Good day local ladies. As a bisexual guy, I would like to speak about the comment above, regarding the local purely female audience. So, why are BL mostly watched/read by girls? They have already answered for themselves. I would like to clarify what exactly scares guys away. I’ll say right away that I will judge by myself, but my opinion is not special or isolated. Yes, I watched these anime, and more than one, but somehow I didn’t get into it from the very first episodes. I won’t indulge in demagoguery about pink snot, romanticization of violence, flat plotting and obstruction of adequate representation of gay relationships. The main reason is that realism is completely absent in most local anime. Okay, I'm not taking into account the mysticism, so I'll look at anime of the everyday genre and the main aspects that make me furiously hit my face with my hand.1) If the anime is yaoi, then everyone around is gay. Okay, yaoi is an anime about gays, that makes sense. But why make almost all the characters homosexual? In some yaoi anime there are no women at all, but all the guys sleep with each other, but this is completely clinical.
2) Characters change orientation in a couple of seconds. Well, a guy can’t be straight and suddenly jump on dicks like that. Even if he had some internal conflict and he did not admit his orientation, then it would be possible to at least somehow develop this topic.
4) No homophobia. Everything is so rosy and sugary. And to my parents: beep: and to my classmates (who are also all gay, yes, yes). I understand that the action does not take place in Russia, but even in tolerant countries there is some homophobe. The government there is tolerant, not 100% of the population. And more often than not, if this unfortunate homophobe is in an anime, then he is definitely gay too. (Okay, you can ignore this point, because some people just want to see a world without hatred, but personally, this fact of denial of reality offends me.)
5) The plot develops too quickly. So he met him, after a couple of minutes of the anime they are already kissing, and after 10 they are already in the same bed and not even always by voluntary consent. Even in porn it takes longer, seriously.
6) None plot twists except for relationships. More often than not, there is no reveal of the identities of other characters, no subplot, nothing at all except gays for the sake of gays. The plot of this anime does not shine with anything at all, except for dubious drama and pink snot, which I tried not to mention. And the plot is often the same.
7) Some authors simply do not know male anatomy (not artistic). No, I understand that a woman writes for women about the relationship between two men, but I have a feeling that they never communicated with the guys at all. Well, in the sense that one touched the other’s nipples and he came? What do you mean, damn?! I’m generally silent about sex.
8) Standard character archetypes. I will probably upset many, but in real relationships there is rarely such a strong contrast between a passive and active partner. This will probably upset me even more, but most gays are generalists.
9) The last point is you, dear Yaoischits. I won’t generalize, but there are a lot of inadequate people among you who create a negative impression of fans of the genre as a whole. Inadequate people who have only dicks in their heads. Inadequate people who are furiously looking for a gay friend to be friends with his orientation. Inadequate people who impose their tastes on other people. Inadequate people who go to yuri manga to write their “fu”. I can list them endlessly.
So, I foresee the question: “What have you forgotten here and why shouldn’t you go where you usually go?”
The trick is that sometimes I run out of normal content and check out new ones, hoping for the best. At least I recently found “Master of the Devil Cult” and I like it.
