Both Katy Perry and Taylor Swift were in their early 20s when they became international celebrities. In the late 2000s, Perry conquered the pop charts with the song I Kissed A Girl and strengthened her status as a young pop star, while Swift, at the same time, was the main country singer in the world and was preparing to move into the world of pop music.
At numerous social parties, Katie and Taylor constantly appeared together, the tabloids called them best friends. The singers repeatedly supported each other, Perry confessed her love for Swift’s work and for herself, they discussed in in social networks cats and shared their impressions of joint parties. The girls performed together, Perry even offered to record a song together, but this never happened.
Even the relationship couldn’t ruin the girls’ friendship. In 2012, Perry began dating guitarist John Mayor, who a couple of years earlier had gone out with Taylor Swift, but her friend was not at all embarrassed by this, and they continued to communicate as before.

The fact that Taylor Swift and Katy Perry had some kind of conflict became known only in the fall of 2014, when Swift released her breakthrough album 1989. One of best songs from the album, she is the most angry and aggressive, called Bad Blood - enmity, or quarrel translated from English.
Reconciliation
Katy Perry was the first to back down. Since 2016, she has been on Twitter several times, but on some TV show she said that she was ready to record with her ex-friend, and had nothing against her at all.
Taylor didn't seem to hear. On June 9, 2017, on the day of the release of Perry's new album Witness, Swift returned her album 1989 to streaming services.
