The group has existed since September 29, 2004 (the date of the first Alai Oli concert in Yekaterinburg, at the PV club in Berezovsky). Around the same time, the first demo, “God is Love,” was recorded. From that moment on, the group has been actively performing in their hometown, and a few months later an offer was received from Moscow to perform at the “60th Anniversary of Bob Marley” festival in the Gorbunov House of Culture, on the same stage with five of the best reggae bands in Russia and Massive Attack vocalist Horace Andy .

Upon their return, Alai Oli give an interview and an acoustic concert on Radio Pilot, and a few weeks later they perform at the legendary Rock City club in Novosibirsk.

In the spring of 2005, a new concert program was ready, and the group recorded its second demo, which included the songs “Jamany”, “Don’t Go” and the song “Natasha”, which unexpectedly became a hit. It was from that concert that the group gained great support from fans, which is felt at all subsequent concerts in Moscow.

Returning to Yekaterinburg, Alai Oli realize that they are ready to begin work on their first album. The television company "Russia - Ural" puts a large studio at the group's disposal. To take part in the recording, Alexander Kosilov, trumpeter of the famous Moscow bands Da Bats and JahGun, comes to Yekaterinburg.

In the summer of that year, the group took part in the festivals “Heat” (Sysert), “SNR v On the Wave”, and as headliners at the festival in Krasnoturinsk. After Alai Oli HB - 2006, the group decides to stop performing live for half a year in order to devote themselves to working on the album.

Main

Also in November 2012, the album “Lullabies for Rudboy” was released, recorded in his own studio. In it, the group returned to its original sound - reggae, which could not but please the fans :)

And at the end of December and beginning of January 2012, the group released another EP - “Durge”, named after the title, which was written by Olga Marquez. It included 3 songs that were released gradually, as if in two installments.

The special sound and original lyrics of the Alai Oli group brought the participants unprecedented popularity. The creators managed to find a unique style that listeners soon fell in love with.

Group history and composition

The biography of the Alai Oli team began on September 29, 2004 in the city of Yekaterinburg. The founders and ideological inspirers of the group were Olga Marques and Alexander Shapovsky, connected by friendly relations. They decided to take the name from a fairy tale by soloist Marquez called “The Iron Lion.” According to the plot of the story, this phrase is translated as “bringing positivity.”

One day, a demo recording of the song came to the organizers of the Jah Factory festival. After the audition, the team was invited to perform on stage. An interesting point is that at that time there was no such group yet, so Olga and Alexander literally in 2 weeks put together a group that performed at the festival. They received a pass to the finals, winning the first listeners. Moreover, the participants were invited to perform in different cities of the country.

Olga Marquez became a soloist in the group; this is her first and only creation in the musical field. From early childhood, the girl was interested in writing poetry, and began writing her first songs in the 9th grade, without having a musical education.

The texts of the group's compositions are still written by Olga. The soloist’s special feature is often called her catchy “smiling” voice. And indeed, in an interview, Marquez admitted that she records songs with a smile.

The second founder, Alexander Shapovsky, plays bass guitar. Ruslan Gadzhimuradov is behind the drum kit, and Andrey Artemyev is behind the keys. Denis Kharlashin is responsible for the guitar, and Ilya Flugeltaub is responsible for the trumpet and flugelhorn. This is the famous group Alai Oli.

Each of them is not a session player, but a full-fledged member of the group who voluntarily invests time and effort into it. Musicians, not counting the founders, lead a busy creative life in other groups. The group rarely performs, which is why Alai Oli’s concerts are so bright and emotionally strong. The participants believe that if the team regularly tours, it will turn into work, which is contrary to the philosophy of Alai Oli.

Music

A key moment in the life of the group was an invitation to a concert dedicated to their birthday. The festival featured the country's leading reggae bands, as well as frontman Andy Horace.

Throughout the year after the official creation of the group, the members toured actively, taking part in many summer festivals. And at the beginning of 2006, Alai Oli performed at the Moscow club “Tochka” with an individual concert.

A year later, the first album entitled “Yes, Bro?” was released, opening the way for musicians to large venues and festivals. By the end of 2008, the participants presented fans with their second album, “Snowy Barcelona,” which received a favorable response from listeners.

Significant events in the life of the group were the move from their hometown to St. Petersburg after meeting art manager Artyom Dertev and a performance at the Green Theater venue in the capital of Russia.

Song “Wings” by the group “Alai Oli”

After Ilya Flugeltaub, a trumpeter with a classical musical education, joined the band, the recognizable rhythms of Alai Oli were finally formed. As for the genre of music, the group is usually classified as reggae-ska due to the fact that both directions are present in the group’s tracks, despite their apparent similarity.

The lead singer of the group admits that Alai Oli play “conventional” reggae, and the sound is more Ural music, the essence of which is folk and simplicity.

For two years the group toured the vast expanses of their homeland and beyond – in European cities. At the end of 2011, Alai Oli presented its third studio album, Satta Massagana. This release became a turning point for the musicians, since after it the team developed a new sound, which was built naturally, absorbing a lot of light and a drop of mysticism.

Alai Oli celebrated its significant anniversary – 10 years – with big concerts in its native Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg and Moscow. In the spring of 2015, the team performed with a symphony orchestra, the program of which was invented and implemented by trumpeter Ilya.

Song “Three Stripes” by the group “Alai Oli” (cover of “Animal Jazz”)

Around the same time, work is underway on the upcoming release. In the new album “Balance and Depth” Alai Oli embodies the absolute balance of the light and dark sides of the world. The album was released in two versions: the “blue” version is a high-quality and clear production, and the “red” version is more of a “tube” format. At this time, Alai Oli recorded a cover of a hit called “Three Stripes”.

In December 2017, the group presented the mini-album “Oshhh” on the Internet, which included 3 tracks. Along with the new material, Alai Oli released a video for the title track.

Alai Oli now

The Alai Oli group continues to create wonderful music and delight listeners with new songs, expanding their discography. In the spring of 2018, the single “The City Doesn’t Accept” was released, recorded together with a member of the group. The song was included in the Chart Dozen hit parade on Nashe Radio.

Film "Alise" from the group "Alai Oli"

At the same time, the team presented a “non-film” called “Alise,” directed by Vitaly Akimov. A little later, the group released a music album of the same name, which is an archetype at the center of several stories combined into one. Alice is not a fictional character and not one person; the dialogues in the visual album are recorded on a voice recorder or cameras.

Since the material has a ring composition, each chapter can appear first, each can appear last. Therefore, history has no beginning and no end.

In the summer of 2018, the group performed a concert in St. Petersburg at the large-scale festival “Peter, I love you.”

Alai Oli recently expressed a desire to make a short tour in May 2019 in Kamchatka and the Far East. The details of the tour are not yet known, since the concert program has not yet been formed.

A group was formed Alai Oli September 29, 2004 in Yekaterinburg. The founders are considered to be the lead singer of the group Olga Marquez and bass player Alexander Shapovsky who have been friends for many years. Style Alai Oli can be classified as reggae-ska, since both directions are present in the group’s songs, although they are quite similar.

The name Alai Oli was taken from the fairy tale “The Iron Lion” by lead singer Olga Marquez. Alai Oli literally means “to bring positivity.”

Already in September 2004, the group performed at the reggae festival “Factory Jah” thanks to the fact that the demo recording of the song got to the organizers of the festival. Naturally, the organizers liked the song, after which the group was invited to perform on stage. It is interesting that at this moment the group itself Alai Oli did not exist - in just two weeks, Olga Marques and Alexander Shapovsky assembled a team that performed at the festival! The group reached the finals of the festival and won its first fans, and also received several invitations to perform in different cities of our country.

But, perhaps, the key moment was the invitation a few months later to a concert dedicated to Bob Marley’s birthday on the Gorbushka stage. The country's leading reggae bands, as well as Andy Horace, were invited to this festival.

Soon the group performed an acoustic concert on Radio Pilot, and gave a concert at the Rock City club (Novosibirsk).

In 2005, the guys recorded new songs, among them: “Jamany”, “Don’t Go” and “Natasha”.

In 2006, a second percussionist and saxophonist joined the group. The group gives a concert at the Tochka club, which became extremely successful. From this moment on, the group begins to work on the first album " Yes, Bro?" The Rossiya-Ural television company came to the aid of Alai Oli, which provided the group with a studio to record the album.

In the summer of 2006, Alai Oli performed at the Zhara festival and gave a concert at the SNR v On the Wave festival.

Just six months later, the first album “” was released, including 13 tracks. And then everything went from strength to strength for Alai Oli - a performance in 2007 at the B1 Maximum club with Lee Perry; in 2009 - performance with Manu Chao at the Green Theater.

At the end of 2008, Alai Oli released her second album “ " Both albums were released with the band's personal funds. Since 2009, Alai Oli moved from Yekaterinburg to St. Petersburg. The lyrics are written by Olga Marques.

In December 2011, the group released their third official album entitled "". The band's lead singer Olga Marques described the new album as follows: “The Satta Massagana album is different from those albums that were written after school. Sing every time that everything is fine, when in fact you are tormented by doubts and torment more and more heavily. In this album I am who I am. If you don't like this album, then you don't like me. But this is not bad - it is impossible to please everyone. It’s stupid to expect the world to accept you as you are if you constantly wear masks.”

In March 2012, the group released a mini-album ““, which included the tracks: “The Main Thing,” “Sparks” and “Fucking Space.”

In November 2012, Alai Oli published her fourth album entitled "", which included tracks previously performed at concerts. “Rudboy Lullabies” is very different in style from “Satta Massagana” and takes Alai Oli back to where they started and what made them loved on the Internet.

In December 2012, the group made a New Year's gift for their fans by releasing the mini-album "Durge", the title of which was taken from the book by Oli Marquez.

Currently, the Alai Oli group is conducting tours in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
