The trend for the 80s is back in action - voluminous shoulders and shiny textures belong exactly to that time. Therefore, Julianna’s outfit is very relevant. The only danger with such a shiny texture is that it can add extra volume, but Julianna has a slim figure, so in her case there is no such problem. And a successful diagonal line of a wrap skirt visually makes the lower part slimmer and emphasizes the waistline.

This active look was perfectly complemented by laconic styling and a bright accent on the lips. Everything in moderation, but at the same time bright and very “scenic”. The choice of simple sandals is also good. If desired, you could also use pointed toe pumps with high heels.

We talked with Yulianna Karaulova about New Year's traditions, karaoke and how to make a wish correctly.

We also found out what kind of gift she considers ideal, and why snow-capped mountains are much cooler than a warm beach.

EG: Yulianna, you lived in Bulgaria. How do our Slavic brothers celebrate the New Year?

Julianna: I lived in Bulgaria for eight years. And it seems their New Year celebrations are not much different from ours. At least I didn't notice anything special. In addition, I always celebrated the holiday with my family. Of course, I had Bulgarian friends, but it so happened that we never celebrated the New Year together. My family followed Russian traditions. Preparations took 2-3 days every year: we shopped, prepared food, and decorated the Christmas tree. On the holiday itself, of course, we watched “The Irony of Fate” and Russian programs. The only thing I noticed is that Bulgarians don’t really like to go outside, light sparklers and set off fireworks. But otherwise everything is the same. They also decorate the Christmas tree, gather around the table and raise their glasses to the coming year.

EG: Tell us about the most exciting event of the past year? What are you most proud of?

Julianna: I cannot single out any one event. The whole past year has been very busy for me. I can’t believe that so much has happened in just one year. Many things have changed.

By the way, I initially understood that 2016 would be very difficult. Therefore, at midnight last New Year, I made a wish to cope with everything that would fall on me. And everything worked out.

I’m very proud of the album (“Feeling U” – editor’s note) that we released. I think it turned out very good. I am proud of my concert program, which we prepared together with my team, and which we presented on November 1 at the Moscow club RED. It was a wonderful year and, probably, the most eventful of all the years I have lived through. Maybe it’s far from the simplest, but it’s definitely the best so far.

EG: What was your first New Year like? The one you remember, I mean.

Julianna: I was 6-7 years old. My peer friend and I were sent to the second floor of the house. We looked out the window and saw my dad and a friend putting gifts under the tree. We laughed, but for some reason we weren’t upset. Although, it probably would have been necessary. But then I already suspected that all these joys were not the work of Santa Claus.

EG: What was the coolest New Year in your life?

Julianna: Most of all I remember the New Year, when my boyfriend at that time proposed to me. It was very nice: he put a ring in my glass of champagne. Naturally, I didn’t notice anything. At midnight we all raised our glasses, and... I took just one sip. He kept trying to persuade me to finish my drink, but I couldn’t understand why he was so insistent. True, in the end we never got married. But they remained good friends.

EG: And now. Have you ever been given anything crazy? Or maybe you yourself gave something cool. We are looking for ideas for this New Year.

Julianna: It’s probably a little immodest to talk about what great gifts I gave, because... I think they were all great. (Laughs) I try to approach the process of choosing gifts with soul. And give something that the person will really like. Sometimes I give what I think are very cool gifts to my girlfriends. So downright girly. In general, it seems to me that my best gift is yet to come. (Smiles) And for me... I used to be given some strange trips, incomprehensible quests...

I would really like to be given a dog.

But for now, unfortunately, even if this happened, I would not be able to take her. I'm never home and I simply won't be able to care for her properly. And so, yes, I dream of a dog.

EG: If you were still writing letters to Santa Claus, what would you ask him for?

Julianna: I would probably ask him to add a few days to the calendar year. My life is very busy, and I don’t always get time to rest. For example, my last day off was back in August. I would like to have at least a little free time. Sometimes you need very little to be happy. (Smiles) But I’m glad that everything is so intense. I can’t say that I’m tired or even more exhausted, because I really enjoy everything that happens.

EG: With whom would you sing the duet “A Christmas tree was born in the forest...” in karaoke if you could choose any artist?

Julianna: With my musician friends, of course. It seems to me that such songs should be performed exclusively among close friends, so that it is truly warm, truly sincere and fun. I would invite Bianka, Yolka, the IOWA group, the Marseille group, Timur Rodriguez, Pasha Volya with Laysan, Natasha Podolskaya with Presnyakov. In general, I would invite many people. Such songs should be sung by a huge company, loudly and festively.

EG: When you were in school, how did you spend your New Year holidays?

Julianna: There was nothing special about them. But now, for my New Year’s holidays, even if they are not school holidays, I always go to the mountains every year. For me this is the most wonderful form of relaxation. I've been snowboarding for 15 years now. And during my school years, my parents and I simply walked in the forest and sledded. And we read books at home - no one has canceled the lists of extracurricular literature. I also got enough sleep, rested and met with friends. I went to some Christmas trees a couple of times, but I can’t say that I really liked it.

EG: Besides snowboarding, what is your favorite winter activity?

Julianna: I love boarding, and no amount of beaches or oceans can replace this active form of recreation for me. This really relaxes me. Despite early rises and constant physical activity, I really rest.

When you go down the mountain, all negative and unnecessary thoughts disappear somewhere.

My favorite thing to do is travel to the French Alps. I’ve been to many places, even to Aspen, America, but nothing compares to the Alps.

EG: If you could choose any place, where would you like to celebrate the New Year?

Julianna: Somewhere in the mountains. I have never celebrated New Year in the mountains. For me, like any artist, New Year is working time. So it’s rare to be with your family at this time. If I went somewhere to the mountains, it would definitely be with a group of friends. New Year, of course, is a family holiday, but additional unbridled fun with crazy friends will never go amiss. But even when I celebrate the New Year on stage, it is a great pleasure for me. I understand that I am giving a holiday to people. On this day, everyone smiles more, feels somehow different, and I like to be a part of it.

EG: Do you believe in miracles?

Julianna: Definitely yes. It seems to me that my life is proof of their existence. There was some colossal amount of miracles in it. And they keep happening. There is no other way to describe what is happening to me. (Smiles) It seems to me that the more you believe, the more likely it is that everything will come true. By the way, I am very greedy about making wishes. (Smiles) For example, for the New Year I make as many as 12 wishes: one for each strike of the chimes. So the likelihood that at least some of this will come true increases. The main thing is to come up with them all. It's actually not that simple.

EG: What would you wish our readers for the New Year?

Julianna: I want to wish everyone a good mood! May this year bring you a lot of joy and everything you need and want. And even more. And I want to wish everyone not to be afraid to dream. And dream big and really big.
