Priest Gleb Grozovsky: “I don’t understand how such a monstrous lie could arise. Orthodox education of girls of adolescence

On Sunday, December 30, 2007, at the age of 74, the famous St. Petersburg clergyman, Archpriest Viktor Grozovsky, died of heart disease. Yesterday, January 2, on the eve of the Nativity of Christ and the day of remembrance of the All-Russian Father St. Righteous John of Kronstadt, the funeral service and burial of Father Victor were performed. The memorial service, held in the Prince Vladimir Cathedral, the last place of service of the late priest, was led by the abbot of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Nazariy (Lavrinenko), who was co-served by numerous clergy of the St. Petersburg diocese. Father Victor was buried at the Smolensk cemetery.

Archpriest Viktor Grozovsky was born on February 27, 1934 in Leningrad. When the boy was 2 years old, his father was repressed. As a child I had to learn what a settlement was, then an orphanage. Victor studied at an industrial technical school, in a circus studio, graduated from the Higher Directing Courses, and was an actor at the Alexandrinsky Theater and the Theater named after. Komissarzhevskaya, worked as a director at Leningrad Television.

Then the time came to choose between the stage and the faith of Christ. Baptized in childhood, the future priest became a church member in adulthood. But in those years it was not safe. For the baptism of Viktor Grozovsky's first daughter, he was fired from television - the forefront of the ideological front. It must be said that a sharp turn in life could hardly have taken place without the support of a faithful companion - mother Zinaida Nikolaevna, a begged-for wife, with whom Fr. Victor gave birth to nine beautiful children.

Working as a church watchman at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the future Fr. Victor simultaneously received theological education (by the decision of the then rector of the Theological Schools, now Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kirill (Gundyaev), he was immediately enrolled in the third seminary course). On January 6, 1987, Archbishop Meliton (Soloviev) in the St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Epiphany V.I. Grozovsky was ordained to the rank of priest. From January to September 1987, Father Victor served in the Prince Vladimir Cathedral, then until 1999 - in the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, and from 1999 until his death - again in the Prince Vladimir Cathedral.

Many St. Petersburg residents knew this talented preacher well, a true shepherd of Christ, who dedicated his many talents to the Lord. Father Victor had the gift of clearly and simply presenting complex issues of Orthodox doctrine; he showed, in the main, decisiveness and uncompromisingness, and at the same time he had warmth and the gift of empathy, for which he was loved by his flock.

The priest put his sermons in poetic form. They often sounded on the waves of the diocesan radio “Grad Petrov” and on the air of “Orthodox Radio of St. Petersburg”. Several poetry collections of poems by Archpriest Viktor Grozovsky have been published.

A true small church is the priest’s friendly family, as anyone who has visited the hospitable Grozovsky home will confirm. A tree is known by its fruits. Suffice it to say that the three eldest sons of Father Victor chose the priestly ministry.

The ninth day of the death of Fr. Victor's Day falls on the feast of the Nativity of Christ. The editors of the Russian Line expresses sincere condolences to Mother Zinaida Nikolaevna Grozovskaya and the entire family, clergy and parishioners of the Prince Vladimir Cathedral.
Rest in peace, Lord, the soul of Your departed servant, the newly departed Archpriest Victor, and create for him eternal memory.
