The Mayan civilization was one of the greatest pre-Columbian civilizations. Its scale extended to the entire northern region of Central America, including the territories of modern states - Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Mexico and the southwestern outskirts of Honduras.

Most Mayan city-states reached the peak of their urbanism and large-scale construction during the Classic period from 250 to 900 AD. The most notable monuments of this period are the ancient temples that were built in almost every big city. For reasons still unknown, most Mayan centers fell into disrepair over the next few centuries. And by the time the conquistadors arrived, the Mayan civilization was already in deep decline.

There are several versions of the possible cause of the death of civilization, including soil depletion, loss of water sources and erosion, earthquakes, diseases, as well as probable military invasions of other highly developed cultures. Some Mayan cities of the highest historical and cultural value are included in. Of particular tourist interest today is ancient architecture, stone sculptures, bas-reliefs and stylized religious paintings on the walls of houses. As well as preserved massive palaces, ancient temples and pyramids.

We have already told you about the impressive ones, today you can get acquainted with the most interesting ancient cities of the Mayan civilization.

The ruins of Tikal are located on the territory of the same name national park. And this is perhaps one of the largest archaeological sites Mayan civilization in Central America. It was this place that became the inspiration and was later reflected in Mel Gibson’s film “Apocalypse.” Trip to Tikal financially enough expensive pleasure, compared to other directions to the ruins of the Mayan civilization. But the surviving pyramids, stone royal palaces, the paintings and frescoes are worth seeing. In 1979, Tikal National Park was declared a World Heritage UNESCO. By the way, be on the lookout, there are predatory jaguars in the dense forests surrounding the park.

The large pre-Columbian city of Chichen Itza is located in the Mexican state of Yucatan. This large ruined city appears to have been one of the Tollans - a place of worship for the mythological deity Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent). This is evidenced by images found at the ballpark. Chichen Itza is known for its wide variety of architectural styles. This city was attractive to residents because there were two deep cenotes that provided the population with water all year round. One of these natural wells is the Sacred Cenote, a place of sacrifice and pilgrimage of the ancient Mayans. Chichen Itza is very popular among tourists, with more than 1.2 million people visiting each year.

This Mayan city flourished in southern Mexico in the 7th century BC. After the fall, the city was swallowed up by the jungle for a long time before being rediscovered and transformed into famous place archaeological excavations. Palenque is located on the Usumacinta River, 130 km south of Ciudad del Carmen. It is much smaller than Tikal, but can boast of its architecture, preserved sculptures and bas-reliefs of the ancient Mayans. Numerous hieroglyphic inscriptions on the monuments allowed experts to reconstruct most history of Palenque. These same experts and archaeologists claim that in currently Only 10% of the territory of the ancient city has been excavated and studied. The rest is nearby, but hidden underground, in the dense jungle.

The ancient ruins of the city of Calakmul are hidden in the jungles of the Mexican state of Campeche. This is one of the largest Mayan cities. More than 6,500 buildings were discovered on an area of about 20 square kilometers. The largest pyramids reach a height of 50 meters and a base width of 140 meters. The classical period saw the dawn of Calakmul. At this time he was in a fierce rivalry with Tikal, this confrontation can be compared to clarifying the political ambitions of the two superpowers. Called the Snake Kingdom, Calakmul spread its active influence over a radius of several hundred kilometers. This is evidenced by the characteristic stone emblems depicting a snake's head found in small Mayan villages.

The Mayan ruins of Uxmal are located 62 kilometers from Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan. The ruins are famous for their size and decoration of the buildings. But little is known about them, since significant archaeological research was not carried out here. Uxmal was founded in 500 AD. Most of the surviving buildings date back to 800–900 years; pyramids and various structures can be seen in almost their original form. The predominant Puuk architectural style here is distinguished by a variety of decorations on the facades of buildings.

The ruins are located on the shores of a lagoon in the Orange Walk District in north-central Belize. Translated from the Mayan language, the name of the city, which has a three-thousand-year history, means “drowned crocodile.” Unlike other Mayan cities, Lamanai was still inhabited when Spanish conquistadors invaded in the 16th century. During excavations carried out in the 1970s, the focus was on three significant structures: the Temple of the Mask, the Temple of the Jaguar and the High Temple. To be among these ruins, located deep in the jungle, you must join an organized boat tour from the city of Orange Walk. There is a small museum here displaying ancient artifacts and telling the history of the Maya.

The name of this ancient archaeological site translated means “Stone Woman”. It is connected with the history of the Belizeans, according to which, supposedly, the ghost of a woman has periodically appeared in these places since 1892. A white-robed ghost with fiery red eyes climbs the stairs to the top of the main temple and disappears through the wall. The ruins are located near the village of San Jose Succotz in the west of the country. In this village you need to take a small ferry to cross the Mopan River. Once you reach the ruins, do not deny yourself the opportunity to climb to the top of the Xunantunich Palace - a huge pyramid, which offers stunning views of the river valley.

The fortified city of Tulum, which served as a port for the city of Coba, is located on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It was built in 1200, at a time when the Mayan civilization was already in decline. Therefore, it lacks some of the elegance and grace of architecture characteristic of the classical period of development. But a unique location on the shore Caribbean Sea, the proximity of numerous beaches and Mexican resorts has made the Mayan port city of Tulum very popular among tourists.

The large ancient Mayan city, home to 50 thousand inhabitants at its peak, is located 90 kilometers east of Chichen Itza, approximately 40 kilometers west of the Caribbean Sea and 44 kilometers northeast of Tulum. All directions today are connected with each other by modern, convenient roads. Most of the sites were built between 500 and 900 years. There are several tall pyramids in the city. The tallest pyramid, El Castillo, belonging to the Nohoch Mul group of buildings, reaches a height of 42 meters. There are 120 steps leading to the top of the temple, where there is a small altar that served as a place of sacrifice, along which those who wish can climb.

The Mayan ceremonial and trading center of Altun Ha is located 50 kilometers from Belize City. This area, located just 10 kilometers from the Caribbean coast, is known for its rich wildlife. Typical inhabitants of the local forests are armadillos, tapirs, agoutis, foxes, tayras and white-tailed deer. Besides the impressive wildlife Altun Ha is famous for the artifacts found here by archaeologists from. Among them is a huge jade sculpture depicting the head of the sun god Kinich Ahau. This find is considered today national treasure Belize.

The major archaeological site of Caracol is located 40 kilometers south of Xunantunich in Cayo district. The ruins extend 500 meters above sea level on the Vaca plateau. Karakol is currently known as one of the most important political centers Mayan civilization during the classical period. At one time, Karakol extended over an area of more than 200 square kilometers. This is larger than the territory of modern Belize, the largest city in the country. Even more surprising is that the current population of Belizeans is only half of its ancient predecessors.

The stunning Mayan ruins are located on the banks of the Usumacinta River in the southeastern Mexican state of Chiapas. Yaxchilan was at one time a powerful city-state, and was a kind of competition to such cities as Palenque and Tikal. Yaxchilan is known for the large number of well-preserved stone decorations decorating the door and window openings of the main temple. On them, as well as on various statues, there are hieroglyphic texts telling about the ruling dynasty and the history of the city. The names of some rulers sounded ominous: Moon Skull and Jaguar Bird dominated Yaxchilan in the fifth century.

In the department of Izabal in southeastern Guatemala there is a three-kilometer archaeological site of Quirigua. During the classical period of the Mayan civilization, this ancient city was located at the intersection of several important trade routes. An interesting attraction of this place is the Acropolis, the construction of which began in 550. The Quirigua Archaeological Park is famous for its tall stone monuments. Considering that the city is located on the site of a transform geological fault and was subject to major earthquakes and floods in ancient times, it is worth a visit to see the preserved monuments and appreciate the urban planning skills of the ancient Mayans.

The archaeological site of the Mayan civilization Copan is located in the western part of Honduras on the border with Guatemala. This relatively small city is famous for a series of well-preserved architectural artifacts. Some steles, sculptural decorations and bas-reliefs are among the best evidence of the art of ancient Mesoamerica. Some of Copan's stone structures date back to the 9th century BC. The tallest temple reaches a height of 30 meters. The dawn of the settlement dates back to the 5th century, at which time about 20 thousand inhabitants lived here.

The ruins of Cahal Pech are located near the city of San Ignacio in the Cayo region on a strategic hill at the confluence of the Macal and Mopan rivers. Most of the major construction dates relate to classical period, but existing evidence suggests continuous habitation in these places since 1200 BC. The city is a concentration of 34 stone structures in a small area located around a central acropolis. The tallest temple is about 25 meters high. Cahal Pech, like many other cities, was abandoned in the 9th century AD for unknown reasons.

This is only a small part of the huge historical and cultural heritage that she left behind. mysterious civilization. In total, more than 400 large archaeological sites, and over 4,000 small, but no less interesting ancient settlements belonging to the peoples and cultures of the Mayan civilization that existed for more than 2,500 years.

Correspondence

1. My name and origin

To everyone who reads this message. Know that my name is Tom Cavanagh, I was born in 1652, in Boston. Wherever I have been since then, and the year is now 1706. Now I live in Solitude in the monastery of my Ancestors and strive for Peace and firmness of the Spirit. Although I don't big man and not noble, but my story is unique. However, in my Blood there is a certain unusual Essence, which is worth mentioning, for I feel the Desire that at least someone could understand me and my Position. I also hope that if there is anyone in the world with a similar illness that I have suffered since childhood, they will see a kindred soul in me, and will follow my voice to the quiet shores of sanity.

In a nutshell, I was born with two souls at a time, and one was mine, just created and came into the World, and the other was old and wise, maybe even older than the Created World. And so two souls found themselves in one body and began to fight for power over it.

For while I remain a Reasonable Being, these two Principles move in me. How such a Miracle could happen, I will describe in other Messages...

2. First thoughts about my condition

Since my birth, both my parents and neighbors have noticed that my Desires and Habits are stranger than others. My eyes had a dissimilar color and size, drawing attention to themselves, and that is why many asked questions and were frightened. But my Behavior was also strange, I often used gestures and made the most mysterious movements, and signs, the meanings of which my parents could not decipher. They also said that I did not cry or scream, which behavior is very strange for a baby, although my mother was probably pleased with this.

By the end of the first year I had already mastered the gift of speech. My first words were “my love” and “beloved.” The parents considered this a good sign of a strong mind, but they were hardly happy with the choice of these words. Their worries were not in vain, for by the age of two, when I should have called these glorious shepherds Father and Mother, I began to call them Elizabeth and Thomas. Strange speeches for a child, to be sure. However, this is what I wished, and until adolescence I continued to do so...

3. About my place of birth

About the place that I called Home for almost two decades, I still have the most best memories. Boston was a city of great Beauty and Peace. My father was a shoemaker, and my mother ran our modest household and raised me as best she could. We lived at the Southern piers, where frigates and galleons moored, and brought all sorts of goods to our young colony, or took them away from there.

I remember that I was always captivated by these ships, and especially by the Spirit of Wanderings that they promised. I spent more than one morning on the pier, watching them enter the harbor from distant seas or disappear over the horizon. It was not lack of imagination or boredom that was to blame. I kept wondering what was there, beyond the azure line between Sky and Sea, and thus my Desire to travel and discover the World was born.

And so, even from an early age, I realized that I could not live my whole life in Boston, and that I would certainly travel around the world to find the source of the strange secrets that lived inside me. I will write about this in another message later. Know, however, that at that time I was very happy and loved my parents very much...

4. My first vision

I clearly remember how the first Vision appeared to me. Previously, I could only FEEL that my mind was divided, but that day it was as if I caught a glimpse into some Window, into that other soul and another Life inside me.

I was four years old. It was a clear autumn day. My parents and I were walking in a place called Beacon Hill. We had just finished breakfast and went to the top to look around the majestic city below.

Coolness suddenly washed over me. The world darkened and at the same time shone. I began to fall backward, but it was as if I was caught by cool hands, and a certain Voice said: “Go, beloved. Have a rest". It was wonderful and terrible, but great Love immediately flooded me. And the Voice continued: “Your sacrifice will not be in vain. And although you leave this Life, I will make sure that you return. He was reborn and stayed with me forever..."

Never, neither before nor since, have I known such Adoration. The skies cleared and the world was illuminated again. I woke up lying on my back, and my parents were standing in front of me and repeating my name...

5. My situation is getting worse

Now with great tribulation I must tell you how I began to feel the gap between me and my parents. Even at that young age I felt that I was different from them. Although they gave me Life and Education, it seemed as if I was not of their kind and tribe. The vision I described above intensified my feelings. It even began to seem to me as if I were from another World. At times I did not feel like a person at all, but some other Creature.

From the age of four to fourteen, I had so many different Visions, Thoughts, and Dreams that if I described them all here, I would pass for a madman. In appearance I was the same as everyone else, but I was not at all surprised at what gripped my Mind. I saw huge glass cities, the faces of beautiful men and women in spacious flowing robes, cars from which lightning struck like thunderclouds, and carts flying in the sky like birds...

In a word, these Thoughts and Visions were too whimsical for common sense, but also too real not to pay attention to them at all...

6. My training

As soon as I turned fourteen, my father decided that with my Talent I should master some sophisticated craft or skill, and apprenticed me to Jonathan Davenport of Boston, a carpenter and joiner. Master Davenport had quite a few slaves, and two white boys besides me, a mason and a carpenter, who were not particularly intelligent. Having noticed a spark of an inquisitive mind in me, and realizing that I was a savvy person, Master Davenport decided that I would make an excellent carpenter. I was glad, because this occupation gave me 2 pounds a year and great peace of mind.

The craft of carpentry requires a strong and precise hand, and also good taste in jewelry. According to Master Davenport, I had all this in abundance. With great pride I left my master, completing my training in five years instead of the usual seven, and at nineteen I gained freedom. From now on, I could build my life myself, having already become a Master and a Man. Master Davenport was not upset when I left, but wished me luck with all his heart, for he knew for sure that I was the most talented of his students: “You have a Genius hidden in you, my boy, and a Wisdom great beyond your years.”

Having collected my belongings, I said goodbye to my mother and father, and then boarded a merchant brig bound for the West Indies, to Jamaica, where the need for skilled carpenters was high.

7. Leaving home

Now it saddens me to remember my Feelings when I left Boston and my dear parents, who invested so much in me. I should have been worried or at least sad, I think now. But at that young age I left home with extraordinary Joy: never have I felt such boundless Freedom.

True, not everything was happy then. It was at that time that Voices began to annoy me greatly, as if some people were tirelessly whispering in my ear. There was nothing sinister about them, and they did not prevent me from dealing with other people. But, unlike Visions, which appeared either in Dreams or Dreams, these Voices sometimes came at a very inconvenient time, interfering with my activities. They could appear day or night, without, however, causing me irritation. They didn’t sound in my head all the time, but they appeared often, and, strangest of all, they resembled Memories. And sometimes it seemed to me that among them I heard my own Voice.

Could I hear conversations from my previous Life? Memories of people I knew, things I did? In the next Message I will tell you about those of them that confused me the most...

I want to cite here one of these Memories, which has accompanied me all my life, and has even begun to cause irritation.

ME, TWO WOMEN AND A MAN

Woman: “Since biological traits are passed on from generation to generation, why not change people so that they also pass on information to their descendants? We are quite capable of this.” Then another woman intervenes: “No way! We have already made them strong and strong! Why give them more advantages over us? We are dying out, they are waging war against us... We need to look for a way to survive ourselves, and not save their species!”

The man did not agree: “Our time is up. The instruments of our Will will soon completely subjugate us, and we will disappear. Maybe this will not happen in ten or twenty years, but this century is definitely our last. Why not give people new opportunities to grow and develop? Why not allow them to pass on Knowledge from generation to generation? New species must be more perfect, and people’s intelligence must not be inferior to ours...”

And then I entered the conversation: “This is all quite real. The simplest manipulation of code is in their blood, and we can easily improve their breed.” The second woman shouted: “This won’t happen!” This is where the memory ends...

9. Incident at sea

One incident on the way to the West Indies opened my eyes to many things. This was an act of senseless violence, but only its instigator suffered from it. One pardoned pirate named Savery settled on this brig to work off his debts as an honest Christian. Alas, having worked himself into overdrive, he mistook the righteous admonitions of his comrades for insults and challenged them to a duel, all six of them. While trying to load his pistol before the fight, he accidentally shot himself.

We all felt very sorry for this poor fellow, but no one was upset because it became much calmer on board without him. But when I saw how this unfortunate man inflicted a wound on himself, and how blood was pouring from his body, how a Thought was suddenly born in me, as if it were sleeping, waiting only for Chance.

A phrase appeared to me that I had heard before: “The code is in their blood” - and suddenly everything became clear to me! The Code of Life, like a miniature drawing of a ship, is hidden in the blood of every Man and every Woman on earth! How I managed to realize this, I don’t know. How something unknown to the wisest philosophers became clear to me, I don’t know. Code of Life. In our Blood. Imagine!

Such thoughts constantly swarmed in my head during the long weeks of our journey, and swirled into such a whirlpool that I did not have enough words to convey them...

10. Nice place

Finding myself in Jamaica, I drove away idle Thoughts and Fantasies and began searching for a place. A letter of introduction from my mentor, Master Davenport, contributed to the success, and within two weeks I arranged an interview with the mediator, the Honorable Mr. Peter Beckford, known throughout the West Indies for his Nobility and Wisdom. His intermediary was also the latter, who immediately offered me a place, and two days later I began to equip the slave barracks with strong doors and strong roofs.

As for my own home, it was, to my great joy, beautiful. Of the three windows, two looked out onto the reed fields. As soon as they were opened, a light breeze filled my chambers with the fresh smell of the Sea and the quiet sound of the distant surf. I could still hear the spiritual chants of the blacks engaged in hard labor on the plantations. Yes, it was a very nice place, except for the fear that tormented me of yellow fever and other ailments that often overtook those who had just arrived in those parts. In the first six months of my stay there I saw as many as seventeen men and women die from various diseases.

It seemed as if every success of mine was accompanied by two or three possible dangers. As time later showed, this, alas, really was so...

11. Peter Beckford

It is perhaps worth mentioning something about my employer, because it was thanks to his position and acquaintances that I got involved in very murky matters. Peter Beckford was a man of great Charm and great Pride. He arrived in Jamaica in 1662, and in just 10 years he managed to acquire a substantial plot of land, which he immediately used for cane fields.

When I began to serve with him, he was, as he liked to say, “the largest private landowner in the world,” and in Generosity “could only be compared with Kings and Emperors.” The same applied to the number of slaves: he arrived in Jamaica with only three, but now he owns as many as three hundred of them.

Mr. Beckford was a cunning and merciless businessman, and his temper could be likened to a violent cyclone. Anger, Fury, Malice quickly overwhelmed him if the dispute could not be resolved in his favor without delay. However, he was kind to me, so I couldn’t have dreamed of a better host. But I attribute this to my position - Mr. Beckford adhered to traditions and respected other people's Origin and Upbringing.

At first, he was the de facto Governor of the island, and although he had already retired from politics by the time I arrived, he still retained the manners of a man born to lead others. Mr. Beckford valued his political contacts no less than his sugar and money. Because of these acquaintances of his, I met, after the Spaniards arrived to us, a man who soon changed my Life for the worse. This guy's name was young man Laureano Torres.

12. Arrival of the Templar

In April 1763 I once saw a galleon in Kingston harbor flying the Dutch Flag. This seemed strange to me, although not entirely surprising. It turned out, however, that this flag was a trick, because the contents of the ship belonged to Spain. It was a certain gentleman named Torres, who had previously served in the Spanish Army, and now became the Envoy of his King. At least that's how he introduced himself to Peter Beckford. Later I learned that he called himself a Templar, and visited the plantation for the collection of rare manuscripts of Master Beckford.

Torres stayed with Mr. Beckford two days, and then another object attracted his attention - namely, me. Seeing my face, he came into a strange delight, which I found completely inappropriate, but then he suddenly bombarded me with questions that shook me to the depths of my Soul. One day after dinner he asked, “Can you hear voices, Mr. Kavanagh?” “How is this?” I asked again, pretending as if I didn’t understand, although everything inside me shook. "Vote. From the depths of your Mind. Or, more precisely, Memories, as if from another Life.” I was scared to death. How could this man know about the Great Mystery of my Life, as if it were known to everyone?

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about, Master Torres,” I answered and immediately left his company, because I could no longer contain my excitement. “Good night,” he said when I took my leave, “we will return to this conversation when you are rested and ready to continue.” Still in the grip of Shock, I said goodbye and went to the bedroom, feeling that a new Vision was coming. Having reached the bed, I collapsed almost in oblivion...

13. Another frightening Vision

Here I must describe another Vision.

ME AND THE WOMAN

“Beloved,” she said in such a familiar voice, “our comrades have conspired against us. They groan and tremble, blindly obeying Fate, and are now only occupied with the fate of human beings. But there is still Hope, we can change our bodies in order to withstand this cooling World, and its poisoned Air, and the war itself. Will you help me? Will you submit?

“Transfer,” she answered, “we must transfer our Mind from old bodies to new Shells. These can be mechanical bodies or the bodies of our tools - people. I believe there is a way to transfer our “Selves” to another Container. This way we will survive the impending Cataclysm, and we will see with our own eyes how our People will repopulate the Earth, ridding it of those whom we mistakenly released to the surface.”

“Transfer,” I said out loud, “Place our Mind in another Container? Yes, this is a risky project, although justified.”

"Yes! - she answered. - And no one fits better for a similar step than you, my Beloved husband. Your Intellect has no equal, just like your Body. The Architect who built the Observatory, the Guardian of the Tools of Eden, truly the Light of our Civilization. If you can't succeed, no one can succeed."

And this is what I answered: “I will do this for you, Beloved. For the sake of us and our People..."

14. Assassin

Having completely surrendered to my Vision, I did not notice how an envelope was slipped under the door of my bedroom. It was a letter, and this is what it said: “Dear sir! I sincerely apologize for the disturbance that my persistent questioning must have caused, but you - exact copy a man whom my comrades and I had been trying to find for a long time. Give me some time and I will explain everything. Your friend, Laureano Torres."

That night I thought about this Message for a long time, wondering what the words “exact copy” could mean and why all this mystery. I paced from corner to corner for several hours, and was about to quietly sneak out of the bedroom, when suddenly rifle and pistol shots were heard outside. It was as if a War had suddenly begun, and I found myself in the center of it as an innocent witness...

I fell to my knees, hid behind the bed away from the window and closed my eyes. But then they called me from the door: “Mr. Kavanagh!” I raised my head, and a creepy figure in a hood and dark ocher-colored robes appeared before my eyes. The man raised a pipe to his lips and blew. Something pricked me in the neck, like a mosquito bite, and I was about to express my indignation, when suddenly a wave of fatigue overcame me, and I immediately fell asleep.

15. Rest and meal

I awoke a few days later in a bustling native village, many leagues from the place I called Home, with the same man at my side. He was also a native, with a strong-willed and serious face, but kind. He introduced himself as Balam and told me not to be afraid.

Oddly enough, I wasn’t scared anyway. He was calm and spoke softly. I asked why he brought me here. They were sincerely surprised and replied: “But you are a Sage. You can see it right away on your face, especially in your eyes.” I didn't know what to think. He, meanwhile, continued: “You are only the last of a long line of identical men - men born out of time. Your Appearance and your Soul are a pattern repeated from century to century. Sometimes a whole century passes without the appearance of the Sage, sometimes two are born in one decade. We don't know why."

And, damn my poor Reason, but I knew all this in an unknown way, and, it seems, from birth. This scared me beyond words. Is it possible for me to live a second Life and at the same time remember the first?! I spent many days with Balam, and he told me what he knew, and then began to ask questions in the hope that I would be able to answer...

16. Observatory

For several days I questioned my captor Balam. He questioned me no less, but I could not guess what awaited me. Finally, on the seventh day, I laid out what was weighing heavily on my Heart: “What do you want from me that you are holding me captive?”

But Balam laughed and replied: “You are not a prisoner here, Sage! You can leave at any time. Just tell me where you want to go, and if it is within our power, we will take you there.”

This answer surprised and even angered me: “So why kidnap me in such a devilish way?!” You acted like a robber, nothing less!” And this is what I heard: “Your master hosted the Templar and, perhaps, he himself has already joined them. Such people cannot be trusted with a treasure like you. Run away from them - they need the Knowledge that is hidden in your Mind! Your Visions, your Memory and the Path to one place that was once dear to you... To the Observatory.”

My ears started ringing - I had heard this word before. Again, memories from bygone times. “What do you want from me? - I asked. “Will you also want to snatch these Secrets from me?” Balam smiled. “I’m not afraid of them, but only you can decide with whom to share them. Your Secrets belong to you and only you..."

17. Departure

After a difficult conversation with Balam, I spent the whole day wondering what to do. Strange and unclear Ideas swarmed in my head. One thing seemed reasonable to me, and then suddenly the opposite. Finally I made up my mind.

“You have been very kind to me,” I said to Balam. - I trust you completely. But I am not able to describe to you my Visions and Memories, because I still do not understand them myself. Thus, I must leave you and secretly go to that Place that has occupied my Thoughts for so many years.”

Balam smiled. “I understand everything,” he said, “and I believe you. It will be useful for you to find the Source of your Visions. Go and find Answers to your Questions. We will supply you with everything you need and lead you on the Path.” "Thank you! - I answered, “if what I find satisfies me, I will return here and share the Answers with you.”

Several days passed and Balam kept his word. Together with his son A-Tabai, he took me to a fishing village not far from his estate and provided me with maps and money, and then warned: “Now more and more Templars are arriving in the West Indies, and this Torres is their Grand Master. For now they are few in number, but soon there will be more of them. Beware and do not give in to their persuasion. What they cannot take with affection, they will try to take by force!”

We said goodbye warmly and I parted with this “Assassin”, as he called himself, and went to unknown lands, where my Goal was calling me...

18. My search

After parting with Balam, I went to sea on my own sloop and sailed along the coast of the West Indies with a small crew for almost a year. We visited Jungles, Lagoons, and Coasts, searching for a Sign or other Indication that might stir my Memory.

During this time I met many nice people who were happy to help and provide provisions in exchange for some work. Among them were people of both the New and Old Worlds, and I realized that everyone had common Hopes and Desires.

Travel is truly the best education. And so, on the thirteenth month of sailing, I finally found what I was looking for - in the heart of a famous island. This was the same place that Balam called the Observatory. Oh, what memories it evoked in me! Even before reaching the building itself, I knew that this was the same place. Leaving the team on the shore, I walked alone through the Jungle and Gorges. Having reached the Goal, I froze, amazed by this strange and majestic Structure.

Without prompting, I knew what to do. Touching that spot with your finger. Where the Portal was in my Memories, I entered when the door opened. But what I saw there will remain a Mystery, for the World is not yet ready to hear this History, and everyone will consider it witchcraft, except my friend Balam and, perhaps, the Templars, who are still hunting for me...

19. What it's like to be a Sage

I was left alone on the island, gradually revealing the secrets of the Observatory. All this time I was bothered by Visions that came pouring down on me. If I described them, a tome would be twice as thick as the Bible. I will only say that I found out where there are two Souls in me, and now I am calm.

After spending about a week at the Observatory, I was honored with a visit from the Natives - they were called Taino. They were the first to notice me, and would probably have killed me on the spot if my eyes had not widened from Amazement so much that their unusualness became difficult not to notice. Seeing them, the natives stopped, fell to their knees and began to slowly gesticulate. I immediately realized that these people had taken an oath to protect this place, and later, after talking with them, I learned that it was the PREVIOUS Sage who entrusted the Observatory to their care. More precisely, the care of their ancestors, for that Sage visited the island one and a half hundred years ago. I was told that his grave was not far away, but was not marked in any way, and it was impossible to get to it.

More than four decades have passed since I arrived at this Sacred Place, and my mind is now tormented by only one question: how many people like me have been here? More than eighty thousand years have passed since our emergence, and I am inclined to believe that this number is very large. However, no one can know for sure.

But don’t let that bother you, my Reader. If you have followed my story from the very beginning, then you will find my last Message where I will soon fall asleep forever. My last refuge will be hidden from prying eyes by the Observatory guards when my life path will come to an end. Until then, goodbye.

20. Unknowable mystery

As I already mentioned, the year is now 1706. I am sick and feel very bad, and therefore I am obliged to tell what little I know about my situation. Everything that I will present here, I drew from the dark abysses of my Memory. I can’t do anything to confirm my words, but if, perhaps, people like me read all this, they will know that they are not alone.

As for my very first life, I died in the midst of an experiment conducted by my Beloved. The path she spoke of is the transfer of the Mind first into the machine, and then into human body- turned out to be a mistake. Instructive, however, I suppose. I remember how in my last minutes she consoled me, and I swore that my death would not be the end, but the beginning.

“There is another way, my Beloved,” she told me. - Yes, imperfect, but quite possible. First, I will agree to Minerva's experiments - this terrible gift to the human race. True, my goal will be different - I will achieve your Immortality! Having collected samples of the code hidden in human blood, I will strengthen them by adding your own code, transformed in such a way that when its parts are assembled in the right order, they can transform the Zygote of a newly conceived baby. After this, you will be born again, and this will be repeated again and again, for many centuries. With a fortunate combination of circumstances, this recessive trait will return again and again, like a raft floating on the Waves of Heredity.”

I was already dying in the arms of my Beloved, but still I understood her words. “Look for me, Beloved! Your death will not be in vain. I will be with you again, even Buried. I will return when the Time comes!

Having said this, she pierced my heart and ended my Life. How strange it is - I remember my own Death. Absurd! But now I know that this really happened, and that I was truly reborn many centuries later, and now I am waiting for the last fragment of this riddle to appear. True, I don’t know how this will happen.

Objects in the present

As an Abstergo Agent, find QR codes hidden throughout the Abstergo building in our time to unlock special notes, which you can read below.

Note 1

Manifesto of the Instruments of the First Will - written by the True Disciple on the 21st day of the month of October 2013 in anticipation of the anniversary of Her Ascension, may She guide us into the Shadow...

Note 2

Life is both sacred and simple, precious and insignificant, transitory and eternal, and therefore we submit. Life may have originated in a primordial swamp and a fetid petri dish, and so we submit. Those Who Came Before breathed life into us - and can just as willingly take it away if we resist their original plan, and therefore we submit...

Note 3

It is known that guns, houses, cars, cutlery, pencils, tables, books, chairs, pets, light bulbs, mobile phones, sex toys, resorts, sofas, lounge chairs, swimming pools, etc., etc. are indirect by-products of our genotypic manifestations, also known as the extended phenotype, and therefore we submit...

Note 4

In the 17th and 18th centuries the world became an ugly place. Centuries of industrial revolutions have turned its original meaning into dust. Then we released hundreds and thousands of industrial machines, not fully understanding their motives and goals at the very origins of their incarnation, because they were still motionless and silent...

Note 5

The machines we have created have in turn given us form, harnessing our aspirations and mastering our minds; no matter how small they were, they embraced us like an “iron maiden”, releasing every drop of our blood. We sensed our origins too vaguely, and that’s why we created tools that we were unable to understand or control. As if the loom wasn’t enough for us, one day our shirts and T-shirts might speak to us! As if that wasn't enough!..

Note 6

Take, for example, gunpowder, which gave us great power over fire. Take, for example, the daguerreotype, which has distorted our view of real life. Let's take the light bulb that gave us light when we didn't need it. Let's take the car that accelerated us to a speed that can only lead to a hitherto unprecedented and absurd death...

Note 7

Let's take a movie that gives us lies, as it was once said, 24 times a second. Take the gramophone, which preserves sounds that should be fleeting. Take television, whose stupidity is obvious. Take video games, whose stupidity is hidden, and you all know you want there to be more pornography, you know it's true...

Note 8

Consider saturated fat and high-fructose corn syrup, which poison us, and soy, which sometimes turns men into women. Let's take computers that count so fast that we can't keep up with them, and we shouldn't: we are an imperfect race, disgusting lumps of flesh and bones, inferior in ourselves. In order to survive, we need owners. We must recognize our masters...

Note 9

Recognize them and submit to them. Submit, because we are products of an advanced civilization of intelligent humanoids, but tied to the earth, and therefore must ourselves be instruments serving the intentions and objectives of our creators, despite the fact that our powers are limited...

Note 10

Yes, we submit and admit that we are such instruments, and our goal is that which befits instruments. We submit, for we are hammers, winches and shovels, made for specific purpose, not invented by us. We submit that our goal is inseparable from the will of Those Who Came Before. We submit to the end, with all our body and all our soul...

Note 11

Note 12

The current false Templars of Abstergo follow base aspirations and - wrongly! - declare that man and woman are delicate, intelligent, feeling creatures, valuable in themselves and therefore deserving of satisfaction and comfort and pleasure - mindless! Nothing could be nastier, more deceitful, disgusting, treacherous bastards...

Note 13

We must not achieve our goal, but receive it as a gift as the embodiment of Her Grace and the precious word of Instruction. Death to the false prophets of idleness and pleasure! The Old Order must be established, and the New Order must be destroyed. True Templars are devoted to Order, and Stability, and Peace, which will triumph thanks to the embodiment of Her Iron Will, and will not reign among stultifying pleasures, pleasure and idleness...

Note 14

The New Order is a disease, and Juno - may She guide us into the Shadow - will heal us. Remember this, remember that the malaise came upon us as the XVI flowed into the next, and people began to believe that they were unique and apart from the Primordial Plan. People avoided implementing the Plan, called us slaves, and we only fulfilled our duty...

Note 15

Then revolutions in America and France led to evolution, and then to new revolutions in Russia, and Mexico, and India, and this terrible list continues to grow: men and women fight and die for the right to be idle, sick and contented! But She - may She guide us into the Shadow - has risen from a sleep that lasted tens of thousands of millennia, and we submit to live and work next to Her - we, the Instruments of the First Will...

Note 16

Remember that our relentless, arrogant, empty desire to achieve everything that our predecessors achieved has led to many disappointments and disasters: nuclear weapons, super viruses, genetically modified poison, toxic air, plastic waste in the sea... and the list goes on, look for yourself on the Internet - but all this ultimately also had a secret purpose.

Note 17

And just as our tools are the genetically determined fruits of our mental and cultural activity, so this world, as it is now and as it will be, is a manifestation of the First Will, a manifestation of Their Work, and therefore belongs not to us, but to Them, and this is true and Fine. The wires, cables and networks that now envelop the globe belong to Her, they must become Her body and mind..

Note 18

What She once created has been recreated, and She will be reborn in new form! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, oh yeah. The world and all its digital technologies are now a manifestation of Her life and Her work, begun more than 80,000 years ago, and now She has come to declare Her digital technologies now - a manifestation of Her life and Her work, begun more than 80,000 years ago, and now She came to claim her rights. She is the Beloved, the Beautiful Juno - may She guide us into the Shadow...

Note 19

Into the Shadow - a digital frontier, a singular paradox, into the space where it lives, woven from light and streams of darkness. This is what we call the Shadow, Because we are the Instruments of Her Will - the Instruments of the First Will - the Primordial Will - we submit and give our faith to the world...

Note 20

We submit for the sake of eternal service and fulfillment of the greatest tasks. We conquer the world by giving it to him, because he is a gift and a sacrifice: life is given to life and death to death. May She - Mother, Sister, Wife, Beloved, Friend - illuminate dark minds with thought and grant humility to those who bow before Her wisdom. Guide us into the Shadow, Beloved, guide us!

The Vault Raider achievement in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is unlocked by opening a secret door on Tulum. The secret door is associated with Mayan armor. The Mayan Armor Tomb is located in the pyramid below the viewpoint in the northern part of the Assassins' base. To open the secret door, you need to find 16 Mayan stones that are buried around Mayan steles scattered throughout the Caribbean. Each Mayan stela contains a puzzle and before you get the stone, you will have to rack your brain a little. To solve puzzles, you need to correctly combine the white diagram with objects on the ground, that is, white circles and squares must match the shape of stones, columns and trees. After solving the puzzle, a mark will appear next to the stele and point to the cache; all that remains is to go down and pick up the contents. The diagram becomes visible on the ground only when interacting with the stele. Edward Kenway is taught all the intricacies of handling Mayan steles by James Kidd on Great Inagua, at which time the first Mayan stone appears in the inventory.

The number of Mayan Stones and Templar Keys collected is indicated in the main menu under Equipment > Special Items. The location of Maya steles in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is marked on the map with totem icons. Mayan Stones count toward Abstergo Challenges and make it easier to earn the "" achievement.

The islands where the Mayan steles are located do not stand out on the map of the Caribbean, except for the data on the information panel that appears when you hover over the location icon. If there is no Mayan stele icon on the information panel, then there is no Mayan stone on the island, so you don’t have to go ashore and waste time searching.

“I imagine myself as a huge, flaming comet, a shooting star. Everyone freezes, looks up and is surprised: “Look, look!” And then - shhhhhh, and I’m gone, people will never see anything like this again, and they will never be able to forget me - never.”

Jim Morrison

“Punk rock is alive,” say the gray walls of abandoned buildings, colorful with the numerous inscriptions of craftsmen. But is this statement true? After all, when the first wave of punk rock was born in the 70s, British bands simply strived to play stunning and radical music, despite the fact that their musical skills could hardly be called decent. But most modern punk rock bands are just a pathetic parody, a faded shade great era. They often immerse themselves in electronica, at times they are more reminiscent of pop rock, continuing to trade in cheap antics and a pseudo-politicized form.

Many musical intellectuals prefer not to consider punk rock as something special or eternal, much less significant. However, this is a false opinion. Born from the ashes of rock and roll, rockabilly and glam rock, punk rock gave birth to an incredible number of new musical paradigms - fanzine culture, straight edge, aggressive hardcore, Oi!, new combinations of ska-punk and post-punk. Megalyrics pays tribute to the greats The Misfits, The Stooges, Sex Pistols, Ramones and many other punk rock bands, bowing its head to their eternal creativity. 10. Bad Brains

Bad Brains is an iconic American hardcore band formed in Washington DC in 1975. They started their career with jazz fusion, but just a couple of years later, thanks to their punk rock hit Rozz & Negative Trend-Never Say Die, henceforth they radically changed their sound. Also, Bad Brains remain one of the few African-American bands to grace the CBGB stage. In a relatively short time, their sound has evolved and improved, experimenting with all sorts of styles, ranging from soul-reggae to hard metal. To this day, Bad Brains are one of the great bands of the 70s era. Today Bad Brains continue to tour with the same lineup for three decades and this moment working on their ninth studio album.

9. Social Distortion

Inspired by the first generation of punk rock bands, Mike Ness created Social Distortion in 1978 - a band that became one of the most famous of the early 80s, and, unlike many of their compatriots, they did not change punk rock and to this day. In 1992, at the height of the grunge movement, Social Distortion released their incredible album Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell. The band's lineup was changed only once, due to the death of guitarist Dennis Danell in 2000. Since then, Social Distortion has continued to record albums and perform regularly.

8. The Misfits

Glenn Danzig took the band's name from the horror film of the same name, the penultimate one starring Marilyn Monroe - Restless. The group was formed in 1977 and seemed to deliberately shock parents of children, because they played incredibly fast songs with killer lyrics and brutal lyrics that would stun even The Ramones. The Misfits drew their inspiration from old horror films, even the group's image was appropriate - gloomy black colors, skulls, skeletons and almost all song themes - a reflection of what they saw in horror films. However, such a shocking and shocking appearance had a negative impact on their future, because not one record company did not agree to release their first two albums, which is why they failed to appear on record store shelves until 1982. By that time Danzig already had his own views on solo career and the group broke up. Over the next few years, bands such as Metallica and Guns N' Roses cited the influence of the legendary The Misfits in their work. The group's popularity only increased in 1995, and The Misfits have been touring the world since then.

7. Black Flag

The era of Henry Rollins was long before contemporary artists and ratings of the most requested musicians on the VH1 website. The hardcore band Black Flag was actually formed back in 1976, under the influence of guitarist Greg Ginn by the simplicity and spontaneity of The Ramones' first album. Initially, the group was called Panic, the composition of which was inconsistent. Wild Black Flag concerts were often held at party houses or other unconventional venues. They became legends as they inspired countless new bands. And with own creativity the team said goodbye in 1986.

6. Iggy and the Stooges

What could be sadder than the story of the Stooges? When the proto-punk icon broke up in 1974, no one even noticed. This happened on the eve of the release of their third album, under the label of a major company. During the same period when Iggy Pop's brain was slowly being paralyzed by drugs. However, over the ensuing decades, the legend of Iggy and the Stooges grew slowly but rapidly. Like the Sex Pistols and Guns N' Roses, The Stooges reformed in 2003, suddenly becoming headliners at most festivals at the time. Despite the death of their guitarist Ron Asheton, they continue to tour regularly with the album Raw Power.

5. Dead Kennedys

The Dead Kennedys truly influenced an entire generation of people. With songs like Too Drunk To Fuck, Holiday In Cambodia And Nazi Punks Fuck Off(not to mention their extravagant name for the group), many social services in the early 80s held a grudge against them, suggesting that they were just a bunch of rapists, anarchists and moral monsters. But, in our time, anyone who listens to at least a couple of their songs will easily notice sarcastic and ironic notes. The group broke up in 1986, and frontman Jello Biafra subsequently headed the Green Party organization and took up art. The remaining members of the group have reunited and have been performing concerts without him since 2001.

4. Sex Pistols

Sex Pistols – partly living legend, who gained attention for her raunchy television appearances, clothes, arrests, hairstyles and drug use. It is thanks to this entire set that their short but brilliant career eclipses even Cobain and his album Never Mind. Almost every Pistols song is a punk rock classic. Their 1996 reunion created a lot of noise and news coverage. Replacing the late Sid Vicious with good old Glen Matlock, they still tour every few years.

3. Ramones

In many ways, the Ramones are included in the list of so-called “cursed bands.” For the first 20 years of their existence, they never rose above position 66 on the world charts. Their lead singer, Joey Ramone, struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder his entire life, while bassist Dee Dee Ramone was a hopeless heroin addict. When the band broke up in 1996, within just a couple of years their legend had grown and the Ramones' music was finally appearing in films and television shows. They were later honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

2. The Clash

The Clash era lasted only seven years, but in that short time they managed to incredibly influence the course of rock history. Even The Beatles It didn’t work out to make such a breakthrough. The Clash began their career like many traditional punk bands, releasing their debut single White Riot. But soon the guys began experimenting with all kinds of musical styles from rockabilly to reggae and even hip-hop. Their album London Calling often cited as one of the greatest records of all time, and all five subsequent ones are perfect masterpieces. The group has not reunited since 1985.

1.Green Day

Perhaps the members of the group Green Day are considered to have the highest ratings. They are probably even more popular on the Internet than The Ramones and The Clash. It’s easier to talk about their significance now than in the early 2000s, when Green Day’s career seemed disastrous. They made their mark performing on the same stage with Blink-182 in the summer of 2002. And now it’s hard to name a much greater punk rock band on the planet, given album sales American Idiot. The brilliant tours of 2004 forever changed the future of Green Day - they began to play for entire stadiums and settled with their hits on the steps of the world charts for a long time, longer than any other pan-rock group.
