How to draw a gift box with a pencil. How to draw a New Year's gift on a graphics tablet

Every novice artist often wonders how to draw the desired object easier and faster. The article tells you how to draw two similar objects step by step: a box of matches and an open cardboard shipping box.

How to draw a box?

A box is a small box for matches, most often small in size, with a mandatory strip on the sides for lighting matches. To draw it, you need to remember your school geometry course. The box is an ordinary parallelogram figure created from two equal parallelepipeds connected by vertical lines.

  • Step 1. To put it simply, all the sides of the box are rectangles, slightly flattened at the corners to give perspective and realism to the image; in geometry they were called parallelepipeds. Therefore, in order to draw a box, you need to draw such a parallelepiped. The box in the figure will be open, so we will divide the figure into two unequal parts. The larger part will be the body of the box, and the smaller part will be its retractable box:
  • Step 2. Then you need to make a three-dimensional rectangle out of a flat one; for this you need to finish drawing the remaining edges. The lower rectangle is located at a short distance from the upper one, and some of its edges are invisible, so they are not displayed in the picture. However, all internal and external edges that are visible to the eye should be clearly visible in the drawing. All lines from the top surface of the box to the bottom must be strictly vertical, and the remaining lines must be parallel to each other.
  • Step 3. We mark matches inside the box. It is desirable that they be the same size, and it is easiest to draw when the matches fit tightly together. Then we draw and color the match heads. We paint the side of the box completely, since there is a rough layer there for lighting matches. And the boxes take on real sizes and shapes. As you can see, drawing boxes is not that difficult.

  • Step 4. Finally, add some shadows, come up with an inscription, and you get a pretty realistic matchbox.

How to draw a box with a pencil. Step-by-step instruction.

The box is a soft storage box various items. Most often it is made of cardboard, fabric or plastic. The box weighs much less compared to a box. However, the main difference between these containers is the ability to roll the box when not needed and reassemble it if necessary, while the box cannot change its shape and takes up a lot of space when empty.

Similarly, you can draw a box of matches and an ordinary cardboard box. Let's look at how to draw a box with a pencil step by step.

  • Step 1. The beginning of the box image is the same as in the case of a box of matches: it is a rectangular figure with the corners slightly modified to show the fullest perspective.

  • Step 2. Next, you need to finish drawing the side sheets of the box that cover it when packing; the dimensions of the sides coincide with the dimensions of the edges, and their height is significantly lower so that the box can be conveniently packed. Let's look at how to draw an open box.

  • Step 3. Let's remember the geometry again. The next step is to remove the extra lines that may not be visible to the eye when looking at the actual box.

  • Step 4. Finally, we add a little shadow using shading to give visual volume and realism to our image.

How to best apply shading to a drawing

  • Strokes should be applied with soft, careful movements.
  • There should be no bends or curls at the end of each stroke.
  • The strokes should be very similar to each other visually in length and thickness.
  • Different pressure on the pencil is not allowed when applying shading on one face.

You can lightly rub the drawing with your fingertip, and then the shading will smooth out, and the box will turn out less angular and visually softer.

Little tricks

  • For drawing it is better to take soft pencil marked M or 2M.
  • It is also better to use an eraser more often than less.
  • It is better to choose an eraser based on softness and quality of pencil removal, and not on appearance.
  • Never use an eraser on the end of pencils. Most often they spoil the paper and the drawing does not look so neat.

Continuing the series of lessons about simple things, which cause a lot of problems for beginning artists, today there will be instructions on how to draw a box step by step. A box is a container in which you can put, whatever you want, you can put. The classic box consists of specially folded durable paper, popularly called cardboard. It is likely that the Japanese invented it, just like the origami technique. But there is a more rigid form of box - this is a box. The difference between them is this:

  • The walls of the box are made of wood or other material stronger than cardboard;
  • The box has the shape of a parallelepiped, but if necessary it can be unfolded and folded flat. You can't do this trick with a box. Even if the box is empty, it will still take up a lot of space;
  • The capacity of the box and the box may be the same, but the weight of the box is much greater. So to transport the box, you will most likely need the help of a friend, or even a special team of movers;

if you love logic games, I recommend trying to play Sokoban - it is a puzzle game in which the player must arrange the boxes correctly. The plot is not very good, but for those who like to excite their brains, it’s just the thing. And for those who like to excite their imagination, I recommend trying to depict:

How to draw a box with a pencil step by step

Step one. Let's draw the shape of a parallelepiped. It is a little higher, this is because you need to include the length of the closing sheets here. Step two. Now let's show real shape, and these same side sheets. They should not be higher than the initial frame size, which we showed in step 1.

Step three. Let's start shading. Inner part darker - the strokes are denser, the outer one is lighter - the strokes are less frequent. Step four. Now we need to remove unnecessary lines. Here you need to understand which lines should be visible and which should be erased. Anyone who took geometry lessons at school should already know, and if not, repeat as I did:
Try to depict other everyday objects, for example, we have such lessons.

In order to draw a gift, it is very important to first draw the cube. It consists of four faces. After drawing it, you can finish drawing a beautiful wrapping package on it or a ribbon with a bow. It always looks impressive and bright, especially if such a drawing is colored with bright colored pencils in New Year's shades or using paints.

Materials for drawing a New Year's gift:

  • a free sheet of paper in an album;
  • pencils for sketching and coloring;
  • eraser for deleting;
  • black marker for outlining.

How to draw a box with a gift step by step

1) We carry out vertical line. From the top and bottom points we lead lateral lines at an angle.

2) Then add two more vertical lines to form the edges of the box in which New Year's gift. We will also draw the last fourth corner, which is located in the background.

3) Draw a circle at the top in which a lush bow will be drawn to decorate the gift. Draw satin ribbon lines along all edges of the box.

4) Draw a chic lush bow in the middle of the circle. We draw two short strips of ribbon from the center of the bow. We create the edges of the box without sharp corners, and we also create smooth lines of the tape on all parts of the picture.

5) We get beautiful drawing gift that needs to be carefully outlined with a black marker and colored in with colored pencils. We are doing the first one right now. You can also add small strokes and highlights on objects.

6) Use a red pencil to paint over the satin ribbons and chic bow that serve to decorate the New Year’s gift.

7) The box in which the gift is placed is created with green shades of pencils.

No holiday is complete without the most important thing - gifts. What can we say about the New Year? This is one of the biggest holidays, when every person is busy looking for gifts for family and friends. Whatever the chosen gift, it must be beautifully packaged. There are packages various types, sizes and colors, but today we will talk about the usual box with beautiful bow. We'll find out how to draw a gift on New Year and to make the composition look more attractive, we’ll decorate it with a sprig of spruce and two balls.

Tools and materials:

  1. A graphics tablet and pen (I used Wacom Intos Draw, but any will do) connected to a computer or laptop.
  2. Program Adobe Photoshop.

You can also use a simple pencil, an eraser and a piece of paper.

Stages of work:

Step 1. IN Adobe program Photoshop create a new surface: File – New. Set the dimensions of the new document in pixels: width - 850 pixels. and height – 595 px. We will get a white surface on which we will draw our illustration. For the brush, set the main diameter to 5 and the color to dark gray:

Step 2. We draw a rectangle from which we will start when constructing the gift. Its width will be slightly greater than its height:

Step 3. Draw a vertical line through the center, which is shifted slightly to the right:

Step 4. Now you can draw the side parts of the gift and its box, but we only draw foreground. We leave the background empty for now, because there will be a big bow that will cover it:

Step 5. Use an eraser to remove the lines that helped in the construction. Now we won't need them:

Step 6. We plan on the gift common lines bow, and a ribbon will hold it on the sides:

Step 7 Let's draw two circles in front - Christmas decorations, which will touch inside. Let’s draw out the circles a little so that we can add them later in this place where they are attached (Christmas decorations):

Step 8 On top of the Christmas tree balls we will draw fastenings, and on the bow we will draw the bends of the ribbon:

Step 9 We will place the branches of the Christmas tree in the background, so now we outline their bases (from which the needles will grow):

Step 10 Reduce the main diameter of the brush from 5 to 3 and draw small needles. They should be slightly curved towards the edge. The strokes must be applied very tightly to make the branch fluffier:

Step 11 We correct the drawing by removing extra lines where they are not needed, and adding in places where they are missing:

Step 13 We make the tone of gray a little darker and apply it on top, but this time the volume of the shadow will be less than the previous one. This change in tone will help make the shadow transition smoother:

Step 14 Again we make the tone darker and apply it to our drawing:

Step 15 The next step in applying the shadow will be from a darker gray tone, and place it all on a smaller surface:

Let's make this a little more difficult. To teach you to really feel and control this empty flat piece of paper, I want to open up for you complex but interesting objects - empty boxes.

1. So, draw a cube.

2. Then draw slightly inclined two parallel lines.

Parallel lines- these are two lines going in the same direction and located at the same distance. When I say the word "parallel" I imagine 2 lines in one word.

Perpendicular lines- two lines that intersect at right angles. For example, on this line you see text that is perpendicular to the edge of this page.

3. ATTENTION! Look how this top edge of the box lid is drawn, in accordance with all slanted lines at a slight slope up to the left. I will refer to this angle as the direction northwest. Imagine a compass.

The four most commonly used directions that I will refer to throughout the lessons are the directions: northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast. Take a look at this compass.

Now I will reverse the compass. Again, perspective distorts and flattens an object, creating the illusion of depth by bringing one edge of the object closer to the viewer.

Notice this drawn tilted compass and four indicated directions– NW, NE, SW and SE – all these lines coincide with the lines of your cube.
I call it "3D compass". This is a wonderful tool for properly sequentially aligning lines. Without properly constructed angles, your drawings will look askew.

4. Draw a lid on the other side of the box using two parallel lines.

5. Using the bottom line of the box in the NE direction, draw the top of the box lid in the same direction (NE).

6. Draw slanting lines to represent the flaps of the box at the front at the bottom.

7. Once again, using the bottom edges of the box as guides, complete the box lids by drawing lines in the NE and NW directions. I'll keep repeating this: use the lines you've drawn as a guide to draw the next ones. Always referencing the already drawn angles corresponding to the 3D compass will help your drawings look solid, focused and most importantly, three dimensional.

8. Draw short peeking lines for the back of the box. Notice how one small line contributes to the overall three-dimensional illusion of the drawing. This little line on back side boxes goes “BAM!” and at this moment our drawing turns from a two-dimensional sketch into a three-dimensional object.

9. Draw a horizon line and determine the position of the light source.

10. To correctly draw the falling shadow, use a 3D compass. Draw a guide line along the bottom of the box in a direction SE. ATTENTION! This is the most common mistake that beginners make - they start to lower the shadow below the guide line. Please note that the shadow should be in line with the guide.

Right

Wrong

11. The shades under the two lids of the box add realism to the image. These are wonderful little pieces that successfully demonstrate volume, refined detail and edges. In this example, these shadings help “pull” the lids toward the eyes, pushing the box deeper into the picture.

12. This is the most effective step in each lesson. Clean up your sketch with an eraser, removing unnecessary lines, and sharpen the edges of the drawing with an outline stroke. This will move the image further away from the background. Complete the cast shadows on the left side of the box and inside the box, away from the light source.

I always encourage you to have fun with the lesson by adding as many extra details, neat little ideas as your creative imagination to bring the drawing to life. I put a few small items in the box so they were barely visible. Notice how even these small details add flavor to the sketch.

LESSON 5: PRACTICAL TASK

Talking about additional details improving your drawing, let's modernize the lesson with cardboard box? How about a treasure chest overflowing with pearls and coins? We are so dissatisfied with today's economy, mortgage payments, loans and taxes... So let's portray our own wealth!

1. Start with a basic cube shape, just tilt the sides a little. Now indicate the guide lines and label them for better memorization.

2. Draw two parallel lines, slightly opening the lid of the treasure chest.
