Buy a pattern Instructions for printing patterns and sewing

Good day, dear readers! Today we invite you to sew feminine dress from fabric into a cage. We will take a short excursion into the history of tartan, and also talk about the features of cutting products from this fabric. You will also have the opportunity to try several of our online basic pattern generators . Welcome to our next modeling lesson!

Over the past two years, designers have been exploiting the checkered pattern with all their might! Moreover, a wide variety of its variants are used: not only varieties of tartans, but also, for example, the “Vichy” check (small blue-white or red-white check), or the “ goose foot" We offer you a selection of models for the autumn-winter season 2014-2015:

(photo from the sites https://wardrobelooks.com/, https://www.fashionbashon.com/, https://www.vogue.it/)

To what extent to use the checkered motif is up to you! This could be a “checkered total look”, or touches in detail. I hope these inspire you vivid examples street fashion:

(photo from the site https://secondstreet.ru/)

Well, now it’s time to start the “practical” part of our lesson! Let's take a closer look at our dress from 9A Concept– features, details, options...

A technical drawing of the model is presented below. The dress is cut at the waist with a circle skirt, the waist is emphasized with an additional belt. Regular subscribers to our site can already recognize the familiar styling techniques used in this dress: bishop sleeve, as in our recent tutorial - only shortened to the elbow in in this case, or tucks at the neck - like .

So, to model this wonderful dress we will need:

  • A basic dress pattern with a semi-fitted silhouette, which you can generate according to your own measurements
  • Sleeve pattern, which you can get completely free from this link
  • Pattern for a circle skirt, which you can also get using our online generator (Don’t rush to fill out the measurements on this page just yet! Instead of half waist circumference, we will need to enter the measurement from the dress drawing into the generator)

MODELING THE DRESS BODY

Step 1 . To begin, immediately “get rid” of the bottom part of the pattern. In this case, you can lengthen the bodice by 3-4 centimeters - this is necessary so that the bodice, draped in small pleats at the waist near the belt, does not sit “tight”, but with a slight slouch.

Step 2 . Expand the neck of the shelf by approximately 4 cm. Now, before we have time to “shred” our new line neck shown in the drawing below green, you can draw the contours of the facing of the neck of the shelf with a width of 3-4 cm. The facing is shown in pink in the drawing.

Step 3 . On the new neck line, mark the position of the future pintucks - the first one is about 2 cm from the line of the middle of the front, the second is three centimeters from the first.

Step 4 . From the marked points, construct perpendiculars 6 cm long. Connect the ends of these perpendiculars to the top of the chest dart. Along these lines, shown in the figure with a green dotted line, you need to cut the pattern.

Step 5 . The pintucks of our dress on the neckline are not deep - it is enough to move the parts of the pattern at the place of each cut by 3 cm. Draw a new neckline.

Step 6 . Depending on the size of the bust dart of your custom base pattern, after spreading the pattern at the pintucks, you may be left with a small portion of the bust dart. It will need to be closed by transferring its solution to the dart along the waist.

Well, in general, it doesn’t matter what size of the remainder you transfer to the waist - because waist darts won’t be useful to us anyway! Instead, we will have a gather at the waistline.

Step 7 . To find out how much we need to lengthen the waistline in order to make a gather along it, measure what length along the waistline was on the base pattern (the sum of the sections a And b in the picture) and enlarge it least 1.5 times (or better yet, even more).

Now the bodice front pattern is ready - it is shown in pink (the parts of the “old” pattern shown in green fall into its outline).

The pintucks are laid as follows: the corresponding points are aligned so that the “excess” of the fabric is laid towards the wrong side, and slightly ironed away from the center of the front.

Now let's work on the back!

Step 8 . Let's expand the neck of the back in the same way as on the shelf.

Step 9 . Cut the pattern as shown in the picture below and close the shoulder dart.

Step 10 . After the previous step, our pattern has expanded significantly in the waist area (we, of course, will not take into account the increased dart at the waist - it will turn into gathering). Let's check whether this magnification is sufficient to form an assembly of the required “density”. Measure the distance around your waist and, if necessary, increase it to the desired size. Just like on the shelf, it should be at least 1.5 times Furthermore, which was on the basic pattern.

The back pattern is also ready and shown below in green! Pink color against its background the facing of the back neckline is shown (it should be the same width as the facing for the front).

SLEEVE MODELING

Modeling the sleeve is carried out by analogy with the bishop sleeve for the blouse from this lesson. The principle is the same: cut the vukav pattern and spread it to the desired size at the bottom. The only difference is the sleeve length.

Step 11 . Shorten the sleeve pattern to the elbow line. Also cut out a strip about 4 cm wide from the sleeve pattern below the elbow level - this will be a blank for the cuff.

Step 12 . Divide the sleeve widthwise into 6 equal parts and cut along the marked lines (markings shown in the picture on the left with dotted vertical lines).

Step 13 . Extend the cut sleeve blank as shown in the picture on the right. If necessary, smooth out the contours of the rim in places where kinks in the line have formed.

Step 14 . Model the bottom line of the sleeve. In order for the sleeve to have a beautiful “pomp” at the bottom, it is necessary to add an allowance for the overlap, and on the back side this allowance should be twice as large as on the front side.

Step 15 . Model the cuff. To do this, cut the cuff blank and spread it slightly at the top (to which the lower gathered section of the sleeve will be sewn). The cuff is made double, so for one sleeve we will need two cuff parts.

SKIRT MODELING

Well, this is the easiest part of our modeling! And all thanks to the fact that a circle skirt pattern generator has recently appeared on our website.

Let us recall that the circle skirt consists of two connected semicircular panels (more rarely - one whole round panel) with a notch for the waist with a radius R. Most often the radius of the recess R determined by the semi-circumference of the waist ( equal to the value this measure divided by 3.14). This is the case if the skirt “sits” at the waist. But our skirt has a gather at the waist and is sewn to the bodice.

We can see from the photo that the gather on the skirt in this dress is thicker than the gather at the waist on the bodice. If we designed the gathering on the bodice to be 1.5-1.8 times larger than the half-waist circumference (with an increase), then on the skirt we can make it 1.8-2 times larger than the half-waist circumference. It would not be a mistake to make the waist sections of the skirt and bodice equal. At the point where they connect, an elastic band is placed, which evenly tightens the gathers on the bodice and skirt at the same time.

So, we will need to fill in the following measurements on the circle skirt pattern generator page:

  • Instead of “half waist circumference”, enter the value ( a +b )*4 (double waistline length basic pattern). Or measure the sum of the lengths of the waist sections of the front and back and enter this value in the “half waist circumference” field (in this case, the density of the waistline in the upper and lower parts of the dress will be the same).
  • The length of the skirt is about 58 cm, or to the knee. Measure yourself to the exact length you want, and don’t forget to involve an assistant in this process!

Let us remind you that the share line is directed along the side cut of the circle skirt.

Since the dress has a fastener in the middle seam of the back, the skirt will consist of three parts - a front panel (semicircular) and two halves of a back panel (two “quarters” of a circle).

Don't forget to mark the entrance to the inner pocket located in the seam on the side seam of the skirt. Draw a free-form burlap detail for the pocket.

All details of the dress are ready. Additionally, cut out a belt for the dress - a rectangle 4 cm wide (plus seam allowances) and a length equal to the half-circumference of the waist + an increase for the fastener (buttons or snaps).

LAYOUT OF PARTS ON THE FABRIC AND CUTTING OUT OF A DRESS FROM CHECKED FABRIC

An example of the layout of the details of a size 46 dress on regular fabric (without a pattern) is shown below. With a width of 160 cm, you will need 1 meter 75 cm of fabric for the skirt and 95 cm of fabric for the rest of the cut.

ATTENTION! This layout does not include a checkered pattern!

When cutting a gingham dress, more fabric is always required. On the Internet you can often find advice taken from the Soviet magazines “Rabotnitsa”: “For a small cage, buy 20 cm more fabric than usual, for a large one – 40-60 cm.” You can follow this advice, but if the cell is still large enough, you can specify an additional amount of tissue based on its size.

For example, we have a checkered fabric with a pattern that repeats every 10 cm (the repeating pattern is called rapport). Then we need to add 1 repeat to the skirt (in our example 10 cm) - one to adjust the front panel so that the middle of the pattern passes through its middle. On the bodice of the dress with such a layout as in our example, when the front and back parts are laid side by side along the width of the fabric, you need to add 2 repeats (20 cm in our example) - 1 for adjusting the pattern on the front and back halves, the second for adjusting the pattern on the sleeves. If the back parts and the shelf do not fit in one row in width, you need to add one more repeat - a total of three repeats of 10 cm each = 30 additional centimeters of fabric.

We list the details of the cut of the dress in which it is necessary to adjust the pattern:

  • On front panel skirts the middle of the pattern should coincide with the middle line of the skirt.
  • Halves of the back panel of the skirt are cut out in such a way as to match the pattern on the side seams with the pattern on the side seams of the front panel. The pattern in the middle seam of the back panel of the skirt should also match. The pattern on both halves of the back panel should be completely symmetrical.
  • On internal burlap pockets stitched with the back panels, the pattern should match the pattern at the seam on the back panel. Is not required condition, but you can do it if you want inner part The pocket, which will be visible when folded back, looked aesthetically pleasing (although in most cases it is not noticeable at all).
  • On shelf the middle of the pattern should also coincide with the line of the middle of the shelf.
  • Back details are adjusted so as to ensure that the pattern at the side seams matches the pattern at the side seams on the shelf. Matching is also controlled horizontal lines pattern in the middle back seam. The back pieces must be positioned so that the middle back seam coincides with the middle line of the cage pattern. The pattern on both halves of the back should be completely symmetrical.
  • On both sleeves the pattern should also be completely symmetrical. The vertical line passing through the top of the sleeve rim (coinciding with the lobar) should coincide with the middle of the cell pattern.
  • It is also necessary to check the symmetry of the pattern on all paired parts, such as cuffs.

We wish you good luck and creative success!

Check is a very common print that regularly appears in seasonal collections. No wonder: it can be stylish, fashionable, classic or glamorous at the same time. It is for this ability that designers value this seemingly simple drawing. Today we will talk about such a thing as checkered dresses of 2017 and present for you the current photo news.

Current models of checkered dresses in 2017

The styles this season will be able to please any fashionista: original, beautiful, they look really good. The most popular lengths vary; dress silhouettes can be straight, fitted, tapered at the bottom, if we're talking about about business or weekend models, shirt dresses, “cocoons” and “tulips” are very popular.

A summer dress can be either loose, made of light fabrics, or tight-fitting, if it is made of stretchy materials. The sleeves are short, many dresses have straps, but there are options up to the elbow, although this is the maximum. The shape of the neck is different: “boat”, v-shaped, “swing”, oval, rectangular or even square.

For warm dresses characterized by voluminous collars, although not always, and long sleeves or a three-quarter version. Often there are dresses with a “neck”, a collar, a shirt collar is inherent in all seasons and depends only. There are many silhouettes for the autumn wardrobe, tapered at the bottom or with a trapezoidal cut.

Current models for going out are, most often, glamorous chic dresses, where the cage is a classic attribute that makes the dress wearable on different occasions. Among them there are many bandage models and the like.

If we talk about models for a business wardrobe, we often find sheath dresses, as well as regular dresses without trim, straight or fitted styles. The most important thing is that it looks strict; this is achieved due to the lack of decor and structural diversity.

Short or long plaid dress?

A short dress always looks fresh, summery and makes you look more youthful. But at the same time, the length places special demands on the figure - it should be good, otherwise choose midi and maxi options.

What short models will be in fashion this time? First of all, these are various glamorous dresses of tight fit. All of them necessarily have a fitted style and look really seductive. The print gives them an extra twist.

Second option: a romantic fitted dress with a bell skirt. The sleeves often have an unusual style: a lantern, and sometimes just down to the elbow. Dresses with straps are in demand in the summer wardrobe.

Another very unusual model a short checkered dress is a business outfit for a young woman. The length does not spoil it at all and does not make it frivolous due to the style itself. It is A-shaped, less often straight and almost does not emphasize the figure, the checkered coloring necessarily belongs to the basic palette, and the sleeves and neck are decorated with a collar and cuffs, often white.

Such a neat outfit looks its best and at the same time it is not at all provocative. A smart choice will help you choose a short dress for every day, for going out, and for working in the office.

Special trend of the season - long dress. Most often these are options for autumn and winter; they are made of thick fabrics and are very warm, but there are also many summer options. In the first case, the color of the print can be attributed to the classic range, in the second – to bright and saturated.

A floor-length checkered dress looks simply chic. A summer option that doesn’t look casual, you can even wear it to a celebration. Why not, if it is, for example, a floor-length dress in a checkered pattern and white flowers, with an open back and a beautiful neckline? It's elegant and unusual.

This is also very good for an everyday wardrobe. a good choice. Firstly, it is warm if it is made, for example, from wool, and secondly, it fits perfectly into autumn wardrobe. For summer, you can buy a chiffon or silk long dress in black and white or pastel checkered patterns.

Fashionable palette

From year to year, fashion changes even to the classics. No matter how widespread this print may be, in any case, each season presents its own “fashion surprises.” What awaits us this time?

The color palette itself is very diverse! The main place, of course, is occupied by a dress made of plaid - traditionally it is used for the autumn-winter season, and in the summer they use visually “lighter” varieties of plaid.

Also, many are interested in which option to choose: small or large check? The season print can be any size. The classic medium cell is most common, but large or small ones are not excluded at all! Among the small variations, such types of cells as “gingham” and “pepita” are suitable. Various oblique checks have returned to fashion, as well as the popular “crow’s foot”.

Of the color combinations, the two most popular options are black and white and red and black. They can be called classic. The first option is more suitable for summer, the second for autumn. Of course, this is not a strict condition, but only a recommendation.

If you are looking for something both stylish and formal that you could wear to work, then pay attention to the variations of gray check. A red and white checkered pattern would be very good for summer.

If you love more rare variants, then this season there will be a lot of blue-white and green-white checks, which look wonderful in a summer wardrobe. For winter, choose the same options, only with black instead of white.

You may also be interested in such print offers, where there is purple, burgundy, yellow, brown and beige, blue, turquoise, light green colors and many others. For creative people, we can recommend bright, colorful designs.

Decor and finishing

The methods of decorating a dress depend entirely on its purpose, as well as the season of the year. Which is not surprising: it would be strange if summer and autumn models were decorated the same way. So, what is a fashionable finish?

Spring Summer. This season is designed to emphasize the lightness of the outfit, to give a feeling of freshness and coolness, so necessary on a hot day. Designers actively use light translucent and shiny “cold” fabrics, like silk and satin, and chiffon. Dresses are decorated with frills and flounces, tucks, drapery, or fabric perforations.

Autumn winter. The decoration of dresses is associated with warmth and comfort, which is so lacking in the cold. Woolen short fringe, large decorative buttons, cowl collars and high stands are in use. Fleecy fabrics are used for decoration: velvet and everything that looks like it.

In general, it cannot be said that the dresses are overly decorated, not at all. Enough in progress simple models, elegant and strict. The whole beauty of these dresses is in the print; it is the main decoration.

Among the types of finishing common to all types of dresses, we can mention belts, beautiful collars, including white ones, and patch pockets.

What to wear with a checkered dress in 2017?

Everyday looks love this simple but effective print. Whatever the style of the dress, with the help of a pattern it will always turn into chic outfit, capable of highlighting your figure and your taste.

A lot depends on the style you prefer, as well as your lifestyle. We will choose one outfit for the office, and another for a social occasion.

Business style. Only calm cage colors are suitable here, preferably muted tones. Black-and-red and black-and-white prints, dark green or dark blue checks, as well as its gray variations will look good. Choose a straight or fitted style, but always without decorations.

Neither a long nor a short dress will work. Optimal choice– knee-length model, slightly higher or lower. It will look trendy and stylish, and you won’t break the dress code.

What to combine it with? With beautiful but discreet shoes. Be sure to select genuine leather and low heels. Depending on the season, wear boots, shoes, ankle boots, sandals, all options should be without trim, and the color should be combined with the palette of the dress.

For a light top, you can choose a light lace or thin cotton jacket with short sleeve for the summer, in the fall, wear waist-length cardigans and jackets. Sleeveless jumpers look great, knitted vests. Also pay attention to the overall palette of the ensemble: the colors should complement each other.

Glamorous style. Even though this doesn't mean you can't wear a gingham dress in a glamorous style. It's all about the style, the character of the cell. One thing must meet his requirements. For example, it could be a tight-fitting dress made of stretch material. It is better to choose a short length, but medium is not excluded.

Narrow sundresses with straps, bandage dresses, short models with drapery or an open back - any glamorous decoration or design feature - will look great. Of the colors, two-color simple combinations will be especially relevant, such as black and white, beige and white, and so on. Brighter variants of the cage are not excluded.
