Norwegian folk band. Musical groups in Norway

Music groups in Norway

Kaizers Orchestra- a very famous rock band in Norway, which arose in 2000 in a place called Brunet. Group leaders, vocalist Janove Ottesen and guitarist Geir Zahl They knew each other since childhood and started playing together in 1991 in the group Blod, Snått & Juling. The Kaisers primarily distinguished themselves by being the first Norwegian group to sing in their native Norwegian and become widely known in continental Europe. For the Norwegians themselves, the Kaisers are outstanding because of their unique music and the Brunet dialect, in which vocalist Ottesen sings. They play by own definition, "Oompa" (Norwegian ompa) and "Kaiserrok". In general, this Norwegian group belongs to the category of those whose work is difficult to “fit” into any specific musical style.

- a unique phenomenon on the Norwegian music scene. This group, founded in the early 70s, was one of the first to combine rock and elements folk music. The complexity of the arrangements and filigree performance technique allow us to characterize Folque's music as "progressive folk rock". In addition, it contains elements of other styles and trends - blues, country, rock and roll and others.

Morten Bing is considered the founder of the group. In the early 70s, he was one of those who, with a guitar in hand, performed vises (songs) of his own composition in clubs in the Norwegian capital Oslo. Sometimes his friend Eilif Amundsen joined him. In 1972, friends received an invitation to take part in a collection of songs calling against... Norway's entry into the European Union!
The release of the record contributed to the organization of Morten's summer tour of the coastal cities of southern Norway. During the concerts he met a man named Jörn Jensen. At the end of the tour, Morten met Eilif and his brother in Kristiansand, and they persuaded him to go to London. In the British capital, an acquaintance took place with two other characters - Lars Hellesen and Espen Lövstad.

The Norwegian underground and cynically mocking band was organized by the four main members of the Duplex Records label in the late 90s. As you can guess, its name is a pun on the name of the forefathers of “heavy” metal BLACK SABBATH, in which the great and terrible Ozzy once sang Osbourne: However, BLACK DEBBATH was born paying tribute to the cult English - in their music you will find both the groove of the pristine "Sabbath" rock and its dark energy. But unlike most of the followers of "Sabbatini", who developed the darkest and most depressive a type of "heavy" music - doom metal - BLACK DEBBATH from the very beginning followed the path of irony and parody. This was especially true in the lyrics of their songs, where topical political and social phenomena were presented under the sauce of wit and inexhaustible humor. Just look at the titles of the songs to feel it.

, founded in 1994 with the support of the Bergen Department of Culture, is today one of the leading Scandinavian groups that has earned international recognition in the field of early music.

The ensemble's musicians have received an excellent education in historical performance, studying with leading European teachers at the best music colleges and academies in Scandinavia and around the world, as well as through international master classes in the performance of early music. They lead both ensemble and solo concert activities, perform in Scandinavia, Russia and the USA, have recordings on Norwegian Radio (NRK), and also collaborate with record companies Simax Classics, BIS, Bbrecords, Toccata Classics.

The Norwegian group under the name is still little known outside of Norway, although in its homeland the group still has a cult status and represents one of the most interesting phenomena music scene. Despite the fact that ten years have passed since the release of the last album, interest in the work of YM :STAMMEN among underground fans is still high.

occupy a special place in the modern Norwegian "heavy" scene. The style of the group can be roughly defined as Technical Progressive Metal (“technical progressive metal”). It is based on the most complicated melody, constant changes of rhythm and the highest technical impeccability of performance.

The history of the group begins in 2000. The band's name, apparently, was inspired by the album of the same name by the American thrash metal classics Forbidden. For several years, musicians have been trying to “squeeze into shape” their extraordinary and diverse ideas and emotions. Moreover, two of them - guitarist Kai Gornicka and vocalist Leif Knashaug - went to school in the band Spiral Architect, also famous for their extraordinary and complex music. Drummer David Husvik, who worked in Extol, and bassist Eric Orland completed the company.

One of the few Norwegian bands who have chosen high-quality and technical thrash metal as their musical path, was founded in January 1987 in Fredrikstad.

The band's first line-up included guitarist and vocalist Grim Stene, drummer Ragnar "Raggen" Westin and bassist Sküle Stene. Previously, the whole trio played in the ensemble Rebellion , which has existed since the early 80s. Name(“Equinox”) was inspired by the song of the same name by the classic German thrash band Sodom.

Musical groups and ensembles - Music of Norway

"Ylvis" is a musical group based in the Norwegian city of Bergen (Norway). Its members are two brothers, comedians Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker, who began performing together in 2000. So, speaking at various concert venues with humorous numbers and songs, they suddenly created a hit that literally took the internet by storm. Many were perplexed as to why the simple song “The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)” attracts all these millions of listeners, but in the meantime Bord and Vegard celebrated real success.

When the video for the song "The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)" collected 45 million views on the popular video service YouTube in two weeks, it was surprising. When the number of views exceeded 120 million, many reputable music magazines wrote about the young Norwegian brothers. Now the number of listeners and viewers of the Ylvis group has confidently exceeded 265 million, and this figure is clearly not final.

In their homeland in Norway, “Ylvis” are incredibly popular - having started performing in 2000, the brothers confidently made their way into the most popular television shows. From their early lives it is known that Bord and Vegard were born in Bergen, and as children they lived in Angola and Mozambique, where their father, an engineer, was sent to work. Returning to Bergen, the brothers began to study music. Both grew up incredibly artistic, from childhood they actively performed on the school stage, and later performed more than once on various stages of variety shows and in various clubs.

Many tried to explain the phenomenal success of the simple song "The Fox", which became an absolute worldwide hit. The lyrics of this song are simple to the point of absurdity - having listed the “moo-moo”, “woof-woof” and “quack-quack” different animals make, the musicians of “Ylvis” complained that foxes, alas, do not make any sounds.

Later, one of the brothers, Vegard, said that they simply had the idea to write some “completely idiotic” song on a “phenomenally stupid topic” - and this is how this song was born, about the sounds that a fox makes.

The brothers did not at all expect the success that immediately fell upon them - at first it even seemed to them that it was all some kind of gigantic joke. But the numbers spoke for themselves - we went to listen to their comic song about foxes

Billions and millions of users from all over the world.

Later, the same Vegard admitted that he was no longer surprised by anything and was beginning to get used to the fact that such crazy things could actually happen. He also suggested that the next world hit would be “a song about a frog recorded in Germany.”

Meanwhile, the song “The Fox” entered the American Billboard Hot 100 chart, although before that in the United States they did not know at all about the existence of the Norwegian group “Ylvis”.

To date, “Ylvis” does not yet have a full-length album, there are only a few recorded singles – “Stonehenge”, “Someone Like Me”, “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)” and a few others.

According to forecasts, the video for "The Fox" in a year has an excellent chance of becoming the second most viewed video after the famous "Gangnam Style".

The music of Norway is rightfully born in one of the most beautiful corners of our planet. The majesty and all the power of the northern sea, the loneliness of the fjords, the cheerful beauty of high mountain meadows, the playfulness of small waterfalls - all this is reflected in national character, and through him - in Norwegian music.

Who among us hasn’t at least occasionally sung the cherished lines - “take on meee, take me ooooon I”ll be goooooone...." And meanwhile, when I first heard this composition and had no idea that the guys famously pulled out the notes , originally from beautiful Norway)))

Norwegian musical group working in the style of electro-pop.

Future band members Paul Voctor and Magne Furuholmen began playing in their youth, when they were ten and twelve years old, respectively. They played in various bands until in 1976 they decided to form a group, calling it “Bridges”. When they first met the future leader-vocalist of “a-ha” Morten Harket, he was just one of the visitors to the Bridges concerts. He liked the music and met Viggo and then the rest of the members.

In September 1982, Paul and Magne again invited Morten to join them as vocalist, and he agreed. At Paul's parents' house, the young people recorded several demos. A new, short, easy and memorable name for the group was also invented - “a-ha”.

a-ha's debut album “Hunting High and Low” (1985) firmly occupied the Top 10 and received the “Spellemannsprisen” award (Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy). That same year, a-ha embarked on their first world tour. Hunting High and Low became one of the best-selling albums of 1986.

In October 1986, the musicians presented their second album, Scoundrel Days, to the public, which was received very warmly.

In 1987, Paul Vactor was asked to compose the theme for the next James Bond film. This is how “The Living Daylights” was born, a remix of which was included in the group’s third album, “Stay on These Roads”, which was released in May (1988). The group went on a world tour of 74 cities. The album sold 4 million copies.

In 1990, the band's fourth album, “East of the Sun, West of the Moon“, which many fans consider a-ha’s best work, although in the wake of new trends (house, madchester, etc.) it seemed somewhat “unfashionable”.

In 1991, the group published a collection of hits “Headlines and Deadlines”, and also toured extensively, including visiting Brazil and performing at the Rock In Rio festival (based on the materials of the tour, a video collection “Live In South America” was released).

In 1993, the team released their fifth album, “Memorial Beach,” the only known song from which was “Move To Memphis.” The disc was not a commercial success - some considered it too dark, others - too avant-garde, and still others - downright weak. The release of the single “Shapes That Go Together” (1994) marked an end to a certain stage in the group’s creativity.

In 1998, a-ha got back together. They are invited to take part in a concert honoring Nobel laureates, which began to be held in 1994. The result of all this was their new album “Minor Earth Major Sky”, released in 2000. In 2002, the new album “Lifelines” was released and immediately went platinum in Norway.

A live album from their 2002 tour, entitled How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head, was released in March 2003.

In 2004, a-ha celebrates the group’s twentieth anniversary and releases a new collection of all hits, “The Definitive Singles Collection 1984–2004.” This compilation returns them to the top 20 UK albums. The album takes thirteenth place and receives gold status.

In 2006, a-ha recorded a cover version of John Lennon's song "#9 Dream" for Amnesty International. It was included in the album "Make Some Noise", which was released in June 2007.

On April 24, 2009, a-ha pleasantly surprised their fans by releasing a new single, “Foot of the Mountain,” which premiered on Norwegian radio on the same day.

On June 12, 2009, the band's ninth studio album, Foot of the Mountain, was released. The album's material marked a return to the popular synth-pop style of the band, similar to the band's earlier work.

On October 15, 2009, the planned disbandment of the group was officially announced following the end of the “Ending on a high note” tour on December 1-3, 2010.

On June 14, 2010, the group presented the farewell single “Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah)”, which was included in the album 25 (compilation of the best songs). Release 25 took place on July 19. The song "Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah)" was written by Paul Wactor-Savoy and produced by Martin Terefe.

In December 2014, the band's official website www.a-ha.com announced that in September 2015, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the release of the band's first album, Hunting High And Low (1985), the band would reunite for a while and perform at festival "Rock in Rio". In addition, the series of deluxe editions of the group’s albums, including rare tracks and videos, will continue.

In March 2015, the group was announced to be reuniting for two years.

In April 2016, in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Blich.ch, Morten Harket stated that after a concert in Bergen on May 7, 2016, the band would break up completely, thereby making Cast in Steel the final a-ha album. However, in December 2016, the group announced that in 2018 they were going to go on an acoustic tour, record an album with a corresponding sound and make a concert video, the release of which is scheduled for November 2017.

Rap duo from Norway.

The duo Madcon from Norway loudly announced themselves in the summer of 2007 with the hit “Beggin’,” a re-cover of a 40-year-old hit by The Four Seasons. Capricorn and Critical began playing together in the early 2000s, when they both became members of the fairly famous Norwegian rap group The Paperboys. In 2002, The Paperboys recorded the song "Barcelona" with Madcon, which conquered the Norwegian charts and brought the group the Splellemannprisen award - the Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy - for the best hit of the year. This success inspired Madcon, and they recorded their own solo record, It's All a Madcon. The single "Doo-Woop" was moderately popular in Norway.

Their cover of the single The group Four Seasons "Beggin'" appeared in the summer of 2007 and immediately shot to the top of the charts not only in Norway, but also in France. As a result, the song gained popularity almost throughout Europe, and the album “So Dark the Con of Man" sold out quite well. Madcon also won an award for "Beggin'". Best hit of the year".

In 2008, the duo also began work on a new album, and it was announced that it would most likely be called "InCONvenient Truth".

Secret Garden

As a lover of bowed instruments and beautiful vocals, I confidently declare that this group is worthy of its victory at Eurovision.

Irish-Norwegian duo performing Celtic and neoclassical music.

Secret Garden won the Eurovision Song Contest representing Norway in 1995 with the song "Nocturne". At the competition, the song was sung by the Norwegian singer Gunnhild Tvinnereim, but she is not part of the group. In addition, Rolf participated in writing the song “La det swinge” (Let it swing), which ensured the victory of the Norwegian duo “Bobbysocks” at this competition in 1985.

The Eurovision victory ensured the success of their first album, Songs from a Secret Garden. It has sold approximately a million copies worldwide. The album went platinum in Norway and Korea, gold in Ireland, Hong Kong and New Zealand, and spent two years (1996-1997) on the New Age Billboard charts.

Barbra Streisand adapted the song "Heartstrings" from this album and included it under the title "I've Dreamed Of You" on her album "A Love Like Ours". She also used "Heartstrings" at her wedding to James Brolin.

In 1997, the album “White Stones” was released, which also hit the top ten of the New Age Billboard. "Dawn of a New Century" in 1999, "Dreamcatcher" in 2001 and "Once In a Red Moon" were also successful worldwide and reached the top of the Billboard charts.

Secret Garden released Dreamcatcher: Best Of for their 2004 Australia and New Zealand tour. It reached the top of the charts in Australia and entered the top 50 albums on the ARIA chart. In total, more than 3 million copies of the group's various albums were sold.

Bobbysocks

The fiery girls from Norway also did not leave the European jury indifferent music competition and I understand them))))

Norwegian duo who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1985.

It was formed in 1983 by the Norwegian Hanne Krogh and the Swede with Norwegian roots Elisabeth Andreassen.

In 1985, the duo won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Let it Swing,” which then took first place in the Norwegian hit parade. That same year he was awarded the Peer Gynt Prize by the Storting. In 1986, the band's single "Waiting For The Morning" topped the Norwegian charts for 13 weeks, and the album of the same name was at the top for 9 weeks. The group ceased to exist in 1988, but its members periodically perform together.

In addition to performing together, each of the singers has repeatedly participated in Eurovision. Thus, Hanne performed at the 1971 competition as a solo performer (took 17th place) and in 1991 as part of the Just4Fun group, which also took 17th place. In turn, Elizabeth in 1982 as part of Swedish group“Chips” took 9th place, and in 1994, performing in a duet with Jan Virner Danielsson and representing Norway, she was 6th, and two years later she rose to the second step of the competition podium, performing solo. In total, Elisabeth took part in the Eurovision selection 14 times (7 times from Sweden and 7 times from Norway), and this record has not yet been broken.

The Blizzard

I love and respect trance. Eh....where are my 17 years and all these open-air parties;)

Trans project from Norway.

Lars and Tore met through a mutual friend in 2002. Both loved trance music, so they quickly found a common language. Lars liked Tore's music, and in November 2006 they decided to team up and found The Blizzard. The first track "Kalopsia" was completed 3 months later. They gave it to a friend to listen to, who, in turn, gave the recording to an acquaintance who knew Armin van Buuren personally. Thus, the track got into rotation.

In 2007, The Blizzard released their first track, "Kalopsia". It was characterized by a new, unusual sound, unlike most trance tracks. The single, released in September, included the original version of the track (Original Club Mix and Original Intro Mix), as well as remixes from Mark Otten and Monogato.

The release of the single “In And Out Of Love” caused a scandal due to the fact that the remix from The Blizzard was spoiled by the sound engineers of the Armada Music label: there was clipping at high frequencies (in other words, the remix was “overloaded”). The Blizzard negotiated with Armada Music regarding the release of a revised version or compensation for those who bought the single, but to no avail; as a result, a limited number of fans received an original copy of the file directly from the band.

In December 2008, The Blizzard announced the imminent premiere of their second single, entitled "Iselilja", which will be recorded in collaboration with the Norwegian group.

Since 2009, the Norwegian Internet radio radiovolum.no began broadcasting a monthly radio show, SubZero, from Lars from The Blizzard and his good friend Robinson; The radio show ran until April 2010 and was later replaced by a podcast from The Blizzard called Point Zero, which continues to this day.

2010 brought, at the instigation of Armada Music, collaboration with the Ukrainian producer Omnia, who last year marked the work of “Stick In Monday” and a remix of Armin van Buuren, which fairly closely copied the sound of The Blizzard.

In 2011, The Blizzard and Omnia teamed up again to produce the track "My Inner Island", which was scheduled for release at the end of August.

ABOUT high quality The work of The Blizzard can be evidenced by the fact that in “A State Of Trance” almost all of their tracks were chosen by listeners as “future favorite”; and the world-famous compilation of the same name has not been without their work for the fifth year in a row.

120 Days

Norwegian musical group.

Formed in 2001. Originally called The Beautiful People and based in Kristiansund, the members later moved to Oslo.

After releasing two EPs on the Public Demand label, the band signed a contract with the famous Norwegian indie label Smalltown Supersound. On October 10, 2006, the debut album of the same name 120 Days was released, receiving several positive feedback in the North American press. The group toured the United States shortly after the release of the disc. Returning to Oslo in 2008, the musicians began working on material for the next album. In March 2012, the group released their second album entitled 120 Days II, produced by Hans-Peter Lindström.

That same year, 120 Days folded after playing its final show at Rockefeller Music Hall on September 8th.

Theater Of Tragedy

Norwegian rock band.

In 1993, the guys Raymond, Tommy and Pål decided to start a group, calling it Suffering Grief. Soon they were joined by another, the youngest, member - keyboardist Lorentz. Hein, who had recently left Phobia, responded to the band's advertisement for a drummer. The guys needed a bass player, and after a couple of months Eirik joined them. At first, the group had problems finding places to rehearse. There was no female voice in the group at that time - only Raymond's growling. The band performed heavy brutal death doom. Raymond knew Early Modern English and began writing songs in it; this was an original and interesting find.

The first song was called "Lament of The Perishing Roses". Initially it was intended for a male voice, but Raymond had an interesting idea to also use the vocals of his girlfriend Liv Kristin. She sang, all the participants liked it, and Liv was accepted into the team. Since then the group has had two vocalists. After recording the first song, the group decided to change their name (Suffering Grief seemed banal to them). For a couple of weeks it was called Le reine noir, and then they finally came up with a new name: Theater of Tragedy.

In 1994, the band released their first demo recording, consisting of four songs, which the German label Massacre Records was seriously interested in. An agreement was signed, and the musicians went to the Unisound studio to record their first album - Theater of Tragedy.

After performing at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival in Leipzig, Theater of Tragedy are recording their second album - Velvet Darkness They Fear(1996). A string quartet led by Nedelcho Boyadzhiev took part in the recording.

A mini-album was released in 1997 A Rose for a Dead, which collected tracks that were not included in Velvet Darkness They Fear, remixes by Bruno Cramm of Das Ich, an English version of the immortal hit "Der tanz der schatten" called "As the Shadows Dance", and a cover of the song "Decades" Joy group Division is the only composition in the repertoire of the “Theater of Tragedy” that does not contain female vocals.

In 1998, a new album was released - Aégis. The line-up change had a significant impact on the sound, which became more electronic and less dramatic.

In 1999, relations with Massacre Records worsened, “Teatr” repaid them its last debts - created the single “Interspective” and a live album Closure:live(released later, in 2001).

The year 2000 is coming. First album with new label Music, saw the light. The group abruptly changed its style from gothic metal to industrial: Raymond's vocals were distorted by special effects, lyrics about cars, radio and electricity appeared, and the track “Space Age” was completely dedicated to Soviet cosmonauts.

Fifth album - Assembly(2002) - stylistically continued the theme of the previous edition. This album was produced by famous Finnish producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Apocalyptica, Sentenced, The 69 Eyes and Moonspell). Then the band did not want to return to gothic metal at all.

On March 4, 2006, the new album of “Theater” was released, Storm, less saturated with electronics than the previous two, more fitting within the framework of traditional gothic metal. Storm contains mostly calm compositions, with a lot of attention paid to keyboards.

In September 2009, the seventh full-length album was released Forever is the World.

On March 1, 2010, the musicians announced that Theater of Tragedy would cease to exist on October 2, 2010, marking exactly 17 years of the group's history. The last European tour took place in March 2010. The band played their last concert on October 2 in their native Stavanger, the recording of which was released on DVD in 2011.

However, the breakup of the group gives Liv and Raymond a chance to meet again on stage: five years later, in December 2015, Liv invites Raymond to accompany her on a winter tour in Russia and Europe.

Rammsund

The covers of the wonderful German band are performed well. Really,Rammstein in Norwegian!

Norwegian rock band.

I think almost all of us are familiar with the work of the world famous German Rammstein bands, whose cheerful marches and sad ballads do not leave fans of “heavy” music indifferent. So in Norway there were their fans, who, however, did not limit themselves to listening to music, going to concerts and simply “re-singing” industrial-gothic anthems. Meet - Rammsund, a band performing Rammstein songs in their native Norwegian!

It was 1998, and Rammstein songs (such as “Du hast” and “Engel”) were heard everywhere. True, for the first few years the project was in an embryonic state, and its activity was limited mainly to table conversations about how cool it would be to cover Rammstein in Norwegian, and discussions of plans. But the line-up is gradually being formed - Nurby, who decided to become a frontman, and guitarist Nikko (according to his passport - Nikolai Lövstad) are joined by drummer Björn Solfjell and bassist Kevin Alvaru. In order to “dilute” the harsh male company, the musicians recruit keyboardist Christine Eng. The first Rammsund mini-concert took place in 2003. Unfortunately, Christine did not have the necessary programming skills, and then she completely moved to Denmark. She was eventually replaced by Ali Reza Ahmadi a year later.

Rammsund's first "official" performance took place on November 15, 2004 - ironically, exactly one day before the Rammstein concert in Oslo. The audience was delighted, because the Norwegians rocked on stage no worse than their German inspirers.

Be that as it may, the songs Hjartet mitt brenn, Mutter"n, Du har, Du duftar godt, Eg vil quickly became popular. Of course, a copyright problem arose, which was resolved as follows: Rammsund can only perform Rammstein songs "live" at concerts and do not have the right to officially release them. That is why Rammsund's "discography" is limited to only one unofficial three-song single, released in 2005 and distributed only at concerts. However, Rammsund songs (in particular, filming from a 2010 concert in Oslo ) are available on the Internet.

It is curious that at one of the Rammsund concerts (at the Bergen club Garage in June 2010), Till Lindemann himself appeared in the audience, who the next day was supposed to perform with his band in the same city. His reaction to what was happening was clearly positive - after the concert he invited Geir Ove and company to his table to drink beer and chat. At the same time, the maestro joked that he himself would not mind becoming a member of Rammsund. In general, it is worth noting that Rammsund concerts often take place in a rather relaxed, almost intimate atmosphere - the musicians communicate on equal terms with the audience, chat and clink beer with satisfied spectators.

Rammsund try to translate songs as competently as possible and as close to the original as possible, without taking any special liberties.

In 2011, Rammsund temporarily ceased operations, but two years later, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the group, they gathered again - and are still actively touring throughout Norway.

Royksopp

Norwegian duet.

The group was officially formed in 1998, and their debut album “Melody A.M.” was released in 2001.

Despite the fact that Brundtland and Berge had been friends since school in their native Tromsø and even experimented with electronics in the early nineties, Röyksopp was created only a few years later, when fate brought them together again in Bergen.

Röyksopp's first singles were released by the local independent label Tellé, and the album Melody A.M. was released by the British label Wall of Sound. This is how the singles Eple, Poor Leno, Remind Me and Sparks were released.

In 2001, Röyksopp went on tour with Basement Jaxx and Moby. With the appearance of several experimental graphic videos, the album's popularity increased. In 2002, Röyksopp received the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Video with their infographic video Remind Me.

Apple has acquired a license to use the Eple track as the welcome music for the Mac OS X Panther operating system. In other words, Eple, translated from Norwegian as apple, sounded from the speakers when the user turned on his new Macintosh for the first time.

Röyksopp's very first single, So Easy, became popular in the UK after T-Mobile used it in a commercial.

Röyksopp's second album, "The Understanding", was released on July 12, 2005. The release of the album was preceded by the release of the single Only This Moment (June 27).

In 2005, Röyksopp played a long set at the Glastonbury Festival, with at least half an hour of the set leading up to Fatboy Slim being included in the BBC Three broadcast.

In June 2010, the track “None of Dem” was released, recorded together with Robin Miriam

At the age of 12 she began taking vocal lessons. Sunnfør officially joined the group Hypertext in 2010. At the age of 23, she decided to pursue music professionally.

Norwegian heavy bands

Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band formed in 1993. One of the few black metal bands that have achieved serious commercial success and popularity outside of fans of black metal itself (see also Satyricon).

The name of the group comes from Isl. dimmuborgir, which translates as “dark fortress”. This is the name of a landmark in Iceland - a lava formation that, according to legend, is the gateway to the underworld. In addition, in the 3rd book of J. R. R. Tolkien's trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" - "The Return of the King" in the 2nd chapter, immediately after the farewell scene of Aragorn and Éowyn, Dimmorborg - the Mountain of Spirits in Rohan - is mentioned.
When the band first started in 1993, it consisted of Shagrath, Silenoz and Tjodalv. In 1994, the group already released their first mini-album entitled "Inn I evighetens morke", which translated means "into the darkness of appearance". This album sold out within a few weeks and in the same year, 1994, the group released a full-length album "For all Tid", which was recorded with two new members - Brynyard Tristan (bass guitar) and Stian Orstad (keyboards). The band's original line-up included Shagrath on drums, guitarist Jodalf and Silenoz on backing vocals. But the line-up changed before Stormblast was released in 1996. Stromblast received high praise from black metal fans. This is one of the most important events of the group. Moreover, it was last album, which includes all songs written and performed in Norwegian.

Theater of Tragedy (translated from English - “Theater of Tragedy”) - a Norwegian rock band, in different periods playing in various genres, from doom/death and gothic metal to industrial and techno.
In 1993, the guys Raymond, Tommy and Pål decided to start a group, calling it "Suffering Grief". Soon they were joined by another, youngest member, keyboardist Lorentz. Hein, who had recently left the Phobia (later Enslaved) team, responded to the band’s advertisement for a drummer. The guys needed a bass player, and a couple of months later Eirik (ex-Painthead) joined them. At first, the group had problems finding places to rehearse. There was no female voice in the group at that time - only Raymond's growling. The band performed heavy brutal Death-Doom.

After recording the first song, the group decided to change their name (“Suffering Grief” seemed banal to them). For a couple of weeks it was called "Le reine noir", and then they finally came up with a new name: "Theater of Tragedy".

In 1994, the band released their first demo, consisting of four songs, which attracted serious interest from the German label Massacre Records. An agreement was signed, and the musicians went to the Unisound studio to record their first album, Theater of Tragedy. It was produced by Dan Swanyo (Nightingale, Edge of Sanity). The group quickly became famous. The combination of two contrasting vocals, a dark melancholic atmosphere, lyrics in the “language of Shakespeare” about love and faith, resentment and hatred - all this attracted listeners. The press spoke favorably of the new group, calling them “Shakespeare’s children.”

The band undergoes its first lineup change: guitarist Pål'a Bjåstad'a was replaced by Geir Flikkeid.

After performing at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival in Leipzig, Theater of Tragedy recorded their second album, Velvet Darkness They Fear (1996). A string quartet led by Nedelcho Boyadzhiev took part in the recording. This time, a more experienced producer Pete Coleman (“Paradise Lost”, “Amorphis”) worked with the group in the German studio “Commusication”. The second album of the Norwegians had greater success, they have sold over 90,000 copies of each of their two albums in Europe. Liv Kristin later admitted in an interview that this album is, in her opinion, the best album of the group.

As the recording of this album was finishing, the band suffered a new loss: guitarist Tommy Lindahl suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. On the subsequent tour with Gorefest, Samael, Moonspell and Rotting Christ, he was temporarily replaced by guitarist Matze from Atrocity.

Meanwhile, the “theater of tragedy” begins in the personal relationship of Liv and Raymond: Liv has new guy, and she tells Raymond that they must break up. But Raymond then did not dare to fire Liv, because she is the face of the group, and “Theater of Tragedy” was associated with her. The offended Raymond calmed down for a while, and Liv, meanwhile, moved into an apartment with her boyfriend, her future husband, Alex Krull, a famous producer (“Crematory”, “Heavenwood”, “Elis”, “Darkwell”, etc.), as well as the leader of “ Atrocity".

Liv is invited to collaborate to record albums (in different years) with “Heavenwood”, “Silke Bischoff”, “Immortal Rites”, “Das Ich”, “Cradle of Filth”, etc., and together with “Atrocity” she recorded “Werk 80”. In 1998, Liv also released a solo album, Deus ex machina. In one of the compositions, “3 a.m.”, Nick Holmes from “Paradise Lost” sang a duet with her. At the same time, Liv still devoted most of her time to the Theater. In 1997, the mini-album “A Rose for a Dead” was released, which collected tracks not included in “Velvet Darkness They Fear”, remixes made by Bruno Cramm from “Das Ich”, an English version of the immortal hit “Der tanz der” schatten", called "As the Shadows Dance", and a cover of the song "Decades" by the group "Joy Division" - the only composition in the repertoire of the "Tragedy Theater" in which there is no female vocal. After the release, both guitarists left the Theater of Tragedy, their place was taken by Frank Claussen and Tommy Olsson.

In 1998, a new album was released - “Aégis”. The line-up change had a significant impact on the sound, which became more electronic and less dramatic. Raymond decided not to strain his ligaments anymore and began to sing in a normal voice. The principle of song construction has changed: the form of dialogue has disappeared, clearly defined choruses and verses have appeared in all songs. “Aégis” has a special concept, each song is about famous mythical women. Liv and Raymond appear on the covers of famous German magazines (Metal Merchant, Metal Hammer, Sonic Seducer).

In 1999, relations with Massacre Records worsened; Theater repaid their last debts to them - creating the single “Interspective” and the live album “Closure:live” (released later, in 2001). The group signed an agreement with the major label East West in Germany and with Nuclear Blast, which was responsible for releasing albums in all other countries. Around the same time, bassist Eric Saltre and guitarist Tommy Olzon said goodbye to them.

The year 2000 is coming. The first album with the new label, "Musique", was finally released. The group abruptly changed its style from gothic metal to industrial: Raymond's vocals were distorted by special effects, lyrics about cars, radio and electricity appeared, and the track “Space Age” was dedicated to Soviet cosmonauts. Liv Kristin again began solo work and released the single “One Love,” a ballad that became the title theme of one of the episodes of the popular German crime series “Schimanski.”

The fifth album - “Assembly” (2002) - continued the theme of the previous edition in style. This album was produced by the famous Finnish producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Apocalyptica, Sentenced, The 69 Eyes and Moonspell). Then the band didn’t want to return to gothic metal at all.

Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band. Satyricon has two permanent members: Satyr (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards) and Frost (drums), who are joined from time to time by session and live musicians. Satyricon emerged in the early 90s and with their first albums joined the cohort of bands that created the Norwegian black metal scene and which are often characterized as the “second wave of black metal”. Starting with the fourth album, Rebel Extravaganza, the group's music became more oriented towards a mass audience, and subsequent releases consistently entered the mainstream music charts. Now Satyricon, together with compatriots Dimmu Borgir, are one of the most commercially successful groups in their genre.

Satyricon became one of the first black metal bands to receive a contract with a major label publishing popular music. In 2002, the band signed a contract with Capitol Records to release their new album Volcano in Scandinavia (Nuclear Blast was the main distributor). The famous Swedish video director Jonas Åkerlund shot a video clip for the main hit “Fuel for Hatred” for rotation on television. Volcano debuted at number four on the Norwegian chart and sold 20,000 copies in Norway alone. Later the album received a major national music award Spellemannsprisen in the category “Best Metal Album of the Year”, the German Alarm Award in the same category and The Oslo Award for best album of the year. "Fuel for Hatred" was named song of the year at the Alarm Award. Two years later, Volcano was officially released in the United States by Sony Music's subsidiary EatUrMusic.

In 2004, a joint American tour was planned with Morbid Angel and Suffocation. Before the tour, difficulties befell the band: Frost did not receive an entry visa, and concert guitarist Arnt Gronbech cut his face in a fight on the eve of departure. Gronbech ended up playing the tour in stitches, and Frost was replaced by Emperor's Trym Thorson. In the summer, the musicians played at the largest festival Wacken Open Air. This event became significant, as Nocturno Culto appeared on stage together with Satyricon and performed four songs from the Darkthrone repertoire. At the end of the year, another tour took place in the States and Canada. This time Frost was replaced by Slipknot's Joey Jordison. However, due to the fact that two guitarists were arrested on charges of rape, the last concerts were canceled

Enslaved (ɪn’sleɪvd translated from English as “Enslaved”) is a Norwegian metal band that played black metal in the early years, and later evolved towards Viking metal with progressive elements. The group was formed in 1991 by Ivar Björnson and Grutle Kjellson, who were 13 and 17 years old respectively at the time, and were later joined by Trim Thorson. This lineup recorded the first demos of Nema and Yggdrasill and the first studio album Vikingligr Veldi.
The album covers, lyrics and ideology of the group are related to the themes of Scandinavian mythology, Vikings and northern nature. Although Enslaved played black metal at the very beginning of their musical career, unlike other bands, Enslaved members never had anything to do with Satanism or church burnings and did not wear body paint. Since the album Mardraum: Beyond the Within the group gravitated more towards progressive metal and Viking metal and stylistic eclecticism. The lyrics of the early albums are written in Norwegian and Icelandic.
Over the course of their career, the group has released eleven studio albums, two EPs, and two concerts entitled Live Retaliation and Return to Yggdrasill.
To date, the band's latest studio album is the album RIITIIR.

As archaeological research shows, Norwegian music originated in ancient times. This is evidenced by both artifacts and a large number of folk instruments. Norwegian folk songs are performed on many types of bowed and wind instruments. The compositions and songs are dominated by motifs of the ancient era. They feature the Viking gods, their legends and beliefs.

As for classical music, Norwegian music has adopted many Danish traditions. The country was dependent on the neighboring state, which also affected the development of culture. At the end of the eighteenth century, organists Linnemann became famous in the state. Their works are still performed today. The famous composer Edvard Grieg is known throughout the world. Norwegian music in the style of romanticism began its development precisely with the works of this musician.

IN modern history The most famous performer from Norway was the group A-ha. Thanks to the musicians from this group, popular Norwegian music has become popular all over the world. The group appeared during the heyday of the “new wave”, which occurred in the late 70s and early 80s. At that time, Norwegian electro-pop songs were appearing. The bands Blaupunkt, Kjøtt and others are considered prominent performers of that time.

Not only Norwegian songs by pop artists are known throughout the world. Jazz saxophonist Jana Garbarek is very popular. Opera singer Sissel Shirshebo became famous for her performance at Olympic Games, held in Norway in 1994. Concerning modern styles, then the country has developed both electronic and dance styles. Norwegian club music is represented by artists such as Ørjan Nilsen, Skatebård and others.
