Vladislav Ramm wrote a song for Dima Bilan. Yana Rudkovskaya introduced her new protégé Vladislav Ramm: “It will be cool, you know me!”

The success of Android is perfectly evidenced by the fact that the current leader, Apple iOS, borrows some ideas from a free operating system. Android devices have always drawn their power from Google's cloud apps: email was linked to Gmail, apps were purchased through a Google account, calendar synced with Google Calendar, etc. Because all data is instantly saved to the cloud, which is the same looks on a tablet, phone and laptop, then every time you buy an Android gadget, all the information stays with you. The fifth generation of Apple iOS is trying to master these functions, iDevices will be tied to iCloud, there is no longer a need for a “mothership” - Mac or PC. This is usually bad news for Google.

Apple is squeezing all the juice out of the technologies it develops, so this company will become a dangerous enemy in the “cloud” field. However, Android has one feature that Apple will never replicate: openness.

Android tries its best to maintain its fame open system. Almost all components of this “operating system” are open, that is, anyone who understands programming can change it. Moreover, you can download the Android SDK (Software Development Kit - a set of applications for developers) for free, create your own Android app and publish it in Android Market. Apple Operating Systems

iOS, RIM BlackBerry OS and Windows Phone 7 are much more closed: access to their “internals” is limited, and applications must be reviewed before publication (Apple is especially known for its passion for censorship). Even the "iPad Compatible" tag will cost a pretty penny, but the new ADK (Accessories Development Kit) for Android is absolutely free. Google hopes that openness will make Android incredibly popular.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE MALWARE

Pros:

Change the appearance of your Device

Android offers much more options for change. appearance than iOS. Apple only allows you to change the desktop wallpaper, but you cannot customize icons and menus. But if you don’t like Android icons, you can replace them; if you get tired of the standard keyboard, install a new one, for example Swype.

Do it yourself!

Anyone can write Android apps, so if you come up with something cool, use App Inventor to build your idea, then share your creation with other Android users around the world. And you don’t have to be a programmer.

Get into the deep end

Android tablets and smartphones will allow you to get to the “root” - the heart - without any problems operating system. You can change the OS, remove unnecessary applications, and install those that are otherwise impossible

would be to install. You can even install full-fledged Linux on some phones.

freedom of choice

Let's be honest, the iOS operating system is only available on two devices that differ in screen size. Android is found on many phones and tablets of completely different sizes: some have keyboards, others have 8 megapixel cameras, others have built-in gamepads, and others have a clamshell form factor.

There is even a microwave oven running Android.

Minuses:

Fragmentation

Now there are two current versions of this OS, while some applications work well only in one of the versions. Phone makers have to tailor each update to their phones - if

Gingerbread came out, it’s impossible to install it on your phone right away. The next version, Cream Sandwich, should

What is Android OS on TV? In a nutshell, this is a full-fledged operating system, the interface of which has been completely redesigned for comfortable consumption of digital content: viewing photos and videos, accessing videos on YouTube, watching programs, films and TV series, accessing downloading games and applications through the Google Play Market. However, a completely logical question arises: what are the advantages or disadvantages of such a solution over conventional Smart TVs and TV BOX set-top boxes. Let's try to figure this out.

Google Services

When you turn on Smart TV on Android for the first time, you need to connect to account Google, as on any Android device. To connect to your account, you need Internet access - via WiFi, or a wired LAN network. That is, you won’t be able to simply turn it on, set up channels and start watching right away - that’s the first minus.

However, it ceases to matter immediately after logging into your account, since the user gains access to the following services:

  • Google Play Movies;
  • Google Play Music;
  • Google Play Games;
  • YouTube (with playlists, subscriptions, recommendations and other user data)

The Play Market itself has also undergone major changes for a better experience on large screens. All content is divided into categories, and it is quite easy to find what you need.

Voice search from anywhere

The OS uses voice search (like Google Now on smartphones and tablets), but is focused on video content and applications. After the user makes a voice request, the information sought will be found in the Google search engine, and YouTube videos that are somehow related to this request will be presented on the screen. The function can also recommend thematic selections of films if the user makes a corresponding request.

Games

Full-fledged toys that are available on tablets and smartphones can be downloaded to your TV. Not enough memory? You can use an external drive. Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger 2 and many other titles can be launched without having to connect the console to the screen. For comfortable control, you can use various controllers, both wired and wireless.

Chromecast

Thanks to this technology, you can select digital content on your smartphone or other mobile device, and cast it to the big screen using Chromecast.

Main advantages

This solution will be very useful for those who are accustomed to using multimedia capabilities from Google (download Android games, access Google music and movies). And all this without the need to connect a TV-Box to your TV. On a Smart TV with any other OS, there is no way to play full-fledged Android games, or buy a movie in the app store and watch it right away.

Main disadvantages

The main disadvantage in comparison with TV BOX is that the functionality of the operating system is greatly reduced, leaving only the multimedia part. That is, users who want to use a TV with a “green robot” as a computer will be disappointed.

Google Play has also been cut down: only those games and applications that are officially supported are available for download. That is, you won’t be able to download absolutely any application.

Does it make sense to buy an Android TV?

And no, if there is no need for such additions. In this case, it is better to choose a good and inexpensive smart TV, because there is no point in overpaying for unused functionality. Any smart TV can handle playing movies, TV series, videos and music.

The future of Android OS on TVs

Because the we're talking about about the system for which a lot of software is developed, you can come up with many scenarios for its use on big screen. However, there are already concepts, the essence of which is to turn Android TV into a control center smart home. The display displays various data, including video from surveillance cameras, room temperature readings and more. Using the control center, you can control climate control, control lighting, water supply to the lawn or door locking.

“The bucket is crooked and ugly”, “The iPhone is expensive and pretentious.” You come to the store, you look at the window, you don’t believe the seller, you don’t know what to buy. In the previous article, 10 advantages of devices running the Apple operating system. Now it’s the turn of the Google platform, which also has attractive points. Comparison in this format - great option get an objective picture. Now in arguments in the kitchen you can use facts, rather than kitchen utensils that come to hand.

Open Source

Although the developer community is not able to influence the development of the Android project - it is completely controlled by Google - a number of experts classify this OS as an Open Source product. In any case, the operating system is more open to third-party developers and manufacturers than iOS.

Personalization

To personalize the appearance of Android, you can install a launcher, change the lock screen, shuffle widgets, change the size of shortcuts, and install new icons. IN latest edition iOS has widgets, but they are tied to the operating system's Notification Center. Apple's operating system remains protected from user intervention.

Large selection of models

One aspect that gives Android a distinct advantage over iOS is the variety of models. Last year, Apple introduced only two new devices – iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. How many Google phones have been released over the past six months? It's not easy to calculate. Of course, among Android new products there are very often not the most successful ones, but they are also designed for users with a limited budget, which is prohibitively far for Apple. As for flagship devices with advanced hardware, these are Samsung Galaxy S6, Sony Xperia Z4, HTC One M9, LG G4. And this is just the tip of the iceberg, because you can dig deeper by remembering Chinese brands.

Multiple accounts support

Android supports multiple accounts on one device. Each owner of a smartphone or tablet has ample opportunities to customize their gadget, including creating and deleting user accounts. A person can, say, add a child's account to a device with limited access to applications.

SD card slot

Many Android devices support Micro SD memory cards, which makes it easier to transfer data from your phone to your computer, making it faster and more productive. In addition, if necessary, the available gigabyte capacity can be easily expanded, opening up more possibilities for storing the necessary information. The user can easily increase the basic memory capacity of the smartphone by 64 or even 128 GB.

Replaceable battery

The advantages of Android devices over the iPhone include an easily replaceable battery. The debate over which is better, a built-in or replaceable battery, has been going on for years. A replaceable battery is vital for travelers who go for weeks without access to electricity. In addition, it can be used to emergency reboot your smartphone. If necessary, a removable battery allows you to install a more capacious battery into your smartphone.

Remote control support

Android smartphones offer a number of features that are not typical for phones on other platforms. Among them is a built-in IR sensor, which provides the ability to use a smartphone as a remote control, suitable for almost every TV, cable box or home theater.

Custom firmware

Having received root rights, an Android user can install various complex applications, overclock the smartphone’s processor, remove pre-installed software, and also install custom firmware on the device, which significantly expands its capabilities. Moreover, with the correct firmware, you can quickly correct the shortcomings of the factory platform. The iPhone cannot boast of anything like this.

Uploading files via browser

Android in this sense is closer to desktop operating systems than iOS. Using Google phones, you can download any files from the Internet, be it documents, musical compositions or movies. All this is true for torrent clients as well.

Fast charging

Many Android devices support fast charging technology. As a result, 10 minutes spent with a smartphone on the power adapter can provide up to 4 hours of battery life. Modern technology Quick Charge 2.0 is supported by select Snapdragon chips. For fast charging, just purchase an appropriate power adapter.

conclusions

On the Android side there are many free applications, loyal attitude on the part of the developer, wide choose devices. This is where its weaknesses lie - often the gap between budget handsets and flagships fuels the stereotype that the platform is “slow” and “Android is inconvenient.”

iOS, in turn, leaves the impression of a more holistic mobile OS: it has an impressive library of useful applications, a wide variety of accessories and a good camera. It also speaks very well for Apple. serious attitude to device security and firmware updates. The disadvantages are the price, which creates the image of a closed pseudo-elite club, the lack of deeper system settings and expensive cloud services.

Before purchasing a new tablet or smartphone, the buyer always has to make a difficult choice: Android or iOS. As a result, each user makes a choice based on his own beliefs and advice from those users who have already tried these systems.

This review will conduct comparative analysis iOS and Android.

We hope that this will help many users determine what will be more practical and convenient for them. This article will present only adequate criticism. We will also not consider some technical subtleties, such as volume random access memory or processor parameters. We can talk about these characteristics forever.

Mobile environment

When choosing a smartphone or tablet in 2014, the main criteria that users take into account when choosing were not at all specifications processor or camera. For an advanced user, the main requirement was the mobile ecosystem. This concept refers to the potential for creating new applications. In this sense, the Android operating system is significantly inferior to iOS.

The most active users of tablets and smartphones today are owners of Apple devices. For this reason, developers of all today's popular applications focus their attention on the iOS system. Only after this all applications and games finally reach Android and Windows mobile systems. For example, about 90% of all users of the Wheely application are owners of Apple devices. Another issue is that there really aren't that many such advanced users. That's why Android leads in sales.

Data transfer and FLASH technologies

If you find a user using a gadget based on Android OS and ask him why he made this choice, then in 95% of cases the answer will be: “Because you can download the game via USB.” This is an undoubted advantage of this system. Android users don't need to install apps like iTunes. You just need to connect the device to your personal computer and transfer everything you need to it: games, music, pictures and other files.

Today, many users are already accustomed to the fact that music does not necessarily need to be purchased in online stores. You can simply download it from the Internet. We will not discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this approach. It is only worth noting that the quality of licensed content is an order of magnitude higher. Today, iOS and Android are at the same level in the use of Flash technologies. Just a year ago, iOS was seriously behind Android.

Design and interface

We continue our comparative analysis of iOS and Android. If you have not yet decided on the choice of device, let’s continue the struggle. Today it is quite widely believed that the iPhone is chosen by the rich and successful people. There is a deal of truth in it. The iPhone is quite popular among businessmen, not because it is in fashion today, but because it is quite convenient. This saves a lot of time and effort. Thanks to the nice design, spending time with the gadget is quite convenient. Nothing will distract you from your work process. You will be able to write emails, communicate via in social networks or just work with applications. No glitches or system failures will distract you from your work.

Apple's software looks as great as the device itself. Android devices don't have as attractive a design as iOS devices. Apple products look equally good in the palm of a schoolchild and in the hand of a businessman. Additionally, iOS devices have a more attractive interface. Even Android fans won't be able to object here. All applications on iOS look more beautiful than on Android. Try to compare the two devices when choosing in a store, and you will immediately feel the difference. Sometimes even the icons of the same applications look different. On Android they look more blurry. Applications work on different platforms almost identically, because their hardware is almost no different. The debate here is “which is better?” not appropriate.

Strength

Which device can stay operational longer: iOS or Android? At this point, Apple wins. Due to the fact that the company devotes a lot of time and effort to developing the design of its devices, the gadgets work much more stable than their competitors. But the appearance of brakes when using smartphones based on Android has already become commonplace.

In this sense, the apple system is much better. Devices with the prefix “i” work for several years without brakes. The user will have to reinstall the Android system several times during use. If we discuss these devices from a repair point of view, then repairing an Android-based device is much easier. These gadgets are in every sense better prepared for repair work.

The Android system has to be reinstalled much more often, but it is installed without much difficulty. But to perform such an operation on an Apple device, the user will need a lot of time and effort. An Android user does not have to wait for a message after updating the firmware that his system is unlicensed. On Android more freedom actions. For some, this factor may be decisive. Others are willing to put up with some inconvenience for the sake of stable work.

Summarizing

From the review it is clear that the choice between Android and iOS is not so simple. In iOS, the user is given less freedom of action. It will be easier for the owner of an Android device to customize the gadget to suit their requirements. You can change a number of device settings. However, not all users need this feature. For those who do not need to know all the intricacies of a gadget's functionality, Apple products are more suitable.

There is no single operating system that is flawless, this applies to both desktop and mobile operating systems. If there was an ideal, there would not be so much controversy. Even my beloved Android OS is not without its shortcomings. With each new version There are fewer and fewer of them, but they still exist. I’ll try to remember the main ones so that after a while we can together check off the corrected items.

Preface

Once upon a time, in March 2010. I sold my first Android smartphone. It was an HTC Hero with Android 1.5 pre-installed. Before the sale, I managed to use it for three months. I was incredibly demanding and after three months I returned to Symbian. At the same time, I described the disadvantages of the OS that were relevant to me at that time. This article can be found on several resources by simply typing in Google the query “Cons of Android”.

I am glad that after some time (and this is not even a year), many of the disadvantages are now absent. No new ones have been added, so I’ll just remember those that remain and those that I forgot about last time. This is not an attempt to dissuade you from using the OS, no. I consider Android one of the most promising (if not the most). And I’m not going to run anywhere myself. Just a statement of facts.

The cons are in no particular order.

Let's get started

  1. Alert tones. There is still no sane menu in which I can set my own (not from the list of standard) melodies, ringtones, SMS, alarm clock, etc.
  2. There are no folders in the menu. One of the main disadvantages, since when there are dozens of applications, they all lie in one mass in the menu and finding something is sometimes not an easy task. Desktops and widgets partially save the day, but grouping in the menu is needed. There is third-party software that can do this, but we are talking about standard Android capabilities.
  3. Email attachments. Android works great with mail (especially Gmail), but not with attachments. The thing is, if you need to add more than one file to the body of the letter, you will have to select each one separately. Now imagine a fairly standard situation. You need to attach 10 documents that are along the path: Documents/Work/2010/September/More/… Have you submitted? Each file must be attached separately by following this path. But there is no mailer in which you could simply select all the files for sending, which is strange. And it's very inconvenient.
  4. Screenshots. Everything is clear here, you need to get Root rights to take screenshots. Why is that?
  5. Energy consumption. Hardly anyone would argue that Android is quite resource-hungry. Yes, the components have a big impact, but the OS can also be more economical.
  6. This problem is not specific to the entire OS, but users have to deal with it. Due to the fact that many devices are built on Android, manufacturers simply do not have time to update the software and some devices still use Android 1.6. Developers are also inconvenienced by such a variety of screen resolutions, hardware capacities and different OS versions. The fact is that all these factors are many and different, but the software should work equally well everywhere.
  7. I still haven’t found an Android device that could support the Internet (GPRS/EDGE) during normal telephone conversation. These are limitations of the hardware, not the operator. The E-series from Nokia has had this capability for a long time; I once even shot a short video (link) of how it works.
  8. The Market is part of Android, which means its shortcomings can also be mentioned. And the main thing is the lack of filtration. It’s sad, but more than half of the applications in the Market are junk. There are all sorts of materials for adults, hundreds of fakes and belches. On the one hand, developers, it’s easier for them to add software. On the other hand, we, we have to sort it out.
  9. There is still no sane application installer on a memory card. Starting from Android 2.2, this is easier to do, but third-party software is still required.
  10. For some, the disadvantage is the lack of customizable profiles (meeting, at work, loud, silent, etc.). There is only switching to silent mode or vibration. I have enough, but still.
  11. Due to the openness of the platform, it is more vulnerable, but this is rather prejudice. But with open root access, your personal data can become truly accessible.
  12. So far it’s not the most convenient phone book, if only due to the lack of groups.
  13. Lack of a standard note-taking solution. We just have to wait until Google buys the Catch service.
  14. Sometimes even a bare Android, not loaded to the brim with applications, is conceived in completely standard places: locking, scrolling, etc.

Despite these shortcomings, Android has many more advantages, do not forget about it. But I repeat once again, there is no ideal OS.

If I forgot something, remind me. Also, if I’m really wrong somewhere, please explain and I’ll remove the point. Once again, this is not a criticism of Android, but just another review. I'm glad that the developers are so actively developing the OS and that with each new update there are fewer and fewer disadvantages!
