How to choose winter clothes for a child. How to choose winter outerwear for a child

A long time ago, overalls for children were stuffed with one or two insulating materials. Basically, children wore fur coats and “didn’t show off.” Everything is changing, our life has become more intense, faster, brighter. Requires a sporty attitude towards walks: the child is not just put outside to breathe indoor plant, it lays claim to active action and an eco-friendly existence inside clothing.

Manufacturers of sports and travel clothing use a variety of synthetic materials as insulation. Almost all of them came from synthetic padding polyester. It has been experimentally established that jackets and sleeping bags made of thick synthetic padding quickly deteriorate: they clump when washed, do not keep warm, and the body in them, as a tourist or athlete would like, does not breathe, but fogs up. Sintepon conducts air poorly and retains heat poorly.

New insulation materials have appeared: holofiber, Thinsulate, Fibertek... And clothes for children have appeared that use these insulation materials. What to prefer? What will a child wear for sure and definitely not freeze? The advantage of synthetic insulation is that they are hypoallergenic, they do not harbor microorganisms (mites, etc.), and clothes with various “fibers” (“fiber” is translated as “fiber”) inside hold their shape better and do not deform from washing, Keeps you warm and doesn't let cold air in.

So, let's deal with insulation without going into highly scientific jungle. Let's consider aspects that are interesting to the average consumer who wants to dress their child comfortably.

Rule number one!

Don't be impressed by an obscure name. The manufacturer, trying to capture the attention of the consumer, comes up with its own (trade) names for insulation materials. You need to carefully look at the label on the clothing itself. It shows what materials were used for the outer fabric, lining and padding. Don’t be surprised if you see the inscription: “insulation - 100% polyester.” And where, you know, is that “fiberskin” or “polyfiber”? Polyester is an illiterate reading English word polyether (polyester). In our country the name “lavsan” is accepted. Almost any synthetic insulation consists of polyester fibers. Thus, on the label you will read what the material for the insulation is made of, and more detailed instructions or a sales consultant should tell you what the insulation itself is called, what technology it is made of, and what this technology provides. Products from reputable companies have a special booklet where all the materials are described in detail and their qualities are indicated.

Rule number two!

Indicate strict preferences in choosing clothes and remember what it is like for your child outside in winter (not for you or his grandmother, but for him). Is everything good with his thermoregulation? Is there such a thing as cold feet syndrome? How often does it get cold? 80% of childhood colds are not to blame for the immune system, but for parents who do not know how to dress their child. As the classic said: there is no bad weather, but there are poorly dressed people, in the case of children - incorrectly dressed. For example, a child who often suffers from colds should never be re-wrapped, and it is absolutely forbidden to wear thick hats and tie tight scarves. I will catch colds even more often. Not a single seller will be able to explain to you whether your child will freeze in just such clothes. All new generation synthetic fillers work on the same principle: they retain heat well. Look for (ask) an indicator of the permissible temperature (up to -10° or up to -40°).

Rule three and most important!

Remember that it is not the insulation that heats, but the air in its cavities. The lighter the fibers, the more cavities inside, the lower the temperature at which these clothes can be used. The best thermal insulator is air.

The label on a real down jacket should say “down”. This means that the fluff inside is eider, swan or goose. 100% “down” is quite rare. Most often, feathers are added to it and written “feather”. If the label says “cotton”, this is not a down jacket, but just a lined jacket. The inscription “wool” indicates that there is wool batting inside this jacket, and the word “polyester” or “waltern” refers to padding polyester or its modern varieties.

Types of insulation

Sintepon

Sintepon is divided into two types: old (dense) and new (hollow). Both are made from polyester fibers. Bonding of fibers to each other is carried out thermally. Previously, synthetic winterizer was laid in parallel layers. Because of this, it had very low performance in terms of heat conservation and moisture conductivity. Nowadays, dense padding polyester (thick, adhesive) is used only in cheap products. In the new padding polyester, the fibers are not glued together, but seem to be held together with the help of silicone needles. This insulation is more durable and does not lose its shape. But still, synthetic winterizer continues to yield to modern inventions. After exposure to sweat and washing, it loses up to half its thickness. And for cold winter it is not suitable - maximum, for temperatures down to -10°. Therefore, it is better to buy overalls based on padding polyester for the mid-season. Very few modern companies now produce children's winter clothes on padding polyester: some domestic factories, as well as companies from China and Poland. Our manufacturers in most cases order tailoring from China.

Care: wash at 30°C, using only soft powders that do not contain bleaching agents; do not soak or bleach.

Thinsulate

Considered one of the best insulation materials in the world this moment, in its heat-saving properties is equal to down. Consisting of very fine fibers that retain heat excellently, overalls and jackets made with Thinsulate are light, thin and warm. Does not deform when washed, can warm you in severe frosts. Thinsulate clothing is made for athletes, oil workers, and climbers. Thinsulate clothing is usually not cheap. Permissible temperature range for Thinsulate: up to -30°. Thinsulate-based children's clothing is produced by Ketch (Sweden). If you know others, please write in the comments to this article.

Care: machine wash with spin at 40°.

Holofiber, fiberskin, fibertech, polyfiber, isosoft...

Synthetic insulation made from fibers shaped like balls, springs, etc. Balls, spirals or springs do not communicate with each other and contain cavities, so the product holds its shape well. Clothing with holofiber or fibertek is not very expensive, it turns out to be a price-quality ratio: for a small price you buy nice jumpsuit, which can withstand frosts down to -25°.

It makes no sense to compare clothes made from isosoft or holofiber: they have almost the same characteristics in terms of heat retention.

It cannot be said that all new synthetic fillers are like twins. Each filler is made using a special technology. But the consumer should not bother himself with scientific data; let’s leave it for the professionals. The description of any of the listed fillers will be as follows: “a synthetic insulation consisting of hollow and thin elastic fibers.

Thin fibers retain volume. Doesn’t absorb moisture, breathes.” Manufacturers themselves most often indicate in the product instructions: “insulation - 100% polyester, made according to the latest technologies" That's all. And no “super fibers”.

It happens that manufacturers use a combination of different insulation materials or a combination of insulation materials and a membrane; this allows them to register the trade name of the “new” insulation material. In terms of its properties, it will still differ little from the known ones.

Topsfill- ultra-light high-tech modern insulation. Provides free air circulation, thanks to which children's clothing “breathes”.

Holofiber and Fibertek- These are synthetic insulation materials - down substitutes. These insulation materials are made from hollow siliconized fibers that have the appearance of a spiral in space. This microstructure (in padding polyester the fiber has a straight structure) allows it to perfectly retain and restore its shape after various deformations. Hollow fibers retain heat excellently. Fibertek and holofiber are much more hygienic than natural and some other synthetic insulation materials, they are moisture resistant and are “breathable” materials. These are environmentally friendly, anti-allergenic, non-toxic insulation materials that do not harbor microbes.

Isosoft- modern synthetic insulation, which consists of spherical fibers. The balls are separated from each other by cavities and therefore the isosoft product holds its shape well - it does not deform and heat (one layer of isosoft retains heat as well as 3-4 layers of padding polyester). Clothes made with modern synthetic insulation are not very expensive, resulting in an optimal price-quality ratio: low price - warm and comfortable winter clothing that can withstand temperatures of -25C.

Care: machine wash with minimal spin at 40°. It is better to dry it inside out.

Children's overalls on polyester: Shaluny (isosoft, Russia), Etti-Detti (isosoft, Russia), Kerry (isosoft, Finland), Donilo (holofiber, Russia), Gusti (isosoft, Canada), Gloria Jeans (polyfiber, Russia), Tilson (isosoft, Norway), Lemmi (fiberskin, Germany), Reima (isosoft, Finland), Lenne (isosoft, Estonia).

Membrane

Membrane - this is either the thinnest film that is laminated (welded or glued using a special technology) to the upper fabric, or a special impregnation applied to the fabric.

WITH inside the film or impregnation can be protected by another layer of fabric.

What is the principle of operation of membranes? They have a structure in the form of a film with tiny pores. Therefore, the drop simply does not pass through them. Membrane clothing must be waterproof and breathable. A layer of water on the outer fabric will prevent the membrane from working, no matter how cool it is.

By the way, contrary to the opinion that membrane clothing is the best option for athletes and hikers, the professionals themselves do not seek to use it. In a heavy downpour, the membrane fabric will inevitably get wet, and the same will happen if an ice crust forms on the clothes. The membrane helps wick away moisture as you move.

Therefore, for passive walks, you need to choose clothes with insulation or a membrane + insulation combination. Membrane clothing under the Gore-Tex and Sympatex brands has proven itself better than others. These brands are nothing more than a patented name for a membrane made using special technologies.

It is not recommended to wear overalls with one membrane on long walks at temperatures below -15° and in snowfalls. The membrane will freeze and stop “breathing”. For a child under 1-1.5 years old, it makes no sense to buy a suit with a membrane if it most takes walks in a stroller.

Care: it is highly advisable to use special powders to treat fabric with a membrane. When washing, you should not use bleach or powders with bleach, and also set high spin speeds. Ideally, squeeze better with your hands. You can't iron it. Sometimes clothing with a membrane has taped seams for better water resistance, in which case the wipe-on format is suitable for washing. However, manufacturers write that the membrane becomes greasy over time, so you need to wash the membrane, just without being too zealous.

Children's overalls with a “clean” membrane: Reimatec (Finland), LassieTec (Finland), Ketch Babyoverall Teddy, Ketch Ski overall (Sweden).

Natural insulation materials

Goose down

A luminary among insulation materials. Lightweight, durable, withstands very coldy, restores shape after creasing. The down of waterfowl has a natural lubricant that prevents moisture from being absorbed. Most best fluff: eider, then comes goose. Duck down clothing is the cheapest and is not intended for cold weather. A properly sewn item lined with natural down weighs no more than half a kilogram and, when folded, can easily fit into a standard plastic bag. Unfortunately, down is a very allergenic material, an ideal breeding ground for mites. Down clothes take a long time to dry. If you buy a down jumpsuit (envelope) for our Ural winter (not for moving to the north), remember that an active child outside will definitely be hot in it at temperatures above -15°. A doll in a down envelope will also have a hard time if winter produces the same demi-season temperatures as last year. Down products from well-known companies, as a rule, are of very high quality; it is unlikely that down will escape from them when proper care, but they are also quite expensive.

Care: to ensure that the product retains its appearance longer, resort to full washing of the product less often. It is recommended to wash on a soft cycle with a detergent without bleach at 30°. Machine washable. After washing, immediately dry and “break” the pockets with fluff so that it does not fall off. You can't iron it. Only machine drying for several hours at low temperatures is recommended.

Children's overalls with down: Il Gufo (Italy), O'Hara (Canada), Chicco (Italy), Premaman (Belgium). Arctiline (Russia), Zera (Spain).

Wool

Or the so-called sheepskin. Very durable, wear-resistant material. Microbes do not like wool, so it is considered a hypoallergenic insulation. Retains heat perfectly down to -25°. It happens that the overalls are equipped with a removable sheep wool lining, this is convenient for suspicious parents who think that the child is cold. The lining allows you to turn the jumpsuit into a demi-season option. Due to their considerable weight, sheepskin overalls are now produced mainly only for children under one year old.

Care: clothes with sheepskin can become deformed from washing, so it is better to dry clean them.

Top coating

Ideally, the outer fabric of the overalls should allow air to pass through well and repel water. The instructions included with the overalls (or your sales assistant) will tell you about this. It is advisable that the seams in the clothing be taped. Most often, the outer covering is made of polyamide treated with some composition, in this case the fabric is durable and “breathable”.

!High-quality winter overalls made from fabric that meets these conditions should not be washed at temperatures above 40° and should not be used with bleach powders!

Materials for external coatings

The most famous are “cordura” and “nylon polyester” fabrics impregnated with Teflon. Cordura is a high-strength polyamide designed for extremely harsh conditions operation. The surface of the fabric is protected by treatment with Teflon®. Cordura material is completely waterproof.

Cordura inserts on the knees and butt of overalls and trousers increase the durability and waterproofness of the garment.

Teflon® - water-repellent impregnation, provides protection against rain and snow.

Nylon Polyester is a soft and very light blend fabric. It is based on the interweaving of two threads of different structure. Thanks to this, a “chameleon” effect is created: the fabric shimmers.

Nowadays, companies use high-strength materials for sewing products. However, if a child always rolls down slides or rolls around in other ways during a walk, it is quite possible that the fabric will not hold up. “Bedsores” and abrasions form.

Many people ask why shell out a lot of money for the same Reimu. Most often, the point is precisely the stability of the top coating: the more complex the technology ( high degree waterproofness, stability), the higher the price.

Lining

For its manufacture, materials such as nylon, cotton and fleece are used.

Fleece is a synthetic wool that does not absorb moisture, but conducts it and retains heat well. There is regular fleece, and there is high-quality fleece - for example, Polartec. Unlike natural fabrics (cotton), good fleece provides the necessary ventilation when overheated and removes condensation outside.

Fleece will only work if you wear thermal underwear or a synthetic T-shirt underneath it.

Many years ago, parents were afraid of synthetics. It was believed that a child should wear clothes made from natural fabrics. Modern synthetics are not the same as those of yesterday. It can and should be used for the best comfort in winter. The fleece may also contain a membrane.

Care: fleece is washed at a temperature not exceeding 40°, using synthetic or gentle wash modes. Do not iron or dry in a washing machine.

Also, the lining is made of 100% nylon, it ensures quick drying when machine washed and the product is lightweight.

How to determine if a child is cold?

The “check by the nose” myth is a distorted medical advice to “check by the bridge of the nose.” Remember that for a child to function normally nervous system and immunity in general, it is better to be hypothermic than to overheat.

A child does NOT freeze if he is outside in winter:

Cool (not icy) nose and cheeks (in winter the air is cold, actually)

Cool (not icy) hands, back and butt (the butt does not get hot of its own free will, especially in girls due to natural characteristics)

A child is OVERHEATED if he has:

When walking, your face is always warm, but outside it’s below -8°

Too warm, almost hot back and neck

Very warm hands (arms and legs, these are special parts of the body that, due to the characteristics of blood circulation, should be at “room” temperature)

How to determine if you are frozen?

Around the neck, although this is not entirely correct. Along the bridge of the nose and the arm above the hand.

Icy feet (check to see if your shoes are too small or tight, this promotes hypothermia)

Experience shows that a child will not remain silent if he is cold. if he “doesn’t notice”, it means he’s feeling good.

Winter overalls for children up to one year old

If your child cannot walk yet, a transformable onesie is ideal for him. This is a “2x1” jumpsuit; with a slight movement of the hand it can be made into either a bag or separate legs. You can quickly undress and dress your child using the “bag”. Experienced mothers know how difficult it is to hold a baby in a “bag” in an upright position; the transformer allows you to “make legs” in time.

For a child under one year old, choose a onesie made of sheepskin, down or polyester. It is important that the pressure on the back is perfectly even, so sets (separate overalls) are not suitable for “sleeping” walks.

Down onesies are normal, but not the best option for a child under one year old. Cheap fluff will actively crawl through the fabric, providing a high-quality breeding ground for mites. Even if it doesn’t fit, the down suit has a lot of holes made sewing needle. Through these holes moisture enters from both sides. This also contributes to the development of microorganisms and, as a result, increased allergenicity of the product.

If you already have a jumpsuit with trouser legs, a whole bag with down or sheepskin will be useful for a newborn in winter. It is convenient to use it for sleeping on the balcony, and on the street - for a maximum of a month and a half. Then the child will have the right to ask where his arms and even legs are. It is better to buy an envelope with sleeves.

Children crammed into a closed stroller box and a sheepskin envelope in winter weather down to -10° evoke deep sympathy. The current winters are quite mild, everyone probably remembers the shameless green grass on the lawns last December-January.

We put on a knitted blouse under a down suit or envelope - this is the maximum in any frost (the stroller box protects from the wind).

Under a suit made of polyester (isosoft, etc.) we wear clothes with a mixture of synthetics.

And don’t forget about such a wonderful invention as fleece overalls and sets. They can be worn for walks in cold weather.

When buying a transforming suit, pay attention to the quality of the zippers: it is desirable that the zippers are on the sides and can be easily unfastened. Typically, the transformer comes with fur booties and mittens: be sure to try fastening them in the store so that you don’t encounter problems with tight buttons at home. It is advisable that the structure of the overalls allows you not to use a scarf.

Transformable overalls are produced by the following companies: Etti-Detti (isosoft, Russia), Kids Comfort (sheepskin + padding polyester, Russia), Arktika (sheepskin, Russia), KIKO (sheepskin, Russia), Chicco (down, Italy).

Winter overalls for children over one year old

Choosing a suit for active walks or for the “stroller + active walk” option.

1. The set or jumpsuit should not be thick. Leave this cute delusion to the grandmothers. Four layers of padding polyester retain heat much worse than one layer of isosoft or polyfiber. When moving, the child will sweat; this is a normal reaction of the body. Sweat is easily absorbed into the fabric. As soon as a child stops or sits in a stroller after running, he will instantly freeze, despite the five sweaters under his jacket.

2. Ideally, for a running child, you need to choose a jumpsuit made of waterproof and windproof fabric with taped seams. The lining is made of synthetics, it does not absorb body moisture. The structure of the overalls should allow you not to use a scarf. A scarf is the worst gift for a sore throat. In young children, the body is designed in such a way that an uneven flow of blood to any part of the body - and even in the cold - leads to illness. These diseases, ranging from innocent colds, haunt children wearing thick hats and thick scarves. The most “stressful” areas of clothing (butt, knees, shoulders - they have to withstand pressure and friction, and the shoulders often freeze) should be additionally insulated or reinforced with some kind of material. A good hood has a drawstring along the front edge that allows you to retain heat. Be sure to check whether the straps of the semi-overall are well adjusted. There should be elastic bands or cuffs on the sleeves of the jacket and on the trousers.

3. Set or one-piece suit? Advantages of the set: the ability to take off the jacket in the store or in the car. You can buy a second overall for the jacket; you can take it with you to your shift: if a child gets his pants dirty with dirty snow, the jacket will most likely remain clean. Advantages of the suit: speed. It is difficult to pack a fidgety child into a kit. Choose for yourself.

When choosing winter overalls for a child, pay attention to:

* Clasps. They should be reliable and comfortable, easy to fasten and unfasten.
* Sleeves. They should have an elastic band or an inner cuff. There must be cuffs - they not only protect the child from snow, but can also warm his hands. It is better if there are loops for mittens on the sleeves; if there are none, make them yourself.
* Pants legs. They should also have a cuff. It’s also very convenient if they have straps. If they are not there, sew them on yourself - this way the pants will not “bounce” up.
* Hood. It should be spacious enough to accommodate the hat. A tightening drawstring is required.
* Outer fabric – it is better if it is waterproof, windproof, durable and easy to clean.
* Insulation. They are different, and the quality of the product largely depends on this.
* The jumpsuit itself – it should be light and thin so that the child can move comfortably in it.

Membrane or isosoft, it doesn’t matter; clothes under overalls with non-natural filling should be made of the same non-natural fabrics. If your child froze in Reim or Shaluny, remember what you wore underneath. Any natural underwear or sweaters absorb sweat, causing hypothermia. The use of woolen items is allowed - wool also conducts moisture to the outer layers of clothing. Current knitwear in most cases already contains synthetics. If funds allow, buy thermal underwear; at temperatures below -15° we put fleece or acrylic on it.

When choosing a coat for the winter, it is worth remembering that such clothing is suitable for wearing at temperatures no colder than -15°C. If in your area the temperature drops lower in winter, then you should not choose an insulated coat as an option for everyday wear. Straight black, brown or dark gray coat With one-piece sleeve, not decorated with complex decorative elements, is ideal for business woman with a personal car. This coat can be combined not only with business suits and dresses, but also with jeans, loose-fitting dresses, as well as festive cocktail dresses.

A versatile insulated knee-length coat is the basis of any winter wardrobe.

Choosing warm down jacket for the winter, do not be tempted by cheap models from China. Of course, the price of 5-7 thousand is very attractive, but such a thing will not last more than one season, and artificial fillers will not warm you even at a temperature of -5°C. Try to choose famous brands, such as Italian Woolrich or Canadian Canada Goose. Modern materials of such down jackets not only withstand severe frosts, but also, for example, have dirt-repellent properties.

When buying a down jacket in the summer, you save from 30 to 70% of the amount.

To keep your look from looking too sporty, wear a down jacket with leather boots. flat sole or biker boots, as well as with roomy leather bags. Such accessories, unlike backpacks and UGG boots, allow you to wear a down jacket or

Is winter boring, gray everyday life or days filled with joy and fun? It all depends on how you can organize your leisure time. Go with your children to the forest, sled down a hill, build a snowman, just don’t forget to warm yourself up. How to choose winter clothes for a child so that the baby is warm, dry and comfortable?

It is impossible to clearly determine which winter clothes for children are the best. It all depends not only on the brand and material, but also on individual characteristics thermoregulation of the child. Today, the choice of outfits for babies is so huge that mothers sometimes don’t know what to buy. What should you pay attention to?

Model

  • For babies under one year old, it is better to buy an envelope: it is completely closed from the wind, giving the baby a feeling of security and comfort.
  • For children over 12 months old, the best winter clothing is overalls. It is easy to put on a child, and the baby is comfortable in it.
  • Don't know what to buy for a child who goes to kindergarten? Take a closer look at suits consisting of overalls and a jacket. And one more piece of advice: comfort is important for preschoolers, so try to buy clothes that will not restrict movement. Modern technologies allow you to create warm, but practically weightless things that perfectly retain heat. Clothes Reima, Huppa, Luhta, Icepeak, Lassie, Didriksons - you've probably heard a lot of praise about them.

Material

  • The outer fabric must be durable: not to tear, stretch or deform from temperature changes and load.
  • The outer layer must allow air to pass through, that is, allow the skin to breathe. Clothes should not so much warm as they should save heat through natural air exchange.
  • The fabric from which children's clothing is made should be easy to care for: easy to wash and dry quickly.
  • An additional layer is welcome in the area of the knees and buttocks, because these are precisely the places that “suffer” the most during walks. For example, winter overalls and Lassie trousers can withstand even the most active games kids on the street.
  • If you're choosing a jacket or overalls, look at what the lining is made of. It can be nylon, cotton or fleece. The latter will provide warmth to the baby (provided correct selection clothes below), and nylon guarantees the lightness of the product. . Modern ones are also good lining materials– fabric with small silver dots. It is used in production by leaders in the field of creating innovative clothing, for example, Columbia or Huppa, in particular the latter has a patented HuppaTec Lining technology. The action of this material is based precisely on the ability of small silvery inclusions to trap thermal radiation between the body and the fabric.

You need to pay attention to the lining not only in strategically important places, but also in the sleeves: the lighter the material, the freer the movement of the child’s hands. The same Huppa uses Taffeta fabric for these purposes - a synthetic material that is slippery to the touch.

  • Popular brands can boast of the quality of seam processing: they are not only stitched, but also taped. This is a guarantee of dryness in any weather: moisture will not be able to penetrate under the clothes through the stitches. This technology is not that new. For example, the Didriksons company has been sewing clothes with “welded seams” since 1947 and every year the developments are only improving.

Insulation

What clothes to choose for your child: insulated with time-tested natural fur or those that provide warmth modern materials? This depends on two factors: how active the baby is during a walk and how the baby’s thermoregulation center works.

  • Natural insulation materials, used in modern models, - fluff and wool. The first is represented by three types - eider (the warmest), goose and duck (not suitable for winter). Down clothes are very light, but at the same time this material is a strong allergen, so it is not suitable for all children. Sheepskin (wool) is considered a hypoallergenic material, so supporters of natural insulation prefer it. A lining or liner made of wool is good for newborn babies, but mothers of older children say that winter clothing made of sheepskin is impractical. The thing is that, despite its high threshold of thermal insulation, its main disadvantage is its weight: it is simply difficult for a child to run down the street in such uniforms.
  • Sintepon– synthetic material made from polyester fibers. It has long been used in sewing winter clothes and has undergone many improvements throughout its existence. However, no matter how much experts strive to increase the level of thermal insulation of synthetic winterizer, this insulation can withstand frost of no more than -10°C.
  • Holofiber and fibertek- These are artificial down substitutes. Inside they are an interweaving of siliconized spirals. Due to the voids, these materials retain heat well. Clothes made from holofiber and fibretek are very practical: the filling will not crumple after repeated washings and will retain its structure.
  • Isosoft– another modern synthetic insulation that can withstand temperatures of -25°C. Its structure is several layers of spherical fibers separated by cavities. Isosoft is suitable for active children who love to frolic on walks in winter. Leading manufacturers use similar insulation in their products, and each has its own patented technology, for example, Luhta and IcePeak use Finnwad material. The main advantage of such insulation is lightness. The clothes will not be bulky, but your child will definitely not freeze in them.
  • Membrane- also insulation, but not internal, but external. Modern mothers are very fond of membrane clothing, considering it the warmest, while forgetting the main condition for the “work” of this material - maximum movement. A membrane is a special film or impregnation applied to the outer surface of the product. Thanks to its tiny pores, it easily removes moisture from the inside, but is completely powerless against moisture from the outside. When it rains or snows, the drops will easily close the pores, and the work of the membrane will come to naught.

Comfort for the child

  • Clasps. For small children, the ideal option is zippers.
  • Sleeves. Winter children's clothing should have either a thick cuff or an elastic band at the bottom of the sleeve.
  • Pants legs. There should be an elastic band along the bottom edge to prevent snow from getting into the boots. It would be good if there was a strip at the bottom of the trouser leg.
  • Pockets. They are not necessary for the baby, but very convenient. You can put spare mittens or a handkerchief in them. When purchasing, pay attention to the location of the pockets so that snow does not accumulate in them during a walk.
  • Anti-pollution. Rolling around in the snow, getting into the mud - children love all this very much. It’s a pity if after the first walk the fidget’s clothes lose their attractive appearance. What to do? Shouldn't we go for a walk? Walk, and as much as possible. Modern winter clothing is not afraid of dirt. For example, Reima sets and overalls are made of fabric coated with a protective layer, which is absolutely safe for children and at the same time repels dirt.
  • Size. Each manufacturer has its own sizes. Conventionally, everyone adheres to the recommendation to buy sets, focusing on the child’s height and adding 6 cm to this indicator. There are clothes that grow with the child, for example, Didriksons sets and overalls: by opening the seam of the pleat on the lining, you can increase the length of the sleeves or legs.

With the onset of cold weather, many are looking for warmer clothes. And if you live in a region where winters are quite severe, then you will need the most warm clothes for winter.

What clothes do you need for a harsh winter?

  1. Outerwear. These can be sheepskin coats, fur coats, jackets, down jackets. Fur coats, jackets and sheepskin coats can save you from cold and winds. Yes and appearance quite varied. Even the most fastidious fashionistas will be able to find the right and acceptable option for themselves. If we consider winter clothing for the north, the leader here is the Columbia company. She has the warmest clothes of all manufacturers. Although these clothes are a little boring in appearance, they make up for it with quality and comfort.
  2. Insulated trousers. Excellent clothing for cold winters would be fleece or ski pants. They have special drawstrings at the bottom so that cold wind did not penetrate underneath.
  3. Warm and sweaters. Undoubtedly, clothes made of warm wool will be an excellent purchase for winter.
  4. Overalls. Many girls have already been able to appreciate this option for warm winter clothing. Some fashion brands We specially created models of stylish overalls in which you can safely walk around the city or go on a date.

How to choose winter clothes?

Of course, the main and very important criterion for the warmest winter clothing is its manufacturer. Sure, if you want to get good quality, comfort and warmth, then choose famous manufacturers. For winter clothing, these are Canadian companies that specialize in it.

When choosing clothes, be sure to check the quality of the seams and threads. There should be no through seams on such clothes. Also check all the fittings and the ease of unfastening the zippers. Never buy a warm one. It should be slightly loose. If this outerwear, then you should raise your hands up and check whether it hinders your movements.

Winter walks are a kind of test for parents. If you dress your child correctly, he will only benefit from the cool air. If you make a mistake in choosing a set of clothes, your baby can easily catch a cold.
In the cold, both hypothermia and overheating of a child’s body are dangerous: a sweaty child will almost certainly get sick. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right one for your son or daughter.

What items of clothing does a child need in winter?

What should you choose when dressing your child for the winter? A fur coat, coat, overalls or something else? Much depends on.
A newborn or a child up to six months old who sleeps in a stroller in winter will be more comfortable in a transforming overall. The practicality of such a thing is that the process of dressing the baby does not take much time.
When the baby is lying in a stroller, such overalls can be worn as an envelope bag. If you take your baby in your arms, it will be convenient for you to fasten the bag into a onesie with legs.
It is important to know that separate overalls are in no case suitable for small children, since the boundaries of the jacket and trousers will put pressure on the back of the sleeping baby.
For older children who travel sitting in a stroller and periodically go out to exercise, one-piece overalls are suitable. It is comfortable to sleep and move in such clothes: they do not restrict movement when walking and do not put pressure on the back of a sitting child.
Children who are already a year old or older can buy both one-piece and separate winter overalls. The advantage of the latter is that you can take the jacket off your child in the store or in the car.
Items of winter clothing such as fur coats or fur coats are unlikely to become good option for the winter for small children. In bulky things, babies will not be able to actively move. Also, in such clothes there is a high chance of sweating and then becoming hypothermic, which may well cause a cold.

Materials

Gone are the days when it was considered necessary exclusively for natural fabrics and materials. Progress does not stand still, and today many parents prefer synthetic children's clothing.
Unlike natural cotton or wool, synthetic materials do not absorb moisture, but conduct it while retaining heat. In addition, synthetics are good because they are more wearable, durable and can withstand heavy loads. You can be sure that a high-quality overall with a synthetic outer covering will last you a long time, despite numerous slides and diving into snowdrifts.
The most popular material used today in the manufacture of children's winter clothing is polyester. Manufacturers usually treat it with additional impregnation to achieve waterproofness and strength.
The seams on clothes made from waterproof fabric are taped in a special way. This gives the child complete protection from moisture.
The lining in modern products can be either artificial or natural material. The usual cotton or synthetic fleece - the choice is yours. It is worth knowing that fleece, unlike cotton, does not absorb moisture and retains heat better. True, for the properties of fleece to really work, it should be worn on clothes with a mixture of synthetics.

Insulation materials

Synthetic insulation. Among modern insulation materials for winter children's clothing, synthetic ones also predominate. Holofiber, Thinsulate, Polyfiber, Isosoft - these materials come from the well-known padding polyester. New materials retain heat better due to hollow elastic fibers, between which warm air collects.
It is important that modern synthetic insulation does not absorb moisture, does not crumple when washed and can last for quite a long time. In such synthetics, bacteria do not accumulate, mites do not appear, and they do not cause allergies.
Clothing with synthetic insulation is very light, does not restrict movement, but warms much better than thick cotton or synthetic overalls worn over a couple of sweaters. By and large, synthetic insulation materials are similar to each other. Their operating principle is the same: heat is retained due to the presence of cavities between thin elastic empty fibers.
Only professionals can tell the differences between insulation materials. Readers of MirSovetov will find information about the density of the insulation in the product more useful. Manufacturers often indicate this data on labels: for example, “Isosoft 330 g/sq. m". It is believed that the density is 40-70 g/sq.m. m corresponds to demi-season clothing: Warm autumn, late spring. 100-150 g/sq.m. m suitable for cold autumn or warm winter. For frosty winters, manufacturers recommend products with a density of 200-300 g/m2. m.
This information is relative, since whether a child freezes during a walk or not depends not only on weather conditions, but also on how actively he moves.
In addition, the bottom layer of clothing on the baby also plays an important role. Usually, in order for the child to be comfortable, it is enough to wear only tights and a mixed (cotton + synthetic) blouse under overalls with synthetic filling. If you are going to walk in severe frosts, a fleece or knitted outerwear made from mixed yarn will come to the rescue.
Natural insulation. Among the natural insulation materials today, goose down can be distinguished. It is still often used in quality children's clothing, however, it is no longer as popular as synthetics.
Down-filled products are suitable for children under six months of age who sleep during walks. Older children who are already active have a chance to sweat in a down onesie. It is also worth remembering that on inexpensive products, fluff often comes out, which can even lead to an allergic reaction in the baby. Therefore, when choosing winter clothes with down, you should give preference to high-quality, expensive models.
For the youngest children, overalls and sheepskin envelopes are also suitable. Wool is hypoallergenic and provides excellent warmth at temperatures down to -25 degrees. True, it is quite heavy, but you won’t feel it in the stroller.
If you decide to buy your baby an envelope or a sheepskin onesie, keep in mind that you don’t need to wear anything underneath. a large number of clothes. Sheep wool provides excellent warmth, so if you put a couple of warm blouses on your baby, he will be simply hot, given that modern winters are rarely cold.

Requirements for the quality of clothing

In addition to information about materials and insulation, when choosing children's clothing, you must also pay attention directly to its quality.
The outer material must be waterproof. It is also important that the seams on the overalls, especially for active children, are carefully taped and protected from the passage of moisture.
Pay attention to the fittings: zippers and buttons should fasten without problems. This determines how quickly you can dress your child or how easy it will be for him to dress himself.
Traditionally, when buying clothes, including winter clothes, preference should be given to well-known brands. Do not forget to look at the tag, which contains information about the material and insulation.

Convenient details

To ensure that the clothes are truly comfortable for the child and parents, it is worth paying attention to the presence of some details.
For example, these are cuffs on the legs and arms of overalls for the little ones. The lapel can be opened to reveal an arm or leg - this is necessary, for example, if the baby gradually begins to walk. If the child is just lying in the stroller, closed flaps will protect his limbs from the cold.
Hood. It's always useful to have it. This detail will protect against cold, wind, rain and snow. However, it is worth remembering that you need to wear it only when necessary, since overheating a child’s head is a direct path to a cold.
Insert covering the zipper. This is necessary to prevent cold air from passing through the zipper. There is also a convenient insert that protects the child’s neck and chin from being pinched by the zipper.
Elastic bands on the sleeves and at the bottom of the trousers will protect the baby well from wind and cold air. Also, with their help, a jumpsuit that is a little too big for a child will fit better. You won't have to roll up the sleeves or legs; they will stay in place well with elastic bands.
A necessary detail on children's winter clothing is straps that hold the trouser legs down and prevent them from rising.
It’s a good idea if the overalls have reflective details and a sign for the child’s name and surname.

Caring for winter clothes

With proper care, high-quality modern winter clothing will last a long time.
Overalls with synthetic filling are best stored flat. They can be washed, but in accordance with the temperature conditions indicated on the tag. By the way, you are unlikely to have to wash synthetic products often: if the upper material is water-repellent, you can simply wipe it with a damp cloth to remove dirt.
Goose down overalls can be washed yourself, but using the delicate wash cycle. To ensure that there are no streaks left on the surface of the overalls, you need to rinse the product twice. Dry and store - flattened.
Sheepskin envelopes or overalls should be washed using special wool powder at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees.
