Collection “The Ural Were”

The book was published in the city of Sverdlovsk. It was with her, according to Bazhov, that his literary activity. The collection includes nineteen tales, including “The Blue Snake”, “Silver Hoof”, “Stone Flower”, “ Malachite Box", "Mistress of the Copper Mountain", "Sinyushkin Well". The heroes of these works are the owners of factories and mines, clerks, and ordinary workers. All works are created on the basis of Ural legends, which the writer collected and carefully preserved for a long time.

There lived in a Ural village a guy named Ilya. He was an orphan. The deceased relatives - mother, father, grandfather, grandmother - did not leave Ilya any inheritance. The only one valuable thing, inherited by the young man from deceased relatives - a sieve of feathers from grandmother Lukerya. During the funeral they were stolen, only three feathers remained: white, black and red. The dying grandmother told her grandson to avoid bad thoughts about wealth, since people suffer from them.

Having buried Lukerya, Ilya went to work. He worked in a gold mine. That time the weather was hot, so the young man decided to go through the Zyuzel swamp. Usually they walked this road in the fall, but Ilya thought that the swamp had dried up due to the heat. At first he walked in the right direction, but then he got lost. In search of a road, a young man came out into a clearing, in the center of which there was a key with clean water. Ilya wanted to get drunk, but suddenly he was overcome with extreme fatigue. He barely crawled to the side to rest a little. Suddenly the guy noticed an old woman coming out of the water. She was dressed in blue dress, on his head was a scarf of the same color. She was old, but blue eyes beamed with youth and enthusiasm.

The old woman extended her arms to Ilya, and the guy noticed that they began to lengthen. The young man was frightened, turned away and buried his nose in the feathers that Lukerya had left. He attached them to his hat so that he could always remember his grandmother’s orders. From this he began to sneeze and immediately came to his senses. The guy rose to his feet and began to mock the old woman and her weakness: she could not raise her hands from the ground and reach him. Ilya guessed that the old woman was the same one that the grandmother was talking about. She guards the magic well. According to rumors, there is a lot of wealth in it, but few can get it. They argued for a long time until Ilya promised to come to the well again. That's where we parted.

Arriving at the mine, Ilya explained to the caretaker that he was late because of the funeral. He was asked about the feathers that were attached to the hat. The young man replied that they were enchanted and valuable as a memory. One of the workers, Kuzka Dvoyrylko, was jealous of Ilya’s intelligence, strength and hard work, so he stole these feathers at the first opportunity. Ilya searched for them for a long time, but never found them. Kuzka began to keep an eye on Ilya to make sure that without feathers he would lose his luck. He saw how Ilya attached a long stick to the ladle, how on Sunday he went to the magic well and tried to outwit Grandma Sinyushka by drinking water from the well. The old woman appreciated Ilya’s courage and dexterity and said that if he returned when the full moon was in the sky, he would receive a reward. Kuzka Dvoerylko heard their conversation and decided to get ahead of Ilya. Soon the mine noticed that he had disappeared. They looked for Kuzka for a long time, but they never found him.

When Ilya returned to the well, the old woman offered him gold twice and gems, which she held in her hands on a huge tray. Both times Ilya refused, motivating his decision by the fact that a person could not carry away so much wealth. For the third time the old woman appeared in the guise of a young girl. She gave Ilya a sieve, left behind by her grandmother and stolen by someone, full of wild berries. In the very center lay the treasured three feathers.

The girl was so beautiful that upon returning home Ilya knew no peace. The stones into which the donated berries turned did not console him. The guy used this money wisely, paid off the master, built a new hut, bought a horse, but never married. Ilya felt so bad that he decided to return to the well. But on the way I met a girl from neighboring village, who was very similar to the mistress of the magic well. They got married, but their happiness was short-lived. Both died because they were in poor health.

A young worker named Stepan once saw a girl in the forest - beautiful, with a long braid and wearing clothes made of malachite. He realized that this was the Mistress of the Copper Mountain herself. The girl told him that she had business with him. We need to go to the factory clerk and tell him to get out of the Krasnogorsk mine. The Mistress promised Stepan that she would marry him if he fulfilled her orders. Then she turned into a lizard and ran away. The next morning Stepan went to the clerk and handed over everything that was ordered. For this they flogged him, took him down the mountain, and chained him up. At the same time, they ordered to extract a lot of malachite. The Mistress helped Stepan because he was not afraid to fulfill her order. He mined a lot of malachite. The Mistress showed him her dowry. And then she began to ask if he agreed to take her as his wife. Stepan thought and said that he already had a fiancée. The Mistress praised him for not coveting her wealth. She gave Stepan a box of jewelry for his bride. And then she said that he would live richly, but he must forget her. Soon he got married, built a house, and had children. But he was not happy. Stepan began going into the forest to hunt and every time he looked at the Krasnogorsk mine. Stepan could not forget the Mistress. One day he went into the forest and did not return - he was found dead.

"Malachite Box"

Another very famous work cycle "Ural Tales". Summary The “Malachite Box” is presented in this article. This tale is a continuation of the story about the Mistress of the Copper Mountain. Stepan died, but the malachite box remained with his widow Nastasya. Jewelry was kept in it, given by the Mistress. Only Nastasya didn’t wear them and wanted to sell them. There were many people who wanted to buy the box. But everyone offered a small price. There was another reason why she kept the box with her. Youngest daughter Tatyana loved these decorations very much. Tanyusha grew up and, thanks to a stranger who asked to stay at their house for the night, she learned to embroider with silk and beads. And she was such a craftswoman that she began to earn a lot of money. Soon the master saw the girl and was so struck by her beauty that he invited her to become his wife. She agreed, but set the condition that she would marry him if he showed her the queen in a room made of malachite made by her father. The master promised to fulfill her wish. Finding herself in the queen’s malachite chamber, the girl leaned against the wall and melted. Since then, no one has heard anything about her, they only began to notice that the Mistress of the Copper Mountain began to double.

"Stone Flower"

This work is the last of the series about the Mistress of the Copper Mountain, which was created by Pavel Bazhov. “Ural Tales”, as you know, includes several stories about this amazing beauty. “The Stone Flower” is a story about the orphan Danilka, who at the age of 12 became an apprentice to a malachite master. The boy was talented and the teacher liked him. When Danila grew up, he became an excellent craftsman. He had a dream. He wanted to create a malachite bowl that looked like a flower. I even found a suitable stone. But he just couldn’t cut out a beautiful flower. One day he met the Mistress of the Copper Mountain herself. He asked her to show him her stone flower. The Mistress tried to dissuade him from this, but he insisted. He saw the flower of the Mistress of the Copper Mountain and from then on he completely lost peace. Then he broke his unfinished bowl and left. He was never seen again, but there were rumors that he was serving with the Mistress of the Copper Mountain.

"Silver Hoof"

P. P. Bazhov wrote “Ural Tales” for children, but they are also interesting for adults. One of the stories that appeals to readers of all ages is “The Silver Hoof.” Lonely old man Kokovanya sheltered an orphan. Grandfather worked every day, and his granddaughter put things in order in the hut and cooked. In the evenings, Kokovanya told the girl fairy tales. And one day he told her about a magic goat with a silver hoof, which he knocks on, and precious stones appear in that place. Once a girl was waiting for her grandfather from hunting and saw through the window that her cat was playing with the same goat from the fairy tale. She ran out to look at him. And the goat jumped onto the roof, began to beat with his hoof, and precious stones fell from under his feet. Grandfather and granddaughter collected them and lived comfortably for the rest of their lives.

"Sinyushkin Well"

The book “Ural Tales” includes the story of the good fellow Ilya. He was left an orphan early. The only inheritance he received was a sieve full of feathers from Lukerya’s grandmother, who instructed her grandson not to pursue riches. One day Ilya decided to take a short route to the mine. And this path lay through the swamp. Ilya felt thirsty. He looks, and in the swamp there is an area with clean water, like a well. He decided to drink this water, lay down on the ground, and from the water Sinyushka stretched out her hands to him. He managed to overcome her charms, he stood up and spat on her hand. And she began to tease him that he would not be able to drink water from her well. Ilya promised Sinyushka that he would return and left.

The fellow kept his promise. Ilya returned, tied the ladle to a perch and used it to scoop up water from the well. Sinyushka was amazed at his ingenuity and promised to show her wealth. Ilya came to the well again. And girls come up to him with trays full of jewelry. He remembered that his grandmother had punished him and began to refuse everything. An eighteen-year-old beauty approached him with a sieve containing berries and feathers. Ilya realized that this was Sinyushka. He took the sieve from her hands. When I came home, the berries turned into gems. Ilya began to live richly, but he could not forget Sinyushka. One day he met a girl very similar to her, and he married her.

This tale is about the fact that the main riches in life are not gold and gems. Sinyushkin's well is a test that only those who do not envy, are not greedy and remember advice can pass.

"Jumping Firefly"

The book that Bazhov P. wrote - “Ural Tales” - includes a story about a gold mine. One day the men were sitting by the fire, and with them was the boy Fedyunka. And suddenly they saw red-haired girl who jumped out of the fire. She danced, and then stopped near a pine tree and stamped her foot. According to legend, this is how she indicated the place where gold should be looked for. Only she deceived this time - there was nothing under the pine tree. Soon Fedyunka saw Jumping again. This time she showed him the right place. The boy found gold and lived comfortably for 5 years. The people heard about it, and everyone rushed to that mine for gold. People were coming there from all directions. But the gold disappeared there because of this.

There lived a guy in the mines. His name was Ilya. He had no one, only his grandmother Lukerya. All that Ilya inherited from his parents is Strong arms, cheerful disposition and fair character.

Before her death, Grandma Lukerya left Ilya an order: to live honestly, not to chase wealth, not to take what belongs to others. And she also told about Grandma Sinyushka, who lives in the swamp and guards untold riches. I also left Ilya a full sieve with feathers. She said that they would bring him good luck and protect him from harm.

The old women of the village helped Ilya bury his grandmother. He returned home from the cemetery, and there was nothing in the hut. The old women stole all my grandmother’s things, they didn’t even disdain feathers. There are only three feathers left. The guy grieved that he had not preserved his grandmother’s inheritance, and went to the mine. I tied the remaining three feathers with thread and attached them to my hat.

To shorten the road, Ilya went through the swamp. I got to the middle of it and saw a window with water in it. Suddenly he was drawn to sleep. With difficulty he crawled to a hillock and lay down there. Then a little old lady appeared from that window, all in blue clothes. She wanted to grab Ilya and drag her with her. Her arms are long, barely noticeable, she is drawn to him, but cannot reach him. Apparently grandma's feathers protect from harm. Ilya realized that this was Grandma Sinyushka, whom Lukerya had told him about.

Sinyushka could not cope with Ilya by force, she decided to take it by cunning. I started to egg the guy on. Ilya became brave and promised that on the first free day he would come and use a ladle to scoop up all the water from the window. And then he went to the mine. But something alarmed the guy: either the grandmother’s eyes, or her young and clear voice.

At the mine, Ilya told what kind of inheritance he got. And he jokingly explained that these feathers were not simple, but enchanted. There was a guy standing among the workers, his name was Kuzma. He was very greedy. He greatly envied Ilya for his skill at work and cheerful character. He believed in these stories and decided to first steal the feathers, and then follow Ilya. So I did.

Ilya came to the swamp for the second time and tried to scoop up water with a ladle. He kept threatening to pour that water on Grandma Sinyushka. And she still laughed at him. She realized that Ilya was visiting her in the swamp with pure thoughts: he wanted to see how the grandmother turned into a girl. She ordered him to come on the full moon and be sure to say that he came without a ladle.

Kuzma was eavesdropping at that time and decided to get ahead of Ilya and come earlier. When the moon became full, the conversation at the mine started - Kuzma disappeared. They looked for the sake of appearance, but that was all.

Ilya came to the swamp for the third time. I wasn’t even afraid to show up without feathers; they had disappeared somewhere. He and Grandma Sinyushka argued for a long time. Finally, she agreed to appear to him in a girl’s guise and disappeared through the window. Suddenly steps were heard from the forest. Ilya looked around and saw the girl. All her clothes are on of blue color, and a long braid with a blue ribbon. The guy has never met such a beauty. She handed him a sieve that had disappeared from the hut, full of different berries, and three feathers on top. The girl explained that Kuzma came to her for wealth, but stayed in that swamp. Only the feathers he stole floated to the surface. The girl said goodbye to Ilya and disappeared.

Ilya returned to his hut, looked into the heavy sieve, and there were gold bars and precious stones lying there. With the help of these treasures, he bought the owner's freedom, built a house, and started a farm. Only he can’t forget the girl from the swamp. He decided to go there again. We met some girls who were going into the forest to pick berries. Among them, Ilya saw a girl - a copy of Grandma Sinyushka in a maiden form. With her, Ilya found his destiny. A new mine was discovered in the swamp, but the well that Ilya talked about was never found.

The tale teaches us to live honestly, according to conscience, and to work for joy. Remember that anger and greed are always punished.

In 1973, an animated film of the same name was released. The director was V. Fomin. A few years later, the artist V. Markin drew illustrations that formed the basis of the filmstrip.

Let's sum it up

“Sinyushkin Well” by Pavel Bazhov is a tale about ingenuity and honesty, courage and selflessness. The main character, a young man named Ilya, survived a severe test of wealth and greed. For his spiritual qualities, he received an award from the hands of Grandma Sinyushka, who appears in the form of a young girl and personally gives gifts only to those who are worthy of it.
