Moldova at Eurovision 2017: group "SunStroke Project"

Representatives of Moldova with the incendiary song “Hey Mamma” captivated the audience and were able to qualify for the Eurovision 2017 final. It is noteworthy that this is the second song competition in the creative career of the “SunStroke Project” group. The artists made their debut at Eurovision in 2010, when they represented their country in Oslo together with Olya Tira. Then they managed to take only 22nd place in the finals, but this year the SunStroke Project's chances of success may be much higher. After the first semi-final of Eurovision 2017, representatives of Moldova entered the TOP 10 of the bookmakers’ ratings.

The group "SunStroke Project" was created in 2008 by violinist Anton Ragoza and saxophonist Sergei Stepanov. The idea to play together came to the guys while serving in the army. A funny incident helped us come up with a name for the group when Anton suffered sunstroke while working in the field.

At the moment, the vocalist of the group is Sergei Yalovitsky. Together with Olya Tira, "SunStroke Project" participated in Eurovision 2010. In 2015, they again tried their hand at the national selection for the competition, taking 3rd place. Luck smiled on the guys in 2017. They took part in the selection "O melodie pentru Europa 2017", became winners and got the opportunity to sing on the Eurovision 2017 stage in Kyiv.

The group "SunStroke Project" with the song "Hey Mamma" entered the top ten performers of the first final of the competition and will perform in the final of Eurovision 2017, which will take place on May 13.

"SunStroke Project" is a musical group that combines different musical genres in its work: dance, pop, club music, house, presenting a symbiosis of the modern sound of violin, saxophone, and live vocals.

The group's current members include Sergei Yalovitsky, Anton Ragoza and Sergei Stepanov. Anton Ragoza is the violinist and main songwriter of the group, Sergey Stepanov is the saxophonist, and Sergey Yalovitsky is the vocalist of the group.

The group "SunStroke" was formed in 2007 by two young Tiraspol residents during their service in a military band. Initially, the group consisted only of violinist Anton Ragoza and saxophonist Sergei Stepanov. The name of the group was chosen by Anton when one day he received sunstroke on the parade ground. They began creating remixes of popular songs, adding the sound of live instruments to them.

Then there was participation in the “Evolution Party” along with such celebrities as Lexter, Michell Shellers, Fragma, Yves La Rock.

After this performance, it was decided to combine the sound of two instruments with vocals. So a new member appeared in the group -. In November 2008, SunStroke Project participated in the Dance 4 Life festival, organized by trance music star DJ Tiesto.

The SunStroke Project became famous due to the release of the first single “No Crime”, with which the group took part in the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, taking 3rd place. The group begins to gain its first fans. In July 2009, the tracks “In Your Eyes” and “Summer” were released, produced by Alex Brasovian, who had previously worked with the group. The tracks immediately fell into rotation on all radio stations in Moldova. In the same year, the group went on their first tour to the cities of Romania, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Russia. The group also creates remixes of compositions by Axwell, Yves La Rock, and other famous artists.

At the end of July 2009, the contract with Pasha Parfeni ended, who decided to start a solo career and left the group. A casting call was announced to fill the vacant vocalist position. From many candidates, Sergei Yalovitsky was chosen. He already took part in the selection for Eurovision 2008 under the name Jay Mon with the track “Point of view”. Immediately after this, the group recorded a new version of “In Your Eyes”, and the first new single released with Yalowitsky was “Believe”.

At the end of 2009, SunStroke Project again participated in the national Eurovision selection. Together with Olya Tira they present the track “Run Away”, which brought them victory at the national stage. Thus, a new page opened in the history of the group - the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo. Sergei Stepanov’s saxophone at the competition became known throughout the Internet as the “Epic Sax Guy” meme. Remixes of his saxophone solo collected millions of views on Youtube, despite the fact that the group only took 22nd place in the competition. SunStroke Project builds on their success with the release of the tracks “Sax U Up” and “Epic Sax.” Other singles from this period included "Scream", "Listen" and "Play With Me".

In 2011, SunStroke Project signed a contract with Lavina Digital, then held about 200 concerts throughout Europe. The group re-applied to participate in Eurovision 2012 with the song "Superman", but did not make it through the pre-selection. In the summer of 2012, the SunStroke Project group won a gold medal at the WCOPA competition in Los Angeles as the best vocal and instrumental project. At the end of 2012, the songs “Walking in the rain” and “Epic Sax” took first place in the charts of the largest radio stations in Russia - DFM and Radio Record. The band's tracks are used on various TV shows in Russia.

In 2015, "SunStroke Project" took part in the Moldovan Eurovision selection with two songs - "Lonely" and "Day After Day" (with Michael Ra), where they took third place with "Day After Day". The group attended Eurovision 2015 in Vienna together with Lydia Isak as video bloggers.

In 2011-2014, the tracks “Sunshine Day”, “Set My Soul On”, “Party” and “Amore” were released. The band's most recent singles are "Dam Dam Dam", "Home" and "Maria Juana".

"Hey Mamma" was released digitally in 2017. DJ Michael Ra and the SunStroke Project collaborated on the song. Alina Galetskaya wrote the lyrics, she also wrote the lyrics to “Run Away” in 2010. Yuri Rybak, everyone knows from the show “Dancing” on TNT and his participation in Eurovision 2013 and 2016, worked on the production of the number.

The SunStroke Project's performance at Eurovision 2017 was very spectacular, which brought them third place in this music competition - an excellent result for both the group and the country.

Anton Ragosa- violinist, founder of the group “SunStroke Project”, author of the group’s name and author of most of the group’s songs, composer, arranger.

Born 1986 in Tiraspol, Republic of Moldova. He inherited his love for music and the violin from his father. At some point he realized that music was his life, everything he wanted to do. I entered music school quite late - at the age of 13, which did not interfere with successful studies. Then he studied at the College of Music in, becoming a violinist, violist and conductor. Takes part in numerous national and international competitions, receiving prizes in the field of classical music. However, Anton’s musical preferences are multifaceted, they are formed under the influence of the albums “Scooter”, “The Prodigy”, “Moby”, etc.

While living in Tiraspol, Anton wrote a lot of music for the SpeX group, which performs trance-instrumental music. Anton has accumulated a wealth of experience performing in groups performing modern electronic music.

He went to serve in the army, where he plays in a military orchestra. There he met Sergei Stepanov. Trying to give a new sound to the instruments, they began to experiment.
