The House of Scientists on Prechistenka is known to many generations of Muscovites. Concerts are constantly held here, lectures are given, famous people are invited. There are interest clubs for children and adults.

Arkharovsky house

The Central House of Scientists on Prechistenka was built on the territory that in the old days was called Chertolye. The street got its name after 1658, when it became traditional to walk along it on Orthodox holidays, moving from the Kremlin to the Novodevichy Convent. Pilgrims went to the “Most Pure” icon of the Smolensk Mother of God, revered by Muscovites, and the name of the street came from these events.

In the 16th century, these places belonged to the Bolshaya Konyushennaya Sloboda; according to information from 1653, 190 households were assigned to it. The inhabitants of the settlement served as grooms, stirrups, sovereign riders and other working people who were involved in working with horses in one way or another. During the time of Ivan the Terrible, the guardsmen settled here, and the boyars and nobles were expelled. At the beginning of the 19th century, the area was in the possession of the military governor of Moscow I.P. Arkharov. He received an estate, a mansion and a thousand serfs as a gift from Emperor Paul I.

The first mansion, on the site of the current House of Scientists, appeared in 1716 and was built by Colonel S.I. Sukin; it is unknown exactly what his house looked like. Descriptions of stone chambers with a large garden date back to 1731. In 1792, the mansion became the property of I.P. Arkharov, who received the post of Governor-General of Moscow from the hands of Paul I himself. During Ivan Arkharov’s life, the house was considered one of the most hospitable in Moscow, but having once overdone it in his service, he was exiled. He did not stay away from the capital for long and a year later returned home, where he quietly lived out his life.

Mansion expansion

In 1812, during a fire, all the wooden parts of the mansion burned down. In 1818, the mansion was purchased by Prince Ivan Naryshkin, and after his death, his widow took charge of the estate. The princes were related to the royal family and many eminent Moscow families. In particular, Ivan Naryshkin was the uncle of N. Goncharova and at her wedding with A.S. Pushkin he was the estranged father on the bride’s side. Historians do not rule out that the poet visited the mansion on Prechistenskaya Street.

After 1844, the estate was divided, the southern part and chambers were given to S. A. Musin-Pushkin. Rumor has it that Gogol N.V. and the Decembrist M.M. Naryshkin visited him. In 1865, the house was purchased by a millionaire, a native of the townspeople, who earned his capital in the production of canvas and fabrics - Ivan Konshin. He carried out expansion and reconstruction, but the building was truly remodeled after his death through the efforts of his wife, Alexandra Ivanovna. She sold all the factories and continued to live in the house alone, surrounded by cats, a manager and a lawyer.

Before the revolution

At the beginning, at the request of Konshina, the house was rebuilt according to the design of the architect A. O Gunst. The mansion received a front entrance, and a fountain began working in the garden. An interesting innovation was the semi-rotunda, two floors high, which housed a winter garden with an atrium and a skylight. The first and second floors were identical in area - about 800 square meters. The first level housed 15 rooms, and the second level housed luxurious state rooms and the hostess's apartment.

The technical equipment of the mansion was one of the best - water supply and sewerage were installed, and a system of exhaust vacuum cleaners was installed. Marble finishing was delivered from Italy, plumbing fixtures were ordered from England. Konshina died in 1914, the mansion was inherited by his nephew’s wife, and then to her children. At the insistence of the guardian of the young heirs, the house was sold for 400 rubles to adviser A.I. Putilov. In 1917 the house was nationalized.

For science and creativity

The House of Scientists on Prechistenka was organized in 1922. From the moment it appeared, it became one of the places where an active cultural life took place - concerts were held, only here private screenings of films that were not shown on the wide screens of the country took place, lectures were given, performances by famous artists were organized, and meetings with writers and poets were held. The popularity of the place grew, the tasks became larger, and the need arose to expand the premises.

In the 30s, the architects Vesnin brothers developed a project according to which a vestibule and wardrobe were added to the old mansion on the first floor, a hall with a foyer appeared on the second, and a balcony with a hall and several technical rooms on the third. The next reconstruction took place at the turn of the 1970s-80s - changes were carried out in the arrangement of the premises on the ground floor, as well as restoration work in the front suite, which is the historical part of the building.

At the present stage, the House of Scientists on Prechistenka is one of the centers of cultural and scientific life in the capital. The CDU team organizes and supports the work of 26 scientific sections, several creative studios, a symphony orchestra, children's groups and much more. Traditional Friday meetings are held at the CDU, which brings together all the intellectual and creative people of the capital.

To conduct various types of events, the Central House of Scientists has:

• with a capacity of 500 seats.
• A chamber hall for concerts that accommodates 90 visitors.
• A hall for presentations and meetings (“Blue Hall”).
• A hall intended for holding meetings of scientific sections of the Central Distribution Center (“Green Living Room”).
• Billiard room.
• Cafe, buffet and luxury restaurant.

Scientific and creative sections

The everyday life of the building on the street is filled with scientific and creative activities. Prechistenka, 16 (House of Scientists). Every day, from 18:30, meetings of scientific sections are held in the ceremonial halls of the Central Distribution Center, open to free attendance by any interested person. The work of sections and meetings takes place in the format of live communication between visitors and prominent scientists and university teachers.

The House of Scientists on Prechistenka invites you to visit scientific sections:

• Geography, history, demography, geology.
• Medical biology, mathematics, mechanical engineering, cybernetics.
• Law, psychology, political economy, international relations.
• Horticulture, agriculture, food industry.
• Transport, construction, statistical.
• Economic management, physics, philosophy, ecology.
• Chemistry and technological processes, energy, sociology.

Seminars and conferences are held monthly, which are open to anyone; the Great Hall is dedicated to these events. Another interesting and exciting event is the oral editions of the magazines “Science and Life”, “Be Healthy” and many others. At thematic informal evenings, prominent scientists share their impressions of travel, books read, songs are sung and current issues are discussed.

The structure of the CDU has general directions for the development of personal creative potential:

• Cinema section of Professor N.I. Preobrazhensky.

Teams and studios

The Central House of Scientists (Prechistenka, 16) is famous not only for educational and scientific work, but also for cultural, sports events and activities. Studios and sections are offered for visits:

• Hunting, tourism, artistic movement studio.
• Club for fans of sports running, billiards, ski section.
• Two directions of gymnastics - harmonic, preventive.
• Excursion, two vocal and opera studios.
• Symphony Orchestra named after. A.P. Borodina and the Academic Choir.
• "Prechistensky Fridays"
• Variety theater "Duet", vocal group "Lira".
• Club "Commonwealth", studio of applied and fine arts.

More than 30 have been active in the CDU since the foundation of the organization, uniting people of different professions and interests.

• April 21- medical conference on the topic “Cardiology”. Meeting of the “Commonwealth” club on the topic: “On the history of the houses of the Arbat suburb.” Report of the geography section “Foreign heritage from excursion to discourse.” Meeting of the political economy section on the topic “The highest supra-economic goal of Russia’s development in the 21st century.”
• April 24. Report in the transport section “Modern security systems”, meeting of the demography section “Demographic and economic consequences of modern migration to the EU”.
• 25th of April. A meeting of the international affairs section with the topic “Political situation in the United States after the elections” has been announced.
• 26 April. The history section will feature a report on “W. Churchill’s Fulton Speech and Its Historical Consequences.” The Geology Section announced a meeting with the topic “Time Paradoxes and Geology.”
• April 27. The tourism section is holding a meeting on the topic “Bicycling in Southeast Asia.” The running club is holding a round table “Cold and heat are our best friends.”

Section meetings and lectures begin at 19:00 and take place in the Blue Hall or Green Living Room. In April, by appointment, it is proposed to visit the House-Museum of K. S. Stanislavsky on a tour.

Cultural events poster

Scientists (Prechistenka St., 16) are famous for their active social life and offer concerts to attend in the second half of April 2017:

• April 21 - concert of the choir “Peresvet”, “Prechistensky Fridays”.
• April 22 - performance of pop groups with the concert program “And this time is called spring!” Dancing in the Oval Hall from 15:00.
• April 24 - concert of the Moscow Academic Chamber Choir, the program is dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the group. Concert of soloists of the ensemble "Lyra".
• 25th of April. Festive concert program for Victory Day. Dancing (Oval Hall, 18:00). Evening of romances.
• 26 April. An evening of romances performed by D. Ryakhin.
• April 27. Concert by V. Kosarev. Concert of soloists of the vocal studio of the House of Scientists.
• April 28. Concert of romances and ancient Russian songs performed by the academic orchestra "Boyan".
• April 29. The play “We, we are going, we are going, we are going...” by the theater-studio “Duet” of the House of Scientists.

During the May holidays, the poster promises a rich program. Concerts for Victory Day, discussions of films, performances by members of creative groups, and meetings of scientific sections have been announced. For many visitors, the House of Scientists on Prechistenka has also become a social center. Photos of the mansion and reports on past events demonstrate the continuity of the history of the Central Dispatch House.

The cost of tickets to events ranges from 300 to 1,200 rubles; you can get full information by contacting the help desk; the ticket office is open daily from 13:30 to 19:30.

The house of scientists on Prechistenka has the following address - the city of Prechistenka, building 16. In excursion programs, the mansion is designated as the Konshin estate.

How to get to the House of Scientists on Prechistenka, you need to find out in advance: by metro to the Kropotkinskaya station (take the first carriage from the center), after exiting the metro, turn right, go to the pedestrian crossing and go to the opposite side, go straight along Prechistenskaya Street to the House of Scientists (on the right side).
