Making music on a computer has always been a challenging task for beginners. A huge number of programs, very difficult to master, and their high cost have given the art of computer composition a certain reputation as being not accessible to everyone. Magix is ​​trying to change this situation with its Music Maker software package. Magix has been systematically developing its product for many years, which is based on functions from the professional software package Magix Samplitude. With Music Maker, musicians of any skill level can create musical compositions. Although the program is incredibly easy to use, the music created with it can be quite complex.

Music Maker program passed long haul development, and in this version it is called MX, which means Media-X-Change - fast exchange of media files with other MAGIX programs, online services and mobile devices, which is modern and relevant.

After installation, the program prompts you to download additional banks sounds and instrument packs. They contain materials on which you can create musical compositions. Magix provides over 1,500 sound bites and loops out of the box, plus another 2,000 sounds in the online archive. These are sampled musical fragments of drums, bass, guitars, vocals, synthesizers in various musical genres: hip-hop, rock, alternative, techno, trance, electro, chill-out, pop, minimal, techno-house, etc. You can use them to create an arrangement to your taste, like building bricks. All samples can be combined with each other and with other melodies. They automatically adjust to the tempo of the current song, ensuring that you are 100% on time. It is worth noting that each melodic loop or sample is written in seven pitch variations, in accordance with the steps in the key. This is an important point, since most music programs to change the pitch and key of loops use various options changes in pitch (pitch shifting), which negatively affects sound quality. Music Maker also allows you to record your own sound fragments.

As with the entire Magix product line, the Music Maker program contains a large number of tips and training videos (including in Russian!), so there should be no problems with mastering it.

The main program window is a combination of the following work areas: arrangement field, sound bank manager, transport panel and information field.

Objects are manipulated in the arrangement field. All standard editing operations are available, such as copying, cutting, increasing/reducing, changing object volume, editing fades, changing automation parameters. The basic version of Music Maker has 64 tracks. The easiest way to start creating a composition is to drag suggested samples and loops into the arrangement window. Once a music object is placed on the desired track, it is assigned an icon icon of the corresponding musical instrument to make it easier to navigate the arrangement.

To avoid getting lost in a huge number sound samples, Music Maker has a convenient file manager. In it, the sound library is divided into styles and instruments.

The transport panel is concise and easy to understand, like the entire program interface. This is where the playback, metronome and master bus output level controls are located.

MAGIX Music Maker MX contains a real-time mixer with a master effects section. By default, the mixer displays 8 tracks at a time. You can use the buttons near the bottom scroll bars to increase or decrease the size of the mixer. The scroll bar allows you to browse through other tracks.

The layout of the mixer is quite clear: at the top there are insert slots, then sends to effects buses, a panorama control, solo-mute buttons, a fader with numerical and graphical display of the signal level.

It includes a 10-band graphic equalizer, reverb, delay, compressor, pitch and velocity changer, distortion and filter. Each of the elements is easy to control, and the processing capabilities make it easy to adjust the sound. The combination of clarity and high-quality sound effects makes mixing work quick and productive. Music Maker now has built-in VST support, greatly expanding your technical and creative capabilities.

In the version of Music Maker provided for testing, in addition to the standard set of sounds, it was proposed to download an additional bank of samples from the catooh service. The downloaded archive must be imported into the main library. Sounds are automatically distributed by style and instrument. This archive contains the following styles: rock alternative, 70s funk, brazil, HipHop, house, oriental. Since the principle of organizing multimedia banks is the same, let's consider one of them, for example oriental. In the sound manager we see the available groups of instruments: Bass, Drums, Ethnic, Pads, Percussions, Strings.

Let's start putting together the basis of the arrangement. First, select a drum part, for example "cave A", and place the loop on the first track. The tempo of the song is automatically adjusted to the tempo of the loop. In our case it is 110 bpm. By stretching the right corner of the loop, we will stretch it to 8 bars.

The timeline above the edit window allows you to accurately track the duration of sounds of objects. Now let's add bass. Let it be deepbass. We will put the first version of this loop on the initial four measures, and the second option on measures from five to eight. It is worth noting that the loops within the style are very well combined in sound. On the one hand, at first this allows you to get good results and the composition sounds good from the very beginning. But to achieve an individual sound, you need to show your imagination and work on the arrangement and effects. Let's add a Tab A and Tab B percussion part and a Winter 1 pad to give it some "atmospheric". The rhythm section is ready.

The "ethnic" glowing sample suits the melody well. For the harmonic basis, let's take a sample of swell strings. We will arrange the objects so that the composition sounds diverse and develops.

Now let's add effects. On the drum part, let's turn on the compressor module, with it the rhythmic basis will sound more collected and better read in the overall mix. Let's add a small amount of medium room echo to the percussion part, this will add perspective and a sense of volume to the composition. Before starting a new section in the seventh measure, let's leave only the percussion sounding, and add a little chorus to this object.

Such simple techniques make the composition contrasting and memorable. Music Maker features unique object-based editing. It allows you to use real-time effects for a single object.
When the composition is ready, it needs to be exported. Music maker offers quick way saving the arrangement in MP3 format and sending it to the Internet, or burning it to CD or DVD.
