Tomsk Regional Drama Theater named after V. P. Chkalov- theater in the city of Tomsk.

Story

One of the oldest cultural and entertainment institutions in Siberia, it dates back to 1850, when Nikolai Evtikhievich Filimonov, a Tomsk entrepreneur-gold miner, city mayor of Tomsk (1840-1848), partly with his own funds, partly with funds collected by subscription, built the first Tomsk wooden theater building. The first theater in Tomsk existed for 32 years.

The new theater building in 1885 was built at his own expense by the Tomsk merchant E.I. Korolev (Korolevsky Theater). The Korolevsky Theater died in a fire on October 20 (November 2), 1905, when a meeting organized there by the Tomsk Committee of the RSDLP was destroyed by Tomsk Black Hundreds, who set fire to the theater building.

After 1905 for theatrical productions stages were provided by the Tomsk Public Assembly, the Free Library, etc.

In 1918-1919, the drama studio of I. G. Kalabukhov worked in Tomsk, then the Theater of the Soviet Deputies, and from the fall of 1920 - the Theater of Studio Works of A. D. Popov.

The Bolshoi City Theater was organized in November 1922 in the former building of the Public Assembly. In 1923, it was transformed into the A. V. Lunacharsky Drama and Comedy Theater; for one season, N. Erdman, who was exiled to Tomsk, collaborated with the theater.

In August 1941, the Tomsk Theater was transferred to Kemerovo. From 1941 to 1944, the First Belarusian State Theater operated in Tomsk.

Recreated regional theater opened in Tomsk on April 30, 1945, bringing together the troupe of the front-line theater named after V.P. Chkalov, artists who returned from Kemerovo and Narym. Thus, the Tomsk theater received the name of V.P. Chkalov. The theater was located at 4 Nakhanovich Lane, now the Tomsk Theater for Young Spectators is located here; the theater operated in these premises until 1978.

Theater building

The modern theater building is located on the site where there used to be a food market (closed in 1971) and shopping arcades. It was put into operation on December 30, 1977, and opened on February 4, 1978 with the play “Salty Pad” based on the novel by Sergei Zalygin, staged by Felix Grigoryan. The management of the theater and the department of culture of the regional administration plan to reconstruct the building.

The theater has two stages: main and small.

A presentation took place in October 2008.

Troupe

At the theater in different time worked: Yakov Rafalson, Lyudmila Potapova, Vladimir Kalisanov, Mikhail Borisov, Georgy Lesnikov and Natalya Yurgens (1960-1969).
