The main characters of Andrei Platonov’s legendary story “The Multi-Colored Butterfly” are an old woman named Anisya and her son Timosha. Even when Anisya was young, her son Timosha loved to catch butterflies in the meadow not far from home. Sometimes, in pursuit of a butterfly, the boy got lost from sight. One day he did not return home, and since then Anisya has been waiting for his return.
People around her grew up, then grew old, died, and she continued to wait for her son, not paying attention to how many years had passed.
And her son Timosha became an involuntary prisoner of a mountain gorge from which there was no way out. One day he chased a colorful butterfly and fell into this gorge. The boy heard his mother calling him, but could not get out of the trap.
Then he decided to make his way home straight through the rock mass. He chiseled the mountain with strong stones and it took him many years. When Timosha finished his work and left the mountain to his mother, he became a blind, weak old man.
The mother, who had been waiting for her son for many years, recognized him and hugged him. Hugging her son, she wanted to convey all her love to him. And a miracle happened - the ancient old man turned into a little boy Timosha.
And happy Anisya, who waited for her son, died after that.
This is the summary of the story.
The main idea of Platonov’s legendary story “The Multi-Colored Butterfly” is that mother’s love can work miracles. Anisya, who waited for her son Timosha, who became a very old man, with her love managed to return him to childhood, and Timosha again became a little boy. The power of a mother is limitless.
The story teaches you to be persistent and never give up even in hopeless situations. Timosha, caught in a mountain trap, decided not to give up and began to break his way to freedom right in the rock mass. He knew that his mother was waiting for him. Timosha's persistence helped him escape from captivity and meet his mother.
The story teaches: when chasing colorful butterflies, do not lose ground under your feet, keep an eye on the situation!
