Quill pen drawing with pencil. How to draw birds

In the old days, bird feathers were very popular, because writers used only them to create their masterpieces, dipping the tip of the pen into an inkwell. It looks very beautiful and elegant, but how to draw a feather step by step? An inexperienced artist may find the task difficult, since the subject consists of small parts, however, this is an appearance. The work is simple, even a child can handle it.

How to draw a feather realistically?

This lesson is easy to repeat, the main thing is not to confuse the sequence of points. The result is a very realistic and beautiful bird feather. So let's get started:

  • To begin, mark a rod on a sheet of paper - the basis of the drawing. Mark it as a light and slightly curved line.
  • Second component drawing - fan. Mark its outline around the rod with a light line. The shape of the fan from top to bottom initially expands neatly and smoothly, and towards the end it sharply becomes sharp. Now the line can be made more realistic by pressing harder on the pencil.
  • Now start drawing the feathers. They should have a slightly noticeable bend in the middle. Keep in mind how to draw a feather realistically: the hairs are drawn from the tips to the shaft (unlike animal fur and human hair, which are drawn from the roots to the tips).
  • Erase the outer contours of the fan and replace them with jerky light lines.
  • Intensely tint the feathers. Don't forget to darken the space around the rod. The drawing is ready!

Will the child be able to draw a feather?

Every child can cope with the task, the main thing is to clearly explain to him how to draw a feather. Certainly, realistic drawing The kids won’t succeed, so we teach them a schematic representation of bird feathers. Let's get started:

How to draw the Firebird's feather?

The feather of the wonderfully beautiful Firebird is very easy to draw. Take a piece of paper, a pencil and start creating! To begin with, of course, we draw the rod. It consists of two lines (hollow inside) and is curved in two places - in the middle and towards the end. At the end of the feather we draw an inverted heart - the distinctive sign of the Firebird as a character. Next, we outline the fan, as in the first lesson (we looked at how to draw a feather realistically). Inside the inverted heart at the end of the rod we draw another inverted heart. On the outside of the first heart, draw its halo - this is a burning feather! Since they emit considerable light around themselves, around the drawing dotted lines depict a beautiful glow. Feather fairy tale character drawn!

Thanks to such simple lessons By drawing, you can keep yourself and your children busy in your spare time with something useful!

I received many requests asking me to show and tell how I draw the feathers for my wings, and thus this tutorial was born. I hope you find it useful and easy to use.

The pen shown was created in Photoshop CS5.

It can be created either with a mouse or on a tablet, although with a mouse the process will be more time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Note: This pen does not claim to be "realistic".

Please, if you succeed, show off your work.

1. Create two new Photoshop layers.

The feather should be large enough that you can resize it later and make it either short or long, so choose a blade height of at least 15 inches or more.

2. Fill the bottom layer with black. Edit – Fill – … (Edit – Fill – …)

3. Using the basic round hard brush that everyone has versions of Photoshop, and roughly draw out the basic shape of the feather in whatever color you want. The shape doesn't have to be perfect.

4. Using the Burn tool, draw diagonal lines directed downwards from the center of the pen.

On a new layer I drew a straight line down the center of the feather to guide me. Where should the diagonals start?

5. Using the Burn tool different sizes and degrees of intensity, continue drawing diagonal lines until you get the desired result.

It is very important to vary the dark and light lines.

6. Using the Smudge tool, about 12 or 15 px in size, go around the edges of the feather as shown to give it a fluffy look.

Try to stick to the same angle that you took in the previous paragraph when working with the Burn tool.

7. Also fluff top part pen so that it does not stand out from the overall picture.

8. Using the Dodge tool with a high value, about 80 or higher, draw vertical line in the center of the pen - this will be the rod.

The line does not need to be drawn along the entire length from top to tip.

It would also be a good idea to reduce the size of the tool when the line reaches the bottom of the pen.

Click on the picture to view the image in full size and 100% quality.

9. Using a Burn tool half the size you chose for the Dodge tool, draw another vertical line along the previous one, slightly overlapping its edges.

10. Having again reduced the size of the brush by half, draw another vertical line on the other side of the rod.

11. Using the Liquify filter (Filter – Liquify), stretch the edges of the pen to make them uniform.

Using a fairly large soft-edged brush, outline the main highlight and .

Using a smaller brush, outline some of the individual "hairs" of the feather.
