It has been announced that applications are being accepted for participation in the competition for the Russian National Literary Award “Manuscript of the Year”. Deadline April 26, 2011.

Organizer: publishing house "Astrel-SPb".

The nomination list is compiled automatically from manuscripts sent for consideration to the Astrel-SPb publishing house within one calendar year. These may be previously unpublished, copyright-free manuscripts, regardless of the year of their creation, or manuscripts already published by the Astrel-SPb publishing house. Publication on the Internet is not an obstacle to participation in the award.

The Main Prize, the Grand Prix, is also awarded.

The winner and laureates in each category, as well as the Grand Prix holder, receive the right to publish the manuscript in the Astrel-SPb publishing house with a circulation of at least 3,000 copies. The publishing house undertakes to provide pre-press preparation and distribution of the book. The works of the finalists are also subject to consideration by the Organizing Committee, although it does not make any preliminary commitments to them.

ANDREY BELY AWARD
The oldest independent literary prize in modern Russia - first awarded in 1978 by the editors of the Leningrad samizdat almanac “The Hours”. Since that time, in accordance with the changing eras, it has gone through several transformations, but has retained unchanged the spirit of nonconformism and focus on the new and unusual. And also a corresponding unique “prize fund”: a bottle of vodka, one apple and one ruble. Despite this, the award enjoys constant respect in the professional community.

LOST TRAM
All-Russian poetry competition “Lost Tram” named after N. S. Gumilyov. Organized by the Organizing Committee of the international literary festival “Petersburg Bridges” and literary festival “Pieter”.
Anyone can take part in the competition, regardless of age, place of residence, fame, professional training, membership in creative unions, etc., with the exception of authors who have previously been winners of this competition.
A selection of works for the competition can be submitted by its author or the nominating organization (in agreement with the author).
The prize fund for 2016 is expected to be 60 thousand rubles. In addition, the winner of the competition, in case of personal participation in the final evening, receives a commemorative medal with the image of N.S. Gumilyov. Selection of prize winners and selected works of competition finalists are published in the magazines “New Coast” and “Northern Aurora”.

RUSSIAN PRIZE
The Russian Prize was established in 2005 and is one of the five most prestigious Russian literary awards. Authors who write in Russian and permanently reside outside the Russian Federation can be nominated. A partially rotating jury awards prizes in three categories - “short prose”, “large prose” and “poetry”, as well as a special prize for the preservation of Russian literature abroad. Nomination of manuscripts and autonomy are allowed. The cash value of the first prize in each category is 150,000 rubles. A publishing program is provided, carried out in partnership with capital publishing houses.
Among its laureates are Bakhyt Kenzheev, Boris Khazanov, Natalya Gorbanevskaya, Yuz Aleshkovsky, Anastasia Afanasyeva, Marina Paley, Andrey Ivanov, Margarita Meklina, Vladimir Lorchenkov, Mariam Petrosyan, Marianna Goncharova, Dina Rubina, Andrey Polyakov and others.

The 2015 laureates will be announced in April 2016, but for now they are only known.

LITERARY PRIZE NAMED AFTER ALEXANDER PYATIGORSKY
Awarded for the best philosophical essay. Established in 2013 “to support interest in philosophizing outside the professional philosophical community.” A special feature of the prize is that both fiction and non-fiction works can be nominated, as well as those written in Russian and translated (in this latter case, it is divided between the author, if he is alive, and the translator). The right to nominate is given to 49 nominators, whose names are published on the award website. The jury is appointed by the supervisory board. The monetary part of the award is 1 million rubles.

In 2015, in the second season of the award, the prize fund doubled to two million rubles, since in 2014 the award was not awarded to any of the nominees. The short list included, and the prize for the best philosophical essay was received by translator Elena Dorman.

DETECTIVE WITHOUT BORDERS – 2016
International literary competition, organized by the Strelbitsky Multimedia Publishing House together with the Andronum Publishing Union.
The competition accepts works that meet the criteria of the “Detective” genre, written in any language, without restrictions.
The competition is apolitical and socially responsible. Texts containing profanity, scenes of violence, pornography, calls for war, national, religious or other intolerance, as well as immoral, offensive and degrading human dignity, etc., as well as texts with other content prohibited by law.
The main prize is 10,000 USD. 5 incentive bonuses of 500 USD. The works of the laureate, prize-winners and nominees are published at the expense of the publishing house.

CHILDREN'S LITERATURE

NEW CHILDREN'S BOOK
Established in 2009 by the children's publishing house Rosmen. First of all, to find new authors. In this regard, it allows and encourages self-nomination. The jury of the award consists mainly of Rosman employees and authors published there. There are three categories - for ages 2–8 years and 10–16 years, as well as (for artists). The main prize of the competition is a contract with Rosman to publish the winning book. However, editors sometimes take into work works from the short and long lists.

BOOK
All-Russian competition for the best literary work for children and youth, organized by the Center for the Support of Russian Literature (which holds the Big Book Award). “Kniguru” is the only competition in the world that accepts both artistic and educational works, and the final decision is made by an open jury consisting of readers aged 10 to 16 years.
The winner receives 500,000 rubles, the second and third place holders receive 300,000 and 200,000 rubles, respectively.

9. Longlist. Members of the Jury read all works included in the nomination list and collectively compose the Long List. Manuscripts nominated for the prize by nominators are automatically included in the longlist. The longlist is published in the media and/or the Internet.

10. Shortlist. From the Long List, the Jury selects no more than 10 manuscripts - this is how the Short List is formed. The shortlist is published in the media and/or the Internet.

11. Winners Announcement. Winners of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes, Grand Prix awards and winners in special nominations are determined by closed voting of the Jury members. Voting takes place before or during the Manuscript of the Year Award ceremony.

12. Bonuses. Winners of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes, Grand Prix awards and winners in special nominations receive the right to publish a manuscript in IG AST (Astrel-SPb) with a circulation of at least 3,000 copies. The publishing house undertakes to provide pre-press preparation, distribution of the book and a number of activities to promote the book within the AST holding. “In the beginning there were the Armenians and only then the light,” the writer Narine Abgaryan jokes. Her star quickly soared onto the literary horizon, and her very first book, Manyunya, became a laureate in the Language category in the Russian National Literary Award Manuscript of the Year.

- Narine, how did you start writing?

I never thought that I would become a writer. “Manyunya” was started as a short series of memories on LiveJournal on the Internet. The blog readers liked the stories, they encouraged me in every possible way and demanded that I continue, so I signed for two whole books. The first came out in August, and the second is in the printing house, we expect it by spring. The most amazing thing is that I didn’t even have to send the manuscript to publishing houses. My stories were recommended to the editor of Astrel-St. Petersburg, Irina Epifanova (Kopylova), by the talented St. Petersburg writer Lara Gall. Irina contacted me, and literally a month later we entered into an agreement with the publishing house. During the four months of its existence, “Manyunya” was reprinted twice, and to date it has sold ten thousand copies. The book turned out to be very funny and kind. It tells about my happy childhood.

- Tell me about your family, where are you from?

I was born in the small Armenian town of Berd. The town is lost high in the mountains, in the northeast of the republic. The people living in this town are very specific, terribly stubborn, and I couldn’t help but write about them. “Manyunya” is my declaration of endless love to my family, friends and the city where I was lucky enough to be born and grow up.

I moved to Moscow in 1993, immediately after graduating from Yerevan State Linguistic University. V.Ya.Bryusova. I consider Russia my second homeland, I deeply worry about all its failures, and rejoice at its successes. Parents, sisters and brother live in Armenia. Mom and dad are in Berd, they have no plans to leave. Recently, under fire, we went to visit our friends in the village of Aygedzor. Dad is a very devoted person to his homeland. Back in the terry Soviet years, he did everything in his power to ensure that in his hometown people remembered the history of their people and the tragic events that happened to us at the beginning of the last century. During the war, as a doctor, he fulfilled his civic duty on the border. I remember how our family came under bombing in an open field, there was nowhere to hide, my dad loaded us into the car and drove us home, because the shelling would soon start bringing in the wounded. And none of the children made a sound, everyone understood that there was war and people needed help. Dad took us to the shelter, and he himself went to the hospital under bombing. Ambulances drove around the town, howling, at breakneck speed. Crazy speed is a guarantee that there is a chance of not getting hit by a projectile flying at you.

- How come you remember your childhood so well?

Our childhood was abruptly ended by the collapse of the Soviet Union, a terrifying earthquake, and then war. Very difficult times came, the city in which we grew up was located in close proximity to the border with Azerbaijan, was bombed more than once, and was flooded with refugees from border villages and from the neighboring republic. The times have come completely different, terrible and difficult, and the brightness that was before the war was imprinted in the memory in the smallest detail. And my family is such that it doesn’t allow me to get bored or relax for a minute, so all sorts of adventures are our plan, yes!

- What will the second book be about, what will it be called?

The second book is called “Manyunya writes a science fiction novel.” In order to preserve Manyunin’s style of writing, my editor lay down on the embrasure and defended the title of the book with two grammatical errors. I don’t know if there is a book in the world with grammatical errors in the title, but if there wasn’t one, now there is. So rejoice, losers. And it’s a holiday on your street!

The second book is all about the same thing - about our funny and kind childhood in an era of total shortage, about the irresponsible behavior of girls of primary school age and about their unfortunate parents who got such obnoxious children.

- What would you like to say to our readers?

I'll tell you something simple - smile. Every day, hourly. Your morning reflection in the mirror, the children cutting new curtains into a clumsy pattern, the parents who care too much about you. Smile at the inspectors in the metro, and again at the pensioners in line at Social Security Services. Smile and you will be happy. Both you and everyone you smile at will be happy. Necessarily!
