The creative path of Dan Balan / Dan Balan

Dan Balan Graduated from music school in accordion class. In 1993, he received a diploma from the Mihai Eminescu Lyceum. He was fond of music since childhood, played in the bands Pantheon, Inferialis and preferred the style of gothic doom metal.

“My parents, of course, saw that music interested me, but they could not even think that it would become my profession. Moreover, I told them about my choice in 1997, when there was not a single pop star in Moldova yet and you could be a musician either by playing in a symphony orchestra for 10 dollars a week, or at weddings. Both options ultimately meant beggary and starvation. And then I tell them that I am leaving the prestigious law university I just entered for the sake of music. Of course they were shocked!

In 1998 Dan Balan wrote his debut solo song De La Mine and a year later created a group O-Zone together with his friend Petru Zhelikhovsky.

“I knew that major record companies receive tons of demo tapes every day and the chances that they would choose my disc from this pile and listen to it are negligible. And I used a trick: I asked my mother, an incredibly impressive woman, to give the disk to the manager. I had no doubt that he would definitely be interested in what kind of music such a beauty writes. And so it happened. The deception, of course, was quickly revealed, but the material was so good that it no longer mattered: we started working with this company.

In two years Dan Balan and his new stage colleagues, Arseniy Toderas and Radu Sirbu, presented the album Number 1 to the audience.

The singles Numai Tu and Despre Tine became hits in Moldova and Romania. Then Dan Balan and group O-Zone recorded the composition Dragostea Din Tei, which brought the musicians worldwide fame. The song topped the European Hot 100 Singles chart for twelve weeks.

In 2005 the group O-Zone broke up, and its members took up solo projects. Dan Balan created a team called Balan. He also released the album The Power of Shower under the alias Crazy Loop in December 2007.

In 2009, the presentation of the Crazy Loop Mix disc took place in Chisinau, and a few months later the hit Chica Bomb took the top lines in the domestic charts. In the summer of 2010, Dan Balan performed the single Justify SEX, and in the fall, viewers heard the premiere of the composition “Petals of Tears” Dana Balana and Vera Brezhneva on Love Radio.

In the spring of 2011, the song Freedom was rotated on Radio NRG, and six months later the lyrical composition “Only Until the Morning” entered the charts of all radio stations in Russia.

In May 2012 Dan Balan released video clips for the singles “Not Loving” and “Love”.

To date Dan Balan He spends almost all his time in New York, where he has been collaborating with the Mercy recording studio since 2006.

In 2012 Dan Balan was presented among the nominees for the Muz-TV award in the “Best Performer” category, but the prize went to

Dan Balan's childhood

Until Dan was three years old, he lived with his grandmother Anastasia in Trebujeni. And the future musician’s mother was a presenter on television, so he is familiar with show business from the inside, as he often visited her at work.
Dan went to study at a theoretical lyceum, where he stayed until the eighth grade, then transferred to Gheorghi Asache.

Dan's family moved to Israel in 1994, the boy's father Mihai Balan became the Ambassador of Moldova to this country. A year and a half later, the young man returned to Chisinau in order to enter the Moldavian State University; his parents saw their son as a lawyer.
From an early age Dan was interested in music. He first performed on stage at the age of four, it was a show on television. And at the age of 11, Balan received an accordion as a gift. The boy began to play various waltzes and compose his own music.

He founded his first musical groups at the age of 18 - Pantheon and Inferialls, the music was a mixture of gothic-doom and metal. The groups broke up, the singer recorded the solo song “From Me.”

Group O-Zone

Dan Balan together with Petr Zhelikhovsky founded the group O-Zone in 1999. Balan became the band's producer and the author of music for all songs. The composition known to everyone as “Numa Numa song” hit the top of the charts in many countries around the world. In 2004, the single became the best-selling single in Europe, and a year later this happened in Japan. More than two hundred copies of this song have been made in fourteen languages. The next album, “But Where Are You,” was an undoubted success.
The new line-up of the group was formed in 2001. Arseniy Toderash and Rada Sirba began working with Balan. A year later, after concluding a contract with a Romanian record company, the trio released an album called “Number One”; several tracks from the record became real hits, both in Moldova and Romania.

The next album released by the group “DiscO-Zone” and the song “First Love” became significant for the group, as they brought real fame to the musicians almost all over the world.

Dan Balan in the world of rock

O-Zone ceased to exist in 2005, and each member of the group founded their own project. Balan decided to take up rock music, gathered musicians and went to Los Angeles. Jack Joseph Pui provided great assistance in creating the band's signature music; the first album was recorded together.

Since 2006, Balan has been performing as Crazy Loop, and a year later the album “Soul Energy” was released. And in 2009, in his homeland, he presented a joint work created under a pseudonym and his own name, the album is called “Crazy Loop Mix”.

The hit “Chica Bomb” blew up the radio airwaves and dance floors; this happened in 2010; six months later, his song “Justify SEX” topped the Russian chart. At the same time, the singer, together with Vera Brezhneva, performed the composition “Rose Petals”. In Russia, the following tracks topped the charts: “Freedom” and “Only Until the Morning.”
Currently, Dan Balan has signed a contract with Gala Records.

Balan's personal life
The singer’s first love was the strongest, at the age of 16 he studied with one girl, they sympathized with each other, but then Dan went abroad, and things never came to a relationship.
When the singer came home during the holidays, they had an affair, but upon returning the couple broke up, the feelings simply became obsolete.

Balan was credited with an affair with Vera Brezhneva, but it turned out that these were just rumors.
Currently, the singer, according to him, has a girlfriend, but Dan is in no hurry to reveal who she is.

Dan Balan is a young but very successful musician and poet, songwriter and creator of a popular group, born on 02/06/1979 in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau.

Childhood

Dan's parents are famous and successful people. Father Mihai is a diplomat and politician, mother Lyudmila is a popular TV presenter. The boy was born at a time when his mother was actively building her career, so even in infancy he was sent to the village to live with his grandparents.

When he was three years old, his parents took him to Chisinau and seriously began raising and educating the child. Moreover, he showed early musical abilities, which his mother tried to develop in every possible way. Having no one to leave the baby with for a long time, she often took him with her to filming, and thus he even managed to get on a children's television show.

At the age of four, Dan began learning to play the piano. And on his 11th birthday he received a great accordion. But the boy’s blue dream remained the synthesizer - in those years a rare and very expensive instrument. His parents promised to give him such a gift if he entered the law faculty of the university. The father was categorically against the boy becoming an artist.

Since Dan never had problems with his studies, he fulfilled his parents’ wishes and received a professional instrument. But he was not destined to become a lawyer. Having become acquainted with the students, the boy quickly found like-minded people and put together a small group. Since then, the guys spent all their time rehearsing.

Career

The student group "Inferialis" performed heavy compositions in the Gothic style, which were very popular among young people. They organized their first public performance in the mystical atmosphere of an abandoned industrial plant. It was attended not only by Dan’s friends, but also by his entire family, and he was very worried, anticipating his parents’ reaction to such music.

Dan was not mistaken in his expectations - his friends and acquaintances were delighted, but his mother and grandmother were completely horrified. Only the father was sympathetic to his son’s creativity and even bought him a new, even more advanced instrument. The group existed for two years and managed to become quite popular, but Dan quickly realized that only commercial music could bring real fame.

In 1999, Dan, together with another ex-member of “Inferialis” Petr Zhelikhovsky, left the group and created a new commercial project O-Zone. This group performed pop music and rap, which Zhelikhovsky read superbly. A few months after its creation, the band is already recording its debut album.

Of the 11 songs included in it, almost half immediately occupy the top lines of the charts, and the group becomes mega-popular. Moreover, some compositions end up in rotation on leading Moscow radio stations, and people in Russia are starting to talk about O-Zone.

Dan's popularity is growing rapidly. It is further enhanced by his mother’s launched children’s show, in which the artist takes an active part.

The sudden departure of lead singer Zhelikhovsky from the band was a stab in the back. Having received an offer to work on television, he, without hesitation, abandoned his musical career for the sake of it. But Dan didn’t even think about canceling the project. He arranged a strict casting and created a new line-up for the group.

A year later, O-Zone presented a new album with a new lineup. But it did not become as successful as the first one, although the video filmed for the song “Numai tu” was awarded a prestigious award from the Music awards. Dan realized that he urgently needed to change something and look for a niche in which there were no competitors. And such an original style was found a year later.

The composition “Despre Tine” brought simply stunning success. It became a super hit not only in Romania and Moldova, but also far beyond their borders. For this song, the group received several prestigious music awards, including international ones, and the guys began to actively tour around the country and abroad.

The new single “Dragostea dinTei”, which sold a total circulation of more than 12 million, consolidated the success and brought the artist worldwide fame. The name of Dan Balan became known in Russia, Great Britain and even distant Japan. The touring geography was rapidly expanding and already included dozens of countries. But, after existing for more than five years, this group also broke up.

Dan left for California and began preparing for a solo career. There he planned to take up rock again, but in an original performance. He selected the best musicians for his team, and leading American producers took part in the creation of songs. For the presentation, he chose the stage name Crazy Loop and shot his first solo video under it.

Balan made his debut with the new album in his native Chisinau in December 2009. And again he was successful. The artist’s new songs continued to occupy leading positions in the most prestigious charts, including Moscow ones. The artist realized that he had finally begun to move in the right direction.

In the fall of 2010, the singer performed the lyrical composition “Petals of Tears” in a duet with a popular pop singer, which immediately appeared at the top of the Russian charts. The song was broadcast more than half a million times and became the artist’s most performed composition.

Today, the singer continues to actively develop in the CIS and releases new compositions in Russian. However, he also creates English-language songs, successfully touring around the world. Now he is one of the most successful and promising music performers and young producers.

Personal life

The singer prefers not to advertise his personal life. Moreover, in his youth he experienced a whirlwind romance with his classmate. It so happened that barely realizing their feelings, the young people were forced to separate - Dan’s parents left for Israel and took him with them. Correspondence and telephone conversations were not enough to support children's feelings, and the romance quietly faded away.

Then the singer tried several more times to build a serious relationship, but his overly busy schedule and complete creative dedication did not contribute to this at all. Or, perhaps, he simply has not yet met the one with whom he wants to be no matter what.

The singer has his own home in New York overlooking the Empire State Building. Dan simply adores this apartment, but he only manages to visit it a few months a year. In his free time, he prefers to just lie on the couch and dream. However, the singer is also friendly with sports and keeps himself in excellent physical shape.

Dan Balan's rapidly developing solo career is very different from his work in the musical group, he literally opened up, and his hits (Only until the morning, "Chica Bomb") blew up the world of popular music!

Beautiful duets, enviable concerts and, of course, high-quality videos - the young performer can literally boast of all this, because his creativity is at its best!

Moldovan performer Dan Balan recently received recognized Russian awards and was identified as the sexiest singer of the Russian stage. What can I say, even the magnificent Vera Brezhneva herself, a Ukrainian beauty, agreed to sing a duet with him. And I was right, the success was stunning!

Articles about Dan Balan are full of information that the singer worked in Chisinau for quite a long time. There he truly became a star. However, being famous, Dan says that he rarely thought about such a future. Of course, the singer knew that his whole life would be connected with music. Dan was actively involved in his personal creativity. Parents truly did not devote much time to their child, since both mother and father were very busy people.

However, this even helped the young performer, since he could calmly choose his own path in life and the direction of his development. Nobody put pressure on him. Even when it came to choosing a higher educational institution, the singer was not at all worried that his parents would not support him in his endeavors, since his choice was entirely approved by his parents.

At the same time, the personal life of Dan Balan is of serious interest. Dan has a lot of fans who love him not only as a world-class singer, but also as a very charming guy. However, information about Dan Balan and his amorous affairs still comes out from time to time. So, it is obvious that Dan Balan’s personal life, like that of all people, is present and has its own significant stages. For example, as Balan himself claimed, there were three fatal women in his life with whom he had serious relationships. None of them were singers or other famous people. The performer liked them solely for themselves, just as they were. According to the singer himself, sometimes he is very surprised by the cunning tricks of fans who want to get a photo of Dan Balan.

Dan Balan regularly posts his photographs on social networks. As the singer himself says, he really likes to communicate with fans through this kind of sites. As for the winter holidays, for Dan they will, of course, be distinguished by a busy touring schedule. The artist celebrated the New Year on stage, which, surprisingly, he liked! The singer believes that celebrating such a celebration before or after is completely wrong, since that is the beauty of the New Year - celebrating it on time!

Dan Balan born on February 6, 1979 in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, in the family of Ambassador Mihai Balan and TV presenter Lyudmila Balan. At the age of 3-4 years, he came to his mother’s television and sang songs that he heard there. Later, he sang Russian hits, imagining himself on stage. In 1988 (in third grade) I tried my hand at poetry for the first time. At the age of 11, Dan received his first musical instrument - an accordion, which his father gave him, and then he began writing his own music, specifically waltzes.
He studied from 1st to 8th grade - at the Theoretical Lyceum "M. Eminescu", then (1993) at the Lyceum "Gheorghe Asaki". In 1994 (in connection with the appointment of his father as the representative of Moldova in Israel), Dan left for Israel, where he studied at the Tabeetha school for a year and a half. In 1996 he returns to Chisinau, graduates from the Gheorghe Asachi Lyceum and enters the Faculty of Law at the Moldavian State University. In 2001 Dan Balan reorganized O-Zone, taking on Arseniy Toderash and Radu Sirba. In 2002 the group signed a contract with a Romanian record company and released the album Number 1 (Russian Number 1). The songs Numai Tu (Numai Tu, Russian. Only You) and Despre Tine (Despre Tine, Russian. About You) became hits in Moldova and Romania. This was followed by the album DiscO-Zone (Russian: DiscО-Zone) with the world hit Dragostea Din Tei (Dragostya Din Tei, Russian: First Love or Russian: Love in Lipah). It was this song and album that brought the group unprecedented fame.

At the beginning of 2005 the O-Zone group ceased to exist, the members took up solo projects.
