How to draw anime and manga characters. How to draw the body (manga and anime - general principles)

Drawing Lessons - Manga and Anime

The body has a skeletal structure. We need to add volume to the flat drawing.

Let's place our image or character in a cube, the base of which is the area under our feet.

The most difficult task in drawing the body is drawing in perspective. That's what we use the cube for.

Human skeleton and its structure

Let's look at the skeleton and start drawing.

By distributing body weight and turning the body, the correct image of the lower body can be achieved.

We draw with blocks.

If you imagine that the joint and stomach of a person are spheres, then you can immediately imagine the outlines of the muscles. In the same way, you can feel the three-dimensional structure of the human body.

Note the attachment of the collarbone.

Carefully consider the angle of the shoulders and their projection.

Use a 3D surface to make it easier to imagine the shoulder from the other side and indicate its shape.

Let's consider female body in blocks

Attention is paid to the sides. Women's posterior muscles, unlike men's, are shorter. They quickly move into the thighs.

To draw correctly, you need to remember about the parts of the body that are not visible.

Drawing movement
To correctly draw a human body in motion, you need to take the center line of the person’s spine and the curve of movement. The spine line separates the left and right sides human body. Balance is created, the line runs both in front and behind.

Attention should be paid to the waist. The center line should run along the visible side of the body.

The center line should run along the direction of movement of the person depicted. The line may even coincide with the movement curve.

The motion curve helps depict the position of the body in motion.

Drawing from the corner

Poses can be depicted using the form method. A more successful option would be to combine the skeletal method and viewing angle.

To simplify the work, you need to base the pose on the spine.

Normal male body shape

Introducing the things used for the image male body things to remember:
- elbow position when raising the arm;
- radius of movement of the shoulder and elbow;
- the muscles of the sternum and clavicle must be correctly positioned;
- muscles tense during movement;
- the area of the sternum and the area of constriction of the arms coincide;
- when the legs are together, there is a small gap between the thighs. If your legs are apart, the gap between your thighs increases. Never draw a crotch like in the picture (pictures above).

If you have difficulty with the length of your arms horizontal position, then a guide line should be used. It makes it possible to show the length of a part of a person’s arm. You can also choose how to add length to the biceps and elbow (hinge).

Now let's look from the back
- when bending, the muscles contract in the direction of the tilt.
- muscles stretch on the opposite side.
- the shoulder blades can be compared to the face.
- when a body is in motion, it is deformed.
- if the arm is raised up, the shoulder blade rises.

Now let's take a side view
Important! The face of the character being drawn is the size of the hand; it should cover the depicted face almost completely in height.

The forearm is equal to 1.5 times the length of the head, and the rest is equal to 2 heads.

The length of the foot and fingers is equal to the head.

Face, lips, nose and completely. This time we are starting the final part of the series of lessons - how to draw anime. This time we will look at one of the most important tasks, which directly touches the body. Since anime is not a portrait genre or not only a portrait genre, you can’t get by with just one head. Here you need to be able to draw the body in order to portray an anime character correctly, according to all the canons and laws of this genre. I'll give you some advice right away:

Anime characters or heroes are mostly thin and slender. Children are most often depicted as chubby in anime.

Basically, an anime body is built the same way as a body ordinary person. If you have not yet learned how to draw a human body, then I advise you to study the drawing lesson:. The anime body is not much different, except for its slightly exaggerated shapes. So, anime is characterized wasp waist, thinness, emphasized muscles.

Women have pronounced breasts, but men have a flat, but emphasized chest. When you draw a naked torso guy, you should not draw inflated pectoral muscles, since for the most part this is unusual for anime guys. An anime or manga guy's chest is flat, but not absent. In the following picture you can see that the rib cage can only be indicated by an angular line.

The press can be highlighted either by one or two lines, or by a series of characteristic cubes, also not too protruding. Remember that it is thinness and slimness that is a characteristic feature of this style. Tall and skinny anime have model looks. For residents of Japan and eastern countries Such an appearance, like large wide eyes, is not only very rare, but also a sign of beauty.

Guys have broad shoulders and long, straight, thin legs. Sports figure.

Often, when they draw girls in full, their legs are made slightly crooked, sloping inward and small. That makes them seem a little awkward, but that makes them a little touching. It is too characteristic anime, which is advisable to follow. narrow shoulders, wide hips, breast.

However, it is worth saying that girls’ legs are sometimes drawn long and straight. Both in the case of a guy and in the case of a girl, all the proportions are the same as when drawing an ordinary person, only slightly exaggerated. In the latter case, when you are drawing a slender girl, you should draw the legs longer than the guy’s and the torso shorter. It will be a little grotesque, but very typical for anime. These anime girls have long and thin necks. Of course, one cannot exaggerate here so as not to draw a giraffe, but still the head should be set on the thin and elongated neck. Also, don’t forget about fit, athletic shape.

PART ONE

I'll start this lesson with the most popular question I get: "how to draw female breast"(heh, I never thought that I would write a lesson about this... ^_^). The most important thing here is to try to draw the breasts as naturally as possible, because you can also draw a pretty girl without silicone implants, as one of my friends does. ^_^

The main problems that people have when drawing breasts are their shape and position. Many artists (both professionals and beginners) draw them as balls that rest against the girl's chin; These breasts are far from natural. If you look in anatomy books, you will see that they look more like halves of a sphere or inverted cups, but not at all like balls.

Next, pay attention to the pose. Imagine a line that runs down the center of the body. The breasts should be at a 45-degree angle from this line, and half below the ribcage (these are the red diagonal lines in the photo). Make sure that the breasts are not too close or too far apart, or too high from the chest; this is the most common mistakes. As you'll see in the rest of the drawings in this tutorial, the 45 degree rule applies to almost all poses.

Here's another pose where the torso is visible from the front. Notice how the breasts are still positioned at a 45-degree angle to the centerline of the body. Oh, also pay attention to the shadows. After looking at some examples, I noticed that shading the breasts in this manner gives them a more natural appearance than if you shaded them as spherical shapes.

Here's one last pose to demonstrate the size and position of the breasts. It's not as clear here, but even here the chest is at a 45 degree angle from the center line (which I didn't draw in this example, sorry ^_^). Note that the left breast is shaped like a hemisphere rather than a full sphere. If you want to increase your breast size, that's up to you, but I don't think it's necessary.

Now let's move on to the neck and shoulders. When you draw the shoulders, pay attention to the fact that they fall smoothly, they are not flat. Try not to forget about the structure of the neck and shoulder muscles, especially if you are going to create a realistic image. They should be shaped like hangers rather than flat surfaces.

Here are some more examples of drawing shoulders in different poses. Note that they are never flat or shapeless.

Something else I wanted to talk about in this topic is how to draw a torso with your arms raised ^_^. Personally, this sometimes turns out to be a difficult task for me, so I decided to touch on this aspect. If you raise your arms up, the back of your body becomes wider. Although a woman's torso is not as massive as a man's, it still expands. Don't make your upper body too narrow. Also note how top part the right chest bends inward (towards the chest); don't forget that it's not a complete sphere, so it attaches to the shoulder muscles.

When you try to draw without knowing the basics, everything seems very difficult and even unrealistic. Many people even chalk it up to talent. But the secret of success lies in a step-by-step approach to completing the drawing. Let's take a closer look at how to draw an anime-style male body.

Sketch

The sketch should start with vertical line, its length should not be less height character and pass through its center. The line will help to save And you need to keep in mind that the “weight” of the character is equally distributed on both sides of this line.

Then determine the proportions of the body: the length of the legs and arms, the size of the torso and head. What should be the proportions? Only experience can answer this question. Especially when you have to draw fantastic creature, non-existent in real world.

If a character will be drawn multiple times or from different angles, its proportions must be maintained. To do this, use straight lines from one figure to another (in Fig. horizontal lines) to change the aspect ratio.

After this, you have to turn all these lines and proportions into an articulated man (dummy) with the addition of such details as ears, hands, elbows. In other words, the proportions are detailed. If the lengths of the arms were previously determined, now it is determined where the arms will be at the shoulders, elbows, hands and fingers.

Of course, here everything is done in stages. As a rule, artists begin to form an articulated man from the head due to the well-known laws of drawing. Continue with the torso, arms and legs. At this stage, nothing should be drawn in detail. Focus only on proportions.

Just like in the real world, in anime you can observe certain human proportions. For example, the width of the body of an average adult person is approximately equal to twice the width of the head, and the height of the body is seven times the height of the head.

Cleaning up the sketch

After creating the articulated man, it should be "cleaned up". What does it mean? This stage consists of two steps:

  1. Removal auxiliary lines(You should not completely remove them, leaving them at the edges of the character).
  2. Defining and tracing the contours of the character.

It should be noted that the second step can be difficult for inexperienced artists. Therefore, it makes sense to postpone it until the next stages.

Drawing details

Now the fun begins. Detailed study each part of the character and filling the articulated man with flesh. Where to start is up to each artist to decide for himself. Most often they start with the head, hairstyle and face. At this stage, things like muscles, scars, etc. are drawn out.

While this step is the most interesting in the lesson “How to Draw a Male Body,” it is also very complex. And it consists of many separate stages. There are lessons for every part of the body. For example, “How to draw a face”, “How to draw legs”, etc.

Dressing up the character

As we have already found out, drawing a male body step by step is very simple. And clothes are drawn step by step in exactly the same way. There are many tutorials on how to do this. Let's limit ourselves to shorts for now, so as not to complicate things.

In principle, the character looks quite clear. But something is missing... Isn't it?

Coloring and shading

On last stage the character and his clothes are colorized. And also giving the character volume by applying shadows. Typically, anime uses the cel-shading style of shadows. In short, it is drawing approximate shadows or not completely realistic ones.

In fact, one more thing should be mentioned important step when creating a character. This is the final edit. Removing remaining extra lines, improving details and fixing bugs.

Thus, we have gone through the main steps of how to draw a male body in Obviously, each step has not been covered in great detail. It is impossible to fit such a volume of information into one article. The main lesson to learn: in drawing, everything is done in stages. And, of course, it takes a lot of practice.

All beginners (what can I say: not only them) have problems with anatomy. This is normal, you shouldn’t be afraid, but you need to try and train to make them correct. In this lesson I will tell you the rules for drawing character bodies, proportions, etc.

P.S. In this lesson we will look at the standard proportions of an anime character, close to human ones. Those. we will not use the correct proportions of Mickey Mouse, Winx, or any other character whose proportions are changed due to a style different from ours.

Let me make a reservation right away: you can’t draw a character with crooked anatomy and say “that’s my style.” Despite the fact that in different styles the body is drawn completely differently, it is nevertheless depicted correct proportions of this style. This is important to understand and differentiate. The proportions should look good relative to each other and not disturb the harmony of the character, not look strange and ridiculous.

Men's hands have rougher outlines and are more “bony”, so we can assume that in this picture there is a guy, and on the left there is a girl

An example of pointed fingers

We will end with these main points.
Last advice: anime character anatomy = the anatomy of a normal person (not counting the face, sometimes the entire head). So if something is not clear, take a book on anatomy and go ahead with a song: D
You can also look at living people, make sketches and the like.
