What will happen next with the Ramstein group. Rammstein - what is behind the talk about the group's breakup

Talking about Rammstein is both easy and difficult at the same time. On the one hand, this is a world-famous German band playing a specific type of Industrial Metal, which has long gone beyond the boundaries of the genre and the German language. On the other hand, it is difficult to explain how exactly representatives of such a specific genre provided a breakthrough into the mainstream.

The first time I became acquainted with their work was in the mid-90s, while still at school. On a worn audio cassette for an old Sanyo, among other soundtracks for “Mortal Combat”, among many good industrial and metal bands, the composition “Engel” literally struck me the first time.

Then I had not heard anything like this and, of course, began to look for the work of this group, the name of which at that time did not say anything at all. Prodigy and Scooter, which thundered at school discos in those years, were forgotten; literally from one song, musical tastes changed very much.

It turned out that the group itself has existed since 1994 and has already managed to make its mark with a whole batch of gorgeous compositions that had a completely unique style that cannot be confused with anything else. And textured participants who change their images like gloves.

Till Lindemann - vocals

I would like to say something special about him - an amazing multi-player - writes songs, sings, transforms like an actor, classic 3 in 1. And in all his work, even when torn guitar riffs and brutal electronic metal give way to lyrical notes, there is a feeling of some kind of frantic mechanism , which sets Lindemann's hoarse voice in motion and drives concert halls into a frenzy in the lights of fire shows and crazy images. It’s as if Lindemann accumulates a huge amount of energy somewhere inside himself, and then splashes it out into the world around him. Now he is already 50, but he does not intend to stop.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Lindemann is the engine of the group, its main highlight, which makes a simply good musical group great.

But of course, without the rest of the very talented comrades, Rammstein would not have happened either. For almost 20 years now, they have been walking shoulder to shoulder through dozens and hundreds of concerts and recordings, becoming one of the most recognizable Germans of our time.

Richard Kruspe – lead guitar (it is noteworthy that if you type the name Richard into Google, Kruspe will appear third after Sorge and Wagner, but ahead of Strauss!)

Christian Lorenz – keyboards (Christian is still nostalgic for the former GDR, where his musical career began. “I really loved the GDR with all its oddities. And when the wall collapsed, I was very upset, and I don’t hide it.”)

Paul Landers – rhythm guitar (As a child, Paul lived in our country for a year when he studied at school at the GDR embassy in Moscow, so to some extent he is our person).

Oliver Riedel – bass guitar (Riedel is famous not only for his musical creativity, but also for his two-meter height, which, coupled with a certain thinness, allows him to fit perfectly into the concept of “out of this world” images).

Christoph Schneider – drums (“The Germans are very sensitive about their history and how the rest of the world sees them - something like, “Oh, the whole world will now think that we eat people.” This is absurd. The same with violence abuse of children in America - no one thinks that all Americans are pedophiles, but art and music should reflect the most serious problems in society")

Somewhat later, when I became familiar with their video clips, my sympathy for their work only strengthened. The video “Du riechst so gut” became a real immortality and did not leave the music channels for several years, becoming a real classic.

A strange mixture of genres, which the band's lead singer Till Lindemann characterized as a mixture of alternative and industrial metal, seasoned with electronic music, fascinated with its rhythm and simultaneous brutality of guitar riffs. The whirlwind of changing images was incredibly diverse.

It seems that it was the diversity of the musical style, which is a genre cocktail and the variety of semantic and visual images, that served as the bonds that, coupled with the musical content of Rammstein’s work, made them world famous. This became very obvious in the late 90s, when “Du Hast” thundered even at those dance discos where nothing heavy had ever existed.

Lindemann's definition of “dance metal,” which he used to denote the direction in which Rammstein plays, after “Du Hast” became more specific than the generalized “industrial.”

At the same time, of course, there were a number of disputes on the topic that their popularity was formed not only by powerful energetic music and lyrics, but by extraneous factors such as shockingness, hidden fascism and political overtones.

Rammstein and shocking

An important part of the group’s creativity and its image is shocking. Moreover, it cannot be said that this is the case when outrageousness exists on its own. It fits quite organically into Rammstein’s work and is a complete part of the image. Fancy make-up, fire shows, emphasizing the theme of sadomasochism and various Freudian overtones - all this more than once or twice served as a reason for criticism of Rammstein, which boiled down to the fact that in the pursuit of additional popularity, the group puts form above content and along the way corrupts modern youth. We cannot agree with this criticism. Rammstein's content never lags behind the form and in their work, the Germans raised quite topical topics that were by no means tied to base instincts such as the animal worship of fire by primitive man.

In my opinion, the bright, shocking packaging of Rammstein’s work serves as a very convenient way to draw attention to those issues of human existence that Till Lindemann writes songs about. Of course, there is a share of postmodernism in this, but Rammstein are not revolutionaries or subverters of foundations, they live and create completely in the spirit of the times, gliding on the crest of a wave.

For example, who might be surprised now by the emphasis on the topic of homosexuality, when in Europe they are openly passing laws on allowing gay marriages and the right of gays to adopt children. So in this regard, Rammstein touching on such topics does not go beyond the real socio-political mainstream.

This, of course, does not negate the fact that at one point or another, the Germans go too far, which leads to the fact that opponents do not stop with criticism, and the concerts and video clips themselves begin to be banned for excessive shocking, such as burning phalluses.

Rammstein and fascism

In addition to accusations of being excessively shocking, the group is quite regularly accused of fascism or promoting fascist aesthetics. Indeed, in the band’s costumes one can occasionally see vague hints of elements of Nazi decor, and the cult of the body seems to hint at National Socialist Germany of the 30s, which was especially clearly evident in the video for the song “Stripped.”

The cult of the body, of course, is not a product of Nazism, and has its roots in antiquity, when people sought to achieve the perfection of their form and be like gods. But even if we assume that the cult of the body is understood precisely as the Nazi interpretation of it, then if you look at the entire work of Rammstein as a whole, it is unlikely that you will find consistent adherence to these messages. Rather, on the contrary, in most videos, and even at concerts, the images of the group members carry certain defects, sometimes in an exaggerated form, which contradicts the Nazi concepts of the ideal person. A person in the images of Rammstein can be different - enlightened, humiliated, infernal, but almost never perfect. The image of a “true Aryan” does not emerge.

In fact, Lindemann himself, in response to these accusations, quite clearly answered that his heart beats on the left, not on the right, hinting that leftist ideas are closer to him than fascist or Nazi ones. Well, the famous “Links 1 2 3 4”, playing on the theme of totalitarianism, was a kind of reference to the song by Bertolt Brecht, which he wrote for the German communists.

Also, the topic of relations with the right and left was well revealed in his interview (http://dnevniki.ykt.ru/AMERIKA/261698) by keyboardist Christian Lorenz, revealing to the press interesting details from the early history of the group.
In this regard, we can confidently say that Rammstein certainly does not promote fascism, but rather uses individual elements of fascist aesthetics in its shocking performances.

Rammstein and politics

In addition to human relationships and the vices that underlie Rammstein's work, the group sometimes turns to more general themes of a socio-political nature, where Lindemann and Co. voice their attitude to politics. For example, in "Amerika", Rammstein ironically ridiculed US claims to global hegemony with democracy, Coca-Cola and Mickey Mouse, with a slight allusion to the famous theory that no one flew to the moon.

In light of the growing anti-American sentiments associated with the US aggressions against Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq since the beginning of the 2000s, this single fell into an upward trend and quickly gained great popularity not only for its creative performance, but also for its political subtext, which was gaining strength in the countries EU.

Rammstein also does not forget about the situation in his native Germany. Against the backdrop of massive “Eastern nostalgia” for the former GDR, they released the song and video “,” where Lindemann sings hysterically about that old Germany that no longer exists, that Germany of the 60s and 70s, references to which are richly scattered in the video, which is being blurred by the new “united Europe" and migrants from third world countries.

In this regard, Rammstein are quite true to themselves as informal propagandists of the image of Germany and the German language for the rest of the world, when Germany symbolizes not the modern tolerant zimmitude, but the traditional order and some brutality generated by the flames of two world wars. Here Rammstein fully correspond to the image of Germany that we are used to seeing, and not the one it is acquiring now. Therefore, Lindemann’s anguished cries of “This is my land” are a kind of lament for the passing of the good old Germany.

The future of Rammstein.

Whatever you say, this team is real hard workers. Soon they will reach their 20th anniversary, systematically releasing a full-length album every 4-5 years, which never drops below a certain level, adding more and more hits to the solid baggage of imperishable compositions of the mid-late 90s. In general, the absence of clearly failed albums that would remain passable and not produce at least one or two real hits is also part of the image of Rammstein, where popularity is inextricably linked with success.

Of course, the further you go, the more difficult it is to stay at the top; maintaining a given level of quality is quite difficult, and age is not conducive to maintaining the same level of shockingness and musical drive. But looking at the work of Rammstein, for some reason there is a firm belief that even in 10-15-20 years, when the musicians are over 60, they will still be able to rock in the literal and figurative sense, and like the Rolling Stones and AC/DC they will be affectionately remembered as the “grandfathers of industrial.”

Those who do not like the work of this group, please do not read further.

8. The song "Dalai Lama" is based on Johan Wolfgang von Goethe's poem "Erlkönig" ("King of the Forest"), and has nothing to do with the Dalai Lama except that the current Dalai Lama is afraid of flying.

9. The song "Mein Teil" ("My part", slang for "My dick") is based on the story when the German programmer Armin Meiwes posted an ad on the Internet in 2001 saying that he wanted to meet a man in order to slaughter him and eat him . Which is what he subsequently did. The first lines of the song are the verbatim text of Armin's announcement.

20. Initially, the song "Spieluhr" did not have the last verse, but since it was a potential hit, it was necessary to add the last verse in which the child is dug up, and major chords sound in the melody, so that even housewives would buy CDs with the song.

Last update 03/23/2006

On September 18, the German tabloid Bild published news about the demise of the Rammstein group in 2018. The publication referred to anonymous sources from the group’s inner circle. Bild is Germany's largest daily illustrated newspaper and is sold in every kiosk and store. Despite the yellowness of Bild, its reports are usually trusted, so dozens of Russian media outlets immediately reprinted the hot news about the collapse of the legendary rock band. There was a wave of messages on Twitter - Russian fans, who are now over 30, recalled their youth with Rammstein, when they wore fake band merch and periodically fought in the streets with those who did not like the “nefors”.

We hasten to reassure fans of German dance metal - the message about the collapse of Rammstein has received an official denial. The musicians wrote on their website that the group has no secret plans to release a farewell album or conduct a final tour. The rebuttal also mentioned that work is underway on new songs.

There is no smoke without fire

In Germany, even representatives of the tabloid press work responsibly and look for at least three confirmations of information from different sources before presenting it to the reader. The statement that the upcoming studio album could be the last for Rammstein really came out. This is exactly what the band's guitarist Richard Kruspe said in an interview that appeared on the rock portal Blabbermouth.net on September 15.

Kruspe noted that he expressed only his feeling, and he may be wrong, but the thought was released into the public space and caused an inevitable reaction. Now we can only guess why this was done. Perhaps the group is really talking about breaking up and wants to close the project on a friendly note before relations between the musicians deteriorate. Maybe the news was thrown in for the sake of PR, because the level of interest in Rammstein has been steadily falling over the past many years. Yes, the band remains among the patriarchs of the metal scene, but its last album, “Liebe ist fur alle da,” was released back in 2009.

What's happening with Rammstein now?

Since the release of their sixth album, the group has been organizing their own shows, releasing videos and live releases, and gradually expanding into side projects. Fans tired of waiting for new hits were given a lot of joy by the metal project Lindemann, which was formed in 2015 by Till Lindemann and Peter Tägtgren, the creator of Pain and the leader of Hypocrisy. Lindemann is responsible for the lyrics and vocals in the band of the same name, Tägtgren is responsible for the musical component. Lindemann released the album “Skills in Pills” in 2015, which, as expected, took first place in the German chart.

The musicians, of course, don’t forget about the main project either. In March 2017, the same Richard Kruspe said that Rammstein already had 35 new songs almost ready. However, when asked about the release date of the seventh album, he could not answer anything concrete. All this confirms the talk about the group’s long-term problems with writing new strong material, although their presence does not allow us to talk about the imminent collapse of the group.

Rammstein is not like most bands, including in its cohesion. The team is already 23 years old, and its composition has never changed during this time. It is obvious that external factors are unlikely to break this colossus. The group members know how to negotiate, and if something happens to it, it will be their common decision.

On July 29 and August 2, concerts will be held in Moscow and St. Petersburg, respectively. On January 16, 2019, it was announced that all tickets for these concerts had been sold out. In January 2019, Richard Kruspe stated that recording was completed in November 2018 and that the album would most likely be released in April 2019, along with 5 new videos that the band plans to shoot for it.

"Despite reports in the press, the band has no 'secret plans' for a 'farewell album or final tour,'" the text notes. The band is currently working on new songs.

“The band, after a successful festival tour, is currently working on new songs,” the rockers added.

Fake news that Rammstein is breaking up appeared earlier on Monday in the German tabloid Bild.

The note stated that the new record, recording of which will begin in 2018, will be the last in the group’s discography.

At the moment, the musicians have six studio albums, the last of which, Liebe ist für alle da, was released in 2009.

On the official website of the German band Rammstein, a refutation of an earlier report in the Bild tabloid appeared that the band's next album would be their last.

“Contrary to reports that appeared today, Rammstein does not have “secret plans” to release a “farewell album,” the message says. The musicians also denied reports that they would hold a farewell tour. It is noted that the musicians are currently working on new songs after a successful festival tour .

Let us remind you that the publication Bild reported that in the fall of next year Rammstein will release a new album, which will be the last. It was also stated that the group would then embark on a farewell world tour.

Earlier, the band's guitarist Richard Kruspe said that he felt that Rammstein's new studio album would be the band's last. At the same time, the musician emphasized that he could be wrong.

Earlier, information about the supposedly imminent completion of the group's studio work was distributed by the tabloid Bild. The publication claimed that after this the musicians would go on a concert tour, which could be their last.

Rammstein was formed in 1994 by vocalist Till Lindemann. During its existence, the band has sold more than 35 million copies of albums. The group became famous worldwide thanks to such hits as Mutter, Ich will and Feuer Frei.

Earlier, Bild reported that the group was on the verge of collapse. According to media reports, the next Rammstein album will allegedly be the last. It was also reported that after the breakup, Rammstein members will engage in solo projects.

As Ukrainian News reported, the Ukrainian group “Okean Elzy” announced that it was taking a sabbatical.

Let us note that last year the Russian media added a portrait of Putin to the T-shirt of the Rammstein vocalist.

Music is part of our spiritual development, and musicians try in every possible way to create masterpieces that can truly be listened to endlessly. The Ramstein group is strength, power and stern character rolled into one. The famous one has gained popularity on almost all continents and today occupies a leading position in rock music. Who became a legend and when was the group formed? What compositions have conquered the world and why are the songs of Rammstein (German legend) so loved?

History of origin

The Ramstein group was formed more than 20 years ago, in 1994. The musicians were able to reach the pinnacle of their careers, worldwide recognition and millions of fans around the world. The composition of the Ramstein group is a collection of truly qualified musicians and performers:

  1. Richard Z. Kruspe (guitar);
  2. Till Lindemann (vocals);
  3. (Bas-guitar);
  4. (drums);
  5. "Flake" Lorenz (keyboards);
  6. (guitar).

Today these names are recognizable, but the musicians were working in a joint project long before 1994. Earlier, in 1993, in the summer they were able to win the right to record music in a professional studio at the Berlin Rock Festival. It was this moment that became the starting point, and from this temporary place the life of Rammstein begins.

The choice of name is not accidental!

The Ramstein group performs music of a special class: sharp, impetuous, powerful and extravagant. The harsh style and created image are fully justified by the group’s compositions. Rammstein translated from German means “ram stone”. The performers themselves claim that this name is an exceptional accident that can unite the tragedy that happened in 1988. Then the disaster that occurred during demonstration flights at a NATO base led to enormous losses: two planes collided and fell directly on the spectators. That day, at least 50 people were burned alive, and another 20 seriously wounded died in intensive care. After that moment, the composition of the group Ohne Dich was released, which translates as “Without You”. The Ramstein group is a prominent figure in the music industry, which still delights with new compositions at various rock festivals and, in particular, in the solo performances of the main soloist Till Lindemann.

Till Lindemann - voice of Rammstein

Now it is difficult to imagine another main songwriter in Rammstein. Till Lindemann is the lead singer of the Ramstein group, who was able to bring the group to record chart positions with his voice. The main feature of the group is that they do not “mow” to the West. They are Germans and sing in German, they do not hide their true roots, but, on the contrary, clearly demonstrate their beautiful native land. Till Lindemann is the most prominent figure, he is also the lead singer of the Ramstein group, on whose shoulders the performance of the compositions fell. At the moment, the performer is already more than 52 years old, and he celebrated this date with the release of a solo album. A solo career does not mean that the group is breaking up - they still tour well as a group and earn decent fees from it.

Till Lindemann has a special, hoarse, harsh voice who, until this year, sang exclusively in German. The first solo album was released in English, which amazed fans. In less than two weeks since the video was released on the Youtube channel, Till Lindemann has collected more than two million views.

Music and songs of the group

Those who have a brief idea of what the German musicians Rammstein perform will understand the basic mood of these compositions and their style. The songs of the Ramstein group are sharp, motivational and even sometimes provocative compositions. Their translations from German are sometimes impressive: “How can you even sing about this???” For example, it is enough to read the translation of the song Mutter, the essence of which is “I am from a test tube,” to understand how harsh the composers of this group are in their statements. Although this performance may seem shocking to us, this particular song has become a real legend, a recognizable melody of this legendary German rock band. The most famous songs of the group are considered to be such compositions as Du hast, Rosenrot, Sonne.

Rammstein video clips

It's hard not to notice such an important part of the band's career as video clips. They, like music, received special attention. The songs of the Ramstein group, such as Mutter, Amerika, often have “indecent” overtones, and the video clips fully correspond to the same characteristics. Some “decent” albums and videos for songs are recordings from festivals or concerts, but the older the group gets, the more “unreal” the video clips are made. Lead singer Till Lindemann appears completely naked in some songs. On many screens in the country, such video clips are prohibited or shown only at night. The direction gives "challenging" scenarios that perhaps reflect the spirit of Rammstein - tough, powerful and strong...

Till Lindemann is a face, a significant figure who also takes great care of his body - regular trips to the gym allow the singer to look fit and courageous even at 52 years old. The rest of the group members do not lag behind and therefore clearly demonstrate their bodies and even imperfect areas in the video clips.

Rammstein is a legend who is still with us

The German group "Ramstein" is no longer young, but still delights its fans with new compositions and regularly demonstrates that hits that sounded almost 20 years ago are still relevant in rock culture. Rammstein - achieved success with great and hard work. Every festival, every new concert is a challenge. The public that comes to their performances often expresses their emotions in a negative way (flyers, obscene slogans). Till Lindemann is the main soloist of the group, who still delights listeners with his voice, but at the same time is already participating in the creation of his own solo album. Rammstein is real rock, listening to which is a pleasure for connoisseurs of this musical movement.
