Locust biography. The group "Locust" broke up

Citizenship: Russia

Judge for yourself: in just a few months, unknown musicians from Stavropol managed to open with their set a large-scale celebration of Bob Marley’s birthday in Gorbushka with the participation of Horace Andy from Masseve Attack, and also successfully performed at the Steb-Rock and Fun Funk Fest V festivals. 2.0 and at the birthday party of the website www. reggae. ru. In addition, the LOCUST set became one of the most striking events of the Anti-Format event held at the Expocenter. In May 2005, the group took part in the “Always Great Russia” event in Luzhniki, performing on the same stage with such musical groups as UMA2RMAN, DOLPHIN, CHECHERINA..

Every month the LOCUST group gave concerts in the cozy RJ Club. Despite the capital's show events, LOCUST continued to roam, giving concerts in various regions of our country. In the summer of 2005, “a flock of Orthoptera” went on their SARANCHA SOUND SYSTEM bus straight to the Crimea to KAZANTIP, where they played as many as three concerts: two on the St. Petersburg dance floor “HAPPINESS” and the third on the main dance floor, opening the CLOSING OF THE 2005 SEASON OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZANTIP. The group was charged with positive emotions, basked in the bright summer sun, swam in salt water and continued their journey to the hero city of Stavropol, where they gave a big concert in VICTORY PARK, gathering about 7,000 people.

“Locust” arose in the building of a former Stavropol merchant mansion, not far from Lermontov’s favorite Tiflis Gate. On the very spot where balls were held in the 19th century, and a little later, to the delight of lovers of nightlife, a real brothel opened.

In 2000, this dilapidated old building with glass ceilings became the rehearsal site for the newly formed rasta-beat team with the name “Locust” that excites the minds of entomologists. For the next five years, the musicians lived under the scorching sun of Stavropol, giving concert after concert, one more fiery than the other. Sometimes they looked towards the station: trains to Moscow left from there in the evenings. One of them took “Locust” to the capital, leaving the southern city with memories of the killer concerts of the public’s favorites, whose cult there is comparable, perhaps, only with the excitement around the Beatles in the homeland of the famous four in Liverpool. Even in Stavropol, Gorbachev’s homeland, there were TV and radio broadcasts full of “Locust”, and records of reggae heroes instantly disappearing from music stores.

During the time of moving and migrating around the country, the musicians got used to living in a commune. The core of the group is constantly surrounded by many musicians who take part in concerts and jams, introducing an element of creative chaos. Songs are often written during sound checks before concerts and take shape during the first performance a couple of hours later. This becomes possible due to the fact that all participants feel each other perfectly.

...Only a few months of capital acclimatization passed, and... in the spring of 2005, new characters of the festival scene appeared in Moscow. They played in half-abandoned squats like the “Third Way” and in the sparkling neon lights of “Orange”, in the pretentious Luzhniki and the cult “Tochka”, the legendary Gorbushka and the rocker “B2”. Gradually they began to be recognized. And love.

By the summer of 2005, “Locust” had collected the luggage needed in its quest for success. The video for the song “Yellow Snow,” which was filmed at the Russian Ministry of Atomic Energy Institute, has been in rotation on MUZ-TV since the end of June.

Retrospective of weak-lobed Orthoptera

The Locust materialized almost out of nowhere. Dimoss, who worked in February 2000 as MC in a nightclub, and several of his acquaintances decided to realize their ideas, inspired by the rhythms of sunny Jamaica. By pure chance, the decision to create the group was made on the birthday of Bob Marley, who has since become their transcendental patron.

As they were composing musical material, they began to think about the name of the new group. “Locust” came about as a result of a brainstorming session that lasted many sleepless nights, says Dimoss. “We really resemble a flock that constantly flies from place to place, and we also have huge musical and music lover appetites.”

Three months later, at a session for friends, the first five songs were revealed, among which “Yellow Snow” was performed for the first time, which later became the band’s calling card. After the musicians finished their set, the audience, completely stunned with delight, caught all the band members in the foyer and carried them back to the stage in their arms, demanding a repeat. I had to perform a short encore program.

A full-length action movie could be filmed about the musicians' further movements around the country. The St. Petersburg tour and the six-time assault on the Russian capital were ultimately crowned with success. “The shell of Moscow, against which we fought so many times,” says Dimoss, “constantly threw us back into our native collective farm. Now we felt it had burst.”

As soon as they appeared in the capital, the LOCUST group was invited to almost every major music festival and was invariably received by the diverse public with a bang.

Dimoss – voice (EM C), acoustic guitar, synth, maracas. Despite the rather predatory attitude of representatives of the Orthoptera order towards flora, the leader of the new musical formation received a profession that was exactly the opposite, having graduated from the Faculty of Plant Protection of the Stavropol State Agrarian University. He practically does not eat meat solely due to the characteristics of his body. Author of lyrics and music, ideologist of the group. In addition to music, he is engaged in artistic creation and periodically organizes interesting exhibitions.
Ramon – space guitar, backing. He found himself in the group six months after its creation and, according to the group, is responsible for “romanticism and cosmic moments,” using the most unimaginable guitar processors and gadgets.
Fidel – bass guitar, backing. He stood at the origins of the group. Lover of beautiful life and holidays. Musical by nature, Fidel is from the breed of those who do not strain, while being an exceptionally reliable person on stage and in life.
Balyk - guitar. Played with all the musical groups in Stavropol. In addition to playing, he is well versed in old and unique guitars.
Evgeny Maidansky - synthesizers, accordion, backing. He got his stage name (or rather surname) from the common expression “to hang out on the Maidans” - to play in electric trains. Brought up on serious music, kind and even a little shy, he can single-handedly “ignite” a holiday. By education, he is a teacher of German.
Golovanov VitYok - drums, percussion, backing. By all accounts, he is a high-class professional, despite the fact that he is the youngest member of the group. He graduated from the Stavropol Regional School of Arts and successfully entered the State University of Culture and Arts. While still studying, he was involved in both jazz bands and groups of pop stars of the first magnitude, but gave up this activity for the opportunity to realize himself in his own project. It became “Locust”.
