Night of museums concerts. The Tretyakov Gallery and its branches will be open for free on the “Night of Arts”

On May 20, 2017, the Tretyakov Gallery traditionally takes part in the citywide cultural event “Night at the Museum”.

Photo press service of the Tretyakov Gallery

This year, the program of the annual “Night at the Museum” event at the New Tretyakov Gallery is dedicated to the “Thaw” exhibition and this era in general.

As part of the musical program “Farce Major Concert,” you will be able to hear the hits of Eduard Khil, Muslim Magomayev, Valentina Tolkunova and other pop stars of the 1950s and 1960s performed by young but already famous actors of the Theater of Nations. Familiar melodies acquire a unique sound that can unite not only different generations, but also different eras.

A thematic master class will be held for children and their parents in the Creative Workshop of the museum - everyone is invited to take part in the collective art project “Moscow Windows. Dedication to five-story buildings." A large collage on the theme of Moscow windows will be created on the wall of the mezzanine floor. All together - young and adult visitors and museum teachers - will remember life in the Khrushchev era and the lyrical atmosphere of the Thaw era.

You can learn about the masterpieces of art of the 20th century by taking express tours of the permanent exhibition of the New Tretyakov Gallery, prepared by museum volunteers.

There will be a dance floor in the museum courtyard. Professionals of the Moscow Swing Dance Club jazz dance school will help museum guests master foxtrot, jive, Charleston, twist, step, Lindy hop and Balboa, and between classes, the best artists of the school will perform dance routines for the audience.

At the food court, in the courtyard of the museum, an international gastronomic project dedicated to the VI World Festival of Youth and Students in 1957 will be presented. Here you will be able to try dishes from the countries participating in the festival.

In the courtyard of the New Tretyakov Gallery, several exhibits of the automobile historical society Gorkyclassic will be presented - rare cars from the 1950s and 1960s. They will add touches to the reconstructed image of the Thaw era and serve as a photo zone for museum visitors.

The small museums of the Tretyakov Gallery also joined the “Thaw” theme with the project “Discovering the Personal.”

The 1960s were landmark years in the museum life of our country: the Soviet Union joined the International Council of Museums (1957), the first museum-reserves arose (1958), the Moscow Kremlin museums opened to the public (1961), and guides began to be trained in institutes. Museums tried to speak to their visitors in a new way, and personal intonations began to be heard.

It was in the 1950s and 1960s, by the will of artists and their heirs, that some of their creative and living spaces ceased to be just workshops, houses and apartments and turned into museums. Some of them later became small museums of the Tretyakov Gallery.
How does the personal become the property of everyone? Why is this happening? How do those who, at a certain moment and of their own free will, allow many to touch the innermost feel? How do the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of artists preserve collections today and what museums do they dream of? The descendants, heirs, and contemporaries of the creation of the museums of Victor and Apollinary Vasnetsov and Anna Golubkina will talk about this. Viewers will also get to know collectors—friends and neighbors of the museums.
