Teaching a 6 year old child to play the guitar. Guitar courses

"Guitar Magazine" begins a series of publications dedicated to initial learning to play the guitar. We bring to your attention, dear friends, the thoughts of Moscow teacher Ilya Shumailov about his non-standard approach to “how fun it is to teach young children to play the guitar.”

Dear “Guitar Magazine”! The appeal may be stilted, but it is an advance!
Time is fast! The recent surprise at the regular telephone gives way to surprise at the Internet, email, and now - the electronic “Guitar Magazine” - “directly by email to the face” (read – to the brain)! But let’s change this slang to “I met you...” - this is somehow closer to me. Now to the point.

How to have fun teaching guitar to young children

Currently, the age of those starting to learn to play the guitar has noticeably rejuvenated. Guitar pedagogy is not quite ready for this remarkable phenomenon, as I had to verify from my own experience. Applying generally accepted methods in working with young children, I began to notice that they were ineffective and did not give the expected result - it was difficult, boring, painful, and uninteresting for the children, and for me as a teacher it was deplorable. Thinking about what to do, I began to study literature, attend seminars of Waldorf pedagogy (Rudolf Steiner, Germany), courses in elementary music-making by teachers of the Institute. Carl Orff (Salzburg, Austria), analyze the experience of teachers such as Irina Shuvalova, Vyacheslav Zhilin, Tatyana Tyutyunnikova, Tatyana Rokityanskaya, Ilya Podkaminsky, Elena Robashevskaya, and her own experience. From a host of questions and many options, a characteristic feature of children of this age began to crystallize: a thirst for understanding the world around them through play. Of course, there is nothing new in this, but I had not thought about it before. Gradually, from lesson to lesson, the baggage of didactic (educational) games began to accumulate. Some of them help develop attention, concentration, patience, perseverance, others help develop fantasy and imagination, and others introduce you to the world of guitar and music.

First lessons
I recommend conducting the first classes in a group of 3-4 people. The first acquaintance is important not only for children, but also for the teacher - children instantly sense the slightest falsehood or insincerity on his part. Everyone knows about this too. The question is how to get to know the guys and win them over to confidential communication? I use the game “Interview”.

Interview
The teacher asks questions, the children answer, or one child interviews others, the teacher is also allowed to ask questions. As a result of the game, the teacher and the children get to know each other’s character, habits, tastes, favorite activities, and surroundings. A relaxed atmosphere is established, and we move on to the next game “Magnet” to maintain attention.

Magnet
First, let's find out what a magnet is. After which the teacher invites the children to check the “magneticity” of their hands and knees, legs and floor, arms and head, palms, etc. The strength of “magneticity” is checked by the teacher or one of the children: you need to open the magnetized arms, legs... Of course, this is not difficult for an adult to do, here it is important to evoke in the children the need to concentrate will and strength. Children like the game; it infuses them with muscular energy and activates the body despite rather passive behavior. Another level of the game “Magnet” is “Magnetic Eyes”. At first, we focus our gaze on the floor, ceiling, door, closet, window (children love to look around, especially since the room they find themselves in is unfamiliar, but they want to look, and this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the guitar cabinet), then to others to the children, their noses (this is very funny), ears, eyes, knees, and subsequently to the teacher’s right and left hands, his fingers, hands, eyes. All this is necessary to maintain a focused gaze and attentive observation. Subsequently, the teacher’s voice command: “Magnet!” instantly collects and organizes children.

Mirror
This game has several levels. The transition to the next level is carried out only after the previous level is completed freely and accurately. First, we cultivate in children imitative (imitation) abilities, then not only coordination of movements, but also a sense of metro-rhythm, then we move on to setting up the performing apparatus - the position of the guitar, the position of the guitarist, the positioning of hands.

Imitation– the teacher makes various movements spontaneously, out of rhythm (scratching his nose, the back of his head, yawning, sneezing, jumping, bending, conducting, etc. – as far as your imagination allows), and the children repeat them. This easy and fun game teaches students to be attentive, without verbal warning, following the teacher, changing movements and actions, literally “eating” him with their eyes, so as not to miss anything. To enhance organization and fully engage the will, we arrange a “winner” game - then instantly everyone begins to act harmoniously. Coherence, as you know, is one of the necessary features of any musical ensemble, and it will be very useful to us in the near future.

Metro rhythmicity– the teacher makes various movements and sounds at a certain tempo and metro rhythm. Of course, the first games are carried out on the bodily and intra-auditory sensation of measure or pulse, since the children’s sense of metro rhythm for the rest of their performing life depends on this. Children must reproduce the same actions, sounds, movements as the teacher. This game lays down and forms the skill of ensemble performance, maintaining a single tempo, as the same for all performers of breathing.

Well-established executive apparatus– the game is funny and exciting, because in addition to the correct settings, the teacher, and behind him the children, show the most incredible ways of sitting, positioning the guitar (only safe for the instrument - we stipulate this in advance) and hands. The guys playfully understand the most important guitar postulates and at the same time develop a wild imagination.

I roughly divide further training into three periods:

Elementary guitar playing
meticulous guitar playing
original notation period

Elementary music playing
Elementary music-making is a practical way of introducing a child to the world of music, to the world of ethical and aesthetic categories through metrhythmic and pitch “primary elements” that grew out of speech and are not yet music in our understanding. However, they are already an integral part of the basic musical law discovered by Pythagoras.
Everything obeys this law - macro- and microcosmos, its living and inanimate matter. If you agree with this formulation, it becomes clear why the child in the womb reacts to external, in particular, musical stimuli; why after birth he responds adequately to various intonations of human speech; why, gradually growing up, he emotionally imitates the musical sounds around him; why music lessons for many children become a natural part of their existence. An important conclusion arises that the system of elementary music-making, including singing, improvisation and playing the simplest percussion instruments, developed in the 30s of the twentieth century by the Austrian composer Carl Orff (1895-1982), guessed the need for the ethical and aesthetic education of humanity (sorry for the pathos ).

As you know, Carl Orff also developed a special children's instrument for elementary music playing, which was based on professional musical instruments adapted for children: xylophone, vibraphone, flute, harp, percussion instruments. For some reason, the guitar remained outside the field of his attention; apparently, Carl Orff did not imagine the universal capabilities of the guitar, otherwise he would have used the wide possibilities of the imitative properties of this still unknown instrument. To paraphrase Robert Vidal and Andres Segovia, we can say that the guitar is a blessed instrument, known since ancient times, the spoiled child of music, close to everyone, ready for anything, the easiest instrument in the world for basic music playing. Confirmation of this is “The Venetian Carnival” and Variations on a Theme of Jota by Francisco Tárrega, plays by Nikita Koshkin and others, where composers brilliantly demonstrate the imitation capabilities of the guitar.

To be continued…

Ilya Shumailov– teacher of the structural unit of State Educational Institution Secondary School No. 1992, TsTRIGOD “Leader” (Moscow).

Worked with such artists and groups as: Glukoza, DJ Smash, EF5 group (opening for Maroon5), Zhanna Aguzarova and Expand etc. Participated in the filming of the TV shows Evening Urgant, "Factor A" (season 1 and 2). Now I work in the top Moscow cover band Yuppies, where I have constant professional practice. Individual classes are held in a studio with excellent renovation. All necessary equipment and musical instruments are available, so you don’t have to bring your own guitar to class. You can spend time in comfort in the guest room. Save your time! By studying with a teacher, you will learn in a short time everything that you could spend years studying on your own!! Many people try to learn to play the guitar on their own. Yes, it is true that some famous musicians taught themselves to play to one degree or another, but I do not recommend following this principle, even if your favorite guitarist was self-taught. If you are 100% confident that you can build truly effective learning and training systems on your own, great. However, if you're like most of us, doing it yourself is the hardest, most ineffective, stressful, and frustrating way to learn anything. This is a mistake that should be avoided at all costs. Some guitarists think they will impress others if they say, “I taught myself to play guitar.” Some inexperienced people might think it's cool, but in reality, being self-taught is not a badge of honor. How do you prefer to impress people, with your playing or with meaningless statements about your playing? I'm not criticizing being self-taught, I'm just saying that there are no advantages to being self-taught... and no, it's not true that self-taught makes us more "original." In fact, it's usually the other way around. There are many opportunities and many different paths to learning, so it is extremely important that you do not constantly get distracted by one advice from one person, another advice from another, following recommendations from other sources, etc. .d., etc. People may come up with good ideas, of course, but the fact is that distraction is the main reason why many active guitarists don't progress fast enough. These people are always busy following completely different resources, teachers, philosophies, video lessons, free online lessons, and all this makes them take one step forward, then two steps to the right, then one forward, three to the left, one - back, two - to the right, one - forward and again to the left... One of my main tasks is to make classes interesting for the student. You need to understand that everyone sets different goals for themselves. If the student is diligent and ready to work hard, then he can be fully loaded. I don't think you don't have enough potential to be a good musician or guitarist. On the other hand, there are people who, after hard work, just want to touch the “beautiful”, not related to their main activity, practicing in a relaxed mode. If you begin to put pressure on such people with musical notation, monotonous and uninteresting exercises, then all desire to play the instrument will disappear instantly. Here it is important to get interested, so that the person himself becomes interested in why, why, and how it works. For me, it is very important that already in the first lesson the student is able to play a popular musical theme, at least crookedly/obliquely. Since this motivates a person to further action. One of the advantages of playing music is that it is never too late to start doing this and achieve good results. There is an opinion that before learning to play the electric guitar, you must first learn to play the classical one. This is a big misconception. These are two related instruments, but still with slightly different specifics, different techniques, different sounds. If you want to play the electric guitar, play it right away.

My son, 9 years old, runs to a jogging lesson, despite the heavy workload in middle school and music school. The main instrument is the violin, but thanks to Evgeniy, interest Expand and the love for the guitar not only does not disappear, but grows even more. He plays at home himself and with pleasure, completing the task. The program is not classic, but we don’t need it. Modern works are selected in the musical style that is interesting to the son. Thanks to Evgeniy for my son’s sparkling eyes! All reviews (11)

Individual lessons of guitar, electric guitar, vocals and solfeggio for children and adults at any level of difficulty. Experience in teaching Expand – more than 17 years. There are students who have become laureates of international competitions and participants in the “Voice” project. Worked in the musical groups of Andrea Bocelli and Dima Bilan. Own curriculum, applied in practice in a state educational institution. Individual approach to each student, depending on the desired result. The training includes only the most effective methods and exercises, tested in practice. My practice has shown that there are no people incapable of developing musical abilities. I have many years of teaching experience and extensive experience in concert activities. I work with students of different ages. There is a special program for early musical development. I closely follow the development of the music industry, but I treat classical music education and the canons of music pedagogy with great trepidation. I studied and tested in practice most of the most famous guitar schools and techniques for developing voice data, which allowed me to create my own and adapt it to modern conditions. In my teaching activities I use only the most effective methods and principles of music education, which is confirmed by the rapid positive results and stable growth of students. I present complex theoretical and practical material in the most accessible and understandable way. In my classes, depending on the chosen training program and the assigned tasks, you will: quickly gain basic guitar playing skills; learn to play the guitar from notes and tablature; master the technique of playing with a pick and fingers; learn playing techniques in various styles: academic , rock, Latin American music, romances, bard songs, popular foreign and Russian pop music, jazz composition, flamenco; learn all the intricacies of playing accompaniment to your favorite songs; get ready-made templates for independently selecting accompaniment; learn to easily transpose your favorite songs to the sound of your voice; you will develop the skills necessary for proper singing; reveal the natural sound of your timbre; get rid of clamps; improve diction; develop natural vocal capabilities; comprehend the basics of music theory and solfeggio; acquire the qualities necessary for a professional musician. You will need desire, patience, hard work and systematicity. Students are given the opportunity to participate in reporting concerts, where they will gain the necessary experience of public speaking on stage in front of an audience. It is possible to record learning results in a professional recording studio. It is simply impossible to overestimate the beneficial effects of music on a person. Children need music lessons for full development. Do not postpone indefinitely your long-standing dreams and desires to play music, do not deprive your children of the joy of communicating with music! See you soon in class! Children 4-5 years old

Hi all! I'm learning to play the saxophone at school! Nikita managed to create a very comfortable environment both in the room and during the learning process! Anyone who hated music school with evil teachers as a child should definitely come and compare))

I go to classes at the Sing&Play school, learning to play the guitar. Many thanks for the fact that he was able to develop such a non-standard approach to teaching music :). I am a beginner from the word “completely”, in addition to this I am also very busy, there is no opportunity to practice enough at home. However, there is clearly progress! :). The school is cozy, everyone studies in a separate, soundproofed room, all rooms have air conditioning, musical equipment, and all the necessary things for classes. Moreover, the administrator always helps students halfway if it is necessary to reschedule a lesson or resolve some organizational issues. Separately about Sasha - not only is he a cool musician and the lead singer of my favorite band, but he’s also just a great teacher. The classes are held in a relaxed atmosphere, he does not press, he is very patient, he does not “load” with theory, but somehow still conveys knowledge about the complex structure of notes and music. After classes there is always a feeling of flight and joy :)). I am truly grateful and will continue to come to you!!

I recently studied at school with Rufina Akhmetshina, at the age of 36 I was inspired to learn the violin :) Thank you very much for your patience, non-standard approach and acceptance of the problems of an “adult, working” student. Learning at will as an adult brings completely different sensations and motivation) I will be happy to continue! Thank you for the easy, non-standard approach to learning and always a positive attitude.

I've been studying vocals for about 4 months. I really like that the teachers pay attention to my tastes and aspirations and help improve my weak skills. Separately, it was a big cool surprise for me to organize events where I can perform and get a lot of emotions and develop my live performance skills. I like that the school is developing, there are new ideas, our own teams are being formed, there is an opportunity to meet talented people! Thank you very much Nikita, Ksenia and Ekaterina ❤

I’ve been dreaming about it for a long time and finally decided to learn the saxophone from scratch. I don’t remember why, but the choice fell on the Sing & Play school. I have never regretted it! Teacher Nikita Naimushin truly became a guru and guide to the world of music for me! A friendly atmosphere and professionalism are guaranteed! And I bow to my teacher for his patience and positivity :)

I have long wanted to learn to play the electric guitar. I found the Sing&Play school and have never regretted it. I studied for 4 months with teacher Andrei Danilov. The classes were extremely intense, but at the same time calm. There was enough time for everything: not only for theory and the game itself, but also for setting up technique and refining playing skills. While I didn’t have my own guitar, the school kindly provided all the necessary equipment! I am very pleased with the training, many thanks to my teacher Andrey and the founder of the school Nikita Naimushin, I will be glad to study with you again!!!

To ensure that playing the guitar for children does not seem difficult, it is necessary to conduct lessons correctly. In addition, it is important to choose the right tool.

Choosing a guitar for beginners (preschool children)

For a child, it is better to choose a classical guitar with dimensions of 1/2 or 3/4, then it will be easier for the child to hold it. Don’t buy an expensive model, because after a while you will want to exchange it for another one. But you shouldn’t buy the cheapest guitars either, because they are difficult to tune. This means it is almost impossible to play them.

Children can be taught to play the guitar starting from the age of 5.

It is better to use nylon strings at first. Of course, they sound quieter, but they are easier to press. And the child’s fingers will not hurt after lessons. If you decide to learn on metal strings, then choose the thinnest ones. Moreover, they should be for an acoustic guitar.

How to teach guitar

It is easier to send your child to a music school, where preschool children are taught by experienced teachers. But if you decide to give music lessons yourself, then follow these rules:

  • Make friends with the instrument. To begin, wrap a sock around the neck and let your child just “strum” the instrument. He must learn to use his fingers.
  • Learn simple melodies. It’s better to be “Grasshopper”, “Gypsy” or Seven Nation Army first.
  • Repeat the lessons you've learned. Kids like to play with what they can do. Therefore, there will be no problems with repetition.
  • Improve the speed of chord changes. Having learned new ones, turn on the timer and invite the child to rearrange his fingers several times per minute. Then sort out the mistakes with him and repeat the exercise.
  • Simplify the chords. If a child learns a melody, but some parts are not working out, then change the key. Or choose chords that play on fewer strings.
  • Leave the theory for later. There is no need to dump all the chord names on your child during the first lesson. This will make learning more difficult.
  • Don't ask too much for the house. Of course, it is necessary to encourage practice, but it is better for the child to repeat a short task 5-6 times than to play one long one.
  • Don't forget to praise your child for successfully completing tasks. If a child makes a mistake, do not scold him, but point out the mistake in a calm tone.

Teaching a child to play the guitar is not that difficult. The main thing is to be patient and instill in your child a love of music. And then he will quickly master the instrument and achieve excellent results in the game.

Music lessons are extremely important for the psychological and mental development of any child, regardless of whether he will become a professional musician in the future or not. That is why guitar lessons for children in Alena Kravchenko’s video school, recorded on discs and conducted online via Skype, are in consistently high demand. Therefore, if you are looking for guitar courses for children who are beginners and those who have already attended music school and would like to continue their studies, pay attention to this section of the site.

The benefits of music lessons for children

Scientists have confirmed the fact that mastering a musical instrument by a child perfectly develops cognitive abilities, rich and literate speech, attentiveness, perseverance, fine motor skills, memory and general level of intelligence, allowing you to quickly process and assimilate new information. In addition, among children who study music, there is a fairly large percentage of ambidexters - those who are equally good with both hands, in contrast to left-handers and right-handers. This means that the development of both hemispheres of the brain occurs evenly. Moreover, even if the child does not reach special heights in music lessons, he will still have fun, provided that the lessons are interesting and not monotonous. In general, lessons in playing musical instruments develop and harmonize a child’s personality, directing energy in a creative direction and teaching the child discipline. During such classes, musical taste, creative potential, and intelligence dynamically develop.

Teaching children to play the guitar

According to experts, the choice of a musical instrument for a child is not important, but most parents want to teach their child to play the guitar. And this is not surprising, because this musical instrument has a great sound, is quite affordable and has great potential for performing a wide variety of musical compositions, and you can start learning to play it from the age of 8-9.

Many parents are looking for an answer to the question of how to teach their children to play the guitar. To achieve this goal, you can enroll your child in a music school or hire a teacher, and it is also possible to teach your child to play the guitar remotely - using audio and video materials recorded on discs, which can be purchased at this video school by Alena Kravchenko. It should be noted that guitar lessons for children with the help of educational discs and lessons via Skype have fundamental advantages compared to alternative methods of learning, especially when parents do not have the opportunity or time to take the baby to lessons or when the child is studying at home according to an individual plan .

Among the main advantages of professionally teaching children to play the guitar using Alena Kravchenko’s method is that the video lessons on discs contain a lot of useful information, and the effective form of their implementation is very interesting, so that the child will not get bored during lessons. With the help of video lessons from Alena Kravchenko, after just a few lessons, your child will be able to play simple songs on the guitar, and in the future, quite possibly, will repeatedly become a laureate of various prestigious music festivals, having learned not only to play the guitar, but also to truly love music.
