Expensive modern 10 ruble coins. What are the most expensive Russian coins: their value and photos
Perhaps the most famous collection of coins in Russia. The basis of the collection is commemorative coins in denomination of 10 rubles. However, an equally large part of the collection consists of coins of 1, 2, 5 and 25 rubles. There are options in special colors.
Many of my readers started with this collection. I think everyone in Russia has at least once received one of the anniversary coins as change. Prices for large mintage coins start at 30 rubles. Prices for individual copies of limited editions reach several tens of thousands of rubles.

Commemorative 10 ruble coins have become very popular in Russia
In recent years, ten-ruble commemorative coins have become very popular. Their popularity has led to the fact that it is almost impossible to find coins in circulation. Almost all the latest coins have to be simply purchased. I am sure that the same situation will continue in the future.
Almost all commemorative coins are bought in bags at banks, post offices and similar establishments, where the coins are supplied directly from the Mint. Next, resellers handle sales. There are wholesalers who also resell coins in bags to online stores. And there are retailers who sell coins at 3 or more times their face value. Therefore, almost all modern anniversary items are of sack quality.

Catalog of Russian commemorative coins issued since 1999 is constantly updated, as the Central Bank mints new coins every year. Don't forget to follow the changes. Specific commemorative coins are added as they become available. The dynamism of the collection has its drawbacks. Its limitlessness makes the list of coins too large. Every year dozens of new coins are added, the table is already printed on seven sheets.
The list of modern commemorative coins also has its own rare and expensive coins. This is due, as always, to small print runs. The usual circulation of the coin is from 2 to 10 million pieces. However, the collection has more and more variants with a circulation of only a few thousand.

* Comment on the symbol:
- MD - mint;
- SPMD - St. Petersburg Mint;
- B/B - without mint designation letters;
- Circulation marked with an asterisk *. If the mintage is highlighted and appears under an asterisk, it means that this quantity of coin was issued by both mints. But not necessarily in equal quantities.
- "Dates and Events" is my unofficial grouping of coins that either do not belong to any stated series or have only one base metal coin in the series.
Separately, I would like to highlight the coins-medals “Russian athletes-champions and prize-winners of the Games of the XXX Olympic Games 2012 in London”. Why the medals were classified as commemorative coins, I still don’t understand.
Related coin collections and interesting articles
During the same period, modern Russian small change coins were issued and continue to be minted. The simplest and most interesting collection, especially for beginning numismatists.
The previous collection was commemorative coins of 1992-93, which were minted since 1992 after the collapse of the USSR, commemorative coins of Russia, which were minted since 1992.
The mintage of modern commemorative coins often changed, so new rarities appeared. In addition, circulation data is not always accurate for mints. There is a separate article about this.

This article will talk about rare anniversary ten-ruble coins. They are called rare because they were minted in a smaller circulation than planned. Therefore, such coins are almost never found. But it should be noted that other commemorative coins issued in large quantities are also extremely rare in circulation.
The most expensive anniversary 10 rubles
Among the rare anniversary tens, only four should be given preference. The tariff for them is the highest among the group of coins “Russian Federation”; they were issued in 2010 in small editions. Initially, the Bank of Russia expected to issue 10 million pieces of each coin, but for unknown reasons this number was reduced, which in turn prompted numismatists to collect new collections. Perhaps the Bank of Russia presented this kind of gift to its collectors so that they would not sit idle.
We consider rare 10 rubles in order of increasing prices for them at auctions and numismatist forums
10 rubles Nenets Autonomous Okrug
So, the first in line and less rare coin is the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Among the line of rare commemorative coins, its circulation is the largest - 1 million 950 thousand units. On the reverse side is the coat of arms of the Autonomous Okrug, and around its circumference there are two marks: “Russian Federation” and “Nenets Autonomous Okrug”. The exchange rate for this money exceeds its face value, but is significantly less compared to the other three rare anniversary tens and ranges from 100 to 350 rubles according to various sources. |

Coin price:  from 100 to 500 rubles |
In second place is the Perm Territory coin. There were significantly fewer of them produced - 200 thousand pieces. Accordingly, its cost is higher than the previous one. The author of the site gives the price for this coin, varying from 500 to 3500 rubles. But at flea markets there were coins worth less than 500 rubles. The coat of arms of the Perm region is engraved on the reverse side. The upper inscription on the circle is the same as on the previous ten anniversary, and the lower one is “Perm Region”. |
||
Coin price:  from 500 to 3500 rubles |
The next most rare is the Chechen Republic. 100,000 units minted. On the back is the corresponding coat of arms of the republic, and on the border there are the same marks: “Russian Federation” and “Chechen Republic”. Due to the small issue of the anniversary coin, a stir immediately began to arise around it among collection lovers. And this happened because in 2012 a seller or several sellers were found who began selling Chechen anniversary ten-ruble coins for 2 thousand and below. Although the original price was 3000–3200 rubles for one coin in perfect condition. | ||
Coin price:  from 5,000 to 10,000 rubles |
||
It turns out that they are available, but someone is saving them in private basements and does not put them into circulation. Thus, we see that the number of coins issued has nothing to do with it. Judging by the conversations, this someone purchased the entire issue at face value, creating a stir and his own exchange rate for the available coins. If you do the math, it turns out that the 100,000th circulation of 10-ruble coins at face value cost him 1 million rubles, and from this amount he raised the price 300-400 times, making a very good profit. This is how the reset for this commemorative coin took place. Over time, the excitement decreased and so did the demand for coins with the image of the Chechen Republic. Due to the fall of the ruble, the cost of the coin has increased again, and it is virtually impossible to find it for less than 5,000 rubles. But it has become more likely to meet a price of up to 7,500 rubles. |
||
Production of 100 thousand units. On the reverse side the symbols of the Autonomous Okrug are imprinted, and the corresponding inscriptions are framed around the circle. Despite the small issue, this coin did not create any hype around itself, since there was no reset on it. Immediately after minting, the price was set at 2,000 rubles; currently at numismatist auctions it is approximately 9,000–10,000 rubles. |

Coin price:  from 9000 to 13000 rubles |
Time does not stand still. Likewise, commemorative coins go out of circulation over time and acquire the status of rare, despite the number issued. For example, an anniversary ruble with A.S. Pushkin, or a two-ruble coin with Yuri Gagarin, coins from the Ministry group are almost impossible to find in your wallet. They are in circulation, but have become quite rare compared to the situation five years ago. Over time, say, in another 5–10 years, they will completely go out of circulation and join the ranks of private collections.
So, if a new coin appears in circulation, then you need to take advantage of the moment and add it to your collection, otherwise you will then have to pay a tidy sum for it, as in the case of the ten-ruble anniversary coin “Chechen Republic”.
The entire list of commemorative coins can be found in the table below.
Commemorative coins of Russialist and cost of commemorative coins |
Russian commemorative coins with a face value of 10 rubles are in high demand among collectors, and many people who are far from numismatics are happy to keep them as bright memorable souvenirs. The popularity of these coins is due to their original design, relevance of the theme, accessibility and quite reasonable price. And also by the fact that the list of anniversary 10 ruble coins is updated annually.
Bimetallic commemorative coins 10 rubles, 2000 and 2001.
Bimetallic coins began to be issued again only in 2000. The first to start the list of anniversary 10 rubles was a coin dedicated to. And the following year, 2001, another significant anniversary for the country was celebrated with the release of a ten-ruble coin.
Both of them sold 20 million copies. Production took place at both the Moscow and St. Petersburg mints. 10 million were minted on each; as a result, the coins have two varieties, distinguished by monograms indicating the place of minting. (MMD and SPMD). You can currently buy them at a price of about 100 - 120 rubles.
New bimetallic coins began to differ significantly from those that were previously issued before 1992. Firstly, they became larger, the diameter increased (27 mm against the previous 25), and secondly, the combination of metals changed: the center began to be made of a white copper-nickel alloy (nickel silver), and the surrounding disk, on the contrary, became brass (yellow copper-nickel). zinc alloy).
The resulting highly artistic solution used in the design of the coins was very much to the liking of numismatics lovers. We can say that the success of these 2 coins among collectors and the entire population finally determined the design of subsequent anniversaries made of non-precious metals, intended for mass monetary circulation. And from that time on, issues of commemorative anniversary coins became annual.
Serial 10 ruble commemorative coins, since 2002.
Already in June 2002, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issued the first three coins of the series - Staraya Russa, Derbent and Kostroma. And three months later, seven anniversary ten-ruble notes dedicated to . The circulation of each of them was 5 million copies. The cost of coins dedicated to ancient Russian cities 2002 - 2006. - 100 rubles, issues of 2007 - 2009 are valued at 200 - 300, later ones are valued at 100 rubles.
In subsequent years, issues of bimetallic coins dedicated to the ancient cities of Russia continued: on average, 3 - 4 coins are issued per year. In 2005, a commemorative 10 ruble coin dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Victory was released in a huge circulation of 60 million pieces. And from the same year, the minting of a new, rather extensive geographical series began - which is dedicated to the subjects of the Federation, regions, territories, republics (circulations of 10 million pieces each). Considering that there are 85 subjects of the Russian Federation, then it will continue for at least a year until 2025. The price for coins of the “Regions of the Russian Federation” series is 30 - 40 rubles.
In 2010, a very unpleasant situation occurred with the release of this series. For some unknown reason (perhaps there were not enough bimetallic circles), instead of the stated 10 million, the circulation of some coins was only 100 thousand copies, i.e. a hundred times less. This has led to the fact that the collection value has increased significantly, so a coin dedicated to the Chechen Republic can now only be purchased at a price of 7,000 rubles, and the “Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug” is difficult to buy at a cost of less than 10,000 rubles.
Then, in 2010, coins based on copper alloys were finally forced out of monetary circulation; they were replaced by steel ones - with nickel or brass coating. Since that time, the minting of bimetallic anniversary 10 ruble coins has ceased, with the exception of those included in the “Ancient Cities” and “Subjects of the Russian Federation” series. New anniversaries began to be minted on steel blanks with a diameter of 22 mm, with brass galvanizing, like the 10 ruble coins in regular circulation
According to the plan for issuing commemorative coins for 2017, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation will issue bimetallic coins of the “Russian Federation” and “Ancient Cities of Russia” series made of steel with galvanic coatings. But in 2017, the issue of ordinary steel coins with brass galvanizing will still continue; coins dedicated to the Hero Cities of Kerch and Sevastopol will be released in this design. New bimetallic coins will have both the ring and center magnetic. The obvious reason for the future appearance of magnetic bimetal is to reduce the cost of the manufacturing process of this type of coin.
Steel commemorative coins of 10 rubles, issued since 2010
The first in the catalog of anniversary 10 ruble coins with a new design were copies dedicated to (65 years in 2010) and the flight of Yu. Gagarin (50 years in 2011). Then, in 2012, two coins were issued: in memory of the 1150th anniversary of Russian statehood and the 200th anniversary of the victory. In 2013, numismatists' collections were replenished with issues for (2 pieces) and the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad. But the most notable event was the beginning of the minting of a new coin series (since 2011) - the current price for which is quite affordable and does not exceed 30 rubles.
For collectors interested in varieties, I note that in the period from 2007 to 2009, coins were minted simultaneously SPMD and MMD. As a result, in numismatic catalogs and lists of 10 ruble anniversary coins, 18 varieties appeared, differing only in the monogram - the designation of the mint. After this period, regular coinage was carried out only on SPMD.
Commemorative coins of 10 rubles are the most popular among collectors; in addition to being very beautiful and original, they are also very educational. All together, this serves as a guarantee of not subsiding, but, on the contrary, ever-growing interest in numismatics. Market traders of various numismatic products did not stand aside from this surge of interest. This is how a fairly large offer of albums for ten ruble anniversary coins appeared, which have a wide variety of designs and are designed to accommodate coins both by year of issue and by size and series. At the same time, other denominations of 1, 2 and 5 rubles, as well as Sochi 25 rubles, are not forgotten.
Every year, for each coin series, colorfully designed official booklets of the Central Bank are issued, including a commemorative token and commemorative coins of the current year of issue in the selection.
What affects the cost of commemorative coins with a face value of 10 rubles
True, now almost everything is already being bought up at the root by “bugs” - dealers and then sold to “bugs” - resellers, in these bags of 500 pieces.
The cost of commemorative coins consists of several components. Initially, we note that the bulk of the circulation of coins “Regions of the Russian Federation” is sent to those republics and regions to which specific coins are dedicated. It is clear that in the Far East it is easier to find coins dedicated to Primorye or the Sakhalin region. There they can give it as change, but in the west of the country they will gladly buy them and several times more expensive than the face value. The formation of market prices for commemorative coins largely depends on such unevenness.
The cost of coins is also significantly affected by their safety; coins are in AC condition, i.e. fresh from a bank bag, without the slightest nicks or abrasions, they are valued significantly more than those that went into wallets and pockets.
Over time, coins are “washed out” of circulation (set aside as a souvenir) and begin to be found less and less often, which also increases the cost of commemorative coins, so that issues from the beginning of 2000 now cost collectors many times more than those issued not so long ago.
The circulation of the coin is also of great importance. For example, bimetallic commemorative coins of 10 rubles of the “Ministries” and “Ancient Cities of Russia” series, minted in circulations of 5 million pieces, cost slightly higher than coins of the “Regions of the Russian Federation” series, which are issued in circulations twice as large.
In addition, among the commemorative coins there are quite rare varieties and defects that occur during minting. They don't come across very often and cost a lot accordingly. So, part of the 2013 anniversary coins - North Ossetia were mistakenly issued with a edge intended for 25 ruble Olympic coins having exactly the same size. That is, instead of frequent corrugations of 300 narrow stripes, 180 wider ones are applied to them. This is clearly visible when examining the coin; such a “mistake” costs collectors more than 1,500 rubles.
At some auctions, with a very decent starting price, defective 10 ruble anniversary coins are sold, which were twice subjected to the press that minted them and received a strong shift when applying the second image. But there are lovers who are willing to pay a price of more than 10,000 rubles for such a defective coin.
List of the rarest commemorative coins in denomination of 10 rubles, which are of high value.
They are minted to commemorate unforgettable events, in honor of significant dates and anniversaries. On their reverses is an image dedicated to the declared event, person, city, region.
Commemorative coins of 10 rubles are always valued at more than their face value. The collectible value of mass-circulation coins is two to three times higher than indicated. The prices of unique copies of 10-ruble coins exceed the established value hundreds of times.
How the price of 10 ruble commemorative coins is determined
Jubilee banknotes from base metals of 10-ruble denomination have been produced in Russia since 2000. They are minted by two mints - in Moscow (MMD) and St. Petersburg (SPMD).
Collectible prices for anniversary metal 10-ruble notes depend on various factors.
- circulation - the prices are higher, the fewer copies there are;
- year of manufacture - “age” raises the price;
- features of coinage and/or material. For example, a non-standard edge pattern increases the cost;
- state (degree of preservation). A collectible coin removed from circulation is valued lower. They pay more for banknotes that have escaped circulation (“bag”) - they have no signs of wear, deformation, or mechanical damage;
- mint. One series can be minted in two mints, and identical coins with different trademarks will be valued differently;
The price of 10 ruble commemorative coins is also influenced by the methods of sale/purchase - auctions, online stores, by hand, etc.
The group of the rarest and most expensive anniversary coins includes three 10-ruble coins (Russian Federation series, minted in 2010):
- “Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug” (100 thousand copies),
- “Chechen Republic” (100 thousand copies),
- “Perm region” (200 thousand copies).
Among numismatists they are known by the abbreviation “CHYAP”.
The bimetallic series of commemorative coins 10 rubles “Russian Federation” has been created since 2005. Dedicated to the administrative-territorial units of Russia. Out of 85 regions - regions, territories, autonomous republics and districts - 10-ruble coins were printed in honor of 40 subjects. The fortieth coin was “Belgorod Region” (issued on March 15, 2016).
The high price of CHYAP coins is determined primarily by the circulation volume. Average price of 10-ruble private equity shares at auctions held in March 2016:
— 10 rubles “Perm region”» – 4000-6000 rubles;
— 10 rubles “Republic of Chechnya”– 10,000-12,000 rub. ;
— 10 rubles “Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug”– 17,000-20,000 rub.
The cost of 10 ruble coins “Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug” exceeds the price of coins dedicated to Chechnya, with the same circulation, because some of them are in circulation and, as a result, there are fewer high-quality banknotes left. The bulk of the 10-ruble coins dedicated to Chechnya have never entered circulation and are in the hands of resellers.
It is impossible to indicate exactly how much the 10 ruble anniversary coin costs. Prices fluctuate: at auctions or in online stores they are different.
Other valuable coins 10 rubles
The group of expensive anniversary 10-ruble notes included some copies of the coin minted in honor of North Ossetia-Alania (2013), issued in a 10-million circulation. Average auction prices at the end of March 2016 for commemorative coins 10 rubles “Republic of North Ossetia-Alania”: with an error in the edge - 1000 rubles, for a magnetic coin - 3000 rubles. In online stores, a coin made from a magnet is valued at 6,000 rubles.
