Robot giants play. Ten films with huge fighting humanoid robots

Not a bad tragedy, as one would expect from a master of this not very popular genre- Tezuka Osamu. The plot here is full of Shakespearean, or maybe ancient Greek passions. First they tell us about romantic story, then about the balance between betrayal and loyalty (to country or friend?), and then about nobility and meanness. The whole story is imbued with the pathos of the struggle of humanism and high aspirations with inertia, anger, ignorance and dark customs. It turned out beautifully and sincerely, although there were (including in this series) stronger parts (but there were also worse ones). However, it should be noted that in pursuit of suspense, authors sometimes create strange situations. Either the heroine tries to immediately kill the stranger, and then immediately tries to help him. Or the murder is made over-the-top, although the hero had the opportunity to do everything quietly and unnoticed. And then they show us tragic ending, where the heroes, seemingly not being constrained by anything special, for some reason weakly submit to fate. The motivation for...

I was so interested that I got to the source... Ahem-ahem... So what am I talking about? Purely for me, this title seemed like some kind of discovery and a pleasant surprise of the past year, since it is never possible to predict what kind of story awaits you behind a sophisticated title. However, as in the case of the anime “This Stupid Pig Doesn’t Understand the Bunny Girl’s Dream,” the original author did not waste all his skills on just the title of the title and competently approached the disclosure of the plot and characters. So, I would like to highlight some of the most important aspects works that, in my opinion, are worth mentioning in the order given below, so let’s start with my favorite phrase “First things first!” Director. If something spoils the viewing experience, then this is the fault of the director, who was responsible for visualizing the project, but what do we have here? The film is the debut of Ushijima Shinichiro as a director, who with slow but confident steps grew from a tuner to...

Not a bad animation, though it’s not clear where the lolicon is, it’s more like some kind of shotokon, the art is decent, the frame rate, as it looks, is more than 25, you can watch it EVEN without fapping, in any case, I advise you to just have a look, just for the fun of it;3

I won’t say that I liked it, because such stories cannot be liked. Stories of Life with Death. And also great injustice. I won't say that I didn't like it, because it makes me look at Life with Death in a new way. Do we value our life, do we value our loved ones. Don't people close to us keep terrible secrets About Me? The name is certainly strange. It smells of either comedy or horror, but I assure you that the content will surprise and amaze with its unexpected depth. This story is about strong personalities. And I'm not sure I could do the same. But I will try.

There is no denying that Kyoto Animation does have titles with a fair amount of claim to seriousness. But Kanata should not be included here. And just wait for something super unusual too. BUT! If you want to watch something pleasant, just to take your time, then Kanata is a very good option, really. The portrayal is, of course, good. Typical of Kyoto Animation, but pleasing to the eye. The characters are cute. Ordinary, but cute and not annoying in any way. There is also some humor, light version. Enough romance. The action and setting are not even bad. Just look at it - well, everything is there. Only serious business is missing. And it’s not needed here. I gave it an 8. It’s easy, relaxed, I like it.

I’ve known about the existence of the School of the Dead for a long time, but somehow I passed it by, because I’m not a fan of zombie themes and am indifferent to it, with rare exceptions. And then there is ecchi with a relative harem, in general a nuclear mixture, at first glance. But here for the replay Dying Light(one of those exceptions) remembered this series, decided to look at the mood. And... he was a great success for me! All 12 episodes flew by unnoticed, it seemed like I had just started watching the episode, and already the ending. It looks very easy, there is no burden, there is a high intensity of events, while everything is clear and the thread of the narrative is not lost. In my opinion, this is due to the fact that the title is Western-oriented, it is noticeable that the author was inspired by the classic theme of the zombie apocalypse. There is almost no notorious Japaneseness here, like battles stretched out over 3 episodes, 2 of which are occupied by empty chatter, slow-witted people overcoming OYASH, and generally frankly stupid moments. Of course, there were some episodes, for example, conversations about...

This title is in the "Prokhodnyak" class. It’s not that there should have been 24 episodes per season, but at least two seasons, and then just to finish what they started but abandoned. 1) Develop the romantic component. 2) At least a little reveal the characters on both sides conflict.3) It would be nice to tell about the sword itself and its owner. And much, much more. But it turned out like in that joke “We won’t eat everything, but I’ll take a fair bite.” They even made the ending in such a way that the groundwork for the next season was clearly visible, but either they didn’t give the money or they simply abandoned the project. And the unfinished title was left to collect dust. P.S. Released in 2014, maybe if One-Strike Fighter collects enough money, then they will make a sequel. In principle, it is possible to revive. P.S. There is a manga, but there is a problem with the translation. Liberate!

The great masterpiece of Japanese animation, which was almost ruined by the cardboard second part, turned out much more successfully this season. Improved graphics and drawing musical arrangement, and the plot itself became more dramatic, more serious and darker. And although the cheap graphics still hurt the eye in places, especially in combat scenes, it more than pays off with entertainment and dynamism. We will wait for the continuation and hope that the fourth season will be even better and reach the level of the legendary first part

For me, the cartoon “The Steel Giant” dates back to the time when I sat down in front of the TV, inserted the cassette into the VCR, took out a bunch of cookies and lemonade and devoted myself to watching it with great pleasure. Therefore, this cartoon, like many pictures of that time, which left a mark and memory in the heart and carries nostalgia and memories from a bright childhood - something special and very touching. I don’t want to talk about the plot and try to dryly analyze and consider something, because that’s stupid. For the sole reason that the cartoon “The Steel Giant”, if not a masterpiece, is very close to it. This is a truly stunning and very touching cartoon, one of those films that people worked on with love and feeling; animators and artists put their souls into every storyboard drawing. This cartoon has the most important thing - soul! When I have a child, I will never show him any Shrek, Cars and similar soulless creations of soulless graphics. I won’t argue, these are not bad cartoons, but they are not at all for children, and they are not cartoons in the usual sense. They are too complex, too pompous, despite their genre nature and harmlessness, they have a degree of vulgarity. They will never be even 10% comparable to such cartoons as “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Little Mermaid”, “The Lion King” and similar creations, which undoubtedly include “The Iron Giant”. Yes, this cartoon is older and more modern than the ones I listed, it touches on more modern problems, it contains more modern and complex elements, there are no longer scenes with songs, so traditional for Disney films, it already gravitates more towards the level of the film, but at the same time it does not lose that kindness and tenderness. There is not a drop of vulgarity or violence in the film; it is very kind and touching. The style in which the visual part is made is very pleasant, the artists did not strive to convey super realism and mega detail of every millimeter of the picture, which is what they are so obsessively striving for now, they made both the images and the environment very simple, so that the child could understand and feel everything, but at the same time At the same time, it is moderately detailed, the cartoon is very beautiful and at the same time spectacular.

The story of the friendship between Hogwart and the Giant cannot help but touch; even the most callous person, it seems to me, will be imbued with the characters and fall in love with them. The cartoon very competently and talentedly reveals far from the most simple themes, as self-sacrifice, the problem of choice, misunderstanding and repulsion of those who are not like everyone else, nobility and betrayal. The creators worked very carefully and carefully on the script and all the characters, very carefully and correctly embodying their ideas and morals in this wonderful cartoon.

Wonderful cartoon, wonderful amazing Touching story O true friendship and devotion. Honestly, when I watched it recently, just like ten years ago, when I saw the cartoon for the first time, so now, when the Giant at the end flew towards the warhead, closing his eyes, said “Superman”, sobbed Even now, typing these words, remembering this scene, Tears involuntarily appeared. Outstanding correct cartoon! Thanks to Brad Bird for such a well-deserved masterpiece!

The film was released in the Soviet Union under the title “Robot Fighters.” The film describes a world after a nuclear disaster, in which wars are forever a thing of the past, and all interstate disputes (in in this case- territorial) are resolved with the help of spectacular battles controlled by robot pilots. The goal of such battles is not to kill the pilot, so they look more like a competition of technologies (including weapons and defense) and take place in a huge arena specifically designed for this purpose.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004)

A wonderful film shot in the rare noir genre. The black and white format (the film was shot on black and white film and then colored on a computer) imitates the cinema of the 30s of the last century. A young journalist investigates the disappearance of scientists. At a certain moment, those same “huge fighting humanoid robots” appear, and the magnificent Angelina Jolie, who played one of the most unusual roles in her career.

Ghost Ship (1969)

It’s impossible to believe, but this picture was filmed back in 1969. I watched it in the 80s back in school years and this one full-length cartoon(we didn’t know the word “anime” yet) left a deep impression. Of course, today he looks too naive, but the beautiful story of a noble captain, a mysterious ship, a greedy capitalist and an equally mysterious huge (well, you get the idea) robot will always appeal to children. Even if they are already 40 years old.

Fighting Robots (1996)

Frankly, this is the only film out of the dozen that I haven’t seen myself, but which was recommended to me, and which I’m going to watch myself, despite conflicting reviews. The film takes place on Earth, which, after a fierce war, has been virtually transformed into a desert. The planet is controlled by certain Teradaxes, and only the robot warrior Gibson of the same size that interests us can resist them.

Living Steel (2011)

Not the largest and not the most combative of all the humanoid robots of this ten. However, one hero of this film is definitely a robot. And he has remarkable fighting qualities. The second hero is Hugh Jackman's character, who is the owner and trainer of combat robots that perform in the arena for the amusement of the public. Beautiful story, not without morals, with the story of the relationship between a father and an 11-year-old son, who, together with their robot, make their way to success.

Evangelion (1995)

Despite the fact that in Japan there is a whole subgenre of anime in which we're talking about about mechs - robots controlled by pilots, it is impossible to ignore the most famous series on this topic. Retelling the plot of Evangelion is an extremely thankless task. I still don’t know if I liked this series or not (probably not). But anime fans are simply delighted with it.

Thor (2011)

Although the film "Thor" has a very indirect relation to robots (he is part of the Marvel comic book universe and is now actively exploited along with other heroes: Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers team), there is still a huge fighting humanoid robot in the film. This is a practically invulnerable robot that spews jets of fire no worse than a dragon. In general, the enemies will not survive. And the film is worth watching not only for this robot.
