two things. Firstly, the space saga has returned to the silver screen. Not everyone was equally happy about the news that the epic about a galaxy far, far away was being put on the production line, but there were still many more satisfied. But what fans definitely regarded as a stab in the back is statement Disney regarding the so-called Expanded Universe. Since the spring of 2014, all released for long years under the brand Star Wars books, comics and video games are no longer considered canon. Much has already been said about the justice and possible consequences of such an act of the new owners in relation to the expanded Star Wars universe, including .

The official Star Wars are the films, a couple of animated series and all the spin-offs that were released after George Lucas sold his studio. However, everything that was released before this became, albeit licensed, fan fiction that received common name Star Wars Legends. Hundreds of stories were thrown overboard in one fell swoop.

This is first and foremost new meeting with characters from the original trilogy. But if you always thought that after the events of Return of the Jedi, Luke, Leia and Han did nothing but live happily ever after, then we have to convince you. According to the authors of numerous books and comics, the real adventures of the legendary trinity only began with the murder of the Emperor and the destruction of the second Death Star. And the further intricacy of their destinies would be the envy of “Santa Barbara.”

Skywalker and his Ben

Thus, Skywalker, being the only Jedi at that time, managed not only to take part in numerous battles and revive the Order, but also to arrange his personal life. The young man, not looking for easy ways, fell in love with a Sith named Mara Jade and even got married to her. Mara was one of those close to the Emperor and considered the killer Palpatine her sworn enemy, but circumstances developed in such a way that the Jedi and the Sith had to find themselves on the same side of the barricades. Forced combat camaraderie grew into a passionate romance. Love turned Mara to the Light side of the Force. She became a member of the Jedi High Council, gave birth to a son, Ben (in honor of Obi-Wan Kenobi), and began training her nephews, Jane and Anakin Solo.

Mr and Mrs Solo

Han and Leia, as you can see, didn’t waste their time either. In total, the princess and the smuggler had three children, and all three adopted the genes of their closest relatives and turned out to be susceptible to the Force. But if Anakin and Jane, despite their bad heredity (ahem, Darth Vader), remained faithful to the Light Side, then Jane’s twin brother, Jacen Solo, eventually joined the Sith, taking the name Darth Caedus, killed Mara Skywalker and himself fell by the hand sister. He died nobly after all. His ideas about morality were distorted with the transition to the Dark Side, but until the last he saw his goal as establishing peace and harmony. As a result, Darth Caedus became the threat that forced the galaxy, divided by civil strife, to unite again.

These family squabbles are just the tip of the iceberg. Dozens of works are dedicated to the key characters of the saga. In them, heroes quarrel, make peace, participate in new wars and at once save each other, then the entire galaxy. Luke manages to briefly glance at the Dark Side, but returns safely from there, and Leia finally discovers her potential as a Jedi and becomes a knight of the New Order founded by Luke. From the Expanded Universe, you can, for example, learn about Han Solo's early life - about his short service in the ranks of the Imperial Navy or how he saved a captured Wookiee from death, who later became his faithful comrade and part-time co-pilot.

Chewbacca on the Moon

Chewbacca's fate in Star Wars Legends is generally unenviable. After the battle on Endor (“Return of the Jedi”), Chewie liberated his home planet Kashyyyk from imperial oppression, created the Smugglers Alliance with Solo, and ultimately, after all his many adventures, died heroically in the pages of the novel “Vector Prime,” written by R. A. Salvatore. The book told about one of the most controversial episodes of the expanded universe - the invasion of the warlike race of the Yuuzhan Vong. Aggressive humanoids succeeded in genocide and reduced the population of the New Republic by 345 trillion lives. Without wasting time, they dropped the moon on Chewbacca. Literally. Chewie, Han and Anakin Solo found themselves on the planet Sernpidal at the exact moment when the Yuuzhan Vong converged orbits Sernpidal and his companion Dobido. During the evacuation of civilians, Chewie managed to throw Anakin into the Millennium Falcon, but he himself remained on the dying planet. His death caused severe psychological trauma to Khan, from which he took a long time to recover.

Return of Boba Fett

Surprisingly, things turned out well for the negative characters in the expanded universe. The public's favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett, as it turned out, did not die in the mouth of the Tatooine monster Sarlacc. Mandalorian armor helped him survive and a missile fired in time, thanks to which Boba, it turns out, got out of the monster. For a long time after that he hid, taking advantage of the fact that he was considered dead in the galaxy; declassified when his reputation was threatened by an impostor; served as a double agent for the Yuuzhan Vong during their expansion; made peace with Han Solo; and even took part in the training of his daughter Jane, who at that moment was following the trail of her brother who had joined the Dark Side.

Luke on the other side

Emperor Palpatine also did not remain among the dead for long. The powerful Sith prudently mastered the technique of mind transfer even after death physical shell the spirit of Darth Sidious, albeit not immediately, nevertheless reached the planet Byss, where his own clones, prepared in advance, were waiting for him. It was the resurrected Emperor who turned Luke to the Dark Side, and only with the support of his sister was the Jedi able to return to the right path and stop the insidious plans of the Lord of the Sith (this happened in the Dark Empire comic book series from Dark Horse). After destroying all the spare clones, Palpatine tried to possess the newborn Anakin Solo, but a Jedi named Empathoyios Brand sacrificed himself to plunge the Emperor's spirit into the depths of the Force, from where he would certainly never emerge.

The “living dead” includes the red-skinned Darth Maul. The Sith who was halved in The Phantom Menace did not die, but ended up on the landfill planet Loto Minor. There he installed cybernetic prosthetic legs and began to gradually go crazy, living like a hermit until his brother Savage Opress saved him. Having come to his senses and getting back on his feet (in every sense), Maul declared a hunt for Obi-Wan Kenobi, fought him repeatedly, but was ultimately defeated by his own teacher, who had renounced his student - Darth Sidious. Formally, Maul's story can even be considered canonical, since it is revealed in the Clone Wars series, which Disney has not renounced. But still, those who do not go beyond the films are unlikely to ever find out.

Facts from books that you didn't know about (but that doesn't matter anymore)

If ignored literary biographies old characters can still be reconciled, if only because some of them got new ones screen life, then abandoning heroes who appeared exclusively in the Expanded Universe is a more serious loss. A lot of heroes and villains were thrown into the trash, whose character development, background and adventures could rival even those of the Star Wars film frontmen. One of them can be considered Grand Admiral Thrawn from the series of books by Timothy Zahn. Palpatine's blue-skinned protégé, a tactical genius, one of the key figures in the Imperial Navy - he made a lot of noise in the New Republic after the death of the Emperor. Mara Jade, by the way, also first appeared in books dedicated to the odious Grand Admiral, so Thrawn indirectly influenced the fateful meeting between Skywalker and his future wife.

It is not very clear whether the existence of Darth Bane from the trilogy by Drew Karpyshyn (one of the leading writers of BioWare) should be considered canonical. Bane is an ancient Sith who lived many, many years before the events of the films. It was he who formulated one of the main rules of the Dark Side: “There should always be two Siths - a teacher and a student. No more and no less." This credo was repeatedly voiced in Lucas's films, but no one mentioned its author.

Also behind the scenes there was a whole scattering of secondary, but no less interesting personalities. For example, Han Solo's fellow countryman and colleague is the Corellian smuggler Dash Rendar. Having observed neutrality for a long time, Dash, by chance, nevertheless joined the Rebel Alliance, took part in the battle on the planet Hoth (the same one from The Empire Strikes Back) and assisted Lando Calrissian in the search for Boba Fett and the frozen Han Solo. Or Boba's daughter - Eileen Vel. She followed in her father's footsteps, becoming one of the best hunters bounty, but was eventually killed by Jacen Solo.

Dark Forces and Old Republic

Video games have also brought a lot of good things into life in a galaxy far, far away. Many fans consider Kyle Katarn, the main character of Star Wars: Dark Forces and one of the key characters in the Jedi Knight series, to be one of the strongest Jedi in the Expanded Universe. Kyle was the teacher of Mara Jade (by the way, you could play as her in the Jedi Knight: Mysteris of the Sith add-on), took part in the destruction of the Death Star, having obtained its blueprints, raised a talented student named Jaden Korr, and was also one of the Jedi , who fought with the son of Han Solo, who had joined the Sith.

Players are also familiar with Revan from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The hero of the Old Republic, rushing between the Light and Dark sides of the Force, was loved by the public, so BioWare returned him to the online Star Wars: The Old Republic, and the already mentioned Drew Karpyshyn dedicated the novel of the same name to Revan.

Creating one of game characters and was completely initiated by Lucas himself. We're talking about Galen Marek, aka Starkiller from the slasher film Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Galen's father, Jedi Kento Marek, was killed in front of his son by Darth Vader. The Sith spared the boy, sensing the Force in him, and took him with him. Subsequently, Starkiller became secret student Vader, carrying out his secret orders, directed not so much against the Resistance as against the Empire and Palpatine personally. Force Unleashed, like its sequel released two years later, had several alternative endings that interpreted events differently. Died somewhere main character, somewhere Vader could be killed. And in one of the add-ons they even allowed Han Solo and Chewbacca to be used up.

Refusal of many years of baggage has simplified life not only for the writers, relieving them of the obligation to keep the contents of hundreds of books and comics in their heads, but also for new viewers who absolutely don’t care about this Expanded Universe of yours. For those who still mourn her, it remains a consolation to say that no one excludes the possibility of using storylines or at least minor elements of “Legends” in subsequent films - if not in numbered episodes, then at least in spin-offs. Even in The Force Awakens, if you wish, you can find a couple of references, although it is not a fact that they were intentional.

On December 17, 2015, the long-awaited premiere of the next part of the space saga “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” took place, which is the first film of the third trilogy. This is an excellent reason to review all parts of the epic, especially for those who have not yet seen the cult films. But in what chronology should you watch Star Wars?

How to watch? There are options

The correct chronology of Star Wars is a complicated matter. Not only films and cartoons have been made about this universe, but also many books, comics, and video games have been created. On this moment two trilogies have been released, and the third has begun, not counting animated series. If you want to become more fully acquainted with the intricacies of the plot, then the chronology of Star Wars, films and cartoons given in this article will be useful to you.

The fact is that the first film, released in 1977, is the fourth part of the saga. Yes, the idea of starting from the middle is quite unusual, and this approach has generated a lot of controversy among fans.

How to watch Star Wars correctly? The chronology of events in the saga begins with the Battle of Yavin, shown in the 1977 film. And the fourth film begins thirty years before the destruction of the Death Star. For this reason, there are three options for watching the episodes in order. Let's take a closer look at them.

In order of release

Still, many fans of the epic believe that the immediate chronology of Star Wars by year from the Battle of Yavin does not matter, and the films should be watched in the order intended by the creator. The first will be the film “Star Wars. Episode IV: New Hope"1977, that is, by episode numbers 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3.

This will allow you to perceive the plot the way the first viewers perceived it in the distant seventies; the same questions will arise, the same secrets will interest you. As you start watching the first episode, released in 1999, you'll begin to find new Interesting Facts and perceive the backstory through the prism of previous parts.

In addition, with this order, the quality of the picture and special effects will increase and not decrease, as with other options.

The conclusion suggests itself - if you are not familiar with the chronology of Star Wars, you have not watched any of the episodes, and are not aware of the twists and turns of the plot, then watching the films in the order of release will allow you to appreciate the beauty of the non-linearity of the epic. The same should be done with animated works.

Machete Method

This method was invented by fans of the film. It is suitable for both fans who have seen all the episodes many times, and for newcomers. So, machete order: first you need to watch the fourth episode, where we meet young Luke Skywalker, his teacher Obi-Wan, Princess Leia, Han Solo, the villain Darth Vader and see the destruction of the Death Star. In the fifth episode, we watch the battle between Luke and Vader, and also learn about the family ties of the heroes.

The viewer has a question: “What happened to Darth Vader? Why did he become a Sith? And he immediately receives an answer. The fifth episode is followed by the second and third, which tell about the past of Darth Vader.

And the viewing ends with the sixth episode - this is the finale, which, thanks to this order, becomes more understandable. This ignores the first episode, which does not have a significant impact on the plot of the entire saga as a whole. Thus, the machete method allows you to get a good understanding of the basis of the plot of Star Wars. The viewer watches two films about Luke, two films about Anakin and a single ending that unites their stories.

The machete order shows Luke Skywalker's story well. After the viewer understands what happened to Anakin and why he turned to the dark side, the plot returns to Luke and shows how he saves the good that remains in his father.

Star Wars chronology

Finally, the last method of watching a movie epic. We will look at it in more detail, since animated series also occupy their place here.

What's the third way to watch Star Wars? The episode chronology for this method has great importance. That is, the first film will be “Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace" 1999, and then by episode numbers - 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Viewing by episode numbering allows you to follow the plot in the order of events.

Next, we will consider an expanded list of canonical Star Wars works according to the chronology of the universe, including cartoons. The chronology begins from the events of the fourth episode, that is, before the Battle of Yavin, in which the Death Star was destroyed, and after, BBY and ABY, respectively.

"Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace"

This film was released in 1999 and is the fourth Star Wars film released. The film takes place in 32 BBY. The Star Wars chronology begins here. In the first episode, the viewer meets little Anakin Skywalker, the queen of the planet Naboo Padme Amidala and Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Jedi rescue the boy Anakin from slavery after discovering the Force in him.

This film was received coolly by fans; it was considered too childish. However, it was so highly anticipated that it was almost 10 times the cost of making the film.

"Star Wars. Episode II: Attack of the Clones"

The second episode, released in 2002, chronicles the events that took place in 22 BBY, ten years after the Battle of Naboo. Anakin Skywalker is now 19 years old and is Obi-Wan's apprentice. An assassination attempt is made, and the investigation leads to representatives of the Sidhe. Meanwhile, Chancellor Palpatine receives special powers and begins the Clone Wars.

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars"

Under this name lie a mini-series, a full-length film and a full-length series, which will be released until 2016. So, what cartoons illustrate Star Wars? The chronology of the films continues with the first animated part of the saga --- a mini-series released from 2003 to 2005. It is also called "Clonic Wars". The series takes place in 22 BBY. It describes the adventures of Obi-Wan and Anakin during the war between the clone armies of the Republic and the Separatists. The episodes are short, in the first and second seasons their duration is only 3 minutes, in the third - 12-15.

In 2008, a full-length animated film was released covering the events between the second and third episodes of the epic. The clone war continues. The plot again focuses on familiar heroes - Jedi knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, politician Padmé Amidala and everyone's favorite Star Wars chronology says that the events of this cartoon took place in 21 BBY.

In 2008, another series began, telling about the clone wars. The film of the same name was the pilot episode of this project. This time, a full-fledged series with 22-minute episodes appears before the viewer. Every 4-5 of them are united by a single storyline. 121 episodes were released, the project closed in 2014. Unlike feature films, the format of the series allows not only to describe the fate of the main characters, but also to devote enough time minor characters. The events take place in 21-19 BBY, which brings us to the next feature film.

"Star Wars. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith"

The third episode of the epic was released in 2005. The action takes place in 19 BBY. The clone wars end in the final, decisive battle. Viewers see the birth of the dark Empire and the appearance of the Sikh Darth Vader. The attitude towards this part among both critics and fans is generally positive.

"Star Wars: Droids"

This first animated television series based on the Star Wars universe was released in 1985. It takes place in 15 BBY and stars the beloved droids C-3PO and R2-D2. Charming robots experience various adventures, encounter Boba Fett, agents of the Galactic Empire, gangsters and pirates.

"Star Wars Rebels"

What is the newest Star Wars cartoon? The chronology of the films continues with the animated series, which started in 2014. It tells about the events of 4-5 BBY. Before the start of the series, the viewer could get acquainted with the main characters through four short films. The first episode was a forty-minute film. Heroes familiar from the epic appear in the series only sporadically. The team is at the center of the story spaceship called "Ghost".

"Star Wars: Rogue One"

Work on this film is almost complete, it will be released in 2016, and, as you can see, it is already taking its place in the chronology. The plot centers on the theft of the Death Star plans.

"Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope"

Slowly but surely we are approaching the zero point of reference for the events of the Star Wars universe. It was in the fourth episode of Star Wars that the landmark Battle of Yavin took place, during which the Death Star was destroyed.

This episode premiered in 1977, but he began working on the script back in 1974. Now it’s hard to believe that the management of many studios considered the film about space Jedi uninteresting. However, the space saga is already approaching its fortieth anniversary, and the very first film about Luke Skywalker is still watched and rewatched by millions of fans.

"Star Wars. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back"

After 3 years, the next, fifth episode of the saga comes out. The same number of years pass in the fantasy world - the events of the 3rd year ABY unfold before the eyes of the audience. Although the Battle of Yavin has been won, the war is not over. Darth Vader is searching for Luke Skywalker across the galaxy. Initially, this film was not very well received by critics, but over time its shortcomings began to be considered advantages, and the film itself was considered almost the best of the epic.

"Star Wars. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi"

The sixth episode, released in 1983, takes place in 4 ABY. The final duel between Luke and his father takes place. The film was received positively by critics, but is considered the weakest of the trilogy. However, the scene in the lair is one of the most memorable.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens"

The 2015 premiere tells the story of the events that happened 34 years after the great Battle of Yavin, and is the first film in a new trilogy. The viewer again meets the Jedi Luke, his sister Leia and friend Han Solo, but the main characters are new characters - the girl Rey, the pilot Poe Dameron and the former stormtrooper Finn.

In conclusion, I would like to draw the viewer’s attention to the fact that the viewing order greatly influences the impression of the entire saga. If you look by year of release, the focus is on Luke Skywalker, his heroism and saving his father, and if in episode order, the focus is on Anakin Skywalker, his fall and subsequent ascension. Decide for yourself which Star Wars viewing chronology is closest to you.

Just recently, Star Wars Comics #1 appeared. It would seem that this is just another issue telling about the adventures of the heroes of the famous franchise. From a plot point of view, this issue does not play a special role, but for a galaxy far, far away, it marked the beginning new era: Star Wars is now part of the Marvel Megaverse. The first issue of the Guide will be dedicated to this event, in which you can learn about all the released and upcoming films, comics, books and other media in the new canon.

Movies

Six films created by the brilliant George Lucas have long ago acquired cult status. This is where you should start getting acquainted with the universe. Discover a galaxy far, far away from the prequel trilogy ( episodes I-III) or from the original trilogy (episodes IV-VI) - it's up to you. If you want to focus on wonderful adventure, it is worth looking by release date. If you are more interested in observing the inner experiences of the characters, then watching episodes 1 to 6 will give you an amazing tragedy.

After watching the saga, you should pay attention to two animated films:

    • Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a kind of prologue to the series of the same name and tells about the acquaintance of Anakin Skywalker with his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. The events of the film take place after the second episode.

  • Star Wars. Rebels: Spark of Rebellion— an hour-long prequel to the series “Rebels”, telling the story of a company of daredevils who decided to fight the Empire. This animated film allows you to learn a lot of new and interesting things about what happened between the third and fourth episodes.

In future:

The premiere of the long-awaited film will take place on December 18 this year. Star Wars. Episode 7: The Force Awakens, and over the next few years, five more serial parts of the saga and four spin-offs will be released.

Series

The best way to immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe is to watch the two canonical series. The extended story of familiar and not so familiar characters will make you anxiously await the release of each episode and involuntarily shed a tear at the end of each season.

  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a fascinating chronicle of military action with beloved characters on the front lines. Battles between armies of clones and droids, ruthless battles of huge fleets in the vastness of the galaxy, amazing adventures and cunning intrigues merge into a wonderful animated series. And don’t be fooled by the childish visual style: this series sometimes tells dark, truly adult stories, full of cruelty. A total of 6 seasons were released with 20-22 episodes each. For the most ardent fans of the franchise, 4 unfinished episodes have also been released that can be watched.

  • Star Wars Rebels. The series, which only recently began airing, is already delighting us with interesting details about life in the Empire five years before Luke and Ben met. So far, the episodes are too childish, the characters are too naive, and the plots are too simple. However, the Inquisitor, whose duties include finding and luring Force-sensitive children to the dark side, as well as destroying the surviving Jedi, has already managed to intrigue all fans a galaxy far, far away. In total, 12 episodes and 4 mini-episodes have been released so far, as well as 10 very interesting promotional videos in the form of news that you can watch.

In future:

A new episode of “Rebels” will appear on March 2, and the second season of the series will soon be released.

Comics

A format that allows the most daring ideas of the authors to be realized, because not all stories are ready to be released to the screens by producers from Disney. This makes comics especially valuable to fans. If you love Star Wars, then these series are a must-read:

  • Star Wars: Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir. The favorite character of the author of this text received his own small but detailed comic book. The tragedy of Maul, of course, will never compare in its epochal significance and significance with the fate of Anakin Skywalker, but it is still capable of making readers empathize and sympathize. Maul's story has always been mysteriously attractive and monstrously cruel towards the little Zabrak, who by chance ended up with Darth Sidious. Growing up in fear and deprived maternal love the anti-hero never became a real Sith lord, he was only a killer, a tool in the hands of a manipulator. The lack of proper attention to the character's personality in the film and series did not allow viewers to understand the hero's motives. And only four issues of this comic for the first time showed Darth Maul not as an emotionless villain, but as a real person.

  • Star Wars: Rebels - Ring Race. Curious solely from a plot point of view, the comic was exclusively released in Star Wars Rebels Magazine No. 1. Unfortunately, it was the plot that turned out to be the weakest element of the work: it is too simple and predictable, although it sheds light on one important detail. But the visual style of the comic was a pleasant surprise: it has a special charm. But still buy a magazine for this reason little adventure definitely not worth it.

  • Star Wars(2015) - the newest comic book series published by Marvel has already become a hit, and only 2 issues have been released so far. The quality of performance is excellent, the plot is intriguing, and the main characters have already become part of interesting story. Miss this one good comic no true fan of the franchise can.

  • Star Wars: Darth Vader— George Lucas dedicated the entire saga to the personal tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, a person with a very deep inner world. His experiences, motives and actions are always justified, there is a specific reason behind every action, and his story can leave few people indifferent. Each new page from his media biography - be it a film, TV series or comic book - makes you watch every step of the hero with rapture. That is why every fan should read the first issue of Darth Vader, which is literally woven from the pain and hatred of Skywalker.

In future:

The sequel will be released on February 25 Star Wars: Darth Vader; The debut will take place on March 4 new series comics Star Wars: Princess Leia; On March 11, the third issue will reach the shelves of digital stores Star Wars(2015); the first issue of the prequel to the series "Rebels" Star Wars: Kanan: The Last Padawan, which tells the story of a Jedi who survived Order No. 66, will be available for purchase on April 1. Read about how and where you can purchase Marvel comics.

Instead of entertainment and spectacular scenes, there is a leisurely narrative and monologues that perfectly reveal your favorite images. If you are ready to spend quiet and cozy evenings with a good book, then these literary works about Star Wars characters you will not be disappointed:

  • Star Wars: Tarkin- a novel whose main character is Wilhuff Tarkin, one of the most brutal officials of the Galactic Empire. The plot of the work takes place 5 years after the Clone Wars and tells the story of the life of the governor of the Outer Rim, driven only by his hatred of the enemies of the Empire. One of most important achievements In the novel, oddly enough, it turned out that Palpatine finally received a name - Sheev.

  • Star Wars: A New Dawn- a Jedi named Kanan Jarrus, who survived the destruction of the order, survived in a cruel world ruled by the Sith. Trying by any means to hide his past and avoid the fate of his comrades, the hero soon realizes that sooner or later he will have to take a fateful step and begin the fight against the Empire.

  • Star Wars: Blade Squadron, Star Wars: One Thousand Levels Down And Star Wars: The End of History- some interesting stories released in different rooms magazine Star Wars Insider. Blade Squadron from Star Wars Insider#149 and #150 feature one of the unused scenes from episode six: an elite squadron of B-wing starships are sent on a dangerous mission during the Battle of Endor. One Thousand Levels Down from issue 151 follows the fate of two Alderaanians trying to escape an Imperial genocide. The End of History tells the story of Mira Nadrinakar, a girl who kept Jedi artifacts for many years after the destruction of the order. This story ran in issue 154.

In future:

Very soon in Star Wars Insider No. 156 will appear short story about pilots Last Call at the Zero Angle, and in No. 157 - a little story Darth Sidious and Darth Vader called Orientation; a novel will also be dedicated to these two Siths Lords of the Sith, out April 28; you can read about the fate of another servant of the dark side of the Force, Asaj Ventress, on July 7 in the book Dark Discipline.

Star Wars location in Marvel

The Marvel Universe has a complex multi-level structure. The basis is made up of the so-called “Earths”, “chronologies” and “sequences”, each of which exists in a unique time and space. All classic versions of the characters live on Earth-616, which, in addition to the planet itself, includes all the surrounding galaxies. Alternate and parallel universes (such as Earth-1610 "Ultimate" or Earth-199999, in which the films are set) contain the same characters, but provide new perspectives on their stories and destinies. All realities connected to the classic one make up the Marvel Multiverse. But if the sequence has nothing to do with the main timeline, then it is part of the Megaverse. So, Star Wars will be located in the Megaverse for now, so you shouldn’t expect a full-fledged “Avengers vs. Sith” crossover in the coming years.

In this article you will learn:

The universe is truly enormous, consisting of a trillion galaxies. But one galaxy is the most interesting, since it was in it that all the significant events of Star Wars took place.

The Star Wars galaxy has a diameter of 120,000 light years or 37,000 parsecs (1 parsec = 3.258 light years). There is a black hole at the center of the Galaxy. There are two satellite galaxies revolving around the Galaxy, one of which is called the Rishi Labyrinth. There is a hypercosmic disturbance at the edge of the Galaxy, which makes all hypercosmic routes beyond the disk impossible.

There are about 400 billion stars in the Galaxy, and about half of them have planets suitable for the existence of living organisms. At 10%, life reached a developed stage, and at every thousandth, creatures endowed with intelligence appeared among them. The galaxy is populated by about 100 quadrillion various forms life.

All characters and events by tag.

History of the Galaxy:

The first formation was the Infinite Rakata Empire. Galaxy like formal education began to exist millennia later, when people discovered hyperspace travel and came into contact with alien races. When several worlds and species learned about each other, they formed a loose commonwealth that adopted common laws and currency. The Republic has become the main form of government in this Galaxy. The Sith Empire, which was inferior in size, moved into opposition to the Republic, and it was here that the great confrontation in religion and the understanding of the Force arose. The Sith were defeated and revived several times. Finally, after thousands of years of hidden existence, the Sith were able to restore their Empire, dissolving the Republic and replacing it with the short-lived Galactic Empire. Imperial tyranny lasted two decades, but after the Galactic civil war In the end, the Republic was restored. Despite this, the remaining imperials continued to resist the new government for more than ten years, until a peace treaty was signed. After the truce, a race from another galaxy known as the Yuuzhan Vong began invading the galaxy. Their invasion devastated most galaxies, including the capital of Coruscant, although in the end the invaders were defeated, and some of the Yuuzhan Vong joined the galactic community. After the victory over the Yuuzhan Vong, over the course of a century and a half, changes in the form of government took place in the Galaxy, including the restoration of the Empire, this time not associated with dark side. The New Galactic Empire fought with the recreated New Sith Order.

Astrography:

The galaxy is divided into several regions. Regions are sorted by degree of distance from the Galactic center. Each region, in turn, is divided into sectors, systems and planets.

Core

In the very heart of the Galaxy there is a small region - the Core. The worlds included in it are unusual: due to the gravitational influence large number stars, local time in them is partially curved, which in best case scenario creates problems for travel through hyperspace. The region was considered inaccessible until Emperor Palpatine established several safe routes. The area remained a stronghold of the Empire for nearly twenty years after the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY.

Core Worlds

An ancient region bordering the outer zones of the Core, the Core Worlds, contains some of the most prestigious, well-developed, famous and densely populated planets in the Galaxy. The Core Worlds are the ancestral domains of the human race. The Galactic Republic and subsequently the galactic government were born in the Core Worlds and spread their influence throughout the Galaxy. It is here that the planet Coruscant is located, which was the capital of the Galaxy during the times of the Republic and the Empire. The people presumably originate from this region.

Colonies

The Colonies are a region of the Galaxy between the Core Worlds and the Inner Rim. It was one of the first areas to be colonized, and worlds here are typically densely populated and industrialized. During its reign, the Galactic Empire actively used force to subjugate the Colonies, so the New Republic quickly gained support in the region.

Inner Ring

The Inner Rim is the region between the Colonies and the Expansion Region. It was originally called simply "The Ring" as it was considered for centuries to be the outermost space of the known Galaxy, but hundreds of years after the Inner Ring the Extended Ring was discovered. During Palpatine's reign, the Galactic Empire ruled the Inner Rim ruthlessly. But instead of resisting, many residents of the region chose to flee to the Outer Rim. After the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Empire, despite its unpopularity, maintained control of the region for much longer than expected. Many subsequently resented the New Republic's slowness in liberating the region. And even after joining the New Republic, many worlds openly feared that the government was not strong enough to hold power. Their doubts were resolved upon Palpatine's return when the Empire reclaimed most of the Inner Rim.

Region of Expansion

The Expansion Region became the site of an experiment in corporate control over worlds. Powerful corporations actively exploited the planets for their own benefit, extracting materials, metals and ores from them. The local population was oppressed while corporations sucked all the resources from entire star systems. Eventually, popular unrest began to spread from system to system. Due to constant pressure from the inhabitants, the Galactic Republic established control over the systems, limiting or completely rejecting the demands of corporations. The Expansion Region remains a supplier of raw materials, but natural resources were largely depleted by the Age of Empire.

Middle Ring

With less natural resources than its neighboring regions, the Mid-Rim is a region where residents are forced to make great efforts for everything they have. Some planets have developed impressive economies. Pirates often hide in relatively unexplored areas, far from major trade routes.

Outer Rim

The Outer Rim is the last well-developed territory before Wild Space and the Unknown Regions. It is scattered with isolated worlds and harsh, primitive frontier planets. Due to its distance from the Center, the region turned out to be home to many Alliance supporters. At one time, Imperial Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin received difficult task- bring order to the entire Outer Rim.

Beyond the Outer Rim

Several sectors are located outside the Outer Rim in different sleeves galaxies. Intergalactic travel is considered impossible due to the turbulent energy field surrounding the Galaxy.

Sleeve Tingel

The Tingel Arm is an arm of the outer spiral of the Galaxy. It houses the Corporate Sector, a political entity partially independent of the Galactic Republic and Galactic Empire. Under the Galactic Empire, the sector expanded from several hundred to thirty thousand systems.

Unknown Regions

The name "Unknown Regions" usually refers to the large unexplored area between Bakura and the Imperial Remnants, which is largely dominated by the Chiss. The Unknown Regions consist of several billion stars outside the 400 billion that make up the Galaxy. For reasons as yet unknown, only a small number of reliable hyperspace routes exist in the region. The concept of "Unknown Regions" includes unexplored regions in dense nebulae, globular clusters and galactic halos.

Wild Space

Wild Space is the boundary of the galactic community, separating the explored parts of the Galaxy from the Unknown Regions. Towards the end of his reign, Palpatine made attempts to explore the region in more detail. Wild Space differs from the Unknown Regions in that parts of the region have been explored, although not in great detail. The Unknown Regions, on the other hand, remain a mystery.

Transport Routes

Hyperspace routes are laid through the sectors. Pilots involved in establishing new routes are called “Hyperspace Explorers.” These include, for example, Gav Daragon and Aitro Kurnacht. Astromech droids are responsible for guiding ships along hyperspace routes.

  • Rimman trade route
  • Perlem trade route
  • Hidian way
  • Corellian Way
  • Corellian trade route
  • Kessel Arc
  • Ison Trade Corridor
  • Arc of Sisera
  • Arrow Mito

Power and politics:

Over the millennia, various governments have operated in the Galaxy, and the earliest pan-galactic entity is the Infinite Empire. The most common is the Republic. Other smaller political entities in the Galaxy are presented below:

  • Nerd space
  • Centralia
  • Chiss Domain
  • Confederacy of Independent Systems
  • Confederation
  • Corporate sector
  • Mandate of the Crown
  • Empire of the Hand
  • Region of Expansion
  • Hapes Cluster
  • Hutt space
  • Remnants of the Empire
  • Sector Juvex
  • Sector Senex
  • Ssi-ruuvi Empire
  • Tion Cluster
  • Tion Hegemony
  • Vagaari Empire

Economy:

The galactic economy is complex and diverse. The main monetary unit of the Galactic Republic is a credit equal to 10 decicreds.

Races and species:

Life exists on 10% of the planets in the Galaxy, but only on one in a thousand of these planets has its development reached a stage characterized by the appearance of intelligent beings. There are about 20 million such species. In total, there are about 100 quadrillion different life forms. The dominant species is humans. Supposedly originating from the Core Worlds, humans formed the major governments of the Galaxy. Representatives of other races are usually called simply “aliens.” Aliens are also divided into humanoids and non-humanoids. Droids, while not considered a separate race for obvious reasons, play a prominent role in the community, helping to coexist the species. On Naboo, highly intelligent droids are considered equal to sentient beings.

Extragalactic connections:

It is believed that at some time in the past, in an unknown manner and for unknown purposes, the Galaxy was visited and came into contact with local species extragalactic aliens.

Despite the fact that intergalactic travel is impossible due to the turbulent energy field surrounding the Galaxy, by the time of the Clone Wars it was possible to establish communication with two satellite galaxies, one of which is called the Labyrinth of Rishi. The intergalactic banking clan was able to spread its influence over them.

The Extragalactic Society is an organization dedicated to the search for life forms outside the Galaxy. In the last days of the Republic, Senator Greblips, the leader of the planet Brodo Agosi, equipped an expedition to another galaxy, but all information about its outcome is at least suspicious. Rumor has it that the expedition was sent to a Galaxy called the Milky Way.

The most famous extragalactic races: the Abominor/Silentium, the Kua, the Ssi-Ruuk and, of course, the Yuuzhan Vong invaders, who managed to almost destroy the galactic civilization, which had just recovered from the Galactic Civil War.

Languages:

The universal language of the Galaxy became human, which transformed into the main galactic language. It is derived from common human language and includes partial borrowings from several ancient human languages, such as Old Corellian. Because humans dominate the galaxy, the primary language is adopted by many alien races.

The second common language is the Hutt language, which spread due to the criminal and financial activities of the Hutts. This language is adopted by races that have worked closely with the Hutts for centuries, such as the Rodians.

Droids have the ability to remember millions of forms of communication and, based on them, understand and use more larger number languages. Acting as translators, protocol droids are extremely useful in interracial contacts.
