World Festival of Youth and Students. World Festival of Youth and Students

The World Festival of Youth and Students is a unique platform where young people from around the world jointly develop an image of the future of the entire Earth.

The issue of holding a major meeting of youth representatives from all over the world was first discussed at the World Youth Conference in London (Great Britain) in 1945, where the creation of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFYD) was announced.

The creation of the WFDY was followed by the establishment of the International Union of Students (ISU) in Prague (Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic) in August 1946.

During the joint activities of the MSU and the WFDY in 1947, the organizations made a historic decision to hold the First World Festival of Youth and Students.

The I World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) was held from July 25 to August 16, 1947 in Prague (Czechoslovakia). The II WFMS took place in 1949 in Budapest (Hungary); III VFMS - in 1951 in Berlin (GDR), IV - in 1953 in Bucharest (Romania); V - in 1955 in Warsaw (Poland); VI - in 1957 in Moscow (USSR); VII - in 1959 in Vienna (Austria); VIII - in 1962 in Helsinki (Finland); IX - in 1968 in Sofia (Bulgaria); X - in 1973 in Berlin (GDR); XI - in 1978 in Havana (Cuba); XII - in 1985 in Moscow (USSR); XIII - in 1989 in Pyongyang (DPRK); XIV - in 1997 in Havana (Cuba).

The festival was also hosted by Algeria (XV WFMS, 2001), Venezuela (XVI WFMS, 2005), South Africa (XVII WFMS, 2010) and Ecuador (XVIII WFMS, 2013).

Moscow has twice hosted the World Festival of Youth and Students. The 1957 festival was attended by 34 thousand people. Under the slogan “For Peace and Friendship,” it united young representatives from 131 countries. The Moscow festival became one of the largest cultural and political events of several post-war decades.

The 1985 festival, held under the slogan “For anti-imperialist solidarity, peace and friendship,” was attended by 26 thousand young people. At 15 specialized platforms they discussed various problems - from disarmament and interethnic to economic and environmental. This festival has become the most representative in terms of the diversity of political and public organizations and their concepts.

The festival is organized by its founder, the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFYD) and the National Preparatory Committee of the host country.

The decision to hold WFYS 2017 was made on February 7, 2016 by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFYD) and international student organizations.

The slogan of the festival: “For peace, solidarity and social justice, we fight against imperialism - by respecting our past, we are building our future!”

The start of the WFMS 2017 will be given by the International Student Parade on October 14 in Moscow. Key events will take place from October 14 to 22, 2017 in the Sochi Olympic Park.

The Festival program consists of a discussion program, a campus (a common space for participants in all thematic areas of the program, combining educational, educational and leisure activities) and a series of scientific, educational and educational events, including panel discussions, lectures, conferences, master classes and workshops.

For the first time in the history of the festival movement, the entire country will be involved in the grandiose youth festival. As part of the festival, from October 14 to 17, 2017, a regional program is planned for more than 1.5 thousand foreign participants. Closing ceremony of the Festival of Youth and Students
On October 21, the closing ceremony of the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students took place. In fact, it consisted of two parts: first, the grand show “Russia” took place at Medals Plaza, introducing those gathered to the cultural diversity of the peoples inhabiting our country, and then the final performance took place at the Bolshoi Ice Palace, the main characters of which were the forum participants themselves. .

Vladimir Putin greeted those gathered at the Rossiya show. The President of the Russian Federation expressed hope that the festival week would benefit almost 30 thousand young people from all over the world. “I am sure that when you leave Russia, you will leave a piece of your heart here. But Russia will always remain in your heart,” he said. The head of state also noted the unusual energy of the festival, calling it “the energy of the young,” and thanked everyone who came to it. Concluding his speech, Vladimir Putin switched to English: “Future starts here and now the future is you. All the best! (“The future begins here, and now the future is you. I wish you all the best!”). Then, amid chants of “thank you,” the President of Russia took a group photo with the participants of the celebration.

The leitmotif of the show “Russia” was the acquaintance of the participants of the WFMS 2017 with the folk art of the host country of the festival - from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad. The most colorful groups of the country gathered at Medals Plaza, representing eight federal districts of the country. The presentation of the regions was stylized as a photo application on a computer, queries in an Internet search engine, videos on YouTube video hosting, posts on social networks Instagram and Twitter and symbolized the fact that Russia lives in an age of high technology, but does not forget about its roots.

Together with the creative teams, the audience experienced a unique journey across Russia. The ensemble “Red Beads” from Khabarovsk and “Koritev” from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the famous “Buranovskie Babushki” from the Volga region, the Russian Folk Choir named after. E. Popova and the dance ensemble "Rosinka", representing Central Russia, the drummer show "Extravaganza", embodying the traditions of the north-west of the country, beatboxer Eric Grigoryan and his team of drummers from the Ural Federal District, artists of the Chechen state ensemble "Vainakh" and the dance ensemble " Naltsuk" from Kabardino-Balkaria, who presented the North Caucasus, "Storytellers of Altai" and the Kuban Cossack Choir, which conveyed to the public all the flavor of the Southern Federal District. Honored Artist of Russia Zara summed up the musical costumed journey around the country with the song “My dear country is wide.” After this, the concert participants wished the audience to personally get acquainted with the geographical and cultural diversity of our country.

The “Russia” show was followed by the culmination of the evening and the entire Festival of Youth and Students. The closing ceremony called “Awakening” took place at the Bolshoi Ice Palace.

The President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, Nicholas Papadimitriou, addressed the audience from the stage. “During these days we had the opportunity to learn lessons. During these days, progressive youth participated in a discussion program and events, exchanged experiences, beliefs and ideas. The success of the festival is not reflected in figures and facts - it can only be reflected in the meanings that young people can convey from Russia and from the festival to their countries,” said Papadimitriou. He also separately thanked the Russians, the organizers and Vladimir Putin personally for the work done.

The main characters of the closing ceremony were the festival participants and... music - as one of the main elements that unites people around the world. That is why, starting from the first seconds of the ceremony, a huge rock orchestra appeared on stage under the direction of Alexander and Nikita Pozdnyakov, consisting of festival participants. During the show, he performed world-famous hits in rock arrangements.

At the same time, the audience was also involved in this huge musical flash mob. The lyrics of the songs were displayed on the board, and the whole audience sang along to them. In addition, various tasks were displayed on the screens: people were asked to make a wave, freeze like a mannequin in a certain position, and also hug or kiss the person sitting next to them.

And yet, the main characters of the ceremony were the festival participants, who took turns on stage, read poetry and uttered warm and sincere words addressed to the guests, friends and festival organizers. “I feel that each of the participants wants to change the world for the better and achieve equality in the world. At this festival, I felt the unity, solidarity and kindness of young people from all over the world. We can say that youth made this festival for youth,” one of the participants of WFYS 2017, Enrique Dominguez from Brazil, addressed the audience. This is the youngest man who lost his sneakers at the festival. They were looked for literally by the whole world, presented at WFMS 2017, but were never found. However, a surprise awaited Enrique at the closing ceremony.

“During the week of the festival, we had one unpleasant story: Enrique, who had just performed on this stage, lost his sneakers. Everyone helped him look for them... Of course, we couldn’t let him leave the festival and are giving him a gift,” said Ksenia Razuvaeva, head of the Directorate for the preparation and holding of the festival, and handed the guest from Brazil a bag with new white sneakers.

Ksenia Razuvaeva also noted that UN volunteers took part in organizing the festival for the first time in the history of the movement. One of them, Shreya Bose from India, took the stage during the closing ceremony. “As one of five thousand Volunteers of the World, I can say with confidence that each of us put a piece of our soul into the work that we did together. It didn’t matter what role each of us played, everyone worried and rejoiced with you! We shared a variety of moments with you and are glad that we were able to benefit such a grand event,” she said.

The closing ceremony once again emphasized that if a person has a goal and a dream, then nothing will stop them from realizing them. At one point in the evening, WFYS 2017 participant from Chad Ndolegulum Jasrabe Hervé appeared on stage and performed the unofficial anthem of the festival. “The problem of modern technologies is acute in Chad; they are practically not integrated into life in the country. Therefore, young people often feel lonely and abandoned, and I decided to write this song so that people around the world will pay attention to us and perhaps support us. I was born into a poor family and set myself the goal of doing well in school because it was the only way for me to succeed and support my family,” Hervé said from the stage. Performing a song at the closing ceremony of the festival was Ndolegulum Jasrabe Hervé's dream, and now that dream has come true.

The closing ceremony ended with a colorful fireworks display consisting of four thousand volleys. After this, guests were treated to a disco at Medals Plaza.

The Russian team won the 2017 WFMS football tournament

On October 21, the Continental Cup football tournament, held as part of the World Festival of Youth and Students, ended. Teams from Russia and Europe met in the final.
The European team opened the scoring in the match, but the Russians were able to not only come back, but also take the lead. In the last minute of the meeting, the Old World team managed to score, and regular time ended with the score 2:2. The winner of the tournament was determined by a penalty shootout, where the Russian students were more accurate - 5:4.

One of the honorary guests of the match was the Secretary General of the International Football Federation Fatma Samoura. On the sidelines of the festival, the FIFA Secretary General was asked about the possibility of increasing the number of the most inexpensive tickets for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia. She replied that they were not planning to do this.
“The number remains the same, as does the price - from 1,250 rubles for group stage matches. We had a meeting on categorization, all obligations must be met. They concern 350 thousand tickets of the fourth category only for Russians. This is more than 10% of all tickets,” TASS quotes Fatma Samoura.

On October 20, at the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students, the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of the international “Battle of Robots” were held. 18 teams from Russia, Brazil, India, Iran, Spain, Turkey and Australia competed for victory.
Each battle took place in a specially equipped ring, and was given 3 minutes. After that, experts assessed the damage suffered by the opposing teams. The robot was considered defeated if it stopped moving or if the number of points for the destruction inflicted on it exceeded the number of points of the enemy.
In the finals, teams from Kazan competed with the robot “Destructor”, Muscovites with the robot “Weber” and the Brazilian “Decepticon” with the original Russian nickname “Prostofilya”. The winner and owner of the cup and prize fund in the amount of 300 thousand rubles was the Weber Robotics team from Moscow. The remaining finalists received 100 thousand rubles each.
The battle was attended by the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, head of the Russian organizing committee of the WFMS 2017 Sergei Kiriyenko and the head of Sberbank German Gref.
“I wasn’t standing at the robot’s control panel, but while a spectacular battle was going on in the ring, I fidgeted and tried to press non-existent buttons with my hands. One robot was terribly sorry, the second one tried to help - this suggests that this is an amazingly exciting event. I would like to say thank you to the organizers of the battle, the Promobot company, and the employees of Sberbank, who put a lot of effort into making a real spectacle take place, which evokes emotions in all of us,” German Gref shared his impressions.
Sergei Kiriyenko noted that “Battle of Robots” is only partly a game, but otherwise it is serious work on creating new technologies: after all, behind the creation of each “fighter” there is a lot of work by its designers. “It would be very cool if the only conflicts that remained in our world were robot battles like this,” Kiriyenko expressed hope.

On October 22, 2017, the sky over the Imereti Valley will light up thanks to a pyrotechnic show of 4,000 salvos. New developments by specialists from the Research Institute of Applied Chemistry formed the basis of the fireworks display.

The show will use new low-smoke pyrotechnic products, elements with a fire color transition, and charges with an increased burning rate. The new line of pyrotechnics reduces the amount of smoke from volleys by 2.5 times, while the scattering range of sparks increases by 20-30%, and therefore the brightness and entertainment of the picture significantly improves, the press service of the Rostec Group of Companies told TASS news agency. preparing the show. The festive fireworks will last at least 3.5 minutes. Fireworks will be launched to music specially written for the festival at a frequency of more than 10 shots per second.

Today, October 20, at the intersection of Kurortny Prospekt and Fabritsius Street, a park was solemnly opened in honor of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students. The new recreational place was named just that - Festivalny Square.
The guests of honor at today’s celebration were participants of WFMS-2017 from many countries. Many Sochi residents also came to the celebration, some with children. In honor of the opening of the square, a eucalyptus tree was planted, which was called the “Tree of Peace.” Another noticeable decoration of the new green area is the figure of a dove, which is a symbol of peace and the WFMS. Like the nearby Arboretum Park, Festivalny Square, which covers more than a hectare, promises to become a popular place among citizens and resort guests.

After the end of the regional program of the XIX Festival of Youth and Students, which took place from October 14 to 17 in 15 regions of the country, all participants of the WFYS 2017 finally gathered in Sochi, their number will not increase any further.
During 4 days of the regional program, 2000 festival delegates, who were divided into groups, visited St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Kazan, Orenburg, Veliky Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk, Rostov-on-Don, Yaroslavl, Tyumen, Makhachkala, Novosibirsk, Izhevsk and Sevastopol. It is noteworthy that citizens of the United States and Canada visited Crimea and were delighted with what they saw.
Participants of WFMS 2017 continued to arrive at the festival throughout the first days. As a result, to date, about 25,000 young professionals in various fields aged 18 to 35 from 188 countries have gathered at WFMS 2017.
A volunteer corps also takes part in organizing the event. 5,000 people from Russia and foreign countries over 18 years of age have already become Peace Volunteers, including “silver” volunteers.

Participants of the Youth Festival will plant a tree of “friendship and solidarity” in a new park in Sochi

The opening ceremony of the park will take place on October 20 at 17:00. The square is located next to the famous arboretum at the intersection of Kurortny Prospekt and Jan Fabricius Street. It was created in memory of the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi.
Guests of honor are expected who, together with Festival delegates from different countries, will leave a “green autograph” on the central area of the park - they will plant an eight-year-old Rostrata eucalyptus, which will become a symbol of interethnic friendship and solidarity. This tree is fast-growing, unpretentious and can withstand frosts down to -12 degrees. It is evergreen and, according to dendrologists, will perfectly complement the Sochi urban landscape.
As previously reported, the site for the park began to be prepared in advance. The land plot was cleared, dozens of tons of garbage, emergency trees and cuttings of greenery were removed, pipes were laid for the drainage system to drain groundwater, almost 700 sq.m of paving stones were laid, walking paths were concreted, parking nearby was arranged, 60 street lighting poles were installed, and six crossings with stairs, the existing bridge over the canal has been “strengthened”.
By the opening date of the Molodezhny square, the improvement of the sidewalk along the left bank of the canal and the exit to the bus stop will be completed. The landscaping of the park and the arrangement of a universal site with a workout area will be completed.

A colorful opening ceremony of the World Festival of Youth and Students took place in Sochi.
The creators of the performance at the Bolshoi Ice Palace were the famous producer Igor Krutoy and member of the Academy of Russian Television Alexey Sechenov. This is not their first joint project: they have already worked on shows for such large-scale events as the XXVII World Summer Universiade, the VII Asian Winter Olympic Games, the XVI FINA World Aquatics Championships and many others.

The President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, Nikos Papadimitriou, spoke at the opening ceremony. First, he thanked the Russian President and the entire Russian people for hosting the festival in their country.
“We are all welcome in the country of heroes who defeated fascism in World War II and changed history a hundred years ago,” said Papadimitriou. He also condemned fascism, colonialism and imperialism in his speech and called for unity in the name of peace.

The opening ceremony was dedicated to the key problems of the modern world: ecology, poverty, education, energy, information and science. A show performance was created based on these themes. To present each part of the program, speakers were invited from different parts of the planet, who have already made a serious contribution to solving global world issues. Their stories were diluted by performances by pop stars - Dima Bilan, Polina Gagarina, Tiona Dolnikova, Nyusha, Alexander Panayotov, Yulia Parshuta, the Tolmachev sisters, Sergei Lazarev. He selected his compositions to match the theme of the performances of the heroes of the evening.

After the main program, Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared on stage and declared the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students open.

- Seven decades ago the first festival took place. Then young boys and girls like you were united by the power of dreams, the belief that youth, their sincerity and kindness can melt the ice of mistrust and help rid the world of injustice, wars and conflicts. And your peers at that time achieved a lot. They proved that barriers are powerless in the face of true friendship, and the warmth of human communication does not depend on political, national, religious, cultural and other differences,” said Vladimir Putin.
The President of Russia noted that the energy and talent of youth have amazing power, and the younger generation always brings innovative ideas to the world.
The ceremony ended with a performance by the band OneRepublic, who performed one of their main hits, “Apologize.”

The organizers of the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students, which will be held in Russia in October, plan to approve the lists of Russian participants during August. This was stated on Tuesday at the “Territory of Meanings” forum by the chairman of the National Preparatory Committee of the festival Grigory Petushkov .

Participants of the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as the Ministers of Happiness of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, were invited to the World Festival of Youth and Students, the head of the Presidential Department for Public Projects, the head of the working group of the festival’s organizing committee for the development and organization of scientific projects told the participants of the “Territory of Meanings” forum. educational and discussion programs Sergey Novikov .

“In the United Arab Emirates and Qatar there is a position called the Minister of Happiness. By the way, we invited them to the festival and hope that they will come,” said Sergei Novikov, addressing the forum participants.

Sergei Novikov also noted that the main motto for young people at the festival is “Russia is a land of opportunities,” and the festival program should be of interest to the maximum number of people.

As previously reported IA REGNUM, The World Festival of Youth and Students will be held in Russia from October 14 to 22, 2017. On the first day, an international student parade-carnival will take place in Moscow, and the main events will be held in the Sochi Olympic Park from October 15 to 22.

More than 20 thousand young people will participate in the forum, including representatives of various public organizations, teachers and politicians, with half of all participants being foreigners. Applications for participation in the festival came from almost 190 countries.

As the organizers emphasize, the festival is designed to consolidate the world youth community around the idea of justice, strengthen international ties, and also “develop interethnic and intercultural interaction.”

The Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi has ended: 30 thousand young people from all over the world gathered for a week in our country. Lectures, seminars, joint projects. Discussion of the future includes technology, politics, and what society will be like. They developed a common vision.

But something else is even more important. The youth festival is such diplomacy on top of official structures. Today these guys are studying or just starting to work, and tomorrow, the day after tomorrow they will occupy serious positions in their countries - in business, in politics. And these guys don't get instructions from Washington. At least for now.

Without cooperation there will be trouble, Vladimir Putin said in his speech at a meeting of the Valdai Club. Western politicians are captured by stereotypes. But these young people will destroy stereotypes. These young people understand that justice is needed, huge inequality needs to be overcome. We need to work together. And don't scare each other.

They were sure that something extraordinary awaited them in Russia. But this turned out to be beyond expectations. The whole week is breathtaking! Sochi-2017.

The final point in a marathon of ideas, discoveries, music, sports, cinema, dating and conversations about everything in the world. The closing ceremony is like a manifesto for youth: let's take it and change this world!

It's getting louder in the stands - that's how this week has brought them together. At the closing ceremony there are no longer delegations, countries and continents. Everything is mixed up - there are simply a lot of new friends here, whom you really don’t want to part with after the hot festival days.

Festival participants in a group photograph with the President of Russia. To accommodate everyone, they did it on the medal square, from an airship. In ultra high quality. You can see everyone who was in the Olympic Park.

“I know that an unusual, absolutely unusual energy reigned at the festival, just as it reigns today in this square. This is the energy of the young! I am sure that when you leave Russia, you will leave a piece of your heart here. But Russia will always remain in your heart. We believe in you! Future starts here and now. Future is you. All the best, dear friends. All the best. Thank you,” the President of Russia addressed the Festival participants.

25 thousand people from 188 countries. If you look for them all on the globe, your head will spin.

Greetings from Jamaica! I am from India! I'm from Liberia! I came from Libya.

So different, and this is the first surprise of the festival. It seems like it’s not the middle of the last century; there’s been a whole world in every phone for a long time now. But it’s a completely different matter to see it live. And look into the eyes - a reflection of peoples and civilizations.

“As you know, we are at war, but we want to show that it will end soon and everything will be fine with us. We were greeted very warmly. Russia and Syria are friends!” - says Zeina Nabil Rustum, a participant of the Festival from Syria.

It turned out that they had the same experiences inside. Same dreams. How to get through to them if you get off the ground is a problem - said Australian Nick Vujicic. The writer, philanthropist and speaker worked to break with the audience. They listened to him with bated breath, he spoke about what is close to everyone.

“I want to ask you, who are you today and who do you want to become? Go towards your goal step by step. If you fall, get up. Don't make excuses and dream big, even if your parents don't believe in you. Mine thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to be a speaker. And today I have traveled all over the world, and I believe that the future belongs to your generation. With the permission of the person sitting next to you, hug him or shake his hand. I want to see the love spread throughout the room!” - said writer, philanthropist Nick Vujicic.

The stars came to the festival for a frank conversation. What is the strength and who is the hero of our time? The writer Frederic Beigbeder could become an anti-example. A fashionista, a cynic, a bon vivant, he even spent two days in a Paris prison for drug use. He was talking about the line between freedom and responsibility.

“When you're 20, it's good, you're sensitive. I experienced all my deepest emotions when I was young, before I was 25. You feel emotions, beauty, sadness, madness, humor, anger. You are young, you are attractive, so don’t waste your time - don’t listen to the advice of some old French guy,” says writer Frederic Beigbeder.

We listened. Authoritative experts - in art, sports, science, politics. Ministers and Olympic champions, heads of large corporations and cosmonauts, Nobel laureates, actors... It would seem, who can you lure to a lecture at the resort?! But the halls are filled to capacity.

They also gained new knowledge about Russia. Not lectures - practice. For the first time at the festival, trips to 15 regions of the country. From Kaliningrad to Vladivostok!

“I was in Siberia, in Krasnoyarsk. It was so great! I was greeted so friendly!” - said Festival participant from Australia Natalie Buckman.

Superfestival - that's what they called it. The air here was saturated with the idea: young people love everything. Hundreds of projects from volunteerism to nuclear energy were presented in Sochi. We prepared the ground for working together - building the future. What this world will be like depends on them. Therefore, at a seminar on future technologies, the president addressed young people. With an important note.

“Regardless of what we do or will do in the future, do you know what it is? This is the moral component of our business. Anyone. Genetic engineering is so good. But there is another component to this process. What does it mean? This means that a person acquires the ability to get into the genetic code created either by nature, or people with religious views say - by God. What practical consequences can come from this? This means that it is already possible to imagine it, not even very theoretically, but it is already possible to practically imagine that a person can create a person with given characteristics. This could be a brilliant mathematician, it could be a brilliant musician, but it could also be a military man. A person who can fight without fear and without feelings of compassion, regret and without pain. And what I just said can be worse than a nuclear bomb. When we do something and no matter what we do, I want to repeat this thought again: we must never forget about the moral and ethical foundations of our work. Everything we do should benefit people, strengthen people, and not destroy them,” the Russian President emphasized.

They talked not only about projects - they shared their impressions.

“It was a wonderful week for me. But the question from all of us is: how to continue this work? And today we have with us one of those people who make decisions, the President of Russia. Mr. President, I really hope that you will hear the voices of the entire festival and I hope that you and your colleagues, the leaders of other countries, will reflect on the changes that need to be achieved,” said Fraser Dixon (Canada).

Our love's battery has run out!

In fact, they have more than enough energy. And then there’s an unexpected additional charge of emotions.

The President of the Russian Federation is in front of me! I don't believe!

Pinch me!

For many, this festival week is truly like a dream come true!

Tanzania thanks for the festival, for the forum where young people from all over the world meet!

I want to thank the organizers! A first-class world event, young people gathered here, we discuss the future.

“This is very important for us, because this is exactly the result we were counting on. We expected young people from all over the world to come. They will communicate with each other and establish direct contacts. They will disperse and take with them the memory that these contacts took place in Russia, they will take away good memories of our country,” Vladimir Putin noted.

After a personal meeting, it is easier to answer the question: who are you, Mr. Putin?!

“He’s like a pop star - that’s what I thought at first. But then I realized that this was a simple person who came to communicate with us, just like us. I think Vladimir Putin is a president who cares about his people. He cares about peace and cooperation with other countries,” says Festival participant from Brazil Marcio Tavares de Souza.

“He is a very smart man, perhaps the last leader of the free world. He put Russia back on the map of world power, world superpower to be precise,” said festival participant Boyan Novak from Slovenia.

“Thank you to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin for such a platform. He is truly an example for many politicians in the world, he is a patriot of his country,” said Festival participant from Afghanistan Mohamad Tamirn Ekhlas.

Only without the Iron Curtain! Foreigners did not bring jeans and chewing gum to this festival, as in 1957. On the contrary, they studied our native land with pleasure.

I see meat, but what is this...? - Buckwheat! - Buckwheat?

This is my first snow in my life! He's amazing! And delicious too!

This is no longer a thaw - a turbulent global flow, and in it Russian youth are like fish in water. In this whirlpool of events, incredible meetings took place. After 60 years, the Italian and Russian participants of the 1957 Festival met!

If only there was internet in their time, we wouldn’t have to wait so long. Today, people exchange addresses not by postal address, but by email, and instead of paper photo albums, they exchange memories that do not fade with time.

And where would we be without love stories?! A delegate from Kenya proposed marriage right outside the hotel. She said, "Yes."

And someone else still has trips to see friends, and more!

Veronica, come to me in China, in Beijing!

I would like to invite my girlfriend to Zimbabwe. Will you go?

Anything is possible.

From Russia with love. This festival preserved the best traditions of the Moscow meetings of 1957 and 1985, but turned the idea of the forum upside down, showing what a global platform the World Festival of Youth and Students can be.

“Since I spent the whole week here at the festival, I had many opportunities to talk with both Russian participants and foreign participants. I understand for sure that they left with such a good charge of optimism and energy. Well, for foreign participants, I am absolutely sure that for 99% of them today they understand differently what Russia is. Guys from different countries talk about what they thought about Russia, primarily due to what their media in the country shows and writes, and how radically different what they saw,” said the first deputy head of the Kremlin administration , head of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students in 2017, Sergei Kiriyenko.

Through the years, across distances and through prejudices - this is the meaning of the festival! Saying goodbye is not the endgame. And only the beginning of their new life line...
