The history of the emergence of new puppet characters

The American company MATTEL, which produces toys for boys and girls, as well as their parents, that they didn’t get enough of in childhood, has long and successfully made magnificent items that you want to play with all your life. It was this company that invented Barbie, which triumphantly passed through girls' fantasies on all continents. In the middle of the 20th century, thanks to a contract with Disneyland, Mattel released graceful Disney heroines in chic outfits. Already in our century, dolls appear that have driven today's five and fifteen-year-old girls crazy, the horror of parents and the object of desire of their daughters - characters from "Monster School" . And so, in 2013, new characters appear: Monster High student Cupid runs away to find herself in another world - bright, beautiful and happy - in the School “Happily Ever After” - Ever After High

New heroes, new fairy tale...

The characters of Ever After High must learn all sorts of fairy tale wisdom, but before that, take an oath that they will repeat the story of their parents so that the fairy tales do not end. And if Snow White’s daughter Apple White agrees to take this oath, then Raven Queen, whose mother was the Evil Queen, absolutely does not want to repeat her parents’ fate. You can find out what came out of this confrontation by watching the cartoon and, of course, play or re-create your story by ordering one of the dolls - Ever After High.

The first dolls were available for purchase in the fall of 2013. wonderful Apple White, with a plump, gentle face and a wave of stunning hair, as befits the daughter of Snow White. Her roommate, but by no means her friend, Raven Queen, despite her far from good origins, looks the most charming. Her magnificent hair, outfits, shoes in black and purple tones, and even fishnet tights on graceful legs do not leave any schoolgirl indifferent primary classes, nor an avid collector! If you're looking for a gift for a girl, it's hard to find a better one than Raven Queen. Although, of course, lovers of blondes will argue with this. After all, Blondie Locks, the daughter of Goldilocks, who appeared among the MATTEL dolls just a few months ago, has already amazed all lovers of tenderness and romantic outfits.

Blondie and Apple's friend is the beauty Briar Beauty, although she is the daughter of Sleeping Beauty, she is by no means a sleepy girl, but a bright beauty in charming pink dresses. If she changes the length of her outfits or pink to purple shade, then he will never hide his royal bearing. By the way, about shoes: the most beautiful ones are, of course, worn by Ashlyn Ella, Cinderella’s daughter. It’s not for nothing that her friend Hunter doesn’t leave her side – they wouldn’t steal such beauty after 12 hours ticking on her purse!

Crisis 2016/2017. Will the Ever After High doll series end?

All doll fans Monster High and Ever After High in Last year They note that something wrong is clearly going on with their favorite dolls. Mattel crisis? Refocusing on new versions of reboot?

News 2018: The Monster High line is also closed.

Monster High. 2017.

What's going on with the dolls anyway?

Why have dolls changed so much, why have they become so simpler, why do new releases no longer please their fans? This is especially true for EAH dolls, although not everything is going smoothly for MH either.

To understand what place the Monster High and Ever After High lines occupy in the doll world, we must remember a few things:

  • Series Monster High dolls at one time was created to enter the doll market with intense competition in the mid-2000s, when fashion dolls wore super-short skirts, began to wear incredibly stylish outfits, show provocatively bright makeup, etc.
  • The Monster High line grew at the time and flourished in the doll market, being loved by doll collectors, which meant a stir among parents, children and adult collectors on social media.

Wanting to make money on a series of collectible dolls, Mattel was looking for a way to expand the audience of potential buyers, but Monster High were quite unique, hence the decision to introduce new line, Ever After High. So, Ever After High dolls were presented to the public, and the site was called The Village Of Bookend, the theme and characters clearly had hints of Monster High. During the 2013 summer campaign, Don't Fear The Year 2013, Monster High once again focused on Cupid (the character remained unused in Monster High and migrated to Ever After High, thereby linking the two lines of dolls in the minds of fans). We can say for sure that at least about half of the collectors then reacted to the new franchise as to the continuation of Monster High.

Ever After High has a softer theme, less shocking concepts that are hard to accept, these dolls don't have a heavy impact on parents, the fairytale accents of the new characters were easy to accept. All this is a plus high quality dolls (like Monster High) contributed to the success of EAX dolls in this market.

Ever After High seemed to be thriving, but then the line's success took a hit when we saw sharp deterioration quality of dolls in 2014: Ever After dolls appeared without joints, and it was blow. Perhaps sales did not live up to expectations and Mattel then decided to make the dolls more affordable and cheaper. Why was this decision made, where did these so-called It’s impossible to say simplified “budget” dolls, but they appeared - and that’s a fact. And that was bad.

The market is undergoing a change in direction, and old consumers are no longer buying these dolls because they have something to compare with. And getting new fans today... it's incredibly difficult.

Perhaps the biggest problem is the fact that Disney monopolized fairy tales V public consciousness: All people by default believe in the Disney versions, which, combined with the arrival of Disney dolls on the market, means a completely different era in the history of dolls. The focus on fashion dolls is gone. Now the trend is fairy-tale dolls, and here Disney is ahead of everyone.

When Mattel lost the license for Disney princesses, they probably realized how important their development of fairy-tale dolls, the Ever After High line, was now for them, because there was a need for princess dolls in the market. But this market is already quite well filled today. Unfortunately, the existence of Ever After High dolls has always been fragile and shaky, and today they are further development becomes extremely doubtful. Most likely, to the great chagrin of all fans of this line of dolls, we can say that the company is unlikely to be able to do anything here to correct the current situation, because kids want Disney princess dolls. But Mattel does not and cannot have them, because there is no license. And that's the point.

IN ideal world Mattel will maintain this Ever After franchise as a kind of "milestone" halfway between the more winning lines of dolls (between Monster High and Barbie), as a cross between gaming and collectible dolls. But that's a question. This is ideally possible.

Mattel as a company today is going through a very difficult period of time (2016 was a bad year), they have already fired a lot of people (in some departments there is only one person left, instead the whole group developers who were there before...).

Mattel wants to bring the Disney doll line back into their portfolio, but they know it's nearly impossible if they continue with their Ever After High doll line. According to some reports, there are only a few people left in the Ever After High department today... And will these dolls continue to exist? big question, because even the more successful Monster High line today is also very hard times...

Combining several stories is always interesting, especially when the “work” is approached responsibly. There were such examples in cinema and animation, when out of several famous stories they did one thing, as noted, with the proper attitude of the creators, everything turned out to be exciting and colorful. “Monster High and Ever After High: The Lost Movie” is a mixture of two famous animated projects, a school of monsters and a school of children fairy tale characters. At the same time, the cartoons from these two series are really popular, successful and of high quality. In terms of quality, they can be called equivalent and it turns out that this is a “mixture” of two equal projects. We can already say that something large-scale, colorful and attractive in many ways should come out. I even want to praise the idea itself, even if the cartoon itself is 100 percent successful.

If we talk separately about Monster High and Ever After High, then in the first school the main characters are the children of monsters (the daughter of Dracula, a werewolf, a sea monster, and so on). They have their own characters and views on life, they often get into adventures and troubles and then get out of them colorfully. They are monsters, but the heroes do not evoke horror and fear; on the contrary, they are liked and attracted. Now the second school (happily ever after). As noted, children are trained there fairy-tale heroes, both good and bad. And they will have to repeat the fates of their ancestors, a character with a good pedigree will remain good, and the offspring bad heroes will remain bad. If you look at it, this is a deprivation of choice and many will disagree with this situation. And there and there there are a lot of bright heroes, both there is real excitement, so the cartoon “Monster High and Ever After High: The Lost Movie” is sure to work. The original mixture is there, then everything just needs to be coolly developed and skillfully played.
