For the umpteenth time, I wanted to leave a comment on someone else’s post, but I got so carried away that I wrote so much text that I had to put it in my post.

How many times have I moved? I had to pack containers to move thousands of kilometers from Chukotka to Central Asia, from Asia to the Urals. There were also a lot of moves over short distances and within the same city.
Every time everything was carefully packed (even for a 10 km journey), since I always felt very, very sorry for the furniture, dishes and all my things. Each scratch upset me greatly, since it was unknown when the item would be replaced with a new one.

So, I will describe my experience.

1. To pack the “move” I needed: cardboard boxes of different sizes, bags of different sizes and huge ones for things (you can also find them in the construction market for pennies), thick oilcloth (bought by the meter at the construction market), tape, rope, old newspapers/wrapping paper / cardboard (for interlayer), marker (chalk, pencil - for marks on furniture).

Why a marker? Because it is most convenient for them to leave marks on cardboard, tape, bags, oilcloth - on all packaging surfaces.
I wrote numbers on each box with a marker and wrote down in detail what was in each box in a notebook. You don’t have to write it down, but I can tell you from experience that you won’t unpack all the boxes at once, sometimes things continue to live in boxes on the mezzanine or in the garage, and even in the first days of moving, finding an item, breaking all the boxes, is a lot of time and nerves. So I advise you not to be lazy. It is also sometimes useful to use a marker to indicate on the box where the top is.

For example, I labeled boxes with kitchen utensils “Kitchen 1, kitchen 2,” etc. You can also abbreviate them as “K1.” When unloaded, these boxes immediately rushed into the kitchen.

I also started preparing for the move a couple of months before. I started by looking for boxes, both large and small. I myself went to nearby shops and stalls, they often display boxes there, and did not hesitate to ask (organized removal of cardboard is not provided everywhere). She gave my husband and son tasks to do: on the way home, it was mandatory to grab a couple of boxes, because we needed them - the sea.
Of course, you can buy boxes, now many large markets provide this, but!!! I needed so many boxes that I was not ready to part with a certain amount of money for purchased boxes.

3. It’s convenient to pack things (winter and others, bedding, etc.) in large bags, we’ll also draw numbers on them, I somehow ignored this moment, and I had to suffer, since our things were unpacked for a month or more, and I I often had to rummage through several bags until I found what I needed
Another tip: if you unpack things right away, then when packing, put everything in bags, and if not, then you need to separately put winter things that are required now, etc.

4. Furniture. This is where everyone decides for themselves how much to disassemble it for transportation. It’s good if the furniture is made of pure wood. We had cabinet furniture. On the one hand, if such furniture is assembled once, then each disassembly and reassembly subsequently affects its stability and strength. On the other hand, if you do not disassemble it, then there is a risk of damage, tearing out entire pieces of chipboard from the furniture at the joints and fastenings, and loosening the furniture.
Here you need to think about how it will be more convenient to transport such furniture, hold it and carry it, lift it.
It is better to pack the fittings from all the disassembled furniture separately (signed) in bags or small boxes, then putting everything in one box. We were the last to take this box out of the apartment, because after all the furniture is loaded, the apartment remains empty and then it becomes clear that some kind of hook or something needs to be unscrewed. All these little things are put into a box with accessories.
If you don’t have furniture assembly diagrams, you can use chalk or pencil to label inside the furniture parts what it belongs to and where it goes.

How we did it: we removed glass and mirror doors and shelves from the furniture. The shelves were lined with newspapers to protect them from chipping. sometimes with towels, packed separately, several shelves in one package. The same was true for glass doors. If the simple doors were not removed, then they were secured with tape to prevent them from swinging open. From the outside, I dressed the furniture in bags made of thick double oilcloth (I simply didn’t cut the oilcloth lengthwise, but separated the layers and got a bag without a bottom), pulled the bag over the top of the furniture body and secured it with tape. This saved my furniture from chips and scratches. We removed the drawers to make moving furniture easier.

If you are transporting a kitchen set, for example, then you simply take out everything from the inside along with the shelves (well, you can put light things - clothes, bedding) and seal the doors.
The general rule is to secure doors to furniture and appliances.

5. Upholstered furniture completely wrapped in oilcloth and secured with tape.

6. When sending things and furniture by containers (sea route, railway route, etc.), there are specific features of packing and placing things.

The general principle of packaging is the same.
Features: we do not disassemble furniture (except for mirrors and glass), but on the contrary, we compact things tightly inside the furniture bodies, fill all voids to prevent vibration and ultimately the furniture falling apart). Things in the container are placed as tightly as possible, to the fullest extent. Before closing and sealing the container doors, it is advisable to fasten the crossbars and boards crosswise so that if the doors are accidentally opened (or the container is tilted), your things do not fall out, put pressure on the door, and do not provoke the opening of the doors themselves. No one will collect them; the container may simply be stolen.

It is advisable to line the inside of the container with cardboard or cover it with film, since moisture and sand can penetrate into the cracks. This is what happened to us, after our container traveled from Asia to the Urals, all the things were covered in fine yellow dust, everything had to be washed several times, knocked out, shaken out, and for a long time this sand fell from everywhere
All my preserves arrived very well in boxes in the form of well-lined jars.

7. Flowers are shipped in boxes - this is the safest way for flowers and convenient way. Flower branches in bags break and leaves become wrinkled.

8. Food from the refrigerator.
You can freeze plastic bottles of water in advance. I put the food from the freezer in a large basin or box (or left it directly in the baskets), lined the sides with frozen bottles and covered it with a thick blanket, oilcloth, and wrapped it up. Something also fit in the cooler bag.

After removing furniture from the apartment, it is also often discovered that you forgot to unscrew the curtains or remove the drapes
Keep some more garbage bags + trash bags ready (in the process of packing and taking things out, you will definitely want to throw something away).

It is advisable to schedule the move in the morning so that there is time left for arranging the essentials, unpacking the sleeping place, etc. (well, this is if you are in the same city and need to spend the night in a new apartment right away).

Here are some tips when moving for those who believe in omens, brownies... or are interested in Feng Shui.

When moving to a new (different) apartment, it is customary to let the cat in first. Moreover, the cat must be its own (domestic), and not a street or neighbor’s one.
Cat after moving to new apartment according to the sign, he will choose one of the “bad” places for himself and sit or lie there for a long time - do not put a bed there, otherwise the sleep will be disturbing and restless. It is believed that this place should be left free, because it should belong to the main “owner” of the house - the brownie.
The brownie monitors cleanliness, protects things, protects the home from fire, and helps the owners. And when moving to a new apartment, the signs recommend inviting your brownie with you and managing another home with you.
How to do it? Inform the brownie of your intention to change apartment and invite him to come with you. After that put it for him empty bag, and take it with you on the day of moving. Take a broom from your old apartment - perhaps your brownie will ride on this vehicle. Or leave an old slipper (or felt boot, boot) by the stove (fireplace, stove) with the following words: “Brownie, here’s your sleigh, come with us,” and then take this improvised transport for the brownie with you.

Before moving in, Feng Shui experts advise making repairs (the same, however, is required by a long-standing Russian tradition). If you can’t start a major overhaul right away, at least arrange general cleaning. Wipe all surfaces in the house with lightly salted water - it has magical properties and perfectly cleans the space. After moving to a new apartment, Feng Shui strongly recommends repairing all broken things: plumbing and electrical wiring, doors and floors. Once you have moved your things to new house, spend the night there. If for some reason this is not possible, leave instead the clothes you wear at night - pajamas or a nightgown.

Agree, general cleaning and plumbing repairs - this includes common sense, even for non-feng shui lovers.

Happy moving everyone!

Almost every person has experienced moving from one apartment to another at least once in their life. Many people ask questions about how to properly and effectively, and most importantly quickly, organize this event, what will not be needed in a new home, and what should definitely be taken with them? The modern market offers a large number of functional elements of furniture for the home.

For those people who are planning to move, there is a list of nine mandatory things that you need to take with you to your new apartment, as they will be needed in the first days of your stay.

It’s interesting, but our ancestors were the first to let a cat into a new apartment. But if you don’t like animals or are allergic to them, you will have to do without this funny tradition.

If you do not plan to buy or transport furniture, then, first of all, you need to purchase a mattress, since during the first days you will have to sleep on it. It is best to choose a good air mattress, because very often, the purchase of new furniture when moving is delayed, more important matters and tasks come to the fore, but a person will not be able to solve them effectively and adequately without good sleep, since sleep is very important for human body.

Don’t forget about a set of bed linen; you can stock up on two sets for a change. You can take both old things and buy new ones, if your budget allows it, this will even be a pleasant element in your new home.

In a new apartment, you will definitely need replacement shoes, especially if you are starting a renovation. Constant garbage, dust and dirt, as well as the lack of carpets, force the owner to wear slippers. To avoid looking for them after moving and running around shopping, think about this in advance.

On the day of moving, it is advisable to stock up on food, since after a tedious process no one will want to run around shopping, much less cook breakfast. Buy ready-made food from the supermarket, this is very important if you have big family and there are children who require “recharging”.

Think about a minimum set of utensils: plates, cups, spoons, forks. If you live alone, you shouldn’t carry a lot of dishes at once; it’s enough to take everything in one copy. Many people like to celebrate housewarming on the first day, then it’s worth taking care of a knife and a corkscrew, in case guests drop by with champagne.

It is very important not to forget about personal hygiene products, this Toothbrush, pasta, soap, cosmetics, shampoo and towel, as well as cleaning products that you can buy. Forgetting about this, when you go to bed, you will definitely want to take a shower, and if one of the above is not there, it can overshadow such a significant day.

And another main item when moving will be an ordinary light bulb; you should have it in reserve. This article outlines all the moving essentials you'll need right away on day one. Based on it, you will be able to remember this day, perhaps, as the best in your life. After all, buying the new apartment of your dreams should not be overshadowed by minor shortcomings and shortcomings.

They say one crossing is equal to three fires. In fact, this can only be said about an ill-organized or completely unorganized move. If you approach this matter wisely and plan everything in advance, you can not only survive the move without problems, but also enjoy it.

First of all, moving is perfect occasion sort out your things. You can mercilessly part with all sorts of rubbish, because it is not at all necessary to bring old and unnecessary things into a new apartment. Secondly, when organizing a move, you can conduct an audit of your old home, analyze what worked in the environment and what didn’t. And taking into account all the old mistakes, organize the space in the new place so that living in it is easy and comfortable.

Here are a few rules for turning the hassle of moving into a pleasant one:

1st rule of moving. Make a list

Whether you're moving from a smaller apartment to a larger one or vice versa, make a list of large items, indicating what will go in what room and where. Draw a plan of the new room with pieces of furniture placed on it. This way, you and the movers you hire will know exactly what to put where.

You also need to make a list of small items being transported, indicating their quantity.

2nd rule of moving. Prepare the packaging container

For packaging, stock up on enough boxes different sizes, prepare all the bags you have, tape, rope and thick polyethylene. Large, sturdy garbage bags can be useful for clothes and linen - they are cheap and you can pack a lot of stuff in them. The most convenient way to move is to buy 120 liter bags. You will also need markers or felt-tip pens with which you will sign the boxes. Sheets of paper with a list of contents must be taped onto the bags.

If you have fragile items, prepare more paper, newspaper or other special material for wrapping them. Alternatively, fragile items can be wrapped in clothing or linens. But in this case, everything that is there should be written on the bag in large numbers, and especially the list of fragile items should be highlighted. Otherwise, in the commotion, you may forget that fragile items are among your clothes, and as a result, you will lose your favorite souvenirs or sets.

3rd rule of moving. Start packing early

First, sell or throw away everything you don't intend to take with you. new life. Give away unwanted clothes, toys, dishes, etc., or just take everything outside. If you are going to sell something, do it in advance. Prepare a separate container (bag or box) for garbage. Write the word "garbage" on them in large letters so as not to be confused with what you will be transporting to a new place. If later, in the process of packing the necessary things, you come across unnecessary junk, you will have a place to put it.

Please note that the maximum volume of the package should be such that it is comfortable to carry, and the weight should not exceed 10 kg.

4th rule of moving. Every thing has its place

Do not put things from different closets or rooms into one bag.

Place the items you will need immediately after moving last and place them on top or in separate boxes.

Books are very heavy, so they need to be placed in small containers. Books and unbreakable items should be placed in the box all the way to the top so that it does not fall apart in the event of an impact.

Place the plates with paper or newspaper and place them on their sides - this way they are more resistant to shock. Don't forget the "Caution Glass" sign.

Long items (boards, skis, etc.) can be tied into compact bundles, tied in several places.

It is convenient to transport clothes and bedding in large bags or strong garbage bags.

Please pay attention Special attention packaging of glass and mirrors. They are usually wrapped in thick paper and covered with tape.

Cardboard boxes should be used to transport indoor flowers. When packing several plants into one box, they need to be vertically separated using partitions - pieces of cardboard. Pots with tall stemmed plants can be packed in an individual box constructed from cardboard and tape. The space inside the box (around the stem) must be filled with soft paper.

5th rule of moving. Prepare furniture for moving

Modern furniture usually has removable doors. If the doors are not removable, secure them with tape or string to prevent the cabinets from swinging open (do not use cheap tape as it may leave marks).

Keys from cabinet doors must be removed, as they may break during loading or transportation.

All shelves (especially glass ones) that are not secured inside the furniture must be removed and transported separately.

6th rule of moving. Prepare household appliances for moving

Obviously, you need to remove all food, shelves and drawers from the refrigerator, and also defrost it in advance. The refrigerator and other household appliances should be wrapped in bubble wrap and sealed with tape. For small household appliances, select boxes of suitable size, fill the space inside between the appliance and the box soft material. If you have saved original packaging from your equipment, then this will be the best container for its packaging.

Before moving, demonstrate to the representative of the company organizing the transportation that the audio and video equipment is in working order. After this, pack it in a pre-prepared container: first wrap it in bubble wrap, secure it with tape and put it in a box. If possible, it is better to transport video, audio equipment and office equipment separately in a passenger car.

7th rule of moving. Label all boxes

Repetition is the mother of learning. Therefore, it is worth mentioning once again about the obligation to sign the boxes, and clearly and understandably. You need to stick a piece of paper on each container indicating the contents. It's good if you take the time to make a list of all the things in the container. Don’t be lazy on boxes with breakable goods; draw a “glass” on them. It is advisable to mark on the box the place in the apartment where it should end up as a result of the move: “kitchen”, “bathroom”, “children’s”. This way, all things will immediately be in their place.

We moved to my mother in Orekhovo-Borisovo. And this move is temporary. More precisely, we moved for about a year, but I hope we won’t stay here for long. Maybe a couple of weeks, maybe a month. I don’t want to plan anything anymore, I planned too much and too often, and nothing came of it. Now we try to be prepared for any turn of events.

It's a reasonable question, but I can't answer it directly. Since we are prone to performing various incomprehensible actions, we distinguished ourselves here too. The main idea is to get out of your comfort zone, leave your favorite place, and, when faced with a choice, make a decision. You can call this forcing events. We have been wanting to move from our Moscow apartment to a more environmentally friendly and peaceful place for a very long time, even if only temporarily. But there are always reasons why this needs to be postponed for some time. Now there are no reasons, but there is a need to look for a place in the sun.

Of course, from the people's point of view, those who love order and life according to plan, our actions are complete stupidity. I had to think through everything, drive purposefully, and other blah blah. Does not work! Sometimes you have to do it first, and then think about doing it again. To be fair, I’ll say that Daria has nothing to do with it, it’s my idea. I can’t sit still, my soul asks for changes. Tired of waiting for things to work out. And the only thing that kept us here were the doctors and classes. But the neurologists sent us to geneticists, and the geneticists said, come back sometime later, we don’t know anything. Classes and massages can be done not only in Moscow.

In general, I can’t say where we are going next; we try not to make any guesses. So to speak, we are waiting for the right moment. Perhaps we’ll even go on a “tour” around rehabilitation centers. But now we still need to redo a bunch of paperwork here, run around the authorities, arrange things on the parent’s balcony and in the garage, sell/give/buy something.

The first stage of the move - I took my people with the most necessary junk that fit in the trunk of the car

Thoughts after the move

Regular readers know that I periodically write about and how I like minimalism. But during our move, I realized that minimalism is still like the moon. In principle, there weren’t that many things, about one gazelle, excluding the furniture, refrigerator, stove and dishes that we left in the apartment. Surely, with classic moves you get even more. But if you ask me what’s in the boxes, then God willing, I’ll list half of them, because some of them are, I don’t understand what, some small things that were previously distributed evenly throughout the home.

Some of my conclusions about what you need to do when moving and before:

  • You can get rid of 1/4 of things calmly and unnoticed. In fact, you can remove a quarter and you won’t even notice. These are some hypothetically necessary things that will come in handy someday in a bright future. A striking example- these are medications that still have a normal expiration date, but you don’t even remember the name, and most likely, if you suddenly need them, you still won’t remember and buy a new one.
  • You can get rid of another 1/4 by soberly weighing all the pros and cons, discarding what is used very, very rarely, and in fact there is no need for it (it’s difficult to admit this to yourself). Has anyone ever felt like you use something just because it’s in stock so it doesn’t sit around? The first thing that comes to mind is a pair of shoes with a narrow range of use: for a certain weather, temperature, type of outing, that is, there are a couple of such days a year, and they are covered by any more universal shoes.
  • Children's toys are truly space eaters! I thought that we had almost none, but it turned out to be two large containers and one small one. In fact, such a quantity is not needed, children quickly lose interest and grow up, once the box is full, they give it away. And don’t forget about rotation, so that not all toys are available, after playing for a week, put these ones away and take out the old ones.
  • Hiking equipment takes up space no less: 6 sleeping bags, 2 tents, 3 hiking backpacks, 5 city backpacks, 3 regular foam bags, 2 self-inflating ones. It’s time to recruit a group for a hike and rent out equipment. All things are good and necessary, but the volume can be reduced by half for sure.
  • When your life plans are vague and you don’t know where and how you will live, it’s hard to decide which things are needed and which are not. And we have something in Lately continuous fogs :)
  • During the move, you get access to all the things from all the closets, and you immediately understand that it is quite difficult to comprehend the entire volume of things in your memory, you simply won’t remember, which means you will always buy new things that duplicate existing ones. I wrote about this in the first paragraph, but it is worthy of special mention.
  • Renting a gazelle for transportation is much cheaper without a driver. The whole moving process took us more than half a day, and we didn’t worry, we did everything at our own calm pace. True, in this case you need to be able to drive such cars. A Hyundai Porter (not a gazelle) cost only 2,000 rubles per day, and 500 rubles for gasoline.
  • And finally, I came up with a convenient option for storing things so that they would be easier to find later. Very relevant for those who will keep them for some time, not just move. You can number the boxes with a marker, and then in some Excel make a list of the contents opposite each number. Unfortunately, I first got ready, and then came up with this, so my lists are written right on the boxes, which is not very convenient.

During the move, the courier brought my printed A4 photographs. It turned out quite nicely, I was planning to do it for six months, but I couldn’t get around to it, because it’s very difficult to choose from several tens of thousands. Also, to my regret, I noticed that there wasn’t much to print from such a seemingly large quantity.

Initially, I was going to hang them in frames near the elevator, but I consulted with a friend who was helping me with the move (thank you very much, Lekha!), that if possible, then I should hang it where people walk more people, so they'll head straight to the children's library.

To be continued…

Naturally, this is just the beginning of the move, so hopefully in another month I will write where we went.

P.S. Someone there told me about the Swedish wall that it is more convenient, so Early Start rules! They picked it up and transported it, no holes in the wall or installation, assembled and disassembled in 5 minutes :)

Anyone who has had to move to a new apartment at least once in their life is well aware of the feeling of “prostration” that arises when looking at numerous things in closets, nightstands and shelves. It’s not for nothing that moving is “equal to one fire” - some things are lost, some get broken and broken on the road, and some simply disappear somewhere in an unknown way. There is no need to talk about the amount of effort and nerves expended.

Here are the main secrets of a proper move!

Preparing to move – what to do first?

The most common mistake people make when moving is to pack their things in last moment. It would seem that “everything will be done in time!”, but - alas and ah - the result of the training camp last hours before the car arrives it is always equally deplorable.

Therefore, it is better to start preparing in advance.

About a month before the planned move, the most important things to do are:

    • Terminate all contracts (note - with the landlord, with companies providing cable TV, telephone, Internet services, etc.) so that in the new apartment they do not demand money from you for services that continue to be provided in the old one under existing contracts.
    • Throw away everything you don't need , and everything that could interfere with the new owners.
    • Clearly define the moving date , enter into an agreement with the appropriate moving company and inform those who will help you move to a new home.
    • Sell furniture (clothes, washing/sewing machine, other things) that you don’t want to take with you, but which still look quite decent. It’s better not to set high prices, so that later you don’t have to leave these things in the old apartment for free. It’s better to let them “fly away” at a modest price than for no one to buy them at all. And remember: if you haven’t used an item for more than six months, it means you don’t need it—feel free to get rid of it in any convenient way.

    One week before moving:

    1. We pack all the things that you will not need in the near future.
    2. Throw away the excess.
    3. We begin to sort out things, food and furniture in the kitchen.
    4. We buy disposable plates/forks to easily remove all dishes from the kitchen.
    5. We connect the Internet to the new apartment so that on the day of the move we don’t frantically call companies for this purpose, running between boxes with a useless router.
    6. We clean carpets and wash curtains (save yourself the effort in a new place), and also rewash items that require it.
    7. We do general cleaning in the new apartment so as not to waste time on it after moving.

    The day before the move:

    • We send the children to grandma (friends).
    • Defrosting the refrigerator.
    • We deal with the keys to old and new housing ( mailboxes, garages, gates, etc.).
    • We take meter readings (note – we take photographs).
    • We collect the remaining things.

7 secrets of preparing for a move that will make your life and the preparations easier

    • Revision. Moving is a great way to get rid of excess clutter. When you start sorting things to pack them for moving, immediately put a large box “to throw away” or “to give to neighbors.” Surely, you have things (clothes, tiles, lamps, toys, etc.) that you do not need in your new apartment. Give them to those in need and don’t carry extra junk into your new apartment. Toys can be given to Orphanage, sell decent items on the appropriate websites, and take old blankets/rugs to a dog shelter.
    • Box with documents. We collect it especially carefully so that we can take it with us in the car on moving day. Place all the documents you have in folders, label them and put them in one box. Naturally, this should not be done the day before the move.
    • Box “1st necessity”. That's how we label it. In this necessary box, when you move, you can easily find a first aid kit, toothbrushes and toilet paper, a set of spare clothes for each family member, the most necessary products(sugar, salt, coffee/tea), towels, pet food and other important things.
    • Box with valuables. Here we put all our gold with diamonds, if any, and other valuable items that are expensive or have other value for you personally. You should also take this box with you (we don’t shove it into the general “pile” in the truck, but take it with us into the cabin).
    • Disassemble the furniture. Don’t rely on chance and don’t be too lazy to take it apart, so as not to cry over a torn sofa, a broken table and chips on a rare chest of drawers. There is no point in disassembling old chipboard furniture and dragging it with you - just give it to your neighbors or leave it near the trash heap (whoever needs it will take it himself).
    • Don't make any major purchases in the week before moving. Don't stock up on groceries either - it's excess weight and space in the truck. It is better to replenish the bins in a new place.
    • Prepare food the day before moving day (you won’t have time to cook!) and pack it in a cooler bag. Nothing inspires you in a new place after moving like a delicious dinner.

Collecting and packing things for moving - boxes, bags, tape

It is almost impossible to collect the things that you have accumulated in your old apartment even in 1 year in 1 day.

Therefore, the ideal time to “start” is a week before the move. The most important thing when packing is packaging.

Therefore, we start with boxes and other items for a comfortable move:

    1. Looking or buying carton boxes (preferably durable and with holes for easy carrying). Most often, boxes are given away for free in hypermarkets or local stores(Ask store administrators). Assess the volume of your things and take boxes according to this volume. On average, it takes about 20-30 large boxes to pack items from a 2-room apartment in which a large family with pets lives. It is not recommended to take giant boxes - they are inconvenient to carry and difficult to lift, in addition, they often break under the weight of things.
    2. Don't spare money on wide, high-quality tape! You will need it in large quantities, and not just to seal boxes. And preferably with a dispenser, then the work will go much faster.
    3. Also, you can’t do without cardboard “spacers” (newspaper, wrapping paper), twine, regular stretch film and a pack of clear bags.
    4. Special film with “pimples” , which everyone loves to click, we buy in large quantities.
    5. Multi-colored markers and stickers will also help.
    6. To pack furniture you will need thick fabric (old sheets, curtains, for example), as well as thick film (like for greenhouses).
    7. For heavy items we select bags and suitcases (the boxes may not be able to support them), or we put the weights in small and strong boxes, and then carefully secure them with tape and twine.

    General work plan:

    • We reinforce all boxes with good tape, paying special attention to the bottom of the container. You can also make handles from it if there are no holes on the boxes themselves (or you can make these holes yourself with a stationery knife).
    • We allocate a separate room (or part of it) for packed items.
    • We buy a notebook for notes, where there will be all the information on accounts, movers, counters and the things themselves.

    On a note:

If you wear suits, you'll be glad to know that there are cardboard "closets" for safely transporting expensive items directly on hangers.

How to move and not forget anything - lists of things, labeling boxes and much more

In order not to spend a painfully long time looking for clothespins or tights in all the boxes in a new apartment, which no one ever sorts right away (usually this takes from a week to a month, and for those who are especially lucky, up to a year), Use the rules of proper packing:

    • We mark the boxes with stickers and markers. For example, red for the kitchen, green for the bathroom, etc. Don't forget to duplicate each box in a notepad.
    • Be sure to put a number on the box (on each side of the box, so that later you don’t have to turn it around looking for the number!) and duplicate it in a notebook along with a list of things. If you are not shy about movers and are not afraid that “things will be stolen,” then the list of things can be glued to the box. In your notebook you should have all the boxes with all the lists of things. Numbering the boxes is also useful because in a new place it will be easier for you to check whether all things have been brought into the apartment.
    • Lifehack: so as not to look for clothespins and washing powder, pack them straight into the drum washing machine. Tea and sugar can be placed in a teapot, and a pack of coffee can be placed in a box with a Turkish coffee grinder. You can put bedding, bowls and pet food in a cat carrier. And so on, with other things.
    • When storing wires from equipment and gadgets, try not to confuse them. In a separate box - a scanner with wires, in another - a computer with its own wires, in separate packages there are phones and other gadgets - each with its own charger. If you are afraid of getting confused, immediately take a photo of the area where the wires connect to the equipment. This cheat sheet can make your life easier after moving.
    • Ship bed linen separately with towels and blankets and pillows.
    • Don't forget to have a separate box for tools. and small things necessary for repairs, you will need it almost immediately after moving.

Apartment moving – preparing furniture for transportation

Don’t rely on “strong” furniture and “caring” movers.

If your furniture is dear to you, then take care of its safety before moving.

    • Everything that comes apart is disassembled, packaged and labeled. For example, we disassemble a table into parts, pack each one in special thick paper or cardboard (bubble wrap is ideal), and mark each part with the letter “C” (table). We put the accessories from the table into a separate bag, twist it and secure it to one of the parts. It’s ideal if you can secure all the parts together or put them in narrow boxes. Don't forget the instructions! If they are still there, put them in a bag with accessories to make it easier to assemble the furniture later. Place keys for furniture and other tools for quick assembly in the “1st necessity” box (described above).
    • We wrap sofas and armchairs thick fabric , cover with thick film on top and wrap with tape. We do the same with mattresses.
    • We wrap all handles on doors and drawers cling film or foam rubber so as not to scratch other things.
    • If you don’t take out the drawers from the chest of drawers (desk) , then be sure to secure them so that they do not fall out when carrying. Also fix all the doors on the furniture - on the kitchen, etc.
    • All glass and mirrors must be removed from the furniture and packaged separately. . They are usually the first to break if owners leave them in closets.

If you are sending things to another city by container, then pay special attention to packing furniture and boxes!

Moving to a new apartment and pets – what do you need to remember?

Of course, the ideal option is to send pets and children to relatives during the move. First of all, it will be so easier for parents, secondly, this will protect children and young animals from accidental injuries.

But if this is not possible, then use the “memo” on moving with pets:

    1. Don't swear at your pets. For them, moving in itself is stressful. Their attention to things and boxes is quite natural. Don't swear or shout. Don't forget that they won't feed themselves.
    2. While collecting and running around with boxes, give the little animals something that can distract them – a separate box for cats (they love them), toys, bones for dogs.
    3. In advance (a couple of weeks), resolve all issues with the veterinarian, if any. Update the information on the chip (approx. phone number, address).
    4. To transport fish: pour the water from the aquarium into a bucket with a ventilated lid (transplant the fish there too), and transfer the vegetation from it to another container, adding the same water. Place the soil in bags. The aquarium itself - rinse, dry, wrap in bubble wrap.
    5. For transporting birds: We wrap the cage with cardboard, and on top with warm and dense material (birds are afraid of drafts).
    6. Rodents can be transported in their own cages , but it is recommended to insulate them if it is too cold outside. In hot weather, on the contrary, choose a place for transportation that will not be too hot and stuffy (so that the animals do not suffocate).
    7. Don't feed dogs and cats right in front of the road , be sure to walk the dogs, and remove the drinking bowls during transportation - or, if it’s hot, replace them with wet sponges.
    8. For cats and small dogs It is better to use hard carriers. Naturally, it is not recommended to transport them to a new home in the cargo compartment of a car. The best option is to transport pets on your lap.

And don’t forget to take a couple of days off to move and unload your things in the new place. Moving after work is an ordeal.
