Events on May 27th palace. Day of the city

The program of events for City Day in St. Petersburg always delights viewers with its scale, diversity and grandeur. There are events that happen year after year and are traditional, such as an ice cream festival or a carnival procession along Nevsky Prospekt. But every year, the organizers still present citizens with a surprise in the form of a creative flash mob, an unexpected performance or an original event.

It is worth noting that one of the most significant and solemn moments of the celebration is the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to Peter I, thanks to whose incredible courage, determination and inflexibility this beautiful city appeared on the world map.

The content and nature of the entertainment program that will be held in St. Petersburg on the occasion of the City Day celebrations one hundred percent justifies the fact that this is the cultural capital of Russia. Thus, on the eve of the long-awaited and joyful day, all sorts of examples of public transport from different countries and eras will appear in the urban space in different parts of the city. In total, more than a hundred such objects will be exhibited, and they will all differ from each other in configuration, style, and color scheme. This will be a grandiose exhibition on a metropolitan scale.

And on City Day itself, May 27, all attention will be concentrated around the main local square: “Classics on Dvortsovaya” will once again take place here - a project that has earned love and respect not only from residents, but also from guests of the Northern capital. According to preliminary data, the organizers expect that more than half a million spectators will gather here, so the concert should turn out to be even more grandiose than before. Soloists from the world's leading opera stages will arrive in Russia to perform for those gathered in the heart of St. Petersburg. Thus, artists from La Scala, Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, the Paris and Vienna Opera, and the Mariinsky Theater will shine with their unsurpassed vocals. The greatest opera arias, works of geniuses - Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Strauss, Gounod and others will be performed here. In addition, the program includes original ancient Neapolitan songs, as well as fragments from famous operettas.

Of course, the format involves exclusively live performance and live sound. It is reported that choreographic groups will also perform on stage, so St. Petersburg residents will be treated to a full-fledged celebration of art. You can watch “Classics on Dvortsovaya” absolutely free of charge, and this is one of the main gifts for everyone without exception. The gala concert is scheduled to start at 21:00, but we recommend that you arrive at the square in advance so that you can find a comfortable place to watch. But even if that doesn't happen, you'll still see the show. The organizers report that five giant video screens will be installed on the square, on which there will be a live broadcast of what is happening on stage.

By the way, those who attended this show last year in 2016 will be surprised: this time they will use a much larger amount of equipment, and the visual art effects that will be used during the concert will make even the most pretentious viewer gasp. The stage, as usual, will be decorated to resemble a ceremonial ballroom. The concert will feature actors in chic costumes who will set a special tone and atmosphere.

Program of events for City Day in St. Petersburg - May 27, 2017

How to celebrate City Day in St. Petersburg

Unlike many cities in Russia, where City Day is usually celebrated in the summer and is not strictly tied to the date of its founding, St. Petersburg always celebrates its birthday on May 27. It was then, in 1703, thanks to the efforts of Peter I, that the Neva Valley passed from Swedish rule to the Russian Empire. In the same year, construction began on the Peter and Paul Fortress - the first building of the future city and its most important symbol today.

Construction of the city was a difficult task both for the main architects and designers, and for ordinary workers. A very large number of people were engaged in cutting down forests, filling up swamps, and later - erecting the first buildings. Despite all the difficulties, the city was built in the shortest possible time and already in 1712 it was declared the capital of the empire, hosting the most important government institutions.

Together with the entire country, since its creation, St. Petersburg has experienced many events - both happy and tragic. The Decembrist uprising, the revolutions of 1905 and 1917, and, of course, the Great Patriotic War left an indelible mark on the city. The then Leningrad, together with its inhabitants, suffered and suffered during the siege, but managed to withstand the multiple blows of the fascist army.

In 2003, all of Russia celebrated a grandiose anniversary - the tricentenary of St. Petersburg. Heads of other states came to congratulate the Russians on this significant event. The concert with the participation of world-famous stars was a huge success, mainly due to the performance of the anthem of St. Petersburg by the famous group Scorpions. Italians and Italian President Berlusconi spoke especially warmly about this day. This is due to the fact that most of the city’s architectural monuments were designed and built by Italian craftsmen.

Undoubtedly, the main event on City Day 2003 was the completion of construction and the opening of "". This is a huge area, ideal for both relaxation and entertainment. Since its inception, the park has accepted and continues to accept a huge number of gifts from government and commercial institutions from around the world. The rarest species of trees and shrubs were donated by the sister cities of St. Petersburg (cities between which permanent friendly ties have been established for mutual acquaintance with life, history and culture) and the authorities of the capital of Finland, Helsinki. Since 2003, Tercentenary Park has become one of the key sites in organizing and celebrating City Day.

Every year on the eve of this day, St. Petersburg changes significantly. It is not only decorated with canvases, banners, banners and screens with congratulations. Throughout May, there is a minimal increase in crime, and on May 27, even fights are not registered at all. Residents and guests of St. Petersburg actually become even kinder to each other than at other times, being connected by one event that is equally important for everyone.
