DIY wedding dress patterns. DIY wedding dress. The advantages of making your own wedding dress.

Good day, fashionistas of our beloved community.

It's time to tell you about my latest wedding works. But first of all, for beginners, I want to tell you a little about myself and my work. My name is Romanova Anastasia, I am 23 years old. I live in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. This year I graduated from university with a degree in design. My graduation theme was a collection of wedding dresses. I wrote a post about her

It's never too late to start conservation

While it's better to start sooner rather than later, Katie urges that it's never too late to take care of a treasured heirloom. Unfortunately, this may cost you more. If your dress develops oxidized stains, they may be even more difficult to remove. But here's the good news: Her business has been able to restore vintage dresses that have been in someone's attic or closet for decades - so don't be discouraged, it can be done.

Master class - how to make a wedding belt with your own hands

It's super easy and gives you the ability to personalize and remember the Big Day. Most often, brides ask for their initials or wedding date to be embroidered in script font, but you can make any design you want. In fact, the more personal the better! Embroidery settings.

I also wrote a post about my other wedding works

In general, I “fell ill” with wedding dresses back in 2009, when I was a 2nd year student. This “disease” still does not leave me. I am happy that God gave me the opportunity to create, especially such a miracle as wedding dresses. Everyone knows that making a wedding dress is not an easy procedure. And in order to do something worthwhile, you need to invest not only your talent and hard work, but also a piece of your soul. I love putting a smile on my brides' faces. When I hear words of gratitude, I want to create more and more.

Apply wedding satin to stabilizer and place in your hoop. The trick is to tighten the screw a little and then adjust the fabric. You want the fabric to be pulled tightly along the grain. Try to work out any bubbles that form.

Then attach your embroidery leg and embroidery needle. If you don't know how to attach these accessories, check out our readings. And finally. click in your hoop. It's so frustrating to get halfway through a pattern and find out that the designs aren't aligned or the needle is boring.

Today I would like to tell you about my last 3 works, how they were created and what came out of them.

Preface: I am approached mainly by brides who want something special, who do not want to be “Cookie Brides”. Most often, they look for “Their” dress for a long time, but find nothing in the salons of our city. Sometimes brides come and already know what they want. But most often just in general terms. I don’t impose my opinion on them; I draw a large number of sketches in which I see them. Then the brides decide on their own, we settle on one sketch, select fabrics and accessories. Sometimes I order material, since there is very little choice in the city, and if there is decent fabric, it costs a lot, a lot of money.

From the embroidery main screen, select the frame icon. Now that you have your design ready, it's time for some fine tuning. This is why it is important to perform all these steps on a test patch first. Adjust the size to suit the scenario you are using. For example, if you are stitching a date like mine, your frame will be close to the maximum size. If you are only embroidering initials, you will have a smaller frame.

Once you've chosen your settings, write down the coordinates to go back. Return to the main embroidery screen and select the Font icon. Be sure to change your letter to lowercase once you've chosen the first letter of your word, unless you want your letters to be capitalized. After selecting the phrase, adjust any size or position in the same way as with the frame. For more accurate positioning, refer to your coordinates.

Let's start with the first bride. She found me on the Internet while looking through my wedding photos. This was a little over a year ago. She really liked my wedding dress. We started talking, and she said that she was planning a wedding next year, and she would definitely order a dress from me. She wanted the dress to be functional, so that she would feel comfortable in it. Parents insisted that the dress must be white and fluffy. I decided to compromise and make a transformable dress (especially since I love such dresses, and have sewn them with a double skirt more than once)

Sit back and relax while embroidering your machine. Use your curved scissors and seam ripper to cut off the tiny jumping threads. Use a seam guide and marking tool to place a 1cm seam on the patch. This means that the seamstress may end up under the hem when sewing a patch into the dress.

Use tweezers to trim along the seam. You can get really creative with your patch patterns. For example, one of my favorite patch designs is the phrase "And they lived happily ever after" with a wedding underneath the phrase. For example, a Cross with wedding rings and a date.

Here's the final sketch we settled on.

It was decided to make the skirt from pieces of tulle, feathers and various satin and tulle flowers. The corset is translucent, embroidered with lace and beads. This is what came out of this sketch.

The photos were taken on the day the bride picked up her dress.

I will not comment on every photo, if you have any questions, please ask.

Or an image symbolizing the love of couples. Wearing and tossing a garter at your wedding is a time-honored tradition. So today we're sharing a simple technique for making your own custom wedding garter! The best part is that this project can be completed in less than an hour!

Everyone is different, so follow these simple steps to find the length you want your ribbon and lace to be. To get the perfect amount for your garter, add your number plus 7. So for us it was 21; Cut your ribbon and lace to your specific number. Then for elastic take your first number and minus - 3; For us equal to 11.

This will ensure that your garter doesn't fall off your leg! Making this garter is very simple and there are only a few steps. First, sew the ribbon over your lace. Keep your stitching as straight as possible. When your first seam is done, this is what it should look like.

Sew the opposite edge of the ribbon to the lace. At this point you are halfway there! Now take the cut piece of rubber and place a large safety pin on the end. Then place a safety pin between the ribbon and the lace. Continue moving the safety pin with the elastic until it goes all the way. The elastic is shorter than ribbon lace, so you will have to gather it as you go. Be careful not to lose the other end of your elastic!

And finally, photos from the wedding. In addition to the dress, I also made a veil, earrings and necklace for the bride from Swarovski crystals, hair decoration and bouquet, as well as a bolero.

Once you have the elastic all the way to the end, secure both ends so you don't lose them. The lace side is then sewn together on the right side of the tape facing each other. This is the last seam of your garter. Turn your garter right side up and you're done! In no time, you have a beautiful, plain garter for your wedding day!

If you're looking to add a little something special to your new garter, why not add your groom-to-be's bosses! Here I have a charm with two jump rings; Open one jump ring and close it around the lace. We've made a shabby chic version below for all you country brides out there. Same steps as above except we add a vintage button as an embellishment. Sew it onto a ribbon like a regular button.

Dream in white - according to your taste

Here are our tips if you're thinking about sewing your wedding dress. Basically, you only need basic sewing knowledge so that you can sew your own wedding dress. With the right cut, the fight is already half won. Since a wedding dress is usually made from luxurious fabrics, the cut doesn't have to be particularly expensive. Here substances find themselves.

It is advisable to give preference to high-quality accessories so that they can withstand the entire process of sewing the product and the long day of the special event.

It is advisable to complement the wedding dress with various accessories and decorative elements:

However, all selected elements must be in harmony with each other. It is best to use no more than two types of accessories to decorate a dress, for example: lace and pearls or embroidery and rhinestones. The amount of jewelry in an outfit should be balanced.

Selecting the style and length of the product

Today there is a wide selection of different styles of wedding dresses that you can sew with your own hands. Among the most popular models are:

The choice of a suitable style primarily depends on the girl’s figure and height:

  • For short, plump girls, a floor-length dress made in the empire style is ideal. It will visually make them taller and slimmer.
  • Girls who are overweight and curvy should avoid voluminous products with a full skirt. In this case, it is best to choose a straight dress without unnecessary details.

  • Those with beautiful shoulder lines and graceful arms are recommended to give preference to products with straps lowered to the forearms.
  • Girls with beautiful and slender legs can sew themselves a short, tight-fitting dress that will highlight the dignity of their owner.
  • The swan neck will be emphasized by a dress with a high neckline or a product with an open back. In this case, it is recommended to choose a high hairstyle or style with hair pinned up.
  • A mermaid dress is ideal for those with an hourglass figure.
  • Those with a small bust are advised to choose bustier dresses decorated with exquisite drapery in the neckline area.
  • For girls with large breasts, it is best to choose a product with a high neck.

Having chosen which dress to sew for the wedding, you can move on to the next stage: finding a pattern.

This stage will not be particularly difficult, since you can find many good options on the Internet. You just need to take measurements of your own figure (it is recommended to invite a friend for this) and adjust the pattern to suit you.

Additional components

In addition to the fabric for the outfit and the pattern, to sew a dress for a wedding, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • scissors;
  • needles and a set of threads;
  • a special chalk or thin piece of dry soap designed to transfer a pattern to the fabric;
  • lining;
  • accessories intended to decorate the product;
  • boning or lacing for a corset (if provided for by the product model);
  • a sewing machine with a set of presser feet and needles for various materials and stitches.

All of the above materials must be of high quality. Otherwise, during the cutting and sewing process, you may accidentally damage the product.

You can quickly sew a wedding dress only if its style is quite simple and you have a high level of skill. Otherwise, sewing a wedding dress will take at least a month, or even more. Therefore, it is recommended to start making your own dress for the wedding ceremony several months before the planned date.

Before you start choosing this or that style, objectively assess your strengths and skills. If your skill is imperfect, you should not choose overly complex models with many decorative elements.

For beginners in the art of cutting and sewing, an empire style dress or a long straight dress is ideal. It is possible to sew these models yourself in just 3-4 weeks.

How to learn to sew wedding dresses

For the first

The process of making a wedding dress seems too complicated. However, it is quite possible to do it yourself at home. To do this, you need to stock up on a fair amount of patience and personal time.

So, how to learn to sew wedding dresses? First you need to independently master the basics of cutting and sewing. This can be done through special courses or at home by studying materials and video tutorials on the Internet.

You can also purchase additional instructions or attend a master class on the topic “How to sew evening and wedding dresses.”

It is possible to master the basics of cutting and sewing in just 2-3 lessons, especially if you want to create an original outfit taking into account your own preferences.

Sewing technology

Let's look at the main steps of how to sew a wedding dress. After preparing the fabric and additional materials, it is necessary to carry out the following actions in the specified sequence:

The train is one of the most beautiful and elegant decorations of a wedding dress. It can be of any length and shape. To sew a train for a wedding dress, be sure to stick to the basic style and texture of the product. This will allow you not to accidentally spoil the image, making it ridiculous and unattractive.

If you decide to sew a wedding dress with a train, it is recommended to select the fabric for this detail in advance. It is worth noting that sewing a train yourself is not particularly difficult, especially if you have good cutting and sewing skills.

The train should not be too long. Although this option looks beautiful and luxurious, you will not be able to dance or move normally in a dress with a long train.

There are several ways to cut a dress train. Among them, the following 2 options are the most popular:

  • Increasing the length of the step by adding a set-in wedge, which is sewn into the back seam of the skirt. The wedge must be made longer than the dress.
  • Another option is to extend the center seam of the back of the dress to the desired length. In the same way, the side seams should be widened and lengthened. It is worth paying attention that when creating a pattern, you need to leave a seam allowance of 1 cm.

Advantages of making your own wedding dress

  • The opportunity to create a unique and original model that will distinguish you from other brides.
  • Saving money on atelier services, as well as saving time on visiting a seamstress to take measurements, endless fittings of a product during the manufacturing process, etc.
  • Sewing your own wedding dress is guaranteed to become one of the most interesting and memorable projects in your life.
  • The opportunity to emphasize the advantages of your figure and hide flaws with the texture of fabrics and various decorative elements.
  • The ability to create a complex product with your own hands will pleasantly surprise the groom and wedding guests.

Thus, it is quite possible to sew a wedding dress yourself. However, for this you need to have at least minimal cutting and sewing skills, as well as qualities such as patience and attentiveness. Fabric and accessories should be selected in advance, thinking over the style, taking into account the characteristics of the figure and style of the future wedding.

Before sewing a magnificent wedding dress, you should objectively assess your strengths and capabilities. If your skills are too modest, it is recommended in this case to give preference to a simple and uncomplicated model of a wedding dress.
