Elevator is the most popular transport in cities. Most residents of multi-storey buildings use the elevator at least several times every day. At the same time, most people don’t even think about whether the elevator can fall, and what the danger will be? Let's find out.

  • In fact, it is almost impossible for the elevator to simply fall down, since it is supported by several cables at once, so even if one of them breaks, anyway, the others will help hold the cabin. The system also automatically blocks and stops the elevator immediately after at least one of the cables is loosened.
  • The next myth buster is the speed limiter. Once the elevator speed exceeds 15% above normal, the elevator will instantly stop automatically. The last stage of such a system includes a hard stop of the cabin, which will become tightly fixed on the guides. This means that even if all cables are theoretically broken, the cabin, after falling down several meters, will be instantly stopped and held on the guides.
  • There is another myth: the elevator car may not arrive, but the doors to the shaft will open, as a result of which a person, if he does not look down, will fall into it. In reality, such a situation is impossible. The shaft doors can only be opened by the cabin door drive., but not the elevator call button. Even if the cabin doors are not located exactly opposite the floor, they will not open.
  • It is also impossible to open the elevator doors with your hands, because there are locks in the mine that prevent this from happening. Even if in some incredible way this succeeds, the elevator will still not start moving if its doors are not completely closed.
  • The situation is more realistic if the human factor intervenes. For example, a mechanic can short-circuit the contacts responsible for blocking the elevator, and it will drive with the doors unlocked. As for the age of the elevator, this is closely monitored, and elevators that are too old and worn out are removed from service.

Therefore, the fall of the elevator is only possible if it carries out work at the end of its service life. Accidents can only happen due to the negligence of an electrician. In all other cases, the safety systems will always work, so you should not be afraid that the elevator may fall down with you and you will crash. All this is nothing more than a myth.

What to do if the elevator falls?

If the elevator fell, is it possible to survive? Statistics show that such an accident resulted in the death of a passenger twice in history - in 2012 in Thailand and in 2016 in Moscow. Designers claim that the possibility of an emergency with a cabin is possible in one of 12,000,000 elevators, and most breakdowns are associated with jamming doors and buttons.

What could cause a fall?

Most often, injuries and deaths that are supposedly caused by an elevator falling are actually due to the absence of a cabin in the shaft. A person simply steps into empty space, and broken cables have nothing to do with it.

The following breakdowns can lead to an accident:

  • cable breakage due to overload;
  • speed limiter malfunction;
  • problems with electronics.

The cabin actually falls only if the guides are completely destroyed. This is possible in the event of a building collapse, for example due to strong earthquake. There are rare cases where guides break due to construction defects or corrosion. Since the rails are attached to the walls of the shaft on each floor, the cabin will fly a maximum of 2-3 m, after which it will slow down.

In older models, rotten guides are broken by the locking shoes of the brake device. In this case, the cabin falls off the rails and gets stuck between floors. This is explained by the distortion of the device due to the rollers and stoppers.

What happens if the electronics fail? In this case, the car may behave unpredictably. Firstly, an unqualified mechanic can unknowingly damage the interlocking contacts. Secondly, due to magnetization, the required contact will not open at a certain moment, which can lead to an accident.

Even if the emergency does not result in fractures, the person who falls along with the elevator will experience severe psychological stress, in some cases, claustrophobia, and therefore it is worth contacting a specialist.

How to survive an accident?

Modern elevators are equipped with many mechanisms that ensure its safety, for example:

  1. Catchers keep the cabin on the rails in the event of a cable break.
  2. The brakes keep the elevator stationary when the electric motor is turned off.
  3. Limit switches act as limiters, i.e. prevent movement beyond the designated area.
  4. Door contacts and automatic locks prevent the shaft from opening if there is no elevator on the floor.
  5. Underground contacts and warning lights warn that the elevator is busy and prevent you from calling a cabin that already has passengers.
  6. Equipment for calling a technician in case of emergency.
  7. The load limiter prevents an elevator that is more than 110% loaded from starting to move.

Many people believe that if an elevator falls, jumping as the cabin hits the ground will help you survive. However, this won't actually work, and here's why:

  1. The speed of the falling elevator is about 60-70 km/h. A jump will reduce it by 5-6 km/hour, i.e. quite insignificantly.
  2. There is a high probability of hitting your head on the ceiling.
  3. An upright body position increases the risk of injury and fractures.

Some people believe that you can avoid injury by standing on your toes and bending your knees. This option won't work either.

To soften the blow, you need to lie on your back, placing one hand under your head and covering your face with the other. If the passenger has a bag, then it can also protect his head from fragments. The difficulty lies in the fact that a person has only a few seconds for all actions. It is worth noting that this will help if the elevator falls from a relatively small height, whereas in case of an accident on the 20-30 floor, you can only hope for a miracle.

The Guinness Book of Records includes a case in which a woman managed to fall from the 75th floor and remain alive. This happened in 1945 in the USA. Then, when a bomber hit the Empire State Building, they decided to evacuate a 19-year-old girl in an elevator; for some reason, the cables could not stand it, and the cabin fell down. The accident did not end in tragedy only because of the bundle of cables that lay in the shaft and softened the fall.

Almost all injuries in elevators are associated with attempts to independently climb out of a cabin stuck between floors. Therefore, if an emergency situation occurs, you must call the dispatcher and wait for the repair team to arrive. If communication cannot be established, you need to attract the attention of passing people by knocking on the walls and doors of the cabin. If there is no one at the entrance, then you should call 112 or your loved ones.

Infamous - one of the phenomena of rock music. In this so-called club includes the most talented musicians who have had a significant influence on more than one generation. They made a huge contribution to music, but not only this is what unites them - they all died at the height of popularity at the age of 27, often under strange and sometimes unclear circumstances.

Although the number 27 is considered fatal for rock musicians, it is nothing more than a myth, not a curse. If we analyze the biographical information of famous musicians over the last 100 years, we can clearly come to the conclusion that they die at the age of 27 no more often than at any other age. Yes, musicians die earlier than “ordinary” people, and many of them actually die before they reach 40.

There is a simple explanation for this “phenomenon”: the lives of rock musicians are accompanied by alcohol and drugs. To this can also be added a busy lifestyle: constant travel, tours, emotional overload. Many musicians like to believe that turning to drugs and alcohol is a consequence of overload. But the fact remains that the existence "Club 27" is the result of biased selection of random matches. In fact, there is no “curse 27”.

And although the age of 27 is not fatal for musicians, one cannot but agree that at this age many of them, on the one hand, have already done the best they could, and on the other, are still quite young, so their death is surrounded by a romantic aura. Death turns them into legend. Almost all members club were geniuses, showed this genius early, and rocketed to the musical Olympus. Success, crowds of fans, joy creative achievements. Ahead - whole life! As bright stars, they are brighter than all the others, and therefore burn out faster, as they are now and today. Live fast and die young, before they have time to say: “No longer the same as yesterday.” Who are the members? "Club 27"?

Robert Johnson. Divine talent as a gift from the devil

A talented guitarist and skilled singer, he is considered one of the most talented bluesmen of all times. His hits "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom" And "Sweet Home Chicago""became a classic of blues performance.

He was born in 1911 in Mississippi, USA. During his short career Johnson He traveled a lot, performing wherever possible. Before large audience Johnson didn't get there. Only 29 songs that he recorded in Dallas and San Antonio in 1936-1937 became famous. The greatest recognition came to him only after death. His songs were performed Muddy Waters, Elmore James, The Rolling Stone s And Eric Clapton. A big wave interest in work Johnson in the music world took place in the 1960s, when his songs were re-released. Another collection was released in the 1990s and sold millions of copies.

Most of life Robert Jones surrounded by secrets and legends. One of the most famous is about how he achieved such musical mastery. He tried for a long time to learn to play the blues on guitar and had little success, until at one magical crossroads he made a deal with the devil. There are even mentions of this in his songs ( "Me and the devil blues", "Hellhound on my trail", "Crossroad blues").

He died at the age of 27, 1938. The exact cause of death is not known. He was either poisoned, or shot, or stabbed to death by the jealous husband of one of the fans, or mistresses. In the official death certificate, in the “Cause” column there is only “No doctor”... It is also not known where the artist is buried. In one of his blues, he asked that his grave be next to the highway so that his "old evil spirit I could get on the bus and leave.”

Jimi Hendrix. Strange London story

Born 1942. His childhood was not easy; he often lived with some relatives, then with others, or even just with acquaintances. And music became his salvation from loneliness. Having dropped out of school, but not finding a decent job, he joined the army, where he continued to play the guitar. Having been injured, he was forced to leave the army, and by that time he already understood that his calling was music. In 1966 Hendrix met Chas Chandler, former band member Animals. He convinced Jimi go to London, where together with Noel Redding And Mitch Mitchell they created a group The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Hendrix made a huge impression on the English musical elite. Group members, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Eric Clapton and others admired the game Jimi. British music critic Melody Maker wrote about Jimi, that “sometimes it even seems like he plays without any hands at all.”

In support of his first album "Are You Experienced?" the group went on tour, which Hendrix simply blew the audience away with his innovative guitar playing, achieving an amazing sound. He conquered American audience with his virtuoso performance at Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967, at the end of which he set fire to the instrument.

1970 Jimi Hendrix was found dead in a room at the Samarkand Hotel in London. His death was horrific, he choked on his vomit after overdosing on sleeping pills. There is, perhaps, the most criminality around his death. The girlfriend who was with him at the time of his death argued that he could have been saved, but the doctor did not take the necessary measures. The police report stated that Jimi was alone when he was found in the hotel. At the same time, the musician was fully dressed and had already been “dead for some time.” In 2009, a witness came forward and stated that Hendrix killed on the order of the manager, from whom the musician wanted to leave. The doctor who examined the body agreed with this version. But too much time has passed for there to be any hope of finding out the truth.

He was a real rock star and remains popular to this day. There are 351 entries in the posthumous discography. Time magazine called him the greatest guitarist of all time, the most daring and inventive virtuoso in the history of rock: “ Jimi Hendrik could get more out of the guitar than any other musician. He was the greatest guitarist."

Jim Morrison. See Paris and die

The singer and songwriter was born in 1943. He grew up in a military family who rose to the rank of admiral and also played the piano well. Jim grew up surrounded by strict rules, periodically he rebelled, but still finished school and even received a degree from the University, although by his own admission he did this only because he did not want to join the army or go to work. He read a lot since childhood, and at the University he was interested in poetry. The brilliant guitarist, poet and composer is considered one of the most charismatic frontmen in the history of rock music. He became not just one of the creators, but it is believed that it was thanks to him that the group achieved such fame. Dark lyrics Morrison against the background of psychedelic performances, more reminiscent shock therapy, done The Doors the most radical and darkest group of the 1960s. A Morrison known both for his distinctive voice and for his unique stage presence, self-destructive lifestyle and poetic creativity. Rolling Stone magazine included him in its "100" list greatest singers of all times."

ABOUT Morrisone they wrote that he sang as if he were being executed in the electric chair. His music was called "the music of loners." And while the group’s fame was rapidly climbing the musical Olympus, personal life Jim's with the same speed rushed into the abyss. Drunkenness, drugs, fights with police, arrests for indecent behavior - all this became less and less controllable. In an attempt to change something, he took a short time out and went to Paris with his girlfriend Pamela. He was going to be in seclusion, if the evidence is to be believed, this is how his best works. However, there he plunged deeper into drugs and depression. 1971 Pamela found Morrison dead in the bathroom of their rented apartment. He died presumably from cardiac arrest. Since French police found no signs of foul play, no autopsy was performed, leading to much speculation about the cause of death. These include drug overdose, suicide, and even murder. There are still rumors surrounding his death. The only witness to his death, Pamela, took the secret to the grave three years later.

Remains one of the most legendary and mysterious stars rock and roll. Texts written for The Doors, inspired an entire generation of dissatisfied youth who found their hopes and disappointments reflected in his words. Morrison opened the world to those who listened and heard him, inspired them to search for something new and abandon the familiar: “In the world there is the understandable and the incomprehensible, and between them - Doors».

Janis Joplin. The fatal fate of the woman of fate

She had powerful, bluesy vocals that scratched your eardrums and evoked a storm of emotions. She was a genius at improvisation, possessing a talent for performing black blues that was rare among white women.

Janice born 1943. Having discovered an interest in music in early childhood she sang in the church choir, showing great hopes of becoming a good singer. In college she performed on campus at musical evenings, where anyone could perform. Her strong, bold singing style surprised and delighted. But her music career only began when she joined the group Big Brother in 1966. Their album " "Cheap Thrills" was a real hit, although it caused disagreements in the team. Joplin left the group, and the second solo album made her a real star. Unfortunately, the album was released after the singer's death.

October 3, 1970 Janice learned that while she was recording an album in Los Angeles, her fiancé Seth Morgan had an orgy in Texas. Janice got drunk, then there was heroin, perhaps in her stupor she did not realize that she was dealing with a more powerful potion. On the morning of 1970, she did not show up at Sunset Sound Studios, where work on the album was underway. Without reaching her by phone, the group's producer Paul Rothschild sent an assistant to the hotel. Having opened the room with a service key, the hotel employee found Janice lying on the floor. Her lips were bloody and her nose was broken. She was clutching money in her fist—$4.50. The death of a 27-year-old star turned the release of an album with a symbolic title "Pearl" into a sensation, propelling it to the top of the American charts.

Despite the sudden death of the singer, the music continues to win fans and inspire followers. Collections of her recordings have been reissued countless times. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and received a posthumous Grammy for lifetime achievement in 2005. Many books and non-fiction essays have been written about her life, including Love, Janis, written by her sister Laura Joplin, on which the play of the same name is based.

Brian Jones. The man who died every day

Born 1942. In 1962 he became one of the founders of the group The Rolling Stones, which also included pianist Ian Stewart, singer Mick Jaeger and guitarist Keith Richardson. At the beginning of history The Rolling Stones Jones was a team leader, thanks to his ability to see new horizons, a musician who could easily play various instruments, and also a manager. The Rolling Stones purchased cult meaning, not a single performer or group can compare with them either in the number of hits, or in the number of “gold” and “platinum” albums, or in the number of concerts played.

Although Brian Considered the guitarist of the group, he also played sitar, organ, mellotron, flute, harmonica and several other instruments such as tambourine, xylophone and marimba. By the mid-1960s Brian acutely felt the alienation in the team. He increasingly turned to alcohol and drugs, which did not improve relations with team members. In May 1967, the musician was arrested for the first time for drug use, and on June 8, 1969, after recording "Let it Bleed", Jones asked from the group. He decided to start solo career, but didn’t have time.

1969, a month after leaving The Rolling Stones was found at the bottom of a swimming pool in his own home. His death is considered an accident, but there are speculations that he was murdered. and died on the same day, two years apart. Pete Townshend– founder, leader and author of almost all the group’s songs The Who– after death Jones published the poem "A Normal Day For Brian, A Man Who Died Every Day" in The Times.

Kurt Cobain. There can only be one true messiah

Founder and leader of a cult group Nirvana born 1967. The talented guitarist became a legend, an idol, the messiah of his time, he was called the “voice of a generation.” Group Nirvana became the main rock phenomenon of the 1990s. A around the Kurta There was an atmosphere of loneliness. He received the status of the best songwriter of a generation. Only this status, along with the growing popularity of the group, turned out to be too heavy a burden for the talented musician. He began to experience a feeling of painful anxiety about how his music was being received, what awaited him in the future. He started taking heroin. Drugs provided relief from chronic stomach pain. His relationship with Courtney Love was like a whirlwind of nature. Due to drug problems, they had to fight for the right to remain the parents of a daughter born in this marriage. And although his group and his professional life were at the peak of popularity, the musician fell increasingly into a depressed state.

On March 4, 1994, he attempted suicide, but was rescued in time by an ambulance. On March 18, Courtney called the police, reporting that her husband had locked himself in with a gun and was threatening to kill himself. After this incident, Courtney convinced her husband to go to a clinic to get rid of drug addiction.

However, he spent only a few days in the hospital. 1994 in the extension of a country house Kurt took a fatal dose of heroin and shot himself in the head, leaving an impressive farewell letter in which he addressed his fans, his wife and daughter. Despite dying message, there is speculation that it was not a suicide, but a murder, and Courtney Love was on the list of suspects.

Even after his death, he continues to intrigue and inspire his fans. All albums released posthumously reached the top of the charts. It is noteworthy that Cobain holds the record for musicians who earned more after death than during life.

Amy Winehouse. You have to pay dearly for expensive talent

Born 1983. She burst into music world at the age of 16, when she signed her first contract as a jazz singer. Later, her main style became a mix of jazz, R&B, pop and soul music. She was amazingly talented: vocals, called “the voice of the decade,” talent as a composer and poet, and... charisma that bewitched and immersed in silent delight.

For all the gifts given by nature, Amy paid the highest price. To the exit debut album the singer has already gained a reputation as an unbalanced personality, who was more interested in partying and drinking. She often showed up to performances too drunk to work through the concert. That's when she started difficult relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil, who got her hooked on hard drugs. In public, their quarrels often turned into brawls. Their relationship revolved around drugs, alcohol, beatings and self-destruction. In April 2007 Amy announced her engagement to Blake and said that it was her relationship with her future husband that inspired most of her hits from "Back to Black", for which the singer received 5 Grammys, 3 of them for the single "Rehab", in which she talks about her reluctance to undergo rehab...

After marrying Blake in May 2007, Amy returned to her previous destructive life. For the opening of a 17-day US tour Onehouse appeared insane, the audience was disappointed and began to leave the concert. The singer sobbed and cursed. Such inappropriate behavior made her a favorite character of the yellow press.

In August 2007, she found herself in a coma after an overdose, and later admitted that this happened after mixing heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, ketamine, whiskey and vodka. A planned North American tour has been postponed indefinitely. In May 2008 she was in Once again arrested for drug use. After publicly admitting to his drug addiction Amy Having been denied a US visa, she was unable to attend the 2008 Grammy Awards. Instead, her performance in London was broadcast via satellite. It is noteworthy that that evening she received 5 Grammys.

Being at the pinnacle of success in professional life, Amy Winehouse was going downhill in the personal. Even more shocking, even more drugs, even more alcohol. Her marriage to Blake ended in divorce, and her health deteriorated. From a buxom beauty she turned into a skeleton. She was either arrested or sent to the hospital. In 2011, the fantastically talented singer died of alcohol poisoning. Mother Amy called her life a fatal car accident.

"Club 27" - live fast and die young

Is there really a predisposition for self-destruction among young rock stars? Perhaps they could have been saved somehow? The last companions of these unfortunates were almost always drugs and alcohol. “No one is responsible for your addiction, but everyone is responsible for their own rehabilitation.” Now one can only wonder how much more they could have done, how they could have used their amazing talent, if they had lived longer.

Taras Melnichuk

At the age of 27, the actor Taras Melnichuk, known to many for his prominent role in the TV series “The Return of Mukhtar,” passed away in Ukraine. For the last few years, Melnichuk has been battling blood cancer.

Three years ago, the actor was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. The man did not lose his presence of mind and did everything to overcome the terrible disease, he was treated in Belarus, Israel...

“I haven’t written anything about my health and treatment for a long time, but now it’s time to write. I was discharged home a month ago to restore my blood counts, but for some reason I was not recovering well and had to have my bone marrow tested. This time it turned out to be not as good as last time, in the summer, because cancer cells were found. They confirmed a relapse in the bone marrow, which added to my problem - now I have not only local tumors, but also cancer cells in the blood,” Taras Melnychuk recently shared on his Facebook page.

In early December, his sister informed him that he needed donated blood. A few days later, Taras passed away. Melnichuk's family and friends remember him as a kind and bright person.

Kim Jonghyun

Unfortunately, the tragic “Club 27” has added one more name. Famous Korean singer Kim Jonghyun, leader of the wildly popular boy group SHINee, passed away on Monday. The 27-year-old musician was found dead in his own apartment. Suspects of suicide were confirmed after investigators found a suicide note.

Kim grew up without a father; his mother and grandfather were involved in his upbringing. Already from school he became interested in music and even put together own group, in which he performed as a bass guitarist. The talent of a handsome guy was noticed by venerable people music producers and a couple of years later, 18-year-old Kim debuted as part of the boy band SHINee. The handsome man with a melodious voice quickly gained popularity and the love of millions of fans. The simple guy did not suffer from star fever; he admitted more than once that he believed in true love and dreamed of meeting the one and only one. Kim was very worried about the breakup with actress Shin Sekyung - he wrote several sad ballads about unrequited love.

Recently, Kim's career has only been going uphill. Tickets for the singer's concerts (two years ago he began his solo career) were sold out in a matter of minutes, and he became a successful radio host. No one could even imagine that the musician suffered from depression and was deeply unhappy.

On December 18, Kim's sister received a strange message from him. The worried girl rushed to her brother’s apartment, but it was too late. Kim's body was found in the kitchen, and on the stove there was a frying pan with charcoal smoldering. According to experts, Jonghyun was poisoned by combustion products.

“Please let me go. Tell me I made it through. This is the last goodbye, Kim wrote to his sisters.

Amy Winehouse

On September 14 this year she would have turned 34 years old... It seems that she was doomed to a short life and posthumous world fame. Amy remained in the memory of millions of fans of her talent as bright, unusual and, to be honest, the most scandalous star show business. The winner of five Grammy awards (an achievement included in the Guinness Book of Records) made an invaluable contribution to the popularization of soul music. This British girl was incredible talented singer, famous not only for its songs, but also, to put it mildly, for its steel fists. In April 2008, she beat two men bloody near a London bar and spent several days in a police station. None of my relatives or friends Amy Winehouse I never had any illusions that over time the singer would somehow change and settle down. This probably wasn't necessary. Because everyone was accustomed to the image of a shocking and unpredictable star who gave people wonderful songs and lived by the principle “let everything burn with a blue flame.” She broke stereotypes, she was loved and not hated, but Amy was always special and unique. Now, of course, we can say that her addiction to alcohol and illegal substances ruined her. And the premature death of the star was the result of such a stormy life that did not know how to hold back anything. And Amy was buried next to her grandmother, once a jazz singer, in the London suburb of Edgeware.

Heath Ledger

The young Australian loved to play chess and once even won the youth championship. Later, Heath, having achieved acting fame and played a number of wonderful roles in films by famous directors, decided to make a film based on the novel “The Queen's Gambit”. Unfortunately, fate decreed otherwise, calculating his life several moves ahead. Fortune, as if anticipating a tragic outcome, accompanied him in his creative success. One of the most bright roles, which went down in the history of world cinema, is considered to be the role of the Joker in the film directed by Christopher Nolan “The Dark Knight”. By the way, he created the makeup for the image of the brilliant criminal genius himself and even found a laugh characteristic of his character. It would seem that the darling of Hollywood, showered with his favors, was born for eternal success and new achievements await Heath. However, he passed away so suddenly that his many fans are still asking a sad question: what was missing from the charming and young lucky man? Heath was found dead in his New York apartment in Manhattan. The cause of death was an overdose of painkillers and antidepressants. The actor is buried in his hometown of Perth at Karrakatta Cemetery.

Anton Yelchin

Hollywood actor Russian origin Began acting in films at the age of nine. And him creative career was on an ascending line. And in 2005, he was nominated for a Hollywood Life magazine award as the year's brightest young actor. Many critics noted the growing talent of Anton Yelchin. Soon the actor was invited to participate in the filming of the famous blockbusters “Star Trek” and “Terminator: May the Savior Come.” And it is quite possible that in the future Anton would play his most notable roles, which would bring him success in big cinema. But Yelchin’s acting star was not destined to shine on the Hollywood horizon. He died as a result of an absurd accident under the wheels of his own car, which he forgot to put on the handbrake. At least this is the official version of the death of Anton Yelchin.

Janis Joplin

The Queen of Rock and Roll remains among music lovers as one of the best blues singers. For the first time, she broke the long-standing tradition when this direction was considered the creative destiny of poor African Americans. After all, Janice was born into a fairly wealthy family and never knew the need for anything. True, problems came later, when the star suddenly discovered that she had turned from an object of universal admiration (Janice drew beautifully as a child) into a young girl with an unsightly appearance. And her classmates laughed at her plumpness. Janice closed in on herself and hated the mirror. However, this did not stop her from stubbornly pursuing her goal: music lessons revealed the girl’s extraordinary talent as a singer. The rise to fame was rapid: her performances on stage resembled the flame of a fire, the flying sparks of which, figuratively speaking, ignited the audience. Now Janice did not pay attention to the tendency to be overweight and the acne on her face. This now did not in the least prevent her from being the center of male attention. Janice's frantic temperament and her thirst for life largely changed the star's fate. Successes were combined with numerous love affairs, among the men of the queen of rock and roll was famous guitarist Jimi Hendrix. However, at the same time she became interested in using illegal drugs, which led to her death. And it’s sad that Janice never got to complete work on her album “Pearl.”

Kurt Cobain

Legendary leader of Nirvana was a strange and ambiguous person. Even as a child, he frightened his parents with his behavior. And how could one explain the action of a six-year-old boy who threw tin cans filled with stones at the police? Already at the peak of world fame, Kurt Cobain still remained as if separated from everyone by a wall of alienation and loneliness, focusing only on music. He was so far from the drab life that his friends laughed at him when they found neither a stove nor a refrigerator in his apartment. Kurt, like any genius, is simply stuck within himself, fixated on his favorite pastime. But at the same time, he did not spare his body at all, fueling it with alcohol and illegal drugs. It was as if he was playing with death: one day famous musician barely recovered from the overdose. But you can’t tempt fate for so long, driving yourself into a corner. At one point of depression, Kurt decided to commit suicide and shot himself with a gun. Although the reasons for his death are still shrouded in mystery...

Jimi Hendrix

The future rock legend, at an early age, loved to pretend to be a guitarist, and a mop served as his instrument. Until his father, tired of his impromptu concerts, gave Jimi a real acoustic guitar. By the way, the world would never have seen the famous musician on stage: he almost ended up in jail for stealing two cars. Out of harm's way, his father sent Jimi into the army, where he briefly served as a paratrooper, mostly playing the guitar. Note that Hendrix's early performances were not successful. And then, on the advice of a journalist, he decided to set fire to his guitar during a performance in order to effectively stun the audience. However, the first pancake turned out to be lumpy: Jimi burned his hands and spent several days in the hospital. However, he later mastered this trick well. One of the most striking performances of Jimi Hendrix took place at the end of the 60s of the last century. It took place at the Woodstock festival and had an impact on those around him. strong impression. And yet it's sad that best guitarist of all times continued the “tradition” of famous musicians. Taking illegal drugs before concerts became the norm for Jimi. Perhaps this habit and alcohol were the cause of his death. According to doctors, he died from asphyxia in his sleep. However, an autopsy showed that there were no toxins in Jimi Hendrix's body at all.

This year, the lineup of the notorious “club 27” was replenished with a new name: a performer of modern rhythm and blues and soul. Critics gave the group the name "Club 27" musicians, who passed away at the age of 27. As a rule, they all had a serious influence on the development of rock, blues and related genres. Among them are such famous performers as Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain.

Does this age bear the mystical stamp of rock, or is it just a coincidence - many have asked themselves this question music critics and historians of modern music. Thus, the biographer of Kurt Cobain wrote that “the number of musicians who die at 27, really significant by any standards. Although people die at all times and at all ages, the number of deaths among musicians aged 27 increases significantly."

Researchers from the University of Queensland decided to determine the reason for this. They set out to trace the connection between age and early death. It is intuitively clear that the lifestyle of a rock musician with constant drinking, drug overdoses and touring can easily lead to the grave. However, why does the number 27 have such power?

To study this phenomenon, the researchers compared the average mortality rates of musicians and ordinary Britons. A list of 1,046 solo and band artists whose albums topped the UK charts between 1956 and 2007 was compiled. During this time, 71 musicians passed away, which is 7% of total number. The list included representatives of different genres - from pop and rock and roll to hardcore and punk. The mystical secret was revealed through mathematical analysis.

As a result, the researchers came to obvious and unexpected conclusions. So, they didn’t find anything fatal at the age of 27. Nevertheless, two to three times more 20- to 30-year-old musicians died during this period than ordinary citizens. Death especially overtook them in the late 1970s and early 1980s. An interesting pattern was noted: in the late 1980s in this age group no mortality was observed.

The author of the work, Adrian Barnett, said that this could be due to two reasons. First, in the late 1980s, better treatments for heroin addiction became available, so overdose deaths became rare. Secondly, the nature of music has changed. The daring rock was replaced by pop music, which took a dominant position in this era. And the notorious “Club 27” is just a myth and a mere coincidence, the researcher concluded.
