Important components of the boho style are wide and multi-layered or pseudo-layered skirts. Let's sew boho skirt with our own hands together - and maybe we will become at least a little weaker, more tender, like a woman, and the men next to us will want to become our knights-protectors...

So, we will need:

  • textile,
  • ruler, tailor's yardstick, scissors;
  • soap or chalk, tailor's pins;
  • sewing machine;
  • basic knowledge of mathematics;
  • a little patience and a lot of desire...

In addition, you will need to take only two measurements - OT (waist circumference). Measure your waist circumference with a tailor's meter, without tightening it too much. The second measurement is DI (product length). Ask someone to help you, to be more precise: measure the desired length of the future product from the waist line to the bottom of the product.

DIY boho skirt - how to sew:

A little about the choice of fabric... A feature of bohemian chic is that the wardrobe consists of natural fabrics. Let's not deviate from tradition - we use suiting fabrics containing wool, linen or denim. With a width of 1.4 m we will need about 2 m of fabric.

Before starting sewing, iron the fabric thoroughly with an iron using steam. We use natural fabric, which means it is very susceptible to shrinkage after washing. Some natural fabrics can “sit down” by as much as 10%. To avoid such unpleasant surprises, we will decant the fabric before sewing. In addition, we will remove any unevenness that formed while the fabric was folded.

Let's start cutting. We will cut directly on the fabric - no drawings, recesses, patterns - a few rectangles, and the skirt is ready. Fold the fabric in half widthwise.

We pin along the length of the edge with tailor's pins - this way the fabric will not move, which means it will be more comfortable to cut and cut.

I will talk about cutting using the example of the measurements of a skirt that I sewed - it will be more clear. We cut the base of the skirt - set aside 2/3 of the DI measurements from the edge, plus 5 cm for the drawstring, plus 1-2 cm for the seams. (CI = 76 cm, 76:3 = 25 cm X 2 = 50 cm + 5 cm + 2 cm = 57 cm)

Let’s remember the tailor’s saying: “We measured 7 times...” - we count it again, measure it, cut it off.

We take out the pins, cut off the hem strip - no matter how well the skirt is sewn, if the hem strip peeks out from the seam, the item instantly turns from a designer item into a market item, made underground...

In order not to waste time on basting, we pin both edges of the base together with tailor's pins, departing 1 cm from the edge. We direct the pins not along the edge, but across it - this way you can stitch directly along the pins without fear of the machine needle breaking - it will simply slide off from the pin if it hits it.

We lay a seam along the edge of the base, not forgetting to secure the seam at the ends with a reverse stitch or by threading the threads to one side and tying them. The maximum seam pitch is 4 mm, thread No. 40 to match the fabric.

Don't forget to take out the tailor's pins.

Iron the seam until it fits well.

We process the seam using an overlocker or a zigzag seam - seam height 5 mm, length 1 mm.

Let's start cutting out the top ruffle. We divide the remaining 1/3 of the length of the skirt into two parts, differing in width by 3-5 cm. In my case, this is the width of the upper ruffle 15 cm + 2 cm for seams = 17 cm. We draw two segments, the total length of which is 2, 8 m.

Let's cut it off. Cut off the edge strip.

We sew them together in a circle, securing the seams at the ends. We process the seams using an overlocker or a zigzag seam.

Along the length of the ruffle, along one of the edges at a distance of 0.5-0.7 cm from it, we lay a seam - the step length is 5 mm. We do NOT secure the seam.

Now we take the end of one of the threads and tighten it - the fabric on the thread begins to gather.

You need to pull the fabric exactly twice so that the length of the ruffle is 1.4 m. We do this operation very carefully so as not to tear the threads.

We pin the ruffle using tailor's pins to the base of the skirt in a circle.

We direct the pins across the future seam.

We lay the seam at a distance of 0.7-1 cm from the edge.

We process the seam using an overlocker or a zigzag seam.

We turn the edge of the seam between the base and the ruffle towards the seam, and lay a seam on top.

It remains to sew the third part of the skirt - a ruffle 13 cm wide (13 cm + 1 cm for the seam + 1 cm for the hem). When stitched, the ruffle should be 5.2 m long – i.e. we will need three pieces with a fabric width of 1.4 m.

We cut off the segments and repeat the operations prescribed under photos 13-21.

The assembled ruffle should be 2.8 m.

We process the bottom of the skirt and the waist line using an overlocker or a zigzag seam - the seam height is 5 mm, the step length is 1 mm.

Now we bend the bottom by 1 cm and lay a seam at a distance of 0.7-0.8 cm from the fold. If you're worried about hemming your skirt unevenly, press the fold using a steam iron and then sew.

We form a drawstring along the waist line by folding 2.5 cm of fabric and stitching at a distance of 0.5 cm from the folded edge.

All that remains is to cut and sew on the diagonal ruffle. To do this, measure a piece of fabric 1.4 m long and 20 cm wide.

We cut off the part, cut off the edge strip.

We process all sides of the cut using an overlocker.

We bend the edges on all sides by 0.5-0.7 cm, and lay a seam on top. A little advice- if you don’t have an overlocker, I recommend skipping the operation described under photo 29, and folding the edges not once, but twice - this way the ruffle will look more aesthetically pleasing.

From one of the edges along the length we set aside 4 cm and draw a line.

Along the drawn line we lay a seam with a maximum step length. Mine is 4 mm.

Using a ruler and chalk (soap) we mark the location of the diagonal ruffle.

We measure the planned length of the ruffle.

Pull the ruffle to a length equal to the line where the ruffle is located on the skirt. We secure the threads with a knot.

We apply the ruffle and secure it with pins, directing them along the tightened thread.

We sew a seam over the tightened thread.

We take out the pins.

The skirt is almost ready - all that remains is to put on the elastic.

Using a pin, thread an elastic band 2-2.5 cm wide into the drawstring.

All that remains is to iron our hand-sewn boho skirt - and you can try it on!

If you've become a fan of bohemian chic, it requires impeccable taste - ill-thought-out details can turn an outfit into a crazy cacaphony of color and clothing.

A boho skirt looks great with a loose top - tunics, blouses and shirts of a semi-fitted silhouette. It is not necessary to tuck such things into a skirt - the top of the outfit can be left floating or tied with a wide belt or cord. Wear low-top shoes – ballet flats, “Cossacks”, in winter – ugg boots, high heel or a hairpin are inappropriate here.

Add layers to your look with petticoats, vests, scarves and shawls that show a few centimeters. Accessories include beads and necklaces in ethnic style...
