Biography

1990s

The group was formed in 1998 in the city of Rostov-on-Don. The lineup included Gene and Psycho. Their first recording is the track “The Tale of the Hourglass.”

At the beginning of 1999, they recorded the song “Time”. Later, both tracks were included in the album “United Caste” - “Three-Dimensional Rhymes”. After recording these songs, a third member, Das, joined the group. They often performed at the Hip-Hop Party in Rostov.

2000s

In March 2000, Psycho and Gene go to prison for hooliganism. They continue to write, planning to continue rapping after their release. Das was also not heard from for a long time. In September 2002, the Sands were released. They immediately take part in the track “Word for Word” for Vladi’s solo album “What should we do in Greece?” and resume touring activities. In 2004, for Khamil’s album “Phoenix” they recorded the tracks “Worms of Hate”, for which a black and white Internet video was shot (one of the first in the country), and as part of the “United Caste” “The Joy of Battle”.

Later, Das and Jin leave the group. They were replaced by Heat. Together with Psycho, they begin to write new material for the upcoming Sand People album.

In May 2009, the debut album entitled “Dry Fuel” was released. Guests there were Scato, Marinessa, Smokey Mo, Zmey, Fredro Starr from the legendary American group Onyx, as well as lesser-known Rostov rap artists. The album was mixed by Vladi from “Casta”.

They open 2010 with the release of an album of remixes of “Dry fuel” - “Flammable mixture”. Their tracks were reimagined by both well-known beatmakers (Keith, Capella, Prometheus, Don Drew, Tramp, Ignat Beatz, Roc Dog, H Music) and two new musicians - S-Beats and I-Tone.

On July 25, 2011, the group’s second album, entitled “Wheel - Both Sights,” was released. The following performers took part in the album: “Casta”, Rem Digga, Basta, Iskra, Marinessa, Panama, “Grani” for the first time in 6 years after their last album, Fetis.

In 2012, Zhara took part in the special Lenta.ru project “Re: Aquarium”, dedicated to the anniversary of the Aquarium group. He recorded a cover version of the song "Rock and Roll is Dead".

In March 2013, Zhara left the group due to creative differences, saying that he and Psycho had increasingly different points of view, and in order to maintain friendly relations, they needed to stop joint creative activities.

Psycho will soon present his new one-man show, and next year he will work on the third album of the “new” Sand People.

Bottom at the bottom of the bottom, bottom at the bottom of the bottom, bottom at the bottom of the bottom...

Fashionable water tourism - rafting down the River Styx.
For many here, not growing old in a wig is a prize.
Here they put a bolt on your whim, miss.
In the city of Ch they cling to chances, Mister, like to a cornice.

You may not know anything here, but not us who want to change something.
You must not forget the names under the blue, we are given one country,
But she is the bottom of the bottom; It’s unclear where it’s crawling.
Charon's ferry is not a hobbit, but it does go there and back.

As a rule, a local MC is neither special nor Ghetts, nor Goodz, with an inflated ego, at most, a goose.
This is a so-so path, it is unlikely to accelerate your pulse to the maximum.
As a rule, the local cop is an antediluvian asshole, that's true, just like the deputy, that's true.
A wild, seemingly experimental mutant among such clueless prostitutes.

I haven’t seen any matchless ones, boy. It’s convenient not to love here, it’s convenient to hate.
Apparently there are such people here, whip them. Where chatter reigns, albeit in a shabby form.
A spiritually poor politician will scratch you here, this is the bottom, don’t fire now.
The threads stretched by the moiras are torn.

Chorus

The country is given to us alone, but here everything is na-na-na-na-na-na.

The country is given to us alone, but here everything is na-na-na-na-na-na.
The country is given to us alone, but it is the bottom of the bottom. What!?
The country is given to us alone, but here everything is na-na-na-na-na-na.

We will perish here without a guide, but whatever - and with a guide we will perish,
If we kick our brains away with disgust.
This abode of melancholy, barren sands, presses on the temples,
Where they are used to throwing off or melting pieces.

Until I ride the hearse to the grave, I will pull the fuck - this is a fact - to assholes.
Without a contract, in contact, this is the most relish for an underground cat, like his own self-sad.
Heaven gave me this ability to write, wooden MCs are waiting for medals for places,
But they won’t stay for long, like a shelf on a scale. What's the point of writing this fucking kindergarten?

This is not Kopi Luwak, they are hammering again, the flasks are boiling, the floor is wooden, crowds of guys.
I really want to change something - this is so, we need to add boiling water. Is not
Pulling out the bolt and watering the post is as hard as getting blue from the cops.
This creativity, brother, is not a place for those who only want to take, take, take.

(2 times)
Everyone is used to taking, taking, taking here.
Lie-lie-lie for profit, then
Spend-spend-spend, but wherever you are,
Know, know, know, you can’t shoot from the sky.

(2 times)
Take, take, take.
Lie-lie-lie.
Spend-spend-spend.
Know, know, know.

Chorus
The country is given to us alone, but here everything is na-na-na-na-na-na.
The country is given to us alone, but it is the bottom of the bottom. Hoo! Hoo!
The country is given to us alone, but here everything is na-na-na-na-na-na.
The country is given to us alone, but it is the bottom of the bottom. What!?

The country is given to us alone, but here everything is na-na-na-na-na-na.
The country is given to us alone, but it is the bottom of the bottom. What!?
The country is given to us alone, but here everything is na-na-na-na-na-na.
The country is given to us alone, but it is the bottom of the bottom of the bottom (the bottom of the bottom of the bottom).

She's at the bottom of the bottom, she's at the bottom of the bottom, she's at the bottom of the bottom...
She's at the bottom of the bottom, she's at the bottom of the bottom, she's at the bottom of the bottom...
She's at the bottom of the bottom, she's at the bottom of the bottom, she's at the bottom of the bottom...

Psycho (Sand People) - My Pain (live in the Theater)

Sand People are a Russian underground rap group, members of the United Caste, veterans of the Rostov hip-hop movement and authors of the most powerful rap album of 2009. The group consists of two rap artists: Saik a.k.a. Psycho and Heat.

The group was formed in 1998 in Rostov-on-Don. The lineup included Jin and Syke. Their first recording was the track “The Tale of the Hourglass.” At the beginning of 1999 they recorded “Time” and joined the United Caste.

Later, both tracks were included in the United Caste album “Three-Dimensional Rhymes”. They often performed at the Hip-Hop Party in Rostov.

In March 2001, Saik and Jinn went to prison for hooliganism. The sentence turns out to be too strict - three and a half years of strict regime. They continue to write, planning to continue rapping after their release. Mitya was also not heard from for a long time.

In September 2002, the Sands were released. They remained strong in spirit and true to their idea. They immediately take part in the track “Word for Word” for Vladi’s solo album “What Should We Do in Greece” and resume touring.

In 2004, for Khamil’s album “Phoenix” they recorded the tracks “Worms of Hate”, for which a black and white Internet video was shot (one of the first in the country), and as part of the United Caste “Joy of Battle”.

Later, Mityai and Jinn leave the group. They were replaced by Heat. Together with Syke, they begin to write new material for the upcoming Sand People album.

In May 2009, the debut album entitled “Sukhoye Fuels” was released. Guests there were Scato, Marinessa, Smokey Mo, Zmey, Fredro Starr from the American group ONYX, as well as lesser-known Rostov rap artists. The album was mixed by Vladi from Kasta.

They open their 2010 with the release of an album of remixes of “Sukhoye Goryuchoe” - “Flammable Mixture”. Their tracks were reimagined by both well-known beatmakers (Keith, Capella, Prometheus, Don Drew, Tramp, Ignat Beatz, Roc Dog, H Music) and two new musicians - S-Beats and I-Tone.

Discography:

Dry Fuels - 2009

The Sand People group is memorable to hip-hop listeners primarily for their presence on Casta’s album “Three-Dimensional Rhymes.”

Moreover, thanks to the freestyle “Dedicated to Our Boys,” stunning in its sincerity and wall-to-wall simplicity, which the Casta group dedicated to them, who were sitting behind bars at that moment, Psycho and Jinn. Thanks to this track, almost everyone who listened to rap in those years knew about the fact that “the lawyer was on dynamism, didn’t come to the trial, he’s an asshole.” Much less is known what happened to the group next. The “Worms of Hate” video, one of the first here filmed directly for the Internet, turned out to be the last beacon to blink in the fog that shrouded the history of the Sand People.

Today, years after the events memorable to everyday writers of the Caste Saga, the site listens attentively to Psycho, rethinking the past, drawing a final line under the achievements of those glorious days and trying to spin a new round of the spiral along which, according to the theory, music develops.

It all started for me... I am the son of teachers. My dad is a linguist and writer. Mom teaches drawing. I went to two music schools, graduated in piano, then learned to play the trumpet. Therefore, I was always different from everyone else. That’s probably why I got involved with rap. After all, back then, in the early 90s, they didn’t listen to rap at all. It was not distributed. Once I heard the group 2XL, which, to my surprise, turned out to be from Rostov. This was back in the era of audio cassettes. I knew their songs by heart. Of course, I also wanted to try it myself. And it so happened that after returning to Rostov (I myself am from Rostov, but for some time I lived in Eastern Ukraine), I met Genie, with whom we created the Sand People group.

Genie took me to the first hip-hop movement at the Duncan Club., where the group Psycholyric, the future Caste, performed. In Rostov, the local hip-hop underground was gaining momentum at that time. One of the following movements was called “Hip-Hop on the Don”, the ship was removed for several hours... There we approached Vladi, to whom the White Buddha introduced us. We said that we wanted to create our own group. Vlad replied: “And I knew that you would come. It was obvious from you.” And he suggested trying to sign up. Back then it cost something like 20 rubles to record a song. It was '97. Our first song was “The Tale of the Hourglass.” We went on stage with her for the first time, and then she, as well as the song “Time,” was published on the cassette “Three-Dimensional Rhymes.”

Here's to the next album We didn’t have time to write anything down. We were rappers - Rostov hooligans. Genie and I were imprisoned. Why were you imprisoned? Let us think a little about what alcoholic drinks lead to. The boys from Casta dedicated a song to us, but we heard it only after liberation. There are no tape recorders or computers in the prison. More precisely, it was not in our time. There was no cell phone service either. Now people are calling on their cell phones in the cells. And then there were two-cubit walls around, Catherine built them, royal bricks. Holes were punched in these walls through which the postal network stretched. They communicated through this mail, passing notes.

In conclusion, what should I memorable- how attentively people pay attention to what is said. They say it completely differently. No swearing at all. Because they are watching the broom. I had a case literally a month after my release, I was crossing the road when the light was green. And some man in a Gelendvagen flies out and shouts out the window, swearing at me thoroughly. I didn’t answer him, I just showed him with a gesture who he was. He jumped out, ran up, tried to hit me, received several slaps and farts, and quickly ran back to his beautiful car. And I was left wondering how a person who has virtually everything can behave like this.

There are both bandits and hooligans in prison. Both believers and those who ended up there for serious sins. I even met rappers there, through the same “mail”. One day they call me to the cabaret and say that there is a kid sitting there - well, like a kid, 30-something years old - also a rapper. His name was Kopeyka, he was seriously ill with tuberculosis, and later died from it. A song with his participation was recorded for the Pesochny album.

What I did on the set“Worms of hatred” (fight - RapRu’s note) is the state of my health. Well, the behavior of one young lady, who had nothing to do with the filming, pissed me off a little. As a result, everyone started trying to shut my mouth, but I wasn’t used to it. Well, it’s not for nothing that I have the nickname Psycho... What can I tell you further? Crazy - well, who isn’t crazy in our country now? Many people have already asked this question. But psychos, they are like rap - they are all different. But we no longer have normal people. It's like in America - you can buy weapons for anyone who is normal. But just put a weapon in his hands, he immediately becomes crazy.

Young rappers once started telling me, that in Rostov rap used to be downloaded on corners, everywhere... I even asked: “Where did rap used to download?!” Nowhere except the Comanchero. But now it really is from every second car. They say he rocked it in the gateways. Well, let's drag him out of the gates and into the light. Let's try to promote rap a little differently. Now it can be done. After all, the Russian language is much richer and more diverse than English. We can write more interestingly! Nowadays rap is not only in basements, cars, clubs or on TV. Rap appears in the theater, serious people began to listen to it.

One day Gruz called me and says: “Would you like to work in the theater?” I ask: “How is this? In the wardrobe, do you give out numbers for fur coats?” He says: “No, himself, a rapper, a poet.” “Well, wow,” I answer. “Interesting.” I decided to try it. And I went. The theater gave me six months to adapt, and I began preparing my poetry evening. It turned out that it was a theatrical production because the storyline was developed there. I simply talked about myself in poetry and prose, and the trumpeter improvised, retelling my texts on the trumpet. It turned out interesting, young people came in wide pants, who thought there would be rap; theater critics came to see something new in the theater. What I liked was that adults in jackets and suits appreciated rap. I thought this was one way to promote rap to an older, more interesting audience.

With Zhara, the second participant the current composition of the Sand People, I met after liberation. At the end of 2002. He worked at Shymon's Tochka, in the store. Well, all these “Apple” movements... Well, it’s like in Moscow they talk about “reading books.” I heard about the “apples” from Taekwon, and by the way, not many people say that - this is our circle. We met Zhara, I listened to what he was doing. And at that time Genie had already told me that he was leaving, so I decided to pull him up. We made the first song with him, “Jester,” but it was not included in the album. We decided not to cram everything into one album, because we will still do a lot of things. An extensive program is planned.

Now it's not like before when we were all young, not even twenty, with a lot of free time. Much has changed, and those people whose voices were heard on the tapes “Three-Dimensional Rhymes” and “In Full Action” live a different life. Then each group made its own tracks, prepared its own albums. Someone was more serious - they continue. Those who are less serious are blown away. Karabass has now made a few more tracks, he is drawn to do something high. He was recording something with Zmey, with Marinka, he’s getting ready with us, with Khamil. He's serious. Panama does it - and it succeeds. Electronica doesn’t do rap, he’s busy with his own business. Taekwon is a rapper at heart, but he doesn’t have the time to write anything right now. He works full time and got married. His wedding took place in Kalmykia, according to all Buddhist rituals. The last thing Mityai did was a track with the Godfamily for “Bastards”. The last time I met him was at a Casta concert in Rostov - we met then and didn’t even get to the concert. It was great to talk after not seeing each other for five years. We got ready and went to my house to drink tea - he needed to let me know some information too. Well, I grew up listening to his verses. Now he has a family and a secret job. The genie found himself in religion, I'm glad that everything is good for him. Work, baby. Genie says that he will still do something, something like rap.

Have they forgotten the United Caste in Rostov? There are some who say that the United Caste has fallen apart. Our album "Dry Fuel" is the answer. People will listen and understand that the United Caste is alive and continues to operate. I won't explain why this album is called that way. Nowadays it is believed that creativity should be easily accessible, but on the contrary, I want a person to think a little, tinker, and philosophize. To think about what “dry fuel” is, to kindle it in yourself and warm it up in the cold. The guests on the album are worthy, there are many Rostovites. Group Suicide, Romka and Shama. Suicide - they apparently called themselves for a reason - Romka jumped from the fourth floor. The kid came from the Airborne Forces, started eating blue and showed how paratroopers jump with a parachute. He doesn't remember anything about what happened. The girl held him and pulled out his nails, but he still jumped out and seriously injured his spine. Doctors say that he will be in a wheelchair for one to four years. I consider him a very talented person, one of those who will take the next step in rap. Then Kopeyka, may he rest in heaven. Snake, Smokey Moe, Fredro Starr from Onyx. Vladi mixed this album very well.

There is a story about Fredro Starr. We have a friend, BTR, he is a translator, so he acted as such an intermediary in communication with Fredro - he quickly found a common language. As a result, we went to his room, went to the studio, to a tattoo artist - and immediately gave him a tattoo. We went to Zhara's house, got into the elevator - he was a little stunned by Soviet elevators, he said that in the poorest ghettos of Queens there are no such terrible ones - unlike the center of Rostov. Then we are sitting in his hotel, Kiyan, my other close friend, calls me from prison. “Well, are you already at the concert?” he asks. “Did you see him?” I answer: “Everything is fine, we’re sitting in his room, eating apples.” “What are you telling me: there are apples in the room...” he says. I immediately ask the translator to tell Fredro that they are calling from behind bars, say respect and immediately answer the phone. Fredro takes the pipe and immediately starts freestyles. Then I ask Kiyan: “Well, brother, have you lifted your spirits?” And after such a pause he said: “It was a control shot... from a tank... right in the temple.” That's what cellular communication means! And before, at the Rostov Central, people used pipes to break through the walls to deliver a letter... Then we went to the studio. See, with Smokey Mo you had to wait months for him to record a verse. With Khamil - a month. We also had to wait a long time with Vlad, but in the end he never recorded. And Fredro sat in the studio for half an hour, and then everything was ready.

Oh-oh-oh! This is the song of my life (in the cafe where we are sitting, a pipe cuts through the silence). "Summertime", Gershwin, "Porgy and the Imp". I adore her. She plays at my house very often. In all improvisations - on the xylophone, and on the flute, and on the saxophone. I love listening to jazz and I also love children's songs - old ones, from movies. I just have a child at home, and I need to do this. I turn it on, and she starts doing things... “Our roof is a blue sky, it’s our happiness to live with such a fate.” When my daughter and my nephew ride along Pushkinskaya on a small cart, fastened to a white hornless goat, and sing “our walls are giant pines, our carpet is a flower meadow” - then this is happiness.
