This was fueled by growing domestic political pressure from a cross-party group of US legislators (led by “progressive” Bernie Sanders and “libertarian” Mike Lee), who, after months of efforts, this week managed to force the Senate to vote on a bill that would ban US participation in the operation in Yemen. Over the course of a week, they tried to distance themselves from the company, condemning its methods of work.

Here, questions may arise about the degree of influence of the British firm on decision-making in the Trump camp (representatives of Cambridge Analytica stated that it was key, which, however, can be written off as bragging), as well as about the fairness of payment for its services (if the real payment was below market value, the difference will be considered a “donation” to the candidate).
So far, no formal charges have been brought against Cambridge Analytica, which did not prevent this company from occupying a place in the narrative American media the place of “Russian hackers” as the main enemy of democracy around the world. However, by the end of the week this defect had been corrected and suggestions arose that it was Cambridge Analytica that was the link between Moscow and Trump.
