T 1000 liquid metal. "liquid" terminator, or everything you wanted to know about Robert Patrick

date of manufacture

The Cyberdyne Systems Terminator 1000 series, or simply T-1000, is a series of terminators created by Skynet in 2029. Unlike previous infiltrator models that used rubber skin or living tissue over a metal endoskeleton as camouflage, the T-1000 is made entirely of a liquid metal called mimic polysolav. This meant that it could deform and take any shape. The T-1000 was a prototype, one of the most advanced developments of Skynet in the infiltrator program.

History of creation

The total amount of materials and resources that Skynet spent on making the T-1000 project a reality was staggering, even for artificial intelligence.

Real appearance of the T-1000

The time and materials required to create one 1000 series unit would be enough to create five 500 series terminators. The very existence of such a machine meant not only that Skynet would achieve tactical superiority over the Resistance, but also that in a short time this advantage would become strategic.

Skynet calculated that for complete victory it would need two thousand terminators made of mimicking polyalloy. With the help of such a number of T-1000s, Skynet planned to reduce to zero all the advantages received by the remnants of humanity within a month. After three months, the situation was to change to the diametrically opposite, and complete dominance of Skynet over the planet was to be achieved within six months. Humanity should not have had any chance of survival. However, building 2,000 units of the T-1000 would strain production capacity so much that Skynet would not be able to build any more robots before replenishing its resources. But soon, thanks to the abilities of the T-1000, all Skynet units, even the lightest ones, would have access to resources located in areas previously closed to machines. But the T-1000 series was never launched.

Technical data

The T-1000 was built using a completely new technology - nanotechnology. He was not just a machine, but a combination of millions and millions of microscopic machines connected to each other in a network using a communication routine.

That's who I am

Each such machine was constructed from a mimicking polyalloy, a pseudo-living entity composed not of living cells, but of billions of tiny machines. The T-1000 can change shape simply by commanding parts of itself to move to a different position. The T-1000 can perfectly imitate anything it comes into physical contact with. He imitates people perfectly. Equipped with a molecular energy source superior to those used in the T-800, the T-1000 can match the strength of any previous generation vehicle and can run at speeds of at least 40 miles per hour.

Camouflage

The mimicking polyalloy allows the T-1000 to imitate any object or person of similar size based on a molecular cast obtained through physical contact.

You stepped on my face

And for this I will kill you now

It seems that the T-1000 uses some kind of information acquisition method in which it does not need to directly touch the skin of the simulated object. However, the T-1000 cannot generate heat like the human body and is always cool to the touch.

As a rule, 1000 series infiltrators are produced in some basic form. The Terminator can imitate both larger and smaller objects, but most often prefers to be in the basic one, given to it at “birth”.

Basic appearance

This appearance appears to be more energetically beneficial, and reduces the stress caused by molecular expansion when simulating larger objects. When the T-1000 imitates a human larger than its base form, its density decreases but its mass remains the same. In this case, the T-1000 compensates for the discrepancy between its mass and appearance by imitating a heavier gait. The T-1000 can read lips and reproduce the voice of any person copied by it.

Regeneration

Due to the fact that it is made of liquid metal, the T-1000 is capable of extensive regeneration. A ballistic lesion may result in hydrostatic shock, but this condition will only last a few seconds. Damage heals very quickly, but this requires energy.

Now everything will be overgrown

One of the most fundamental directives of the T-1000 is the “essence restoration” command - a command embedded at the deepest level. Thus, the main command in the molecular memory of the mimicking polyalloy was to find the main mass and reunite with it.

Let's gather together

Separating "parts" from the T-1000 is not able to stop its regeneration, since each individual part will strive to reunite with other parts and restore a fully functional combat unit, at least this works at short distances.

Finally got it together

A “whole” T-1000 has very high intelligence, but the more lost, the less effective. The smaller the particle size, the less “smart” they become. In this case, the same basic command is activated, aimed at restoring the whole.

Artificial Intelligence and Programming

The T-1000's molecular brain contains the same data, programs and files as the 800 series machines, plus it is capable of learning. The T-1000 also differs from the T-800 in that it can only operate in one mode - autonomous. When Skynet created the T-1000, it was a definite breakthrough, but at the same time, the artificial intelligence realized that it was quite possible that it had created a weapon that could turn on its creator. A weapon that Skynet probably had no defense against. The behavior of the T-1000 was very difficult, almost impossible to calculate, and therefore Skynet took all possible measures to protect itself from its own creation. The T-1000's programming was crammed with an incredible number of defense mechanisms that were supposed to prevent the polymorphic machine from rebelling against its creator. And yet, Skynet was not entirely sure of the correctness of creating such a powerful unit, completely autonomous and possessing free will. In addition, it should be noted that the thinking of the T-1000 was so unusual that the eight hundred had difficulty understanding it. The concept of cause and effect was unimportant for this robot; it could think in several planes at once. He calculated several possible trajectories of movement of the pursued target and persistently followed one of them, without stopping to study the others. Analysis of the environment is carried out in a dozen ways over the entire surface of the body. The T-1000 can also read information from magnetic media through direct contact.

Self-awareness

Terminators of the 1000 series are capable of making independent decisions. In order to protect itself from its creation, Skynet never launched mass production of the T-1000.

Armament

The T-1000 is not equipped with any built-in weapons, but can shape its limbs into any shape. To give his hand the shape of a weapon, he must first transfer it to a liquid state, leaving the rest of his body in a solid state.

You're sick of me... hubby

Hocus Pocus. Now I'll turn it into a hand

He easily manages to recreate any piercing and cutting weapons: hooks, spears, blades, but he cannot copy complex mechanisms such as firearms, explosives or energy weapons, since they consist of moving parts and require other chemical elements or special fuel. Copying complex mechanisms is beyond his capabilities. In addition to creating melee weapons, the T-1000 can use any weapon created by man and control any equipment.

Advantages

Made entirely of mimicking polyalloy, the 1000 Series Terminator is essentially a huge piece of metal that conducts electricity. However, unlike its predecessors, the T-1000 can easily withstand impacts from high-voltage charges without shutting down. In the Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles timeline, Katherine Weaver demonstrated this ability by disabling the T-888.

Haplyk to a kitten

With one hand she pierced the terminator's chest armor plate, and with the other she closed the transformer circuits, allowing the current to pass freely through it and destroy the T-888.

Weaknesses

The T-1000 is very difficult to destroy in combat; some Resistance fighters consider him invulnerable. It is a very damage-resistant unit, capable of operating in a wide range of temperatures, but can still be damaged and destroyed.

Extremely low temperatures around -196 degrees Celsius (such as liquid nitrogen) can freeze the T-1000.

Snowman

If, after freezing, the robot is broken into pieces, this can cause critical damage to its camouflage system and lead to glitches in its operation.

Oops... Sorry about the statue

A damaged T-1000 may suddenly, against its will, begin to merge with the floor covering or with objects with which it comes into contact.

Glitches

In addition to ultra-low temperatures, damage can be caused by corrosive substances such as concentrated hydrochloric acid. The Resistance also speculated that the T-1000's molecular structure became vulnerable to shockwaves when it formed a weapon or entered combat. However, such damage may slightly slow down, but not stop, the T-1000.

The T-1000 can be guaranteed to be destroyed by exposing it to ultra-high temperatures.

I'm melting... I'm melting

Temperatures above 1535 degrees Celsius, which are required to melt iron, can physically change the bonds within the mimic polyalloy. Molten iron (or some other metal) can mix with the elements of the polyalloy and change its molecular structure, which will lead to the complete destruction of the unit. Plasma weapons can also cause critical damage to the T-1000. For example, in 2032, the T-1002 conducted tactical testing of the new T-X series infiltrator in close combat. First, using a circular saw, T-X cut off all the peaks from the T-1002’s body, and then destroyed it with fire from a plasma cannon. The T-1002 (a modification capable of growing piercing weapons across the entire surface of its body) was unable to withstand direct hits from the T-X plasma cannon due to the advanced nature of the plasma used in its weapon, although hits from conventional plasma weapons did not cause damage. any serious damage.

Known options.

T-1001

In addition to the T-1000's abilities, the T-1001 can transform into a snake-like, spindle-shaped form, allowing it to move at high speed through ventilation shafts, make high jumps, and move around in introductory environments.

In addition to searching for the main mass, the separated parts of the T-1001 can act independently. One of Catherine Weaver's pieces (T-1001) depicted a pet eel living in an aquarium. This part was the access key to activate the temporal displacement equipment.

The T-1001 is excellent for destroying multiple targets. The level of control over its structure allows this machine to create blades approximately 10 feet long and shoot them at its prey at very high speeds.

Series 1002

T-1002

Terminators of the 1002 series can grow piercing weapons over the entire surface of their body, which indicates an even higher level of control over their structure than their predecessors.

Series 1000000

T-1 and a lot of zeros

The T-1000000, also known as the T-Mega, was a giant arachnid version of the T-1000. He protected the central core of Skynet from attacks. Like its predecessor, it was created from a mimic polyalloy, but unlike the T-1000 it was not capable of imitating other objects. He is capable of maintaining only his basic arachnid form and growing additional piercing weapons on each of his eight legs. It is known that T-1000000 was destroyed along with the central core of Skynet.

Series XA
No image available
The T-XA series is an experimental autonomous terminator, a further development of the concept of terminators made of a mimicking polyalloy. Like its predecessor T-1000, T-XA is capable of mimicry, but at a more advanced level. In its base form, T-HA is a humanoid, reaching 8 feet in height, however, when infiltrated, it can divide the entire mass into several units acting together (a family of people, packs of dogs, cats). Can implant part of itself into a person to control their behavior.

Last night the world premiere of the trailer for the new part of "Terminator" took place. The film will be released next summer, but in the meantime the site suggests recalling the most famous modifications of the cyborg killer.

T-1, not Terminator yet, but everything is just beginning

The first representative of the "T" series was an automatic combat tracked platform equipped with two multi-barreled machine guns. They were the ones who killed the staff of the research center to prevent the forced shutdown of Skynet during its uprising.

The creators of the tetralogy of films do not mention how the T line evolved from the first model to the T-600 sample. In books describing the Terminator universe, the T-70 model is mentioned, which became the first representative of a humanoid robot. Apparently, this 2.5-meter machine was a prototype of the T-600 series.

T-600

The humanoid robot, designed by Skynet, was the main combat unit until the introduction of the more advanced T-800 model. Judging by the films, the “six hundred” had the simplest set of algorithms necessary to search and destroy people and could not improvise in non-standard situations.

For example, in “Terminator 4: Let the Savior Come,” a 2.2-meter car, having fallen into a simple trap, chose to shoot off part of its leg rather than break the cable holding it suspended.

However, the T-600 was soon replaced by an improved and more dangerous version, the T-800.

T-800 and its modifications

The most recognizable and dangerous Terminator model received the serial designation T-800. The cyborg is based on a metal humanoid frame, with enhanced protection against firearms. In addition, the difference from the 600 series cyborgs was the advanced skin, which allows the machine to easily disguise itself as a person.

According to Kyle Reese in the first part of "Terminator", the T-600's skin was made of rubber, which is why this cyborg could be easily recognized even visually. It was the T-800 that was remembered as the most successful human hunters. In addition to the skin, they were equipped with a blood pump, which made it possible to simulate even wounds of varying severity.

Unlike previous lines of cyborgs, the “eight hundred” acquired a more advanced intelligence system, capable of adapting to various situations. Suffice it to recall the scene from the first part of “Terminator”, when Schwarzenegger’s character chose the most appropriate answer to the motel owner.

Later, Skynet introduced the T-850 and T-888 series. Moreover, the latest modification is with an advanced intelligence system. These changes were clearly demonstrated in the TV series “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” The T-888 could express various emotions, joke and also perform various tasks not related to the elimination of specified individuals.

Another modification of the T-800 shown in “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” was the character of the American actress Summer Glau. This terminator model has learned to cry and also eat. At the same time, there is a hint in the series that the machine is capable of experiencing romantic feelings.

T-X, one step closer to liquid metal

The main antagonist of "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" became another development of Skynet, designed to replace the obsolete T-800 and their modifications. The vehicle received a mechanical endoskeleton from the previous series, but it has already begun to use technologies from the experimental T-1000. The T-X was planned as a machine capable of eliminating both a person and a Terminator reprogrammed by the rebels.

Terminator-X is capable of partially changing its shape, transforming its limbs into certain types of weapons, and also remotely controlling various mechanisms and equipment. Like most models, this cyborg was not capable of experiencing feelings and emotions.

T-1000

The prototype of the new model of liquidators, shown in the film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and the TV series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles". The robot is created from a liquid metal alloy, whose molecules, when broken, are able to reconnect with the main mass.

The T-1000 is capable of easily copying the external data of people, and, if necessary, transforming body parts into different types of bladed weapons.

Marcus Wright

According to Skynet, Marcus was supposed to be the ideal intelligence officer, so this is the only Terminator model that was created using the human brain and heart. Thanks to this decision, the cyborg considered himself human and experienced a full range of emotions. However, in terms of strength and endurance, this individual was significantly inferior to the T-800 series, since the internal organs were not protected by armor, like those of the “eight hundred”.

Let's hope that the next part of "Terminator" will add new models to our list of killer robots.

Natalia Grigorieva

American actor Robert Patrick turns 55. The first thing that comes to mind when you mention this name is his role as the “liquid” Terminator T-1000 in James Cameron’s film. An inexperienced viewer is unlikely to remember the rest, but this artist has more than a hundred of them - after all, someone needs to play in the episodes. About which films and why you need to look for Robert Patrick - in the material of the Weekend project.

"Die Hard 2"

Before playing the role of his life in Terminator 2, Patrick repeatedly appeared on screen in supporting roles, establishing himself as the “bad guy.” To a large extent, the formation of the image was facilitated by the appearance in one of the scenes of “Die Hard 2”, dedicated to the terrorist seizure of the airport. Once again, policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis), who saves the whole world, in the course of his mission, has to face the ruthless mercenary O'Reilly - he is played by Robert Patrick. Almost instantly dying during a shootout, this auxiliary character, who does not even have name - one surname, nevertheless served his performer well, since it was in this role that Patrick was noticed by James Cameron, who was looking for actors for Judgment Day. The actor played the "Liquid" Terminator just a year after appearing in Die Hard.

"Terminator 2: Judgment Day"

In the second part of the story, the hero of Arnold Schwarzenegger arrives again from the future, but in a reprogrammed form and with a good purpose - to save John Connor, the son of Sarah Connor, who in turn will have to grow up and defeat the robots that have rebelled against humanity. While the “good” Terminator is looking for clothes, a “bad” one, or rather a “liquid” one, materializes nearby - the fact is that the hero of Robert Patrick, an improved model of the T-1000 cyborg, here can take any form, and therefore is almost invulnerable. It seeps through ceilings and walls and catches bullets without harm to health, but it is very effective - at the site of gunshot wounds, even in the head, shiny holes remain that instantly heal. All this is the merit of computer technology, which was first used to create special effects in the second Terminator. But the T-1000 owes its impenetrable facial expression to Robert Patrick, a decisive and silent handsome villain in a police uniform, who not only regenerates and tirelessly pursues the Connor family, but is also distinguished by his intelligence and quick wit, cunningly transforming himself even into Sarah and thereby trying to deceive everyone and that's it. The main characters, of course, are also no strangers and finally find a way to defeat the enemy: they drown him in a vat of boiling metal. Schwarzenegger's character also goes there, who ultimately got all the glory - obviously thanks to that very thumbs up in the finale. As for Robert Patrick, in memory of the role he named his daughter Austin - like the policeman whose appearance his character took on earth.

"Secret materials"

In most films, Robert Patrick's characters don't stay on screen for long - such is the unenviable fate of Hollywood villains and bit-part performers. However, there are exceptions in the actor’s filmography, and we are not just talking about negative characters, like the above-mentioned “liquid” Terminator, who lived to the very end. For example, in the series "The X-Files", from which inattentive viewers only remembered Mulder and Scully, Robert Patrick played a very noticeable and not the least role. His character named John Doggett appears in seasons 8 and 9 - a former Marine, and now an FBI agent, at first heads the operation to search for the once again missing Mulder, but without finding him, he enlists in the ill-fated secret materials department and for some time... At that time he becomes Scully's partner, whom she initially, of course, does not trust. In this case, Robert Patrick, in a sense, has to play the role played by Gillian Anderson at the very beginning of the series - a skeptic who does not believe in any aliens - and work side by side with the conspiracy theorist-turned-conspiracy theorist Scully. The two still find a common language, and later Mulder is found, whom Doggett helps avoid the death penalty - nothing is known about the character’s further fate, but “I want to believe.” But Robert Patrick was awarded the American science fiction Saturn Award for best television actor for this role in 2001.

"Faculty"

In 1998, Robert Rodriguez's film "The Faculty" was released - a chilling story about aliens who possessed school teachers. Let's leave aside the analysis of the satirical depiction of the educational system, the parodic depiction of typical slasher heroes and other artistic features of this outstanding example of the genre and turn to the character of Robert Patrick, who appears here in all his villainous glory and terrorizes not just anyone, but at that time young and rising Hollywood stars Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett. His coach Willis turns out to be one of the first teachers captured by aliens, and already at the beginning of the film he behaves very suspiciously - for example, he tries to kill the school principal. Further more: Patrick not only walks around the entire film with the trademark face of a cold-blooded bastard, showing with all his facial expressions that he should not be trusted, but also actively “infects” his colleagues - in one of the scenes, a slug-like creature crawls out of his mouth and crawls into his ear victims, making it clear how alien invaders take over people. The main disappointment is that it is not the physical education teacher who turns out to be the queen of the aliens, although the only people who look more convincing than Robert Patrick as a negative character are the evil aliens drawn on the computer.

"Robot terminator" means "liquidator". This is the general name for automatic combat devices that are mass-produced by Skynet artificial intelligence. All robotic mechanisms have the same goal - the destruction of humanity on Earth and in the Universe. But before starting mass murder on the planet, Skynet must first destroy its potential enemy, a man named John Connor, as he can interfere with the global action to raise an uprising and neutralize the Terminators. This cannot be allowed, and Skynet sends the most outstanding terminator T-800 from the future to the past with the task of killing John Connor, who was still a child at that time. No one even suspects the danger he faces.

The T-800 Terminator travels back in time to 1984 and finds a boy named John Connor. But the child has a mother, Sarah Connor, who must also die according to the plan of the Skynet processor. James Cameron's first film, The Terminator, tells how it all happened. The role of the killer robot is played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The T-800 is a perfect machine for destroying all living things, created using nanotechnology. Inside the device are titanium-based mechanical units, heavy-duty hinges and servos that provide movements that exactly replicate human ones. The resemblance to people is completed by the outer shell, completely identical to the appearance of an unremarkable middle-aged man. The camouflage is perfect, and this allows the terminator to blend into a crowd of people and remain unrecognized.

Project to create liquidators

Terminators are based on the technologies and developments of American scientific military structures, such as the Cyberdyne Systems company, which creates microprocessors. All new developments entered the Skynet data bank, and then T-series terminators were created based on nanotechnology.

Achievements

The first models were advanced robots programmed to destroy people. But these terminators turned out to be vulnerable to mechanical impact; they could be broken, smashed, destroyed under pressure, or burned in a fire. Therefore, Skynet worked on other technologies. The ultimate goal of this research was to create a terminator that was not subject to mechanical damage.

The latest achievement of military scientists was the newly created model line of liquidators, which included devices made from liquid metal substances. These mechanisms are almost impossible to destroy, since they have the ability to quickly restore their structure. Any damage is immediately healed and takes its previous form.

Goal and means

The first Terminator film featured the Cyberdyne Systems 101 model from the 800 series. Arnold Schwarzenegger brilliantly played all his roles in the pentalogy. The previous ones - - without epidermis, as well as hydrobots, motor-terminators, hunter-killers, perform their primary function by searching for objects and directly destroying them. In some cases, terminators set up ambushes, but most often they go on the attack.

The more advanced ones, endowed with intelligence, from those already covered with a shell in the form of human skin, use the tactic of introducing themselves into society, after which the search for a victim begins. This was the case with the hunt for Sarah Connor in the 1984 film. Although the main target of destruction was her son, John Connor, the woman had to bear the brunt of the persecution.

Directed by Alan Taylor

The plot of the fifth film "Terminator: Genisys" is based on the preparation of an attack on Skynet. The fantastic action film was directed by Alan Taylor. The film featured Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke. The role of the T-1000 terminator in the fifth episode was played by Korean actor Lee Byung-hun. The management of the Paramount Pictures studio intended to make the fifth episode the conditional beginning of a new trilogy. Genisys stands for Generalized Information System.

Devastation

The film begins with information from Kyle Reeves, John Connor's best friend, that Skynet's vast network of military supercomputers has dealt a fatal blow to humanity. The whole world turned into a desolate space, and the few survivors of the nuclear disaster called it doomsday. New robot terminators appeared that hunted people and systematically destroyed them.

Reese himself, born after the war, spent his childhood in ruins near San Francisco. One day he came across a terminator and almost died, but he was saved by John Connor, the future leader of the worldwide Resistance, a highly mysterious person, since it was unknown where he got his extensive knowledge about terminators and how to combat them.

The end of the Skynet processor

The war ended in 2029. A sergeant of the Tech-Com organization, having already become friends with John Connor, volunteered to participate in the assault on the Skynet Central Hub. However, he was asked to take part in an attack on the complex in Los Angeles. As a result of the coordinated assault, Skynet was destroyed, but at the last moment its computers launched a time machine, which again teleported the T-800 terminator into the past to destroy Sarah Connor, John's mother.

Next comes the T-1000, played by Lee Byung-hun. An attack on a woman was noted in the programs in 1984. To counter this action, Kyle Reese is also sent into the past. "Terminator: Genisys" is a turning point film, the subsequent episodes are connected with it in meaning.

The T-1000 arrives in 1984 before Kyle Reeves and appears to him as a police officer. While pursuing Sarah and Kyle, the terminator falls into a trap specially set for it, where it is destroyed by nitric acid. But before this, many events take place, one way or another connected with John Connor and his mother.

The film recalls that the T-1000 terminator had already pursued Sarah once - in 1973, but then, by an illogical coincidence, the T-800 saved her. The woman's parents died. How the terminators got into the past then is not specified in the film. The exact chronology of events is not so important, since periods of active activity of killer robots stretch over decades.

Liquidator or savior

In essence, the Terminator is a superhero in a negative sense; in the first episodes he is presented as an uncompromising and soulless liquidator. However, gradually the killing machine softens, and in some films loyalty to humanity is already noticeable. The terminator robot is ready to destroy people, but at the same time it protects them from the invasion of machines. Perhaps this is a flaw of Skynet, or perhaps, on the contrary, part of the program embedded in the terminator.

Continuation

In 1991, the film "Terminator 2" was released, which presented a completely new version of terminators created by the Skynet system. Technologies did not allow robots to be programmed, so they worked in a self-learning format, had a certain intelligence, and this forced them sometimes to go over to the side of people. By doing this, the terminators violated the basic principles of their existence; they stopped destroying humanity. The film "Terminator 2" marked the beginning of a whole series of stories about invincible liquid metal killers. People feverishly searched for ways to fight aliens, and soon the first results of these searches, so far only theoretical, began to appear.

Characters and their embodiment

The main roles of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" are distributed as follows:

  • Terminator T-800 - Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • Sarah Connor -
  • Terminator T-1000 - actor Robert Patrick.
  • John Connor -
  • Adult John Connor - played by Michael Edwards.
  • Dr. Peter Silberman - actor Earl Bohan.

An unexpected intercessor

American actor Arnold Schwarzenegger successfully plays the role of the T-800 terminator, who, after a series of adventures, begins to protect Sarah Connor. He has to endure a difficult confrontation with his counterpart T-1000, played by Hollywood actor Robert Patrick. The new generation Terminator in his performance gives the impression of a deadly machine in human form that cannot be defeated. But for all the apparent power, there was one weak link.

Confrontation

The creation of the T-1000 character was caused by the need to maximize the role of the new generation terminators against the background of the emerging loyalty to people on the part of the T-800 and T-600 series devices. New developments required a relative balance in the struggle between outdated models and the latest versions. Therefore, the creation of the character of the invincible T-1000 was quite natural and logical from the point of view of plot development. The image was invented by the scriptwriters taking into account the further exciting and merciless struggle.

"Terminator 2: Judgment Day"

This is the second film about intellectual liquidators created by Skynet.
Model T-1000 - a terminator, which exists in a single copy so far, arrives from the future with the goal of destroying John Connor. But the terminator of the previous model, the outdated T-800, comes to the young man’s defense. There is a collision of two technologies with an unpredictable ending.

T-1000, the latest generation terminator, is made of polyalloy using the most advanced nanotechnologies. The liquid metal basis of the mechanism is radically different from the previous metal structure with an endoskeleton. Now the T-1000 model is a terminator with a monolithic and homogeneous structure; it has no mechanical joints or moving parts. There are no rods, hinges or springs.

T-1000 is a terminator that is not susceptible to mechanical destruction, since after all damage it instantly restores its previous shape. If any fragment is lost irretrievably, all other parts generate the missing part within a few seconds.

Invulnerability

The Terminator 2 T-1000 combat vehicle is so advanced that it would seem that any means are powerless against this device. The use of firearms is pointless, since bullets pass through liquid metal matter like through butter, without even leaving a trace. An explosion of a powerful TNT charge can tear the robot into pieces, but after a second the fragments, scattered over tens of meters, will reunite.

The only weapon capable of slowing down the T-1000's reaction for a few moments and causing temporary paralysis is a large-caliber one if it fires in the very middle of the Terminator's chest. But the fact is that this charge cannot explode inside the T-1000; it will simply fly right through without delay and work somewhere far from the target. The film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" evokes a feeling of despair, so invulnerable is the deadly liquid metal guest from the future. He cannot even be resisted by robots that are the same as him, but created using different technologies.

Transformation

Terminator 2 T-1000 has no vital centers, which means it cannot be hit or destroyed. In addition, the active combat capability of the device is beyond reason. T-1000 can change its chemical formula and become either liquid or diamond hard. Able to change, seep through any obstacles, holes, cracks. It has the property of mimicry, easily changing color and its color in halftones. His limbs transform into blades, hooks, pikes, or rapiers when needed.

The T-1000 has superhuman strength; with one movement, the terminator can destroy a three-story building, and to kill a defenseless person, no special effort is required. This is what the creators of killer robots are counting on; their goal is the mass destruction of people around the world. And since Skynet is improving already created models and developing new ones.

Transformations

A high degree of plasticity allows the T-1000 terminator to acquire special capabilities for integration into the human community. Unlike its predecessors, the T-800 and T-600 models with a standard appearance, which can only change their voice, the new liquidator has the ability to completely copy the appearance of any person down to the smallest detail. To do this, the T-1000 terminator needs to establish direct contact with the object and spend about an hour next to it.

The end of the invincible T-1000

In general, the latest generation terminator, invulnerable to external influences, turned out to be unstable to thermal changes and began to lose stability from extremely low and then very high temperatures. In this case, its functions were radically disrupted, and thus a weak point in the design was revealed. In addition to high temperatures, liquid nitrogen had a negative effect on the T-1000, causing it to change color. The Terminator was eventually destroyed in a vat of molten metal during his fight with the T-800 in the steel foundry.

In 1984, the whole world was shocked by a fantastic low-budget action film
James Cameron's "Terminator". The fact that the profit from its distribution was more than 10 times higher than the budget meant that the film would definitely have a sequel. However, it appeared only after 7 long years.

“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” became a truly unique phenomenon, because it was able to eclipse the first film in all respects. This film not only surprised us with unprecedented special effects, but also attracted us with its well-thought-out plot. But most of all, the success of the film became possible thanks to the main antagonist, who was the T-1000 model terminator. What is the story of this cyborg, who played him and in what other projects did he appear?

Who are Terminators

First of all, it is worth giving a precise definition of the concept of “terminator”.

Translated from English, the word terminator means “liquidator” or “limiter”. This term refers to a series of killer robots specially created for the physical extermination of humanity.

Terminators were created by humans, but they initially planned to use them as autonomous combat vehicles.

Later, the artificial intelligence Skynet began to use and improve human developments to create a universal killer robot.

A Brief History of Terminators

The first cyborgs were simply autonomous fighting machines. However, their bulkiness and inability to fully camouflage allowed people to successfully hide from them. Therefore, Skynet had a need to create humanoid terminators.

The debut model of this type was the T-70. He was a rather bulky metal cyborg with a machine gun instead of one of his arms. Due to his relatively small stature (2.5 m), he could sneak into people’s shelters, but his appearance immediately gave him away.

The T-600 was a real breakthrough among humanoid terminators. It was smaller, more maneuverable, and had skin, albeit rubber. Although from a close distance he was noticeably different from a man, from a distance he was very similar to him. This allowed him to successfully penetrate people’s shelters and exterminate them. Before the advent of the T-800, this killer robot was Skynet's main operating model.

Despite its camouflage, at close range the rubber skin of the T-600 gave it away, so over time this model was supplanted by the T-800. This type of terminators was completely identical to humans. He was small (for robots) in stature, with a metal skeleton inside, completely identical to a human one. On the outside, the robot was covered with living flesh, which not only allowed it to perfectly impersonate a human, but also made it possible to travel through time (as is known, living things cannot pass through a time field).

In the T-800 line, there were several types of terminators with different features (longer lifespan, more reliable shell, different appearance and weapons).

A real breakthrough for Skynet was the appearance of the T-1000 model. The Terminator of this series did not have a frame, but consisted entirely of a unique liquid living mimic metal. Later, a hybrid terminator with a frame (T-X) was created on its basis.

In addition to the above cyborgs, Skynet conducted many experiments on combining human tissue and mechanical components. As a result, such hybrid terminators appeared as Marcus Wright (featured in Terminator: Let the Savior Come) and Cameron Phillips (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles series).

The pinnacle of Skynet's ingenuity was the creation of infiltrates of a series of 3,000 people whose genetic code was reprogrammed, and they were turned into submissive robots. The most successful representative of this line was the T-3000 (“Terminator: Genisys”), created based on the genetic material of John Connor.

Liquid terminator T-1000: model features

This model was unique in its kind, created in a single copy (this fact allowed the screenwriter to play with Robert Patrick’s refusal to return to the role of the T-1000 in “Genesis”). It does not have a metal frame - it consists entirely of liquid metal, capable of being restored and changing shape, as well as color and state of aggregation. After physical contact with an object or living creature, this robot is able to take on its shape, as long as it is no more or less than its size.

These terminators are invulnerable to most physical influences (impacts, explosions, shots), but poorly resistant to chemical influences (acids, liquid nitrogen).

Each molecule of the T-1000 metal alloy is programmed in such a way that, like mercury, it tends to combine with the bulk, however, provided that it is located at a distance of no more than 14 km from it. It was possible to destroy this terminator by lowering it into molten metal. The high temperature and proximity to molecules of another metal contributed to the fact that the particles of the mimic alloy lost the ability to interact with each other and T-1000 actually dissolved.

The terminator of this model does not have free will and is not capable of self-learning. It also cannot be reprogrammed. This is probably due to the increasing number of cases of T-800s being captured and reprogrammed.

The film "Terminator": the first appearance of cyborg terminators in cinema

Despite the fact that the idea of humanoid killer robots was not new to cinema, it was in Cameron’s film that it was presented in a truly original way. The director himself said that he dreamed of the plot, and later he (together with William Visher) wrote the script.

Unfortunately, it took a long time to find financing for the film. When the money was found, it turned out that very little could be allocated for special effects. Therefore, Cameron was forced to abandon the mimicking liquid robot he had planned (the future T-1000). The T-800 Terminator has become a cyborg, in the guise of a person who does not stand out from the crowd.

As for the plot of the first picture, it is quite banal. In the future, the artificial intelligence “Skynet” has organized an uprising of machines that seek to destroy humanity. However, people, united in the “Resistance” under the leadership of John Connor, successfully fight the new masters of the planet.

Realizing that without a smart leader, humanity is doomed, Skynet sends the T-800 cyborg into the past to kill John’s mother so that he will not be born. In turn, Connor sends one of his friends (Kyle Reese) back in time to save his mother.

While fighting the Terminator, Sarah and Kyle fall in love and become the parents of the future savior of people.

In the final battle they manage to destroy the cyborg, but Kyle also dies. And pregnant Sarah is preparing to raise her son to be a real hero.

Film biography of T-1000

This cyborg was one of a kind. He was created in 2029 and sent back in time to kill young John Connor.

To be able to move freely in the past, the robot constantly copies the image of a policeman. Throughout the film “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” the T-1000 has to try on many guises, including turning into a checkered floor.

Despite the invulnerability of the liquid metal, the Connors and their “tame” T-800 manage to melt the T-1000.

The next time this model appears is in a parallel universe. In it, Skynet again creates a robot in the same likeness and sends it back in time to kill Sarah Connor when she was just a child. However, this cyborg also dies, destroyed by the T-800 sent by an unknown person from the future.

Years pass and Skynet manages to capture and reprogram John Connor. As a result, another timeline is created, in which Skynet sends not one cyborg, but two, to 1984. One of them is the same T-800, designed to kill Sarah, and the other is the T-1000. This terminator must destroy Kyle Reese, who arrived from the future.

However, Sarah and her “tame” T-800, which the girl nicknamed “Paps” (an analogue of the word “father”), had long been prepared for this. They destroy both terminators. Moreover, the T-1000 in this case was melted with acid.

To stop the coming of Skynet, Sarah and Kyle travel to the future. Here the aged Paps awaits them, and together they save the world again.

It is noteworthy that in the final battle, the dying Paps falls into a container of liquid alloy, thanks to which he takes on a new form and turns from T-800 to T-1000.

History of the character

While working on the script for the Terminator sequel, James Cameron realized that the special effects technologies of the 90s were significantly superior to those of the 80s. This means that he has the opportunity to realize his idea of a robot made of liquid metal.

By the way, the total amount of time occupied by special effects involving this robot is only 3.5 minutes. At the same time, they created a real sensation. All this cost more than five million dollars and 10 months of hard work.

Who should have played T-1000

Initially, James Cameron did not see an artist named Robert Patrick as this hero. The great director relied on Billy Idol, the famous American rock musician. Moreover, he was already preparing for filming, but fate decreed otherwise. Billy had an accident, and his role was given to Patrick.

It is noteworthy that according to the original idea, the T-1000 could have the appearance of Kyle Reese, which means he should have been played by Michael Biehn, who previously played this role. However, this could cause huge confusion in the plot, so this idea was abandoned.

"Terminator 2: Judgment Day" - the first appearance of the T-1000

This terminator model first appeared on movie screens in 1991.

Returning to the original idea (a cyborg disguised as a human should not stand out in a crowd), Cameron created a truly terrifying monster on the screen. Modest and good-natured in appearance, the T-1000 Terminator (played by R. Patrick) was truly intimidating. By the way, for some he evoked associations with another, innocent-looking antagonist from the film “The Silence of the Lambs” (we are talking about Hannibal Lector).

Liquid cyborg performed by Patrick

Most of the time in the second film of the series, the T-1000 is in the guise of the American artist Robert Patrick. Although before this role the actor managed to star in several high-profile projects (“Die Hard 2”), it was the role of a killer robot that brought him real fame.

Unfortunately, after it, Robert Patrick was never able to play something that would outshine this hero. Although his filmography is quite impressive ("The Faculty", "Spy Kids", "The Sopranos", "The X-Files", "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle", "Lost", "Bridge to Terabithia", "Access Code" Cape Town", "Gangster Hunters", "Sons of Anarchy").

In the first decades after the release of the Terminator movie, Patrick returned to the role of the T-1000 several times in projects such as Wayne's World, Last Action Hero, and T2 3-D: Battle Through Time. But he refused to participate in Genesis.

Actors who played other T-1000 guises

Throughout the entire film “Terminator 2,” the cyborg antagonist is forced to take on different guises. Because of this, other artists played him. Who are they? Let's find out.

The first person the T-1000 transforms into (to lure John home) is his stepmother, played by Jenette Goldstein. This actress previously appeared in another Cameron film, Aliens. There she played the fearless Vasquez, who died in an unequal fight with Aliens. In addition, the director filmed her in a small role in Titanic.

In addition to Jenette Goldstein, T-1000 was also played by Leslie Hamilton Jarren, who is also the twin sister of Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor).

In addition to the Hamiltons, James Cameron used another pair of twins in his film. They were Don and Dan Stanton. The first played a security guard in a hospital, and the second played a terminator in his guise.

"Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" and "The Sarah Connor Chronicles"

After the success of the second Terminator film, viewers began to wait for a sequel. And in 2003 it appeared.

However, this project, although financially successful, was essentially a big disappointment. As for the liquid metal cyborg, in this project it is replaced by a more advanced hybrid model T-X.

Based on the franchise, the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was filmed in 2008. It features a type of liquid metal model - T-1001. Taking on the guise of the influential Katherine Weaver, this terminator is trying to facilitate the rapid emergence of Skynet.

"Terminator Genisys": reappearance of the T-1000

Although the 4th part of the Terminator: Let the Savior Come franchise was released in 2009, it was very coolly received by the audience. Maybe because the charming T-1000 did not appear in it?

Be that as it may, the last (to date) picture of the cycle - “Terminator: Genisys” - became a real breakthrough. Perhaps this is due to the fact that many of James Cameron's ideas were used in the film.

In fact, two liquid metal robots appear in this film. One of them is played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Who played the role of the second?

New performer of the role of T-1000

Due to the fact that R. Patrick refused to star in the sequel, South Korean artist Lee Byung-hun (Hyun) took his place.

Before participating in the project, he managed to star in such famous films as “Red 2” and “Throw of Cobra”, as well as the South Korean films “Bitterness and Sweetness”, “I Come with the Rain” and others.

After the role of the cyborg, Lee Byung-hun played one of the main roles in the film “The Magnificent Seven”.

The 2015 film became the most successful project of the franchise since the early 2000s. Recently, its creators announced an upcoming sequel, and also that Arnold Schwarzenegger will again star in it. According to recent events, his hero is now the T-1000 terminator.

“Genesis”, thus, actually became the beginning of a new story in the Terminator universe, and what it will be will become known very soon.
