Even a certain style appeared - rockabilly (around 1954-56 - a surge in the popularity of Elvis Presley), pop culture lost its innocence: teenage girls had already learned to run away from home at night, dance rock and roll and boogie-woogie, kiss under the moon and shed tears on Elvis Presley posters. This time was naive and touching: there were still 15 years left before the famous “summer of love”, the emergence of psychedelic drugs and psychedelic rock. The 20th century is a difficult period for the whole world, and the States, including, after World War II people were tired, they wanted peace and tranquility, without shocks. All this was reflected in the music of those years - calm and sentimental, with sweet vocals. This, one might say, was “official” music.
But next to this “official” music there was another one - loud and full of life rhythm and blues. Initially, rhythm and blues was synonymous with black music, and, naturally, was more popular in certain circles than anywhere else. But this could not go on forever; such music could no longer be “hidden.”
One evening, Cleveland radio disc jockey Alan Freed took it upon himself to play rhythm and blues records on the air. And in order not to shock the “white” public, he came up with another name for it - “rock and roll”.
The trick was a success, the idea worked one hundred percent! Disguised rhythm and blues sounded in full force and penetrated the hearts of a huge number of people, regardless of skin color.
Russian rock
In the USSR they didn’t like rock and roll, and why should they like it?! This is a “corrupting youth” phenomenon! These are corrupting bourgeois motives! But this attitude of the “right” people only added fuel to the fire. Everyone knows that the forbidden fruit is sweet, so, fortunately, they could not stop the spread of rock and roll in the Soviets. But they didn’t give free rein either.
Because of " iron curtain", separating the Union from the rest music world(and not only) rock in our country had to cook in its own cauldron, with its own seasonings. That's why he turned out so... different. Original, if you want. In our song lyrics there is a certain philosophical meaning and social coloring came to the fore foreground, only then went musical technology. Western rock and roll followed a different path.
