Current plugins and programs for Mozilla Firefox ® and others. How to turn Pale Moon into a convenient browser The lightest version of the pale moon browser

The user will be required to perform a few simple steps and restart the browser.

Readers of our portal are probably aware that the Pale Moon browser is superior in some characteristics to its “big brother” - Mozilla Firefox. It loads web pages 25% faster, takes up less RAM and has an interesting interface. However, there is also a drawback - the web browser menu is in English by default, the localization language must be installed separately. However, this can be done with minimal time and effort.

1. Download and install the crack

To get started, go to the page of the official Pale Moon developer portal with language packs. In the rather large table you will also find the Russian language pack, which is called ru.xpi. After downloading this file, double-click it (if you are not prompted to “Install”). Answer yes to the question if you want to integrate the .xpi file into your browser.

2. Make changes to the Pale Moon configuration

In order to activate a language pack that has already been added to the Internet browser, you will need to make some configuration changes. In the Pale Moon address bar, write: about:config, then press Enter. A list of configurations will appear in the window. Find the setting in it: general.useragent.locale.

Double-click on it with the left mouse button. Instead of the value “en-US” (which means American English), enter “ru-RU” if you want to install the Russian language. The option “ua-UA” (in some cases “uk” or “ukr”) may also be available - to display the interface in Ukrainian. Press Enter.

3. Restart

Restart your Pale Moon browser. Quit the program through the task manager or simply by exiting it. And then start Pale Moon again. Now you can enjoy working with your favorite browser in Russian!

Pale Moon is a new software for browsing Internet sites, which is essentially an improved version of the well-known Mozilla Firefox browser. For the first time, the program was presented to the general public in 2009 and was designed to work on different platforms. So, you can download Pale Moon for free for such operating systems as: Windows, Linux, Mac OS and in beta version for Android.

The developer of the software product is the well-known company Moonchild Productions, and the application itself is open source.

Note: You can download the Pale Moon browser in Russian for Windows PC from our or the official website. It should be noted separately that the latest versions of the browser use Goanna as an engine - an offshoot of the well-known Mozilla Gecko.
When creating the Pale Moon Internet browser, the developers, first of all, focused on increasing the efficiency of the software and, it is worth saying, they succeeded.

Thanks to a whole set of various improvements and additions, the browser's performance, in comparison with its predecessor, has increased by more than 25%. Pale Moon interacts perfectly with all plugins and extensions supported by the official one, and also has the function of correcting errors inherent in the current version of its predecessor.

Differences from Mozilla Firefox

A significant difference between Pale Moon and its cross-platform predecessor is its focus on working with Windows OS, as well as disabling some functions present in Mozilla. It was the focus on one operating system that significantly optimized the operation of the application, speeding it up and thereby increasing efficiency. This feature of the program is a great advantage for users who prefer regular surfing, but may not be suitable for other purposes, as it has a number of disabled functions. Also, the application has a multilingual interface (more than 33 languages), but to use Russian as a working language, an additional installation of a Russifier is required.

The Pale Moon browser has a number of differences from its famous ancestor. Among them, the most relevant are:

  • The application has removed parental controls, ActiveX, and Accessibility Features.
  • The ability to scan downloaded files and the inspector are disabled.
  • The ability to add additional settings to improve scrolling and StatusBar has been installed.
  • You can download Pale Moon in Russian.
  • Added changes to the position of controls.
  • The search engine is installed by default.
  • The browser works only on the latest generation processors (for example, the same Athlon XP, which is no longer supported by software).
  • Uses 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows and Linux.
  • The latest versions of the browser run on the new Goanna engine, a fork of the Gecko browser engine used in Mozilla.
  • In the latest versions of the application (from version 27), the developer removed the Windows XP support feature.

There are other differences between the applications, among which it is worth paying attention to the following:
  1. Using Download Manager Tweak ensures smooth operation of the download manager in the sidebar of the browser, which Mozilla itself cannot boast of.
  2. Using Mozilla, you can make a partial selection of a link (to select the desired part, you need to hold down the Alt key and, while holding it, select the text). It is worth noting that this method is applicable only to ordinary links, and, for example, on Twitter, such an action will be regarded by the program as a mouse click. Such shortcomings are completely eliminated in the Pale Moon browser.
  3. In the context menu of the Mozilla browser there is an item that allows you to view all the information about images - size, caption, resolution, volume, as well as the path to the file, but all this can only be used in relation to cached files. This issue has been fixed in Pale Moon.
  4. The process of switching tabs has been optimized, allowing you to move from one tab to another as quickly as possible.
  5. The application implements the ability to move from one page to another using a spacebar.
  6. Using the Extended Statusbar extension, the user has the opportunity to add indicators from the Opera browser to the application status bar and thus receive complete information about the loading of image files, their weight, speed, etc.

Pale Moon, thanks to many quality changes and improvements, supports Firefox plugins and extensions, and can also fix errors that occur in Mozilla. Pale Moon, unlike the cross-platform Firefox, is adapted for Windows OS. It is this approach of the developers to the program that ensures its high performance.

This feature of the program allows you to load pages as quickly as possible; when using it, there is practically no freezing during loading. Also, it has a multilingual interface (more than 33 languages), but to use Russian as a working language, an additional installation of a Russifier is required.

Pale Moon- a web browser with all the necessary functions, optimized to increase speed and stability, improve the user experience when surfing the web.

Available for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Android and Linux, the independent, redesigned web browser remains compatible with many legacy Firefox extensions. Make sure you get the most out of your browser.

In the current generation of Gecko-based browsers, between Pale Moon and Firefox, in addition to the differences under the hood, there are significant differences in the interface. While Mozilla has implemented the new Australis user interface, Pale Moon continues to provide a familiar set of controls and visual feedback. The traditional design includes decently sized grouped navigation buttons, a bookmarks bar available by default, easily switchable tabs next to the content page, a functional status bar, and more options to customize/adapt the interface to suit your requirements.

Key features of Pale Moon

Optimized for modern processors.
Security: built on Firefox, updated regularly.
Supported by a friendly, active user community.
Familiar, efficient and fully customizable interface.
Fast and smooth web page rendering and script processing.
Increased stability: significantly fewer browser crashes.
Supports most Firefox extensions (add-ons) and themes.
Support for Pale Moon's own extensions and themes.
Extensive and growing support for HTML5 and CSS3.
Lots of customization and configuration options.

Pale Moon: Installing the Russian interface

  1. In the Pale Moon web browser, click on the Russian language pack link and select "Install Now".
  2. Open the settings page about:config (type in the address bar). If a warning page appears, click on the “I"ll be careful, I promise!” button.
  3. Find the general.useragent.locale parameter (you can use the search box).
  4. Change its value from en-US to ru (for Russian language).
  5. Restart your web browser and enjoy the Russian interface.

2. Selecting part of the links

In Fox it is possible to select part of a link by holding Alt. To do this, you need to disable Alt+Click saving. Find the browser.altClickSave parameter in about:config and switch it to false. To select part of the link you need to hold alt, select the text, first release the mouse button and then alt. This method works on regular links, but doesn't work on, say, Twitter names (it works like a click).
Bonus: To follow URI text as a link, use Text Link. Now you just need to double-click on the text with the site address, which is not a link.

3. Image properties

Firefox has a context menu item called View Image Info that shows the file format, pixel resolution, file path, caption, and weight. The weight is indicated only for cached images, which for some reason does not happen on some sites (for example, on Habré).

After closing Google Reader, I switched to Inoreader. It seems like everything you need is in place. By the way, they recently updated the design.

5. Switch tabs

For everything related to tabs, I use Tab Mix Plus. It allows you to switch tabs with a wheel, customize behavior, appearance, context menu and much more.
Tab Mix Plus also allows you to switch tabs using ctrl+tab with showing thumbnails or just a list. At the same time, they can be switched both in the order of use and in a row. You can switch with the mouse.

6. Go to the next page by space

Another killer feature of Opera is available with the Space Next extension. The idea is that the spacebar scrolls down the page, like the PgDn button. If you reach the end of the page and press the spacebar again, the extension automatically moves to the next page (for example, from the first to the second on the main Habr).

7. Site loading indicator

12. A separate story for the context menu of the forward/back buttons

13. Disable extension compatibility checking

P.S. Please note that I no longer particularly monitor changes in Firefox versions and some of the above may/may not work/not work there. The information was tested on the latest stable version of Pale Moon (24.5 at the time of publication) If you find a bug, please report it in the comments.
