Brief description of the game

Participants in the Monopoly game buy, rent, rent or sell property, making a profit and thereby increasing their capital. The player who manages to earn the most money during the game becomes the winner.

At the beginning of the game, participants place their chips on the “Go” field, and then move them around the playing field depending on the number of points rolled on the dice. If you find yourself on a field with a property that does not yet belong to anyone, then you can buy this property from the Bank. If you decide not to purchase the property, an auction will be held and it will go to the highest bidder. The player receives rent from participants staying on the course with property owned by him. When building Houses and Hotels, rent increases significantly, so you should build on as many Sites as possible. If you need additional money, you can mortgage your property with the Bank. During the game, you must always follow the instructions written on the “Total Treasury” and “Chance” cards. In some cases, you may be sent to Jail.

Purpose of the game

The only remaining participant who has not become bankrupt wins.

Preparing for the game

1. Place Houses, Hotels, Owner cards and money (sorted by denomination) into separate cells of the Banker's tray.

2. Separate the “Chance” and “Common Treasury” cards, shuffle them and place them face down in the appropriate places on the playing field.

3. Each participant selects his own game piece and places it on the “Go” field.

4. Banker and Bank

One of the players is chosen to play the role of Banker. If the number of players is less than five, then the player chosen by the Banker continues to simultaneously participate in the game as a regular player; if the number of players exceeds five, the Banker, at his choice, can limit himself to only fulfilling this role and not take part in the game as a regular player.

The banker gives each player money in the amount of 1500 units. with the following bills:

Two bills x 500 units. Two bills x 10 units.

Four bills x 100 units. One bill x 5 units.

One bill x 50 units. Five bills x 1 unit.

One bill x 20 units.

The banker keeps not only the money, but also the Owner, House and Hotel cards until they are purchased by the players. In addition, the Banker pays players' salaries and bonuses, advances money when arranging mortgages, and collects all taxes, penalties, loans, and interest. When conducting auctions, the Banker takes on the role of presenter.

The bank cannot go bankrupt. If all the money in the Bank has run out, then you can make the required amount of money yourself from ordinary paper in the form of promissory notes.

5. To determine who will go first, each player rolls both dice before starting the game. The player with the most points goes first, and then the turn goes to the player to his left.

Rules of the game

When it comes to your turn, roll both dice and move your piece clockwise around the playing field. The field you land on will determine your further actions. Two or more chips can be on the same field at the same time. Depending on the field you are on, you can do one of the following:

§ buy Possession or other property

§ pay rent (if you entered a field that is already someone else’s property)

§ pay taxes

§ pull out the “Chance” or “Total Treasury” card

§ go to Prison

§ stop at the “Free Parking” field

§ receive a salary of 200 units.

§ go to the Prison only “as a visitor”

Dropping out takes

If you have the same number of points on two dice (a double), then you must move your piece and make your move as usual. Then roll the dice again and take another extra turn. If you get three doubles in a row, you will go to Prison.

Passing through the “Go” field

Every time you stop at the “Go” field or pass by it in the direction of the arrow, the Bank pays you a salary of 200 units. You can get 200 units twice. in one move. For example, this will happen if you get to the “Chance” or “Total Treasury” field immediately after the “Go” field and take a card that says “Advance to Go” (“Move to the “Go” field).

Purchasing property

If you land on a field with property that does not belong to anyone (that is, property for which no player has an Owner card), you have the right to be the first to buy it. There are three types of property in the game - Ownership, Utility Enterprise and Railway Station. If you decide to buy a property, deposit the amount of money indicated on the field into the Bank. For this you will receive an Owner's card. You must place this document face up in front of you. If you decide not to buy the property, the Banker must immediately put it up for auction and sell it to the highest bidder. Bidding begins with any starting price that one or another player agrees to pay. Even if you decide not to buy this property at the original price shown on the box, you can also participate in the bidding.

Ownership of property

Owning a property gives you the right to collect rent from all players whose chips end up on the corresponding field. A big advantage over other players is having all the Domains of the same color, i.e. owning a monopoly. You can build on any Property that is part of a group of a certain color that you own.

Stop at Possession

If you are staying on a Property that has already been purchased by another player, you may be asked to pay rent for staying on that Property. The owner can only demand rent from you before the next player behind you rolls the dice. The rent for staying on a Hold is shown on the Owner's card and may vary depending on the number of buildings built on the Hold. If all the Domains of the same color are owned by the same player, then the rent for staying on any of the Domains of that group that has not yet built buildings is doubled.

However, if any Possession is mortgaged, then the owner of the entire group of Possessions of the same color cannot collect double payment. If Houses or a Hotel are built on the Property, the rent will be increased in accordance with the amount indicated on the Owner's card for this Property. There is no charge for being on the mortgaged Property.

Stop at Utilities

If you land on a field with a Utility Company that has not yet been purchased by other players, you can buy it. As with other types of property, you must pay the Bank the price indicated in the Utility Company field. If the Utility is already owned by another player, you may be asked to pay rent. This fee is determined by the number of points on the die that landed you on the Utility board.

If the owner has only one Utility, the fee will be four times the number of points rolled on the die. If both Utilities are owned by the same player, then you must pay ten times the number of points on the die.

If you decide not to purchase the Utility, the Banker will hold an auction and the Utility will go to the highest bidder. You can also take part in the auction.

Stop at Railway Stations

If you got to the Railway Station first, then you have the opportunity to buy it. Otherwise, the Banker will organize an auction. Although you refused to buy the Railway Station at the original price, you can participate in the auction along with other players. If the Railway Station you find yourself in is already the property of another player, then you must pay him the amount indicated on the Owner card. The size of the fee is determined by how many other Railway stations the owner of the Railway station you are in has.

Stop at the fields “Chance” or “Total Treasury”

If you land on one of these fields, then you must take the top card from the corresponding pile. These cards may include the following:

§ Move the piece

§ Pay money, for example in the form of taxes

§ Get money

§ Go to Prison

§ Leave Prison for free

You must perform the action written on the card and then place that card at the very bottom of the pile. If you drew a “Get Out of Jail Free” card, you can keep it until you want to use it. You can also sell this card at a price that you agree on with other participants.

Note: The card may give instructions to move the chip to another field. If at the same time you pass the “Go” field, then you receive a sum of money in the amount of 200 units. If you are sent to Jail or ordered to move a piece back, then you are considered to have failed the “Go” square.

Stop at the “Tax Spaces” field

If you find yourself in such a field, then you must pay the appropriate amount of money to the Bank.

Stopping at the “Free Parking” field

If you land on this field, then you can remain on it until your next turn. You don’t need to pay anything for being on this field, and you can carry out any operations (collect rent, build buildings on your Possessions, etc.)

Jail

You will be sent to Prison in the following cases:

§ If you stop at the “Go to Jail” field

§ If you take a “Chance” or “General Treasury” card that says “Go directly to Jail”

§ If you get three doubles in a row

When you are sent to Prison, your turn ends. You also cannot receive a salary of 200 units. no matter which field you choose.

You can leave the Prison as follows:

§ Pay a fine of 50 units. and continue the game from the next turn

§ Buy a “Get Out of Jail Free” card from another player at a negotiated price and use it to free yourself

§ Use your own “Leave Jail Free” card, if you have one

§ Stay in the Prison for three turns, rolling the dice each time in the hope of getting a double. If on your turn you get a double, then you can leave the Prison and make a move according to the number of points rolled

After you have spent three turns in the Prison, you must leave the Prison by paying a fine of 50 units. before you move your chip according to the number of points rolled.

While in the Prison, you can charge other players rent for the use of your property, if it is not mortgaged.

If you were not sent to Prison, but during the game you stopped on the “Prison” field, then it is considered that you simply enter the Prison “as a visitor” and do not pay any fines. When the next move comes to you, you can continue the game.

At home

After you buy up all the Domains of the same color, you can buy Houses and install them on any of these Domains. At the same time, the rent that you charge from players staying on the Properties you own increases.

The price of the House is indicated in the corresponding Owner's card. You can buy a House on your turn or between other players' turns. Remember that you must build evenly, i.e. you cannot build a second House on any Property of the same color group until you have built one House on each Property of that group. This rule applies to any number of Houses up to the maximum possible: four Houses on one Property. The sale of the House must also be carried out evenly in accordance with the above rule.

You can buy and sell Houses at any time and in any quantity, as much as your financial condition allows. You cannot build a House on a Property if any Property from the same color group is mortgaged. If you own all the Domains of one color group, and you have built a House on only one or two of the Domains, then you can still receive double payment from other players staying on your Domains from that color group (even if there is nothing on them not built).

Hotel

Before you can buy a Hotel, you must build four Houses on each Property of that color group. A hotel is bought in the same way as a house. For one Hotel you must pay four Houses, which are returned to the Bank, and the price indicated on the Owner's card for the Hotel. Only one Hotel can be built on one Property.

Shortage of Houses

If there are no more Houses left in the Bank, then before you buy a House, you must wait until other players return their Houses to the Bank. Likewise, you cannot receive Houses instead of a Hotel if there are none left in the Bank.

If there are a limited number of Houses or Hotels left in the Bank, and two or more players want to buy more of them than are left in the Bank, then the Banker will hold an auction and these buildings will go to the highest bidder.

The starting price at the auction is the price indicated in the corresponding card of the Owner.

Selling property

You can sell a Property without buildings, a Railway Station and a Utility Plant to any player, receiving a pre-agreed amount of money from him. However, you cannot sell a Possession to another player if there is a building on at least one Possession of the same color group. If you want to sell a Possession that is part of a certain color group, then first you must sell to the Bank all the buildings on all the Possessions of this group.

Houses should be sold evenly, similar to the buying rule (see the “Houses” section). You cannot sell Houses and Hotel to other players. They must be sold to the Bank for half the price indicated on the relevant Owner's card. You can sell your House or Hotel at any time.

For the Hotel, the Bank will pay you half the cost of the Hotel plus half the cost of the Houses that you handed over to the Bank when purchasing this Hotel. All Hotels from the same color group can be sold at the same time. If necessary, the Hotel can be divided again into Houses. To do this, you need to sell the Hotel to the Bank and receive in return four Houses, as well as money for the Hotel (i.e., half of their cost). You cannot sell pledged property to the Bank, but you can sell it to other players.

Pledge

If you have no money left, but you need to pay debts, then you can get a certain amount of money by mortgaging the property. If you mortgage a Property, you must first sell all the buildings to the Bank. When mortgaging property, turn the Owner's card face down and receive from the Bank the amount of money indicated on the back of the card. If you want to buy back your property, you will have to pay this amount plus 10%.

If you mortgage the property, it remains in your possession. Other players cannot buy this property by paying the mortgage price to the Bank.

You cannot receive rent on a mortgaged property. However, you may still receive payment for other properties in the same color group. You can sell the mortgaged property to other players at a pre-agreed price.

The player can then redeem the mortgage by paying the Bank the mortgage amount plus 10%. If this is not done, the player must pay the Bank 10% when purchasing this property, and later, when he decides to buy out the mortgage, he will have to pay the Bank the cost

mortgage and an additional 10%.

When all the Properties of one color group are no longer mortgaged, the owner can begin to buy Houses again at the appropriate price.

Bankruptcy

If you owe the Bank or another player an amount that exceeds the total amount of funds that you can receive by selling your property, you are declared bankrupt and leave the game.

If you owe money to the Bank, then the Bank receives all your cash and all the Owner's cards. The Bank then sells all this property piece by piece at auction.

If you are declared bankrupt, you must return the Get Out of Jail Free cards, placing them at the bottom of the appropriate pile.

If you become bankrupt in debt to another player, then your Houses and Hotels are sold to the Bank for half their original value, and that player receives your cash, Owner cards and “Get Out of Jail Free” cards. If you have any mortgaged property left, you must also transfer it to this player. In this case, he must pay 10% of its value, and then decide whether he wants to keep the mortgage or buy the property.

Notes on the game

If you do not have enough cash to pay the rent, you can pay your lender part of the amount in cash and part of the amount in the property you own (provided there are no buildings on the property). In this case, a creditor may accept a certain property (even if it is mortgaged) for a price significantly higher than that shown on the Owner card in order to obtain additional property or prevent another player from gaining control of it.

Control over the collection of rent should be exercised directly by the property owner himself.

The player can borrow money only from the Bank and only on the security of his property. Players cannot lend each other money.

Winner

The last participant remaining in the game is the winner.

Short game rules

There are three differences in the rules of the short game compared to the rules of the regular game:

1. During preparation for the game, the Banker shuffles the Owner's cards. Then the player sitting to the left of the Banker removes the deck, and the latter distributes one Owner card twice in a circle to the players. If the Banker is also an ordinary player, then he deals the Owner’s cards to himself. Players who receive Owner cards must immediately pay the Bank the stated price for both Owner cards received.

2. In the shortened game, you must build only three Houses (instead of four) on each Property of the color group before you can buy a Hotel.

The rent remains the same as in the standard game.

When you sell a Hotel, the proceeds are half the original cost, which is one less House in this version of the game than in the normal game.

3. Game over. The first player to go bankrupt is out of the game, just like in a standard game. When the second player also goes bankrupt, the game ends. A player who becomes bankrupt transfers everything he owns to his creditor (the Bank or another player), including buildings and other property.

Then each of the remaining participants in the game adds up the following:

1. Cash on hand.

2. The player's Possessions, Utilities and Railway Stations at the price indicated on the playing field.

3. Mortgaged property in the amount of half the price indicated on the playing field.

4. Homes valued at purchase price.

5. Hotels valued at purchase price, including the value of the three Houses for which the Hotel was exchanged.

The richest player wins!

Game with time limit

Before starting this version of the game, you need to agree on the end time of the game. The richest participant at the end of the game will win. Before starting the game, you need to shuffle the deck of Owner cards and remove them. The Banker then deals two cards to each player, one card per round. Participants immediately deposit the value of the property issued to them into the Bank, and the game continues according to standard rules.

Board game "Monopoly: Millionaire" This is a modern version of everyone's favorite game. One of the most popular economic games for a fun company and an excellent family vacation. The board game introduces the player to basic knowledge of economics and entrepreneurship. The version differs from the classic Monopoly only in the purpose of the game. The rules of the game are the same. The level of difficulty (from easy to difficult) depends on the version of the game and may vary.

Goal in the board game Monopoly

Become a millionaire. In the classic version of Monopoly, you need to capture all the companies in a certain industry (become a “monopoly”) and ruin your rivals.

Board game Monopoly: game rules

  • The game is intended for 2-6 players.
  • Before the game, each player receives starting capital, which he can invest in an insurance policy or shares.
  • In the game, each player has his own specific role. For example, a stockbroker monitors all financial transactions in the game and so on.
  • Monopoly is played on a square playing field consisting of nine sectors. Each sector symbolizes a specific industry. The 2nd-3rd companies are given eight industries and they are located close to each other. In the center of the playing field is the main industry, which is the most expensive in the game. Her four companies are also located next to her on each side of the playing field.
  • To move around the playing field, players roll 2 dice in turn.
  • The player moves his pieces based on the points rolled on the dice.
  • The game begins from the field called “Start” and moves further clockwise.
  • If a player throws a double, then he goes again.
  • If a player throws a double three times in a row, he is sent to the police.
  • Each cell on the field corresponds to a specific company card with a specified price list for rent, purchase price and property taxes.
  • There are also cells on the playing field called “Chance” and “Fortune”, which are an addition and give the player orders. These instructions may or may not be very useful. For example, deprivation of shares, tax exemption.
  • If a player, during his turn, stops on a cell of the field with free real estate, then he can purchase it or refuse to purchase it.
  • If a player, during his turn, stopped at a cell of “someone else’s” real estate, then he will have to pay rental services to the owner.
  • For each completed circle on the playing field, the player receives a bonus and pays taxes when moving to the “Tax Office” cell. This field is located next to the “Start” field. You won't miss it.
  • On the opposite side is the “Tax Police”. If a player hits it, he will have to throw the dice 3 times in a row until a double is rolled out. If this does not happen, then the player must pay a fine in order to leave the field of the police station.
  • There is an additional “Jackpot” cell on the playing field. If the player hits it, he makes a bet, lays out his money and rolls 1 die 3 times in a row. If you have a winning combination, your money is multiplied by this coefficient. If not, then the money remains in the “Jackpot”.
  • The insured event in the Monopoly game is the lack of money to cover expenses. This may include paying rent or taxes. If there is an insurance policy, then the player can save himself from the current situation.
  • A player who owns all companies in one industry becomes a monopolist and can acquire branches. This means that he has the right to increase the rent for all “guests” who come to his site. But at the same time, property taxes also increase and the player will have to pay more to the tax authorities.

Monopoly is a classic game in which you can buy, rent and sell your property! At the beginning of the game, participants place their chips on the “Forward” field, then move them around the playing field depending on the number of points rolled on the dice. If you find yourself on a Real Estate Plot that does not yet belong to anyone, then you can buy this Real Estate from the Bank. If you decide not to buy it, it can be sold at the Auction to another player who offers the highest price for it. Players who have their own Properties can charge rent from players who enter their Lot. When constructing Houses and Hotels, the rent increases significantly, so you should build on as many Lots as possible. If you need additional money, you can mortgage your Property. During the game, you should always follow the instructions written on the “Total Treasury” cards and “Chance” cards. But don't relax - in some cases you may be sent to prison.

RULES of the short game of Monopoly

If you know a little Monopoly game rules, then now you can
play it faster with the Quick Play Rules!
In this game the rules are exactly the same as in Classic Monopoly,
but there are three differences:

  1. In the initial stage of the game, the Banker shuffles the cards for the right of Property. Then the player sitting to the left of the Banker removes the deck, after which the players are dealt one card each for the right of Property twice. If the Banker is also an ordinary player, then he distributes cards for the right of Property to himself. Players must immediately pay the stated price to the Bank for both Title Cards received. The game then continues according to standard rules.
  2. In the shortened game, you must build only three Houses (instead of four) on each Lot of a color group before you can purchase a Hotel. The rent remains the same as in the standard game. When you sell a Hotel, the proceeds are half of the original cost, i.e. one House less than in a regular game.
  3. End of the game Monopoly.
  • Cash on hand.
  • The player's existing Lots, Utilities and Railways
  • Stations at the price indicated on the playing field.
  • Mortgaged property in the amount of half the price indicated on the playing field.
  • Homes valued at purchase price.
  • Hotels valued at purchase price, including the value of the three Houses for which the Hotel was exchanged.

Participants immediately deposit the value of the Property issued to them into the Bank and the game continues according to standard rules m.

Game board, 28 cards - Documents of Property Rights, 16 cards - Public Treasury, 16 cards - Chance, 8 gold luxury chips, Bank Cashbox, 1 set of special money for Monopoly, 32 wooden Houses, 12 wooden Hotels and 2 dice, 1 Monopoly game rules.

BEGINNING OF THE GAME

  1. Place Houses, Hotels, Title Deeds and money (at face value) in separate sectors of the playing field.
There is a diagram on the board showing the correct placement of all game pieces.
  2. Separate the Chance cards, shuffle them and place them back side up on the appropriate area of the game board.
  3. Separate the Community Treasury cards, shuffle them, and place them backside down on the appropriate area of the game board.
  4. Each player chooses a playing piece and places it on the “FORWARD” field.
  5. Banker and Bank: One of the players is chosen as the Banker. If there are more than five players in a game, the Banker may, at his discretion, limit himself to only that role in the game.
The banker gives each of the players 1,500 thousand rubles in the following bills:
  • Two bills of 500 thousand rubles
  • Four bills of 100 thousand rubles
  • One banknote of 50 thousand rubles
  • One bill of 20 thousand rubles
  • Two bills of 10 thousand rubles
  • One 5 thousand ruble bill
  • Five bills of 1 thousand rubles

In addition to money, the Bank also has cards for Title Deeds, Houses and Hotels until they are purchased by the players. The bank also pays salaries and bonuses, gives loans secured by the Real Estate and collects all taxes, fines, repaid loans and interest on them. During an auction, the Banker acts as an auctioneer. A bank can never go bankrupt, but it can issue the required amount of money in the form of promissory notes written on an ordinary piece of paper.
6. Players roll both dice. The one with the most points starts the game. The player sitting to his left goes next, and so on.

PROGRESS OF THE GAME

When it's your turn, roll both dice and move your piece forward along the board in the direction indicated by the arrow. The field you land on determines what you need to do. Several chips can be on one field at the same time. Depending on what field you find yourself on, you will have to:

  • buy plots for construction or other real estate,
  • pay rent if you find yourself on property owned by others
  • pay taxes
  • draw a Chance or Community Chest card
  • end up in jail
  • relax in the free parking
  • receive a salary of 200 thousand rubles

Same number of points on both dice

If you roll the dice and both get the same number of points (a double), move your piece and act in accordance with the requirements of the field on which you find yourself. Then you have the right to roll the dice again. If you get the same number of points on both dice three times in a row, you immediately go to prison.

Passing the field "FORWARD"

Every time you stop or pass through the “FORWARD” field, moving in the direction indicated by the arrow, the Bank pays you 200 thousand rubles. It is possible to receive this amount twice in the same turn if, for example, you are on the Chance or Public Treasury space immediately after the “GO” space and draw a card that says “GO” to the “GO” space.

BUYING A PROPERTY

If you land on a space that represents unoccupied Property (i.e. a Building Lot for which no other player has a Title Deed), you will have the first buyer's right to purchase it. If you decide to buy Real Estate, pay the Bank the money in the amount indicated on this playing field. In exchange, you will receive a Document of Ownership of this Property, which you must place in front of you with the text facing up. If you decide not to buy the Property, the Banker must immediately put it up for auction and sell it to the highest bidder, starting from whatever price anyone else is willing to pay.
Even if you refused to purchase the Property at the original price, you can take part in the auction.

OWNERSHIP OF REAL ESTATE

Owning a Property gives you the right to collect rent from any tenants who stay in the space that marks it. It is very profitable to own all the Real Estate of one color group - in other words, own a monopoly. If you own the entire color group, you can build houses on any property of that color.

STAYING AT SOMEONE ELSE'S PROPERTY

If you stop at someone else's Property that was previously purchased by another player, you may be required to pay rent for that stop. The player who owns this Property must ask you to pay the rent before the next player rolls the dice. The amount payable is set out in the Title Deed for the Property and may vary depending on the number of buildings constructed thereon. If all the Properties of one color group are owned by one player, the rent charged to you for staying on any undeveloped property in that group is doubled. However, if the owner of an entire color group has a mortgage on at least one piece of the Property in that group, he cannot charge you double rent. If Houses and Hotels have been built on plots of the Real Estate, the rent increases as described in the Title Deed for that Real Estate. No rent will be charged for staying on the mortgaged Property.

STOPPING AT A UTILITY FIELD

If you stop at one of these fields, you can buy that Utility if it has not already been purchased by anyone. As with the purchase of other Real Estate, pay the Bank the amount indicated in this field. If this Property has already been purchased by another player, he can demand rent from you in accordance with the number of points that rolled on the dice when you made the move that brought you to this field. If the other player owns only one of the Utilities, the rent will be four times the number of points rolled on the dice. If he owns both Utilities, you will have to pay him an amount equal to ten times the number of points rolled. If you are placed on this space as a result of the instructions on the Chance or Community Chest card you drew, you must roll the dice to determine how much you will have to pay. If you decide not to buy this Property, the Banker puts the Utility Company up for auction and sells it to the highest bidder. You too can take part in the auction.

STOP AT THE STATION

If you are the first to stop at such a field, you will have the opportunity to buy this Station. If you do not want to, the Bank puts it up for auction, even if you refused to purchase at the original price, you can also take part in the auction. If the Station already has an owner, those who find themselves in it must pay the amount specified in the Document of Ownership. The amount to be paid depends on the number of other Stations owned by the player who owns the Station you are staying at.

STOP AT THE CHANCE AND PUBLIC TREASURY FIELD

Stopping on such a square means that you need to take the top card
from the corresponding pile. These cards may require that you:

  • moved your chip
  • paid money, for example, taxes
  • got money
  • went to prison
  • released from prison free of charge

You must immediately follow the instructions on the card and
place the card at the bottom of the corresponding pile. If you took the card,
which says “Get Out of Jail Free”, you can
leave it until you need it, or you can
sell it to another player at a negotiated price.

Note: The card may indicate what you must move
Your chip to another field. If while driving you pass through
field “FORWARD”, you will receive 200 thousand rubles. If you are sent to prison,
You don't go through the FORWARD field.

STOP AT THE TAX FIELD

If you choose such a field, you just need to pay the appropriate amount to the Bank.

FREE PARKING

If you stop on such a field, simply rest until your next move. You are here for free and are not subject to any penalties, you can enter into transactions as usual (for example, collect rent, build buildings on the Property you own, etc.).

Jail

You will be sent to prison if:

  • You will land on the “Go to Jail” box, or
  • You picked up a Chance or Public Treasury card with
it says “Go to Jail immediately” or
  • You have the same number of points on both dice three times
in a row in one move.

Your turn ends when you are sent to Jail. If you find yourself in Prison, a salary of 200 thousand rubles is not paid, no matter where you were previously. To get out of Prison, you need:

  • pay a fine of 50 thousand rubles and continue the game,
    when it’s your turn, or
  • buy a “Get Out of Jail Free” card from another player at a mutually agreed upon price and use it to
    to get free, or
  • use the “Get Out of Jail Free” card if
    You already have it, or
  • stay here, skipping your next three turns, but every time it’s your turn, roll the dice, and if on both
dice in one of these moves you will get a double, you will be able to leave
from the Prison and go through the number of fields that appear on the dice.

After you have missed three turns while in Prison, you must leave it and pay 50 thousand rubles before you can move your chip to the number of fields rolled on the dice. While in PRISON, you have the right to receive rent for your Property if it is not mortgaged. If you were not “sent to Prison”, but simply stopped at the “Prison” field during the game, you do not pay a fine, since you “Just visited” it. On your next turn, you can move on as usual.

At home

After you have collected all the Real Estate plots of the same color group, you can buy Houses to place them on any of the plots you have. This will increase the rent you can charge from tenants staying at your Property. The price of the House is indicated on the relevant Title Deed. You can buy houses during your turn or between other players' turns, but you must build up your plots evenly: you cannot build a second House on any of the plots of the same color group until you have built one House on each of the plots of this color group, the third - until they built two on each, and so on. The maximum number of houses on one site is four. Homes also need to be sold evenly. You can buy or sell houses at any time, and for as long as you see fit and as your financial situation allows. You cannot build houses if at least one plot of this color group is laid out. If you own all the Properties of one color group, and only have Houses built on one of the two lots, you can still receive double rent from a player who stays on any of the undeveloped Property lots of that color group, as indicated on the cards.

Hotels

Before you can buy Hotels, you need to have four Houses on each lot of a color group that is entirely yours. Hotels are bought in the same way as Houses, but they cost four houses, which are returned to the Bank, plus the price indicated in the Title Deed. Only one Hotel can be built on each site.

Lack of buildings

If there are no Houses left in the Bank, you will have to wait until one of the other participants returns their Houses to him. Likewise, if you sell Hotels, you cannot replace them with Houses unless there are any extra houses in the Bank.
If there are only a limited number of Houses or Hotels left in the Bank, and two or more players want to buy more buildings than the Bank has, the Banker puts the buildings up for auction to be sold to the highest bidder. In this case, for the starting price he takes the one indicated on the corresponding Document of Ownership.

Property For Sale

You can sell undeveloped Lots, Train Stations and Utilities to any player by entering into a private deal with them for an amount agreed upon between you. If there are any buildings on any of the Lots of the same color group, Lots of that color cannot be sold. If you want to sell any plot of a color group that belongs to you, first you need to sell to the Bank all the buildings located on the plots of this color group. Houses should be sold evenly, just as they were bought (see “Houses” above). Neither Houses nor Hotels can be sold to other players. They should be sold to the Bank at a price two times less than that indicated in the relevant Document of Ownership. Buildings can be sold at any time.
When selling the Hotel, the Bank pays you half the cost of the Hotel plus half the cost of the four Houses that were given to the Bank when purchasing the Hotel. All Hotels of the same color group must be sold at the same time.
If necessary, in order for you to receive money, Hotels can be replaced with Houses again. To do this, you need to sell the Hotel to the Bank and receive in return four Houses plus half the cost of the Hotel itself. Mortgaged Real Estate can only be sold to other players, but not to the Bank.

Pledge

If you have no money left, but need to pay debts, you can get money by mortgaging some Real Estate. To do this, first sell to the Bank all the buildings located on this Property Plot. In order to pledge the Real Estate, turn the Title Deed corresponding to the Property face down and receive from the Bank the pledge amount indicated on the back of the card. If you later want to pay off your debt to the Bank, you will need to pay this amount plus 10 percent on top.
If you mortgage any Property, it still belongs to you. No other player has the right to buy it from the Bank instead of you. Mortgaged Properties cannot be charged rent, although rent may still be due to you for other Properties in the same color group. You can sell the pledged Property to other players at a price agreed upon with them. The Buyer may then decide to repay the debt secured by the Property by depositing the appropriate amount of the deposit plus 10 percent with the Bank. He can also pay only 10 percent and leave the Property as collateral. In this case, upon final removal of the collateral, you will have to pay another 10 percent to the Bank. The opportunity to buy Houses at the regular price appears only after purchasing all, without exception, Lots of the same color group.

Bankruptcy

If you owe the Bank or other players more money than you can get from your assets, you are declared bankrupt and you are out of the game.
If you owe the Bank, the Bank receives all your money and Title Deeds. The banker then auctions off each of the Properties to the highest bidder.
You must place the Get Out of Jail Free cards at the bottom of the appropriate pile.
If you go bankrupt due to debts to another player, your Houses and Hotels are sold to the Bank for half their original value, and your creditor receives all the money, Title Deeds, and Get Out of Jail Free cards you have. If you have any mortgaged Real Estate, you must also transfer it to the lender, and he must immediately pay 10 percent on it to the Bank, and then decide whether to immediately buy it back or leave it mortgaged.

Game Notes

If you owe more rent than you have available on hand, you may pay your lender partly in cash and partly in Real Estate (i.e., undeveloped Building Lots). In this case, the lender, seeking additional construction opportunities or wanting to prevent another player from establishing control over a particular group of Lots, may agree to accept any Property (even if it is mortgaged) for a price much higher than indicated on the relevant card. The responsibility to collect rent for the Property lies with the owner.
Money can be given as a loan to the player only by the Bank and only on the security of Real Estate.
Neither player can borrow money from or lend money to another player.

Winner

The last participant remaining in the game is the winner.

RULES of the short game of Monopoly

If you know a little Monopoly game rules, then you can now play it faster with the help of the Quick Play Rules! In this game the rules are exactly the same as in Classic Monopoly, but there are three differences:

In the initial stage of the game, the Banker shuffles the cards for the right of Property. Then the player sitting to the left of the Banker removes the deck, after which the players are dealt one card each for the right of Property twice. If the Banker is also an ordinary player, then he distributes cards for the right of Property to himself. Players must immediately pay the stated price to the Bank for both Title Cards received. The game then continues according to standard rules.

In the shortened game, you must build only three Houses (instead of four) on each Lot of a color group before you can purchase a Hotel. The rent remains the same as in the standard game. When you sell a Hotel, the proceeds are half of the original cost, i.e. one House less than in a regular game.

End of the game Monopoly.

    Cash on hand.

The player's existing Lots, Utilities and Railways

Stations at the price indicated on the playing field.

Mortgaged property in the amount of half the price indicated on the playing field.

    Homes valued at purchase price.

Hotels valued at purchase price, including the value of the three Houses for which the Hotel was exchanged.

The richest player wins!

Game with time limit.

Before starting this version of the game, you need to agree on the end time of the game. The richest participant at the end of the game will win. Before starting the game, you need to shuffle the deck of cards for the right of Property and remove it. The Banker then deals two cards to each player, one card at a time. Participants immediately deposit the value of the Property issued to them into the Bank and the game continues according to standard rules m.

Remain the only non-bankrupt player.

Interesting fact, if you take your friends and ask them to list the board games they know without thinking, we bet they will be one of the first on the list. Since childhood, it has been on the lips of many and, as a rule, every third person has played it. The principle and rules of the game have not changed much over the past decades, but it is a game where each player adds something of his own to the rules.

The game is very famous, even “Mr. Monopoly” - the central figure from the Monopoly universe - was once the Man of the Year, and in England in the past, for about 20 days, there was an event where real real estate was bought and sold, and real cars rushed along the avenues, which were made to match the classic images from the 1946 tabletop set. During the 80s, this game had a clone - “Manager”; businessmen of that time had heard well about it, because it was very interesting to run a business and experience it in the game.

The essence of the game

The game mechanics, diluted with a simple and convenient model, shows the main points of the emergence of large economic structures: the purchase and sale of land, money circulation, competition, issues with the bank, work on obtaining loans, as well as relations between market participants. There is a large amount of randomness here, which makes Monopoly even more attractive. Your farsightedness, ability to manage resources, investing them wisely, as well as luck are of great importance. If you are lucky, you will quite often run away from competitors - but sound calculation and response actions are still much better, and your soul is somehow calmer.

Is this game so useful?

“With the help of Monopoly, the basic principle of the Smithsonian economy is achieved, and the Lyuli begin to understand that money is just a means to an end. It seems that the highest psychological aspect of the game is the realization that there is no need to save them, it is better to immediately invest in something. This is how a large number of successful people grew up on games like these.

A game of all times and peoples, it was one of the first to appear on store shelves in different countries and won the hearts of millions of people. Every self-respecting person should play it sooner or later. Some people begin to understand an interesting economic game in childhood, and others only after many years. You can buy Monopoly only because it will prove itself more than once in the cozy company of family or friends!

The Monopoly set includes: game rules, a playing field, game notes, a pair of dice, participant chips, chance cards, public treasury cards, real estate, utilities and railroad cards, as well as special cards for some game actions.

The essence of the game

The goal of the monopoly game is to remain the richest and try not to become bankrupt. After all, we know what a “monopoly” is; this term means a person or company that controls a huge part of a segment in one type of product or service or another. Therefore, the essence of the game comes down to becoming a monopolist.

Start

According to the rules, up to 8 people can play Monopoly. Each participant places his chip on the “Start” field. The first player to go is determined by rolling the dice, as usual, the one with the highest number goes first. All players are first given a certain amount of money, which they must manage wisely. For the convenience of working with the bank (the place from which salaries and various payments will be paid in the future), you should select one player who, in addition to the game, will issue currency and deal with banking matters. In addition to game currency, the bank has various cards confirming ownership of various real estate and services in the game.

Progress of the game

The first player rolls the dice and, depending on the result, moves forward the required number of fields. There are several different activities in Monopoly, the outcomes of which depend on the board where you land.

Same number on both dice

If, after throwing the dice, you get the same number, then you move the corresponding number of fields forward and after you perform an action on the field you are on, you have the opportunity to roll again. This action can only be performed twice; if the third time you get the same number, you will be sent to prison.

Passing the field "forward"

After passing the field forward, the player receives a salary. Monopoly has special cards that can give you a chance to move forward on the field and immediately receive a salary. Thus, if you are lucky, you can get rich in a few moves just by moving across this field.

Real estate

Once on a field with real estate, you can buy it for the specified price. If you don’t have enough finances, or you don’t want to buy it from the bank, it goes to auction, where any player can take part. You also have the right to participate in it, even if you refused to purchase before. Real estate gives the owner the right to collect rent from players who enter its field. Once you have seized control of all properties of the same color, you have the opportunity to build houses and hotels. If you enter a field with someone else's property, you will be charged a fee in the amount indicated on the card. If the opponent owns all the property of the same color, then the price doubles. Developed real estate requires payment of an even larger amount; all data is indicated on the document cards of the real estate in question. If the property is mortgaged, then the player does not have the right to take money for stopping on this field until he buys it back.

There are 3 types of utilities. If you find yourself on a field that does not belong to anyone with one of the services, you have the right to buy it, otherwise an auction begins. If you land on someone’s field with such a service, then you pay the amount of money multiplied by the total value that rolled on the dice before you landed on this field. If the opponent owns several such fields, then the pay coefficient increases.

Stations

Stopping at an empty space with a station allows you to buy it. A player who lands on someone else's station pays a certain amount, which depends on the total number of stations owned by the owner.

Field of Chance and Public Treasury

When stopping on these fields, the player takes the corresponding card from a special pile and performs the action that it prescribes for him.

Houses and hotels

Each player is given the right to buy houses on their plots. But the property in these areas must be purchased in full, that is, all streets of the same color must be yours. You can buy houses either on your own turn or before other players roll their dice. On each plot you can build up to 4 houses, and you need to build evenly; you cannot build 3 houses on one, and 1 on another. Until there is 1 house on each plot, it is prohibited to build second ones. Houses on the streets allow the owner to charge a premium. According to the rules of the game, there is a limited number of houses, so all controversial issues with the remaining houses are resolved by auction. Houses can be given to the bank as collateral and then bought back. Once all the streets of the same color are completely built up, you have the opportunity to build a hotel. To build a hotel you need to pay the amount indicated on the street card and return 4 houses from this street to the bank.

Pledge

If you run out of finances, you can pledge your property to the bank. The pledged property will still belong to you. No rent will be charged to other players for this property. If you want to return it, you will need to return the deposit amount + 10% to the bank. Pledged property can be traded with other players. If another player buys the pledged property from you, in order to return it he will have to contribute 20% of the cost.

If you don't have enough funds to pay the bank or another player, you become bankrupt. If you are bankrupted by a player, all your property is sold to the bank for half the price and all the money is given to the player. Your funds are also transferred to the player. If you had a mortgaged property, the other player must pay 10% to the bank and decide what to do with it.

The winner in Monopoly is the player who remains last.

DIY Monopoly

If you don't want to spend money on buying a game, or you just want to get acquainted with it, I suggest. It is better to print on colored paper and, if possible, protect the cards with tape. Chips and other gaming accessories can be easily replaced with various gizmos from everyday life. We think it won’t be a problem to find the cubes.

A few words about Monopoly

“Millions, or even billions, of people all over the world have played Monopoly since 1933. The game has been published in a large number of different versions, and there are about twenty translations into various languages. The principle and rules of the game, if compared with the original, which was written by Charles Darrow, have not changed, and anyone has the opportunity to read them, due to the fact that they are inside the game box. However, it is surprising that few people have any idea what they are talking about.

Why? To put it simply, from the very beginning of the publication of Monopoly, the rules of the game were passed down orally from generation to generation from father to son. The trend goes back even further, with grandfathers reciting the rules of old board games to their grandchildren, and nowadays we are required to think of Monopoly as a "game concept" with the most player-friendly rules.

Yes, most people do not use the “original” rules, but if you dig, then those rules that are inside the box with Monopoly are also not 100% original. This was established as a result of the research of Ralph Anspach, which he collected specifically to protect the rights to Antimonopoly, which he came up with in 1974.

Brief background

Beginning in 1933, Charles Darrow, a man who always had different ideas in his head, was temporarily out of work. It dawned on him to create a game, the name of which, as you probably already guessed, became . After he tried to show the game to Parker Brothers in 1934 and they found many design flaws, Darrow began creating and selling it himself. But in 1935, Parker Brothers' opinion changed and they received the authority to print Monopoly. After some time, their factory churned out copies of the game, the number of which reached 100,000 per month, which made Darrow the richest man. This story can be seen in the original Monopoly rules and is probably familiar to many fans. In truth, 29 years before Darrow's Monopoly, Elizabeth Maggie created a game called "The Landowner's Game" in order to make Henry George's "Single Tax Theory" more popular. The year was 1904, and the playing area of the "Landowner's Games" was similar to the Monopoly field, there were four railroads, two types of utilities, twenty-two stops where you could rent property, the well-known "prison", the "go to" cage prison”, as well as parking and others. After Maggie renewed the patent in 1924, the game contained the main principles of Monopoly. Surprisingly, decades before Charles, Maggie took this game to the same familiar Parker Brothers, but as you might guess, she was also refused. "The Landowner's Game" was never released (translator's note - Here the author of the article is wrong, they say that it existed in 1913 in England under the name "Brother Fox and Brer Rabbit"), if you do not take into account a couple of samples , which Princeton and Harvard students created with their own hands and added several changes to the original rules. These same changes created the second game with the big name “Finance”, developed by Lyman Dan. Most likely, Darrow’s friend played “Finance” and became acquainted with his creation.

A little about the rules of the game Monopoly

This is essentially what people know about Monopoly, and no one can say with certainty whether the rules of the game were appropriated by Charles, but it is still worth doubting it. It has already been proven that those rules that lie in each Monopoly box are not “original”, they are called the result of a long evolution of the rules that Elizabeth created, but it is also impossible to say that Elizabeth did not borrow this idea somewhere.

Next, only a few of the changes will be described, since there is not enough time to describe everything and it does not make sense, because it is worth noting that these changes are inherent in different countries and each country will have some of its own pitfalls, because the rules of monopoly began to change back in 19 century.

Most of the rules were “reprinted” for children, since they were not interested in playing with rules that were too complex, as they thought. After all, children are mainly interested in those games in which a lot depends on luck, and according to “those” rules, monopoly was not such. As we know, in the world of board games, children are special customers and this factor could not be ignored. Then these children grow up their own, and since the rules of the game are transferred with the person from his childhood, they are therefore passed on in the form in which they were first learned. That is why most people do not suspect that they are playing not according to the original rules, but according to those they remember from their childhood.

Before we touch on the rules, I’ll tell you a little about one story; it served as a prerequisite for how I began to consider this phenomenon. In 1987 I worked for Editrice Giochi, an organization that has been selling Monopoly in Italy since 1935-1936 (we will look at the interesting Italian history of Monopoly development later). At EG, we communicated with clients by phone, and I was one of the people receiving calls. I was already prepared for a bunch of calls from people who didn’t like that the game’s components were missing or that the rules weren’t right. But my expectations were not met; most of the calls were with questions about the rules of the game. For example, a group of young guys call and ask me to refresh their memory and clarify some information about the game. Imagine their surprise when it turned out that they were playing by completely different rules and did not even open the original ones. That is, what I want to say is that when people bought the game they simply forgot about the original rules and started playing according to their own, which someone taught them.

It seemed to me that only Italians had this, but later, when I had to work with foreign colleagues, I saw that such “house rules” are common in all countries.

There is one field where no action occurs: Free Parking. “Why did they make this useless stopping point,” most people think, because of this, the “house rules” did not avoid this problem. Here are the most popular ones:

When players have to pay a tax, instead of paying the bank, they write the money into the parking space. And if during someone’s turn that person lands on this field, then he takes for himself all the savings accumulated there. This rule even somehow adds interest to the game, since this action allows the player to withdraw the entire “bank” from taxes in one turn, and interest is only fueled, since no one knows who will be lucky this time. But since the monopoly rules are perfectly balanced and there can only be one winner in this game, the game can drag on, since “poor” players will be able to receive money even without having any real estate under their control. Therefore, the original rules are more thought out than the home rules.

There is one more rule that applies to the same parking field:

If during a player's turn he steps on this zone, he takes $100 from the bank as his hard earned money for completing half the circle. Typically this rule is combined with the following:

If during your turn you stand on the “Start” field, you take twice as much money as for completing the circle. It is not difficult to guess that in total all these rules greatly facilitate Monopoly and “achieving” bankruptcy in this situation is delayed.

The next house rule is:

If you stop on the “Parking” field, then you have the option to move the piece to any zone on the playing field. At the same time, if the “Start” field is passed, then you receive a salary. A rather unbalanced rule, the first parking rule described above is much clearer.

“Free Parking” once even served as a consequence of a separate add-on created by Parker Brothers in 1936 and it was called “Stock Exchange”. It included a “Stock Exchange” field, as you probably guessed, it replaced our “free parking”, several stock cards and “Go to the Stock Exchange” cards, these were mixed with the “Chance” cards. But the addition did not find its connoisseurs, so some people only had it for collection.

According to the rules of Monopoly, if you own all the real estate of the same color, then you have the opportunity to rebuild houses and hotels, but... But not everyone realizes that it “allows” these transactions not even during your turn. To perform this action, you need to warn your opponent about this before he rolls the dice. This rule is called one of the most important; it greatly influences the strategy and actions in the game.

Typically, participants play in a couple of different ways:

  • All activities related to the construction of houses and hotels are carried out only during your turn.
  • Transactions with houses and hotels can only be carried out when stopping at the required field.

The first rule is considered incorrect, since it removes the very concept of an “auction” from the game and when buying only during your turn, there is no competition, and players do not bargain for, say, the two remaining houses or hotels. This is a big strategic omission. The second rule can generally be said to be critically incorrect. Not only does the game drag on for n number of hours, but to get to the right field you need to rely only on luck.

One of the important rules of Monopoly is that there should be only 32 houses and 12 hotels. This is clearly not enough to build up all the streets, so competition in its pure form adds lively interest to the game. For example, owning inexpensive streets that can be quickly developed affects the overall strategy.

It is quite interesting to hear callers complain that they were not given enough houses and hotels. Most people who do not know the rules often accuse the publisher of greed.

It has very strict limits; according to the rules of the game, loans of any kind are prohibited. If you do not have enough funds to pay the tax to the bank or player, then you become bankrupt. All your property is taken by the bank (if you have not paid the tax) or by the player who deprived you of your fortune.

Also, the rule of not having credits also describes the fact that you do not have the right to give concessions to players when they ask “I’ll give it back in two turns” or something like that.

It is stupid to say that all this is observed. In home versions, almost no game is played without so-called credit relationships.

When House Rules Are "Official"

There is a country in the world where the so-called “house rules” have become official, the name of this country is Italy. In 1935, millionaire and founder of a large book business, Arnoldo Mondadori, purchased a copy of the game in the USA; he immediately took it to his personal translator, Emilio Ceretti. Arnoldo had no intention of publishing the game, so he gave Ceretti the chance to open his own business. In those days there were very difficult times in Italy; there was no way to use products with foreign names, much less publish them. The first thing Ceretti did was change the name of the game. It became known as "MonOpoli". During testing of the game, Ceretti changed several aspects of the rules, so the copyright of Italian Monopoly belongs to EG, this organization is still independent of Hasbro (owner of Parker Bros)."
