What does an American middle name mean? Why do the British need a second name? Use of double names in Russia

Good afternoon, dear readers!

I recently made myself a pillow out of old tulle!

And it was like this. I started surfing the Internet looking for interesting ideas decorative pillows and came across amazingly beautiful lace pillows with flowers. So I was inspired to do something like this. And as a material, I decided to use old tulle, which I have plenty of at home. Despite the fact that I regularly clean out my closet and throw out old things, I somehow never got around to throwing away the tulle.

After all, from old tulle you can make all sorts of beautiful things for your home and beyond with your own hands. I want to talk about some of these ideas and show photos that I found on the Internet.

How to bleach old tulle

But before you sew or make anything, you need to put the old tulle in order. The tulle needs to be washed and, if necessary, bleached from yellowness and grayness.

To bleach tulle, you need to use bleach and other chemicals very carefully, because if you overdo it with the amount and soaking time, you can simply ruin the tulle and pull miserable rags out of the basin or bucket. In addition, once tulle has been bleached in this way, it needs constant bleaching, because the stains on it will no longer be washed off.

I always use simple recipe bleaching tulle using salt.

I’ll pour it into a basin or enamel bucket hot water and add 3 tablespoons of salt per (5 liters of water).

I soak the tulle in a well-mixed salt solution overnight. Then all that remains is to wash it as usual.

You can also use hydrogen peroxide and ammonia to bleach tulle: 1 tablespoon ammonia and 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide in a bucket of water, soak the tulle for half an hour and it’s already as good as new!

Old tulle pillows

These and other pillows were my inspiration for working from old tulle.

How to sew a pillow from old tulle

As a cover for the pillow, in addition to tulle, I used curtain fabric, from which my other pillows on the sofa were made.

From fabric and tulle we cut out two rectangular sheets measuring 45 x 90 centimeters + seam allowance.

The tulle blank needs to be folded in half and the folded area ironed - this way the middle will be clearly defined.

We chop the tulle fabric with the fabric one and sew it on a machine in the middle so that both of these fabrics are well connected to each other and when using the pillow later they do not move.

The pillow made from old tulle is basically ready, all that remains is to decorate it.

How to make roses for decoration

I made three roses different sizes from stripes of the same tulle and satin fabric.

For one rose, I sewed strips together in this order: long pink, tulle, short pink, tulle. I pre-bent the strips of fabric in half and finished the edges.

Along the edge of the tape we sew a line with wide stitches, tighten it a little.

We fold a corner on one side of the ribbon and begin to twist the rose, grabbing it with a needle and thread.

For the second rose, I sewed the stripes like this: long tulle, long pink, short tulle, long pink.

And for the big rose, I sewed a long strip of tulle to the long pink strip of fabric.

The size of the roses depends on the length of the strip. From a strip about 50 cm long, a rosette with a diameter of 3-4 cm is obtained, but it also depends on the density of the fabric and the tightness of the twist. A thinner fabric makes the rose more delicate and airy. My fabric was thick, that’s why the roses turned out so stuffed, and this was my first time making them.

I sewed the roses onto the pillow and additionally decorated it with braid and beads.

The delicate old tulle pillow may not be as beautiful as the photos I saw, but it was made with soul, and it fits perfectly among the other bright decorative pillows.

Pillow with tulle decor

I made another decorative pillow using elements from old tulle a long time ago, but I haven’t talked about it before.

For such a pillow, I sewed a cover from squares of two different colors: orange and brown fabric.

I cut out petals from tulle, trimmed them with finishing braid and sewed them onto each square of the pillow cover.

What to make from old tulle

Tablecloth

A beautiful lace tablecloth for the table does not have to be knitted; you can sew it from tulle, even old one. I made a similar tablecloth for my veranda.

Curtains

From the same tulle I somehow sewed curtains for the kitchen, or rather, I adapted them for the veranda, but this model would also be suitable for the kitchen; I saw this idea in the magazine “Liza” for exactly this purpose. The curtains are sewn using the patchwork technique in combination with curtain fabric. I talked about them in detail

Lamp shade

To create a beautiful lace lampshade, a piece of fabric is glued to an existing boring lampshade or a simple lampshade purchased specially, which can first be repainted in the desired color. The edges are folded inward, trimmed and glued.

Cup coasters

I found these ideas for original glass-based stands. I don’t know if you have such glass blanks? I think few people have it. I offer no less interesting way: Take your accumulated CDs!

The disk must first be covered with plain paper or cloth to cover the hole. Next, we cut out circles from tulle a little larger than the disk, cut the edges in several places, fold them onto the back side of the disk and glue them. Then from above to back side you need to glue another disk. You can additionally decorate stands made of old tulle on disks with braid, gluing it along the edge.

Chair cover

Cut out a piece of old tulle, sew a little cover out of it and put it on the back of a chair. , tie with ribbon.

You can sew or glue a lace fabric onto burlap with double-sided tape and decorate a chair with it. True, the photo, of course, is not old tulle, but it can be used. The edges will just be smooth.

Napkins

Using the same principle, you can make a beautiful napkin with lace using a burlap base. This option for a summer house will be incomparable!

Ideas for a summer residence

You can make other garden decorations from old tulle. For example, use for !

Or this cute little basket.

We sew an elastic band to the edge of the tulle fabric, stretching it, and put this outfit on the basket. We wrap the handle with a ribbon made from old tulle.

Having finished decorating the walls and arranging the furniture, the joyful owners realize that they also need to decorate the windows. A small detail will add comfort and completeness to the interior. Of course, you can buy ready-made curtains, but sometimes they may also lack some “zest” - and you can do it yourself.

You can hang flowers on the curtains

Curtains can be tied up beautifully

Beads are perfect for decorating curtains

Despite the fact that most designers recommend abandoning the lush decoration of windows, preferring the simplicity and conciseness of minimalism and hi-tech styles, many still prefer light, almost airy options in the shabby chic or Provence style.

Floral decor

The first is characterized by floral prints, airiness and “blurriness” of color. For curtains, you can make tiebacks from nylon or organza in the color of the curtains. Interesting solution decorating curtains with your own hands - decorating light tulle with fabric flowers - they can be made from ribbons - nylon or organza, decorated with beads and sewn along the bottom of the curtains, making a light drapery.

Provence also welcomes light fabrics, floral or checkered stripe prints. Delicate curtains for the kitchen can be made of white cotton, decorated with cross stitch or satin stitch - small floral motifs, butterflies or birds will decorate the window. Bright windows of the nursery

A riot of colors triumphs in the nursery. Additional decor curtains may be superfluous here. However, when ordering curtains, you can additionally order unusual lambrequins. If you want to make curtains “for growth”, preferring simple shapes, consider these options:

  • Thread curtains. You can buy them ready-made, but it’s more interesting to make them yourself - then you will choose the color and texture that you want.
  • Toy grabbers. Cute little animals, sewn or knitted with their own hands, gently hug the curtain, not allowing it to close the window. A button is sewn to one foot, a loop is made on the other.

  • the circle is wrapped with satin or nylon ribbon;
  • the resulting hoop can be decorated with artificial flowers, ribbons, or a small soft toy;
  • Cover the sushi stick with spray paint or wrap it with satin ribbon. It will help hold the curtain.

Fashion trends in window design

The desire for simplicity and convenience dictates its own rules for window decoration. Plainly dyed fabrics, dense ones, are in fashion. natural materials– linen, cotton, silk, organza. The preference of the year is flax and bamboo.

In general, natural style dominates in interior design and window decoration. Hence the color preferences: close to natural or cold tones:

  • blue;
  • grey;
  • walnut;
  • green;
  • blue-green;
  • brown;
  • yellow-brown.

Preference is given to plain materials, and the type of curtains is single-layer. If double curtains are used, tulle or organza in color should be as close as possible to the color of the wallpaper or a little brighter. Video: Ways to decorate curtains

No one is surprised that fashionable and modern curtains that were just yesterday are becoming a relic today. But don’t throw away strong fabric just because it’s out of fashion or faded a little in the sun. By showing imagination and resourcefulness, you can remake old curtains in such a way that you get new decor for the interior of your home or cottage.

Renewing old curtains

How to give new life to old fabrics

First, you need to understand the type of fabric from which the curtains that have gone out of use were sewn.

Brocade

This thick fabric made of silk with an ornament made of silver or gold threads. Fibers made from alloys of these metals are sometimes used. During the production process, thread with gold is wound onto linen, cotton or silk weft. Natural brocade is an expensive fabric, so in residential premises they often use imitation, which visually differs little from the original.

It’s a pity to throw away such products, so every housewife can renew old curtains by giving them new life. The easiest way is to make new curtains from old ones.

In addition, the fabric is used to make bedspreads, chair covers, and complement the composition with brocade pillows stuffed with batting. A nuance: when sewing up a pillow, the cotton wool is knocked to the opposite end, and then distributed evenly.

Linen

Linen fabric is made from flax skins, resulting in a smooth fabric that is pleasant to the touch.

You can sew beautiful curtains from old curtains. In the case of brocade, it is preferable to choose the Roman version. To do this, prepare materials:

  • old curtains;
  • threads matching the color;
  • sewing machine;
  • braid;
  • strip for cornice.

Roman curtains

To alter curtains for the kitchen, the simplest sewing skills are enough. The main thing is to make the correct calculation of the fabric during the work, as well as evenly distribute the folds. Sewing instructions are taken from specialized sites that show a step-by-step algorithm.

You can use old curtains to create a rigid lambrequin or tiebacks for other curtains that match the style. The worn-out material is also used to make new clocks in a rustic style. To do this, cover the dial with linen cloth, after first removing the hands with numbers. After the fabric is evenly stretched and secured at the back, all the fittings are reinserted into the grooves. The rustic clock is ready!

Old linen curtains are an excellent source of material for making tablecloths or table napkins. And if you apply decorative embroidery to the fabric pulled into the frame, you get a panel for the bedroom or hallway.

Synthetics

Synthetic fabric is obtained from inorganic compounds or synthetic and natural polymers of organic origin.

Synthetics are wear-resistant, so they are ideal for upholstering the backs and seats of old chairs. To alter curtains, first take measurements taking into account the overlap, then cut out the parts and, after preliminary fitting, sew them from the inside out if they are made in the form of covers. But it’s easier and more convenient to work if pieces cut from old synthetic curtains are glued to the base with interior glue or nailed with a stapler.

Tulle

Tulle is considered a type of synthetic fabric. After prolonged use, it turns yellow or gray, as a result of which it is replaced with a new one. But there is always the opportunity to use an old tulle curtain to make the interior more cozy and aesthetically pleasing. First, the fabrics are returned to their original color using bleach. To do this, use a strong saline solution, blue or white.

Decors are made from ready-to-use material flower pots, decorations for frames on old photos. If they decorate Vacation home or a dacha - baskets or pillows are decorated with tulle. For a pillow you will need a base stuffed with batting or holofiber and openwork material folded several times. The tulle pillowcase is sewn inside out, placed over the pillow, and then carefully sewn by hand.

Old tulle is used to decorate tablecloths: it looks especially beautiful on fresh air in the garden.
