Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker

The main character, who is probably known to anyone who can theoretically read this article, is Darth Vader, the Sith Lord and the watchdog of the supreme villain of the Empire.

His enormous significance in the world of Star Wars is determined primarily by the fact that he played a key role both in the first episodes of the epic and in subsequent ones. In his childhood and adolescence, before turning to the dark side, his name was Anakin Skywalker, and great hopes were placed on him: the boy was considered the chosen one, capable of restoring the balance of power and destroying the Sith. Despite his low origins, Anakin managed to become one of the strongest Jedi and achieve great influence both in the Order and in politics.

However, the Dark Lord of the Sith, Chancellor Palpatine, managed to play on his feelings for his beloved, and tricked him into switching to the dark side. Where Anakin, or rather Vader, achieved even more - he became the commander-in-chief of the troops and the second man in the Empire after the Emperor himself.

Darth Skywalker took part in the main battles of the epic. He fought twice with his Jedi master Obi Wan Kenobi, with the Sith Lord Count Dooku and with his own son Luke Skywalker. It was he who played a key role in the formation of the Empire, and then he destroyed it.

Featured Quote:"I am your father!"

Master Yoda

A seemingly tiny green creature, but in fact the Grand Master of the Jedi Order. Yoda trained the most powerful knights in the saga, including Luke Skywalker, Dooku, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Kit Fisto and Mace Windu. And he himself was the strongest and wisest Jedi of his time. He fought Count Dooku, his past student, and Darth Sidious, the dark lord of the Sith. Without Yoda's wisdom, the Empire would not have been defeated.

And also, without it, we wouldn’t have learned to speak by rearranging words in a funny way in a sentence.

Featured Quote: “Ready, then? What do you know about that? He taught the Jedi for eight hundred years. I will decide for myself who to take for training.”

Palpatine/Darth Sidious

The most insidious character in the Star Wars saga is the Dark Lord of the Sith. He was a senator for a long time, was friends with the main characters and successfully pretended to be a friend of the Republic, which did not stop him from weaving vile intrigues against his own « friends » . It was he who managed to transfer Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, it was he who managed to destroy the Republic, and it was he who became the victim of his own atrocities. Killed (?) by his student - Darth Vader.

Featured Quote: “We stand on the threshold of a new world. For security and stability, the Republic will be transformed into the first Galactic Empire, a society of security and reliability that will exist for ten thousand years. An empire that will be governed by this majestic assembly and a sovereign ruler elected for life.”

Padme Amidala

Queen of the planet Naboo, senator of the Galactic Senate, wife of Anakin Skywalker, mother of Luke and Princess Leia. Despite her seemingly minor role, she influenced many events in the film. If the Jedi had not saved the queen, they would never have met the unusual slave boy from Tatooine, who later became Darth Vader; If Anakin had not fallen in love with Padme, he would not have fallen to the dark side; If Padme had not given birth to two talented children - Luke and Leia - the Empire would not have been defeated!

Featured Quote: “Obi-Wan... There's still good in him... I know. It’s in him..."

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Teacher of Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker. It was Obi-Wan who, in the first battle with Anakin, cut off both his legs and an arm and burned him with lava. After this battle, Darth Vader was forced to put on a mask and a life support suit. Years later, Obi-Wan Kenobi, in his second battle with Darth Vader, for some reason stopped fighting, raised his sword, and as a result was defeated by his former student.

Featured Quote: “You were the chosen one! They predicted that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! You will restore the balance of the Force, and not plunge it into darkness!”

Luke Skywalker

Son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé. A key character in the war with the Empire, a student of Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi. With the help of nobility and kindness, he managed to convince his father, Darth Vader, to once again turn to the light side and become a Jedi. He was equally good with the sword and the word, so he became famous as a talented warrior, a good speaker and a loyal friend.

Featured Quote: "I am a Jedi, just like my father."

Han Solo

A Corellian of high birth, who, due to his internal qualities, could not serve the Empire and became a smuggler. Adventurous, arrogant, but unconditionally loyal to his friends, he helped Luke throughout the war and played an important role in the victory over the Empire.

The most charismatic character in the saga, the husband of Luke Skywalker's sister, Princess Leia. Chewbacca's best friend, whom he rescued from slavery. Pilot and owner « ]]> Millennium Falcon]]> » .

Featured Quote: "You like me because I'm a scoundrel."

Princess Leia (Leia Organa Solo)

Daughter of Anakin and Padme. The youngest senator on the Galactic Council. She secretly supported the rebels fighting against the Empire, for which she became its enemy and was captured. As the story progresses, she, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker begin a love triangle. While Luke is her twin brother. However, they didn’t know about it then. Leia eventually married Han Solo.

Featured Quote:"Vader's death may have been heroic, but ten minutes of repentance cannot erase years of atrocities."

Chewbacca

Wookiee, Han Solo's best friend. A talented mechanic and pilot, he helped Luke Skywalker and his friends during the war with the Empire.

Featured Quote: “Wa-wa-waaaaa!!”

Anakin Skywalker

However, Anakin took his first step towards the Dark Side of the Force long before these events - when on Tatooine he exterminated the entire Sand People tribe, avenging his mother Shmi Skywalker. Anakin's next step towards the Dark Side of the Force was the murder of the unarmed Count Dooku on the orders of Chancellor Palpatine. And finally, he took the decisive step when he betrayed Jedi Master Windu and helped Palpatine defeat him.

Suppression of the Rebellion

Darth Vader commanded the Empire's military forces. The rebels sometimes mistook him for the Leader of the Empire, and forgot about the Emperor. He inspired fear throughout the galaxy. Thanks to the brutality of his operations, the rebels had a hard time. In general, he is indirectly guilty of the beginning of the war: while still a Jedi knight, he foresaw the death of his wife and, of course, did not want it. Darth Sidious, aka Palpatine, was then the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic and took advantage of this to lure Anakin to the Dark Side. After Anakin became Darth Vader, Order No. 66 came into force, after which most of the Jedi Knights were destroyed, and the Grand Army of the Republic, in accordance with the charter, came under the direct control of the Supreme Chancellor. During the rebellion, Vader played the role of a target for the Rebels to eliminate, as well as a deity for the Empire. He acted without miscalculations or misfires. Vader was a genius of war. Any miscalculation on the part of his subordinates was strictly punished by his favorite measure of torture - strangulation at a distance. Darth Vader and Darth Sidious, unlike other Sith, had full access to the Jedi data archive. At any moment, they could look at the file on any Jedi or event that happened. Because of his punitive functions and unconditional devotion to the Emperor, he commanded respect from his soldiers, and among the rebels he received the nicknames “The Emperor’s Chain Dog” and “His Majesty’s Personal Executioner.”

Darth Vader

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Anakin Skywalker appears under the name Darth Vader. He was played by bodybuilder David Prowse and two stunt doubles (one of them Bob Anderson), and Vader's voice belongs to actor James Earl Jones. Darth Vader is the main antagonist: the cunning and cruel leader of the army of the Galactic Empire, which rules the entire Galaxy. Vader appears as Emperor Palpatine's apprentice. He uses the dark side of the Force to prevent the collapse of the Empire and destroy the Rebel Alliance, which seeks to restore the Galactic Republic. On the other hand, Darth Vader (or the Dark Lord) is one of the greatest figures in the Star Wars universe. As one of the most powerful Sith, he is endeared to many fans of the anthology and is a very charismatic character.

New Hope

Vader is tasked with recovering the stolen Death Star plans and finding the Rebel Alliance's secret base. He captures and tortures Princess Leia Organa and is present when Death Star commander Grand Moff Tarkin destroys her home planet of Alderaan. Soon after, he fights with lightsabers with his former master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who arrived on the Death Star to save Leia, and kills him (Obi-Wan becomes a Force spirit). He then meets Luke Skywalker at the Battle of the Death Star, and senses his great ability in the Force; this is confirmed later when the youth destroys the battle station. Vader was about to shoot down Luke with his TIE Fighter (TIE Advanced x1), but an unexpected attack Millennium Falcon, piloted by Han Solo, sends Vader far into space.

The Empire Strikes Back

After the destruction of the rebel base "Echo" on the planet Hoth by the Empire, Darth Vader sends bounty hunters. bounty hunters) in search of the Millennium Falcon. Aboard his Star Destroyer, he executes Admiral Ozzel and Captain Niida for their mistakes. Meanwhile, Boba Fett manages to discover the Falcon and track its progress to the gas giant Bespin. Finding that Luke is not on the Falcon, Vader captures Leia, Han, Chewbacca, and C-3PO to lure Luke into a trap. He makes a deal with Cloud City administrator Lando Calrissian to hand Han over to bounty hunter Boba Fett, and freezes Solo in carbonite. Luke, who at this time is being trained in the use of the Light Side of the Force under the guidance of Yoda on the planet Dagobah, senses the danger threatening his friends. The young man goes to Bespin to fight Vader, but is defeated and loses his right hand. Vader then reveals to him the truth: he is Luke's father, and not Anakin's killer, as Obi Wan Kenobi told young Skywalker, and offers to overthrow Palpatine and rule the Galaxy together. Luke refuses and jumps down. He is sucked into a trash chute and thrown towards Cloud City's antennas, where he is rescued by Leia, Chewbacca, Lando, C-3PO and R2-D2 in the Millennium Falcon. Darth Vader tries to stop the Millennium Falcon, but it goes into hyperspace. After which Vader leaves without saying a word.

Return to the Light Side

The events described in this section take place in the film"Star Wars. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi »

Vader is tasked with overseeing the completion of the second Death Star. He meets with Palpatine aboard the half-completed station to discuss Luke's plan to turn to the Dark Side.

At this time, Luke had practically completed his training in the art of the Jedi and learned from the dying Master Yoda that Vader was indeed his father. He learns about his father's past from the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and also learns that Leia is his sister. During an operation on the forest moon of Endor, he surrenders to Imperial forces and is brought before Vader. Aboard the Death Star, Luke resists the Emperor's call to give vent to his anger and fear for his friends (and thus turn to the dark side of the Force). However, Vader, using the Force, penetrates Luke's mind, learns of Leia's existence and threatens to turn her into a servant of the Dark Side of the Force in his place. Luke gives in to his rage and nearly kills Vader by cutting off his father's right hand. But at that moment the young man sees Vader's cybernetic hand, then looks at his own, realizes that he is dangerously close to his father's fate, and curbs his anger.

Vader's costume design was influenced by the costume worn by Lightning, a villain in the television series Fighting the Devil's Hounds, and Japanese samurai masks, but also featured similarities between Vader's armor and the costume of Marvel Comics supervillain Dr. Death.

Vader's iconic breathing noise was created by Ben Burtt, who breathed through an underwater mask with a small microphone in the regulator. He initially recorded many variations of breath sounds, from rattling and asthmatic to cold and mechanical. The more mechanical version was mostly chosen, and the more rattling version was chosen in Return of the Jedi, after Vader was fatally damaged by Sidious' Force lightning. Vader was originally going to sound like an emergency room, with clicks and beeps as long as he was in frame. However, it turned out that this was too distracting, and all this noise was cut down to just breathing.

One of the canon changes regarding the suit was that by 4 ABY, Vader's left shoulder was completely artificial, and in 3 ABY, after his encounter with Luke on Bespin, he noted that his right shoulder had healed well. Since the bionic shoulder could not heal, Vader's right shoulder must have still been made of his own flesh, although earlier, on Mimban, Vader's right arm was amputated from the shoulder. This information may be somewhat incorrect, as throughout the 2nd and 3rd of his Episodes we see how Anakin Skywalker first lost his right arm below the elbow (in a battle with Count Dooku (replaced with a prosthetic in the same Episode 2)), and then lost his left arm below the elbow, and both legs below the knees (duel with Obi-Wan ), which were also replaced with prosthetics at the end of Revenge of the Sith, during Anakin's final transformation into Darth Vader. However, whether Vader spoke of this healing literally, sarcastically or metaphorically is unknown. Another change was that in Episode III, Vader's completely new suit was made different from the original design, although only slightly to give it a new, newly created look. Several small changes to the length of the neck and shoulder joints gave Vader's movements a more mechanical appearance. Another change in canon is that Vader's chest panel changed slightly from III to IV and from IV to V and VI. The canonical reason for this has not yet been stated. Additionally, this control panel contained ancient Jewish symbols, which some fans believe translate to "His deeds will not be forgiven until he deserves it."

The costume has been referenced several times in the Expanded Universe. For example, in the Star Wars Legacy comics, Cade Skywalker appears wearing a pair of pants very similar to some of Vader's clothing. Also in Star Wars Unification, when Mara tries on wedding dresses, one of them resembles Vader's armor. Leia tells the designer that the reason Mara rejected him is because "The bride doesn't want to dress like the groom's father."

Criticism and reviews

This character is one of the most famous pop idol villains in cinematic history.

...the presence of the disease also explains the popularity of Vader’s character among teenagers. It is noted that young people see Darth Vader as a kindred spirit, since young viewers themselves often suffer from borderline personality disorder.

In this article you will learn:

Darth Vader- formerly Anakin Skywalker, the greatest villain, Sith Lord from the Star Wars universe. The hero's story, like many other characters in this universe, consists of Canon (original history) and Legends.

To find out what happened to Vader before he succumbed to the dark side, read the article ““.

Canon

Revenge of the Sith

Anakin Skywalker followed the lead of the Chancellor, who promised to teach him the techniques of the dark side and the power over death, which made it possible to save the hero’s wife from death. Because in a dream, Anakin saw his wife dying.

19 BBY, Skywalker informed the Jedi Council of the Chancellor's identity and, disobeying orders, followed the masters who wanted to arrest Palpatine.

In a mortal battle, Palpatine almost died by hand, but was saved by Skywalker, who disarmed the Jedi. This fatal act, in which Windu died, caused Anakin to experience the greatest feeling of guilt. His spirit was broken and he accepted the dark side without hesitation, becoming the student of Darth Sidious.

Having joined the Order of the Sith, Anakin ceased to exist, becoming the legendary Darth Vader.

"Now stand up...Darth Vader!"

Anakin becomes Darth Sidious' apprentice

An excellent manipulator, Palpatine convinced Vader that the Jedi were traitors and traitors who must be destroyed.

Taking control of the 501st Legion, the hero attacked the Jedi Temple, killing absolutely everyone, including the masters and little younglings. This attack on the Temple was the beginning of the Great Jedi Purge.

"Do what you must, Darth Vader. No hesitation, no mercy"

Having completed the task, Sidious gave Vader a new assignment - to end the Clone Wars and bring peace to the Galaxy by killing members of the Separatist Council on the planet Mustafar.

Arriving on Mustafar, Vader easily made his way into the meeting room, where he killed every single one. The latest to be killed was Nute Gunray (Viceroy of the Trade Federation), an ally of Sidious, who attacked Naboo 13 years ago. After Gunray's death, all droids were disabled.(The Empire only used clones).

Although Vader still had doubts, he convinced himself that everything he did was for the good of the Republic (naive Anakin).

While returning to his ship, Vader saw the approaching ship of Padmé, who was deeply upset by the massacre at the Temple. He tried to convince her that he was to blame for everything, wanting to turn his wife against her husband. Padmé asked to fly away with her, but Vader insisted otherwise, dreaming of overthrowing Sidious in order to take his place.

When Vader saw his former master Kenobi, who was hiding on Amidala's ship, he thought that his wife had betrayed him and used a power grab on her. Filled with hatred, Vader engaged Kenobi in battle.

Anakin Skywalker played by Hayden Christensen

The duel of the great masters was long and ended on the bank of a lava river. Vader was so confident in his abilities that he did not hesitate to attack the Jedi from a bad position. As a result of this, Dart dared both legs and left arm. Screaming words of hatred towards Kenobi, Vader's body burst into flames.

Obi-Wan left his former student to die.

Vader's body was half burned, but he maintained himself with the help of the Force and hatred. Darth Sidious came to the student's aid. Vader was rushed to Coruscant, where his damaged body parts were repaired. To increase his anger, Sidious ordered the student to remain conscious while the operation was underway. He began to look more like a cyborg than a human. It contained technologies that were used in the creation.

When Vader asked about Padme, Sidious lied that he had killed her in anger, after which the hero used the Force to destroy the droids and damage the premises. Vader's only goal from now on was to serve his master.

Horrible wounds and psychological trauma robbed Vader of much of his power, potential and changed his character completely. In his new heavy armor, Vader was clumsy and his mask limited his vision, forcing him to change his fighting style. The Sith considered himself inferior, stuck in tight armor that caused attacks of claustrophobia.

Legends

In the service of the Emperor

No longer having a purpose in life other than to serve his master, Vader became the second in command of the Empire. He now has a personal palace on Coruscant. Darth's personal soldiers were stormtroopers of the 501st Legion, who were called "Vader's Fist".

Vader carried out the tasks of Sidious, attracting large forces to the side of the Empire. His main task was Order 66, which was to find and destroy the remnants of the Jedi.

Leaving the past behind forever, the Sith also changed the color of his sword to red.

In one of his first missions, Vader was sent by Sidious to Mercana to deal with clone commandos who refused to kill fellow Jedi. On this mission, the Sith were attacked by Jedi Bol Shetak, who attempted to protect the commandos. In this fight, only thanks to power, Vader managed to win. Vader himself considered this mission a failure, since he missed two more Jedi Roan Shryne and Ollie Starstone.

The lord's complaints about his own weakness forced Sidious to send him to the Jedi Temple, where Vader was supposed to remember the massacre he had committed there. Instead, the Sith fell into memories and from that time on could no longer be in places that reminded him of the past: Naboo and Tatooine.

Veidr's next victim was Fang Zar, a senator who was taking refuge in Bail Organa's palace. Although Sidious wanted to get Zar alive, Vader accidentally killed him. This was the ruler's second failure, for which he received a reprimand.

Weakness drove Sith crazy. He sought revenge on Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was responsible for this. When the Lord learned about the possible location of the Jedi, he went there. On Kessel, where Kenobi was supposed to appear, Vader fell into the trap of eight Jedi. He killed the first two with a sword, the third was strangled with a powerful hand. The pressure of the Jedi left the Sith without an arm and a damaged leg, but Vader continued to fight until the soldiers of the 501st Legion came to help.

Returning to the Emperor, Vader learned that Sidious had spread rumors about the destruction of 50 Jedi by his student, in place of 8 with the help of clones (so Vader’s greatness is far-fetched).

Attack on Kashyyyk

Vader continued his training, partnering with Imperial Moff Wilhuff Tarkin. Along with him, he used the presence of the Jedi on Kashyyyk as a reason to invade the planet. The purpose of this operation was to enslave the Wookiees, which were to be used in the construction of the Death Star.

When the bombardment of Kashyyyk began, Vader landed near the city of Kachiro, where the Jedi were hiding, and, cutting his way through the corpses of the Wookiees, advanced to the enemy positions. Vader defeated five Jedi who came to the aid of the Wookiees, meeting with Master Roan Shryne, who left him on Mercan.

Vader's power and strength increased significantly, so he easily defeated Shryne, revealing to him the secret of his identity. Having defeated the master, Vader felt that he had achieved incredible power and no longer considered armor to be his prison.

After the victory of the Empire, Palpatine released messages to the media about his student, mysterious to many inhabitants of the galaxy, and Vader, feeling the power, began to think about how to overthrow his teacher.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

On Kashyyyk, Vader also fought with the Jedi and found his little son Galen in one of the houses. The Sith was going to kill the boy, but felt great power in him, taking him as his student.

No one knew that Vader had a student. He began to train the boy, instilling in him hatred and anger. Darth wanted to use the student to oppose the Emperor, since Galen had enormous power, greater than himself.

After 10 years of training, in 2 BBY, Vader's apprentice was ready. The Sith christened him(Star Killer) and gave the first task, which was the “meaning of his life” to find the survivors of Order 66, the Jedi. At the student's disposal, Vader gave the Proxy holodroid and the starship "Rogue Shadow" with a charming pilot.

After killing several Jedi, Vader appeared with Starkiller before Palpatine. Unexpectedly, he betrayed the student by “killing” him. As the Sith later explained to the surviving Starkiller, the Emperor found out about the student and the imaginary death saved his life.

To defeat Sidious, Vader sent Starkiller with the task of gathering all members of the Alliance with the goal of destroying the Emperor. Darth's plan was insidious; he again framed his student, forcing him to gather all the enemies of the Empire in one place. When the meeting took place, all the heads of the Alliance were arrested. In the battle with the student, Vader emerged victorious.

Starkiller survived and soon returned to take revenge on his teacher. Having penetrated the under construction Death Star, he fought with the Sith Lord and defeated him. Sidious invited Galen to take Vader's place, but Marek chose the side of light. To save the members of the Alliance, he sacrificed his own life, becoming the first Hero of the Rebellion.

After this incident, Vader seriously thought about how to overthrow Sidious.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2

1 BBY, Vader cloned Galen Marek's body on Kamino. Many clones went crazy until a perfect clone was created, number 1138. However, this clone fled, tormented by the memories of the original.

To return Starkiller, Vader hired Boba Fett, who stole Juno Eclipse, with whom Marek was in love.

Nothing good came of this, as Starkiller teamed up with the Alliance and struck Kamino, where clones were being created for the Empire. In a fight with a clone apprentice, Vader lost. So, Kamino came under the control of the Alliance, and Darth himself was captured. The Sith Lord was awaiting trial, but Boba Fett saved him.

Vader's apprentice disappeared and all plans to overthrow the Emperor failed.

Darth Vader vs Starkiller

New Hope

In 0 BBY, Vader returned to his business, wanting to locate the Rebel base and find the stolen plans for the Death Star. According to the 501st Legion, the plans were on a ship from Alderaan that was flying to the Tantive IV.

The princess's ship was intercepted, but the plans escaped the Sith's hands. The interrogation of the senator from Alderaan also yielded nothing. At that time, Vader had no idea that he was torturing his own daughter.

Having tracked the traces of the droid in which Leia hid the plans, Vader sent a team to Tatooine, where Owen and Bera Lars were executed while trying to find out information about the droid.

Vader continued to torture Leia, trying to find out from her the location of the Rebel base. Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin suggested using another method of torture - genocide. Under the threat of the destruction of Alderaan, Organa gave away the location - Dantooine. However, Tarkin still destroyed the planet.

Darth Vader vs Kenobi

“He’s more machine than man now, an evil twisted machine.” Kenobi

Soon, the Death Star attracted the Millennium Falcon, which ended up near the destroyed Alderaan. On board the ship were: , and . For the first time in many years, Vader felt the presence of his old master.

The Lord quietly wandered through the corridors of the station until he met Obi-Wan. Their duel was short, as Kenobi simply extinguished his sword, merging with the Force. Despite this, Vader felt that he had avenged his crippled body.

After allowing the Millennium Falcon to leave with Leleya Organa and the plans for the Death Star on board, Vader began to track the ship using the beacon that was installed on it.

The beacon led the Death Star to the planet Yavin, near which a legendary battle took place, which resulted in the destruction of the Empire's greatest weapon by the new Rebel hero, Luke Skywalker (son of Anakin). Vader himself, fighting on a TIE fighter, almost died.

For these actions, Vader received another reprimand from the Emperor.

Soon, Darth learned the name of the pilot who had the highest score in the Battle of Yavin, it turned out to be 19-year-old Skywalker. Vader wanted to capture his son in order to turn him to the dark side.

Luke was captured by the Empire several times, but always managed to escape.

The Empire Strikes Back

In 3 ABY, a Rebel base on Hoth was discovered. During the attack on the planet, most of the rebels managed to escape.

After the battle, which ended in victory for the Empire, Vader received orders from Sidious to capture Luke Skywalker, whom he wanted to make his new apprentice, replacing father with son.

In order to catch the Millennium Falcon, the Lord used all his connections with bounty hunters. He found out where the ship went and set up an ambush in Cloud City, owned by Lando Calrissian, who won it in Sabacc. Han Solo, by agreement with Boba Fett, was frozen in carbonite and handed over to the mercenary. Leia Organa and Chewbacca were supposed to become Vader's prisoners, but Calrissian unexpectedly saved them.

To save his friends, Luke Skywalker also flew to Cloud City and dueled with Vader. During the battle, the young Jedi lost his hand, after which the Sith Lord revealed his essence to him:

Vader: « Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father?»

Luke: « Quite enough! He said you killed him!»

Vader: « No. I am your father!»

Refusing to join his father, Luke jumped into the mine.

Vader found his son's lightsaber, which had once belonged to him, and his severed hand, which he presented to the Emperor as trophies.

Sidious began to notice changes in Vader, who was very concerned about his son, whom he personally wanted to lure to the side of darkness. Therefore, the Emperor decided to kill Luke by sending him to Tatooine to Jabba's palace. However, Mara was unable to get inside.

Return of the Jedi

Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker

In 4 ABY, Vader was overseeing the construction of the Death Star 2 when he sensed Luke approaching in a shuttle bound for the moon Endor. Dart did not touch the shuttle.

On the moon, Luke himself surrendered to the Imperials and was taken to Vader. In an attempt to protect his son from Palpatine, Darth tried to convince him to join him, but Skywalker refused.

“I know there is goodness in you. The Emperor was unable to eradicate him entirely.” Luke

Aboard the Death Star, in the presence of Palpatine, the decisive battle between Luke and Vader took place. Darth tried to persuade his son to the dark side by threatening the safety of Leia, Luke's sister. In anger, Skywalker cut off Vader's hand, which, like his own, turned out to be mechanical, which forced him to rethink the situation and extinguish the sword.

Palpatine wanted Luke to finish off his father, but he refused, which forced Vader to return to his bright beginning. In Darth's dark heart, Anakin Skywalker woke up again, who, seeing Palpatine trying to kill his son with Force lightning, picked him up and threw him into the reactor shaft.

Palpatine's power damaged Vader's life support. He asked Luke to take off his mask to see his son with his own eyes for the last time. Thus died the Chosen One, who brought balance to the Force.

His spirit appeared to Luke and Leia, after which he found peace.

In this article you will learn:

Anakin Skywalker- Jedi of the human race. Anakin's original story is perhaps the most complete, as he appears in most of the Star Wars films and cartoons.

Christensen as Anakin

Birth and childhood

The hero's mother was Shmi Skywalker from the planet Tatooine. He didn’t know his father, but there are rumors that he was a Sith who could control midi-chlorians. Since this has not been confirmed, it is believed that the boy was conceived artificially.

He was born in 42 BBY on the desert planet Tatooine, but Anakin himself assumed that he only grew up on the arid planet, where he arrived at the age of about three years.

Ani grew up as a blue-eyed, kind-hearted, hard-working boy who dreamed of one day becoming a star pilot. But his dreams were not destined to come true, since the Skywalkers were property, slaves of Gardulla the Hutt.

After several years of working for Gardulla, he lost his family in a race to a Toydarian, a parts dealer named Watto, and the Skywalkers found a new owner.

At the age of eight, Anakin first learned about the Sith. An old Republican pilot told him about the great wars of the past, who believed that in those wars not all the Sith died and only one managed to survive.

The hero was a very gifted child. He was very successful in mathematics and technology. At such a young age, Eni could put together anything. So he assembled his own car and robot , having finished work around the age of nine.

Hidden threat

In the 1999 film The Phantom Menace, we first meet a boy played by actor Jake Lloyd.

In 32 BBY, when the hero was only 10 years old, his life changed dramatically. Knowledge of technology and good nature allowed Ani to meet space travelers: a Jedi, a Gungan, R2-D2 and a girl, whom he mistook for an “angel.”

Anakin invited his new friends to his home to wait out the sandstorm, where he learned their true purpose for arriving on Tatooine - to escape from the Trade Federation to the Senate on Coruscant in order to stop the invasion of Naboo. The travelers' hyperdrive was broken and Eni volunteered to help, revealing a desire to participate in the Bunta Yves Classic race in order to win enough money to buy it. The mother could not refuse her son’s desire to help.

Anakin, Shmi and Amidala

Qui-Gon Jinn saw Skywalker's potential, his lightning-fast reactions, and upon checking, he was surprised to learn that his midichlarian level was higher than that of himself. Anakin, in turn, was very eager to become a Jedi in order to help everyone, which gave Qui-Gon the idea to free the boy.

Before the race, the Genie made a bet with the owner of the Skywalkers. But subject to Anakin's victory, Watto agreed to release only the boy, leaving his mother with him.

The hero won this race. Now he was free. Anakin was faced with a choice: live on Tatooine with his mother or go with the Jinn and become a Jedi. Skywalker left Tatooine, promising that he would return to free his mother.

Jake Lloyd as little Anakin

So Anakin went on his first journey.

With Qui-Gon and Queen Amidala (the girl pretended to be her own servant), to whom Ani became very attached, he arrived on Coruscant, where he appeared before the High Council. The Council refused to train the boy, although Qui-Gon was convinced that Anakin was the Chosen One (the One who would bring balance to the Force).

The boy was experiencing emotions left over from life as a slave, so the masters believed that he would not be able to achieve the state of peace that a true Jedi needs.

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear breeds anger; Anger breeds hatred; Hatred is the key to suffering. I feel strong fear in you.

Not knowing where to go now, Anakin tagged along with Jinn, with whom he flew to Naboo, with a mission to liberate the planet from occupation by the Trade Federation.

By chance, Anakin took a direct part in the Battle of Naboo in space. He single-handedly managed to destroy an entire orbital station that controlled droids on the planet, ending the invasion.

Although Skywalker emerged victorious, sad news awaited him on earth. In a battle with, Kawai-Gon died. The dying Jinn made Obi-Wan Kenobi, his student, promise to train the boy and the Council accepted that Anakin would learn the Force.

After the victory on Naboo, the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic himself promised to monitor Skywalker's progress.

Obi-Wan's Apprentice

Eni’s innate abilities instantly placed him above his peers, which began to feed his pride. He often showed off, spoke out against the opinions of his elders, and did not show much respect for Obi-Wan, whom he looked down on somewhat.

Obi-Wan became more than just a teacher to Anakin, he was like a father to him. Secretly, Skywalker believed that his strength was many times greater than that of his teacher and Kenobi was holding him back. This fact made their relationship confusing and contradictory.

When Anakin didn’t get along with Kenobi, he went to his “friend” Palpatine, who stroked the Jedi’s pride with praise.

In 28 BBY, Anakin created his first lightsaber in the caves of Ilum..

Attack of the Clones

"Attack of the Clones" is the second film in which we see Anakin. Its events take place 10 years after the end of the plot of the first part. In this film, the grown-up Anakin is played by actor Hayden Christensen.

Skywalker and Kenobi

In 22 BBY, Padmé Amidala, who was now a senator from the Chommell sector, was assassinated. Anakin, who had not seen Padmé for ten years, was appointed her personal protector. For ten years, Skywalker did not stop thinking about Amidala, and now that he was with her, his attraction grew into love.

On Naboo, where Padmé was hiding with her protector, she agreed to him, kissing him for the first time. Amidala was more prudent than Skywalker because she thought about the consequences. Anakin, on the other hand, was focused on feelings, breaking the tradition of the Order to be attached only to the Force.

For a long time, Anakin suffered from nightmares in which he saw his mother. A new nightmare he saw on Naboo forced him to violate his orders to protect Amidala, taking her with him to Tatooine to find Shmi. On Tatooine, the hero learned that his mother was freed by the farmer Cligg Lars, who married her. At the Lars farm, Ani was told that Shmi had been kidnapped by Tusken raiders, so the hero immediately rushed to find her.

Using his instincts, Anakin found Shmi, but it was already too late. His mother died in his arms. This death caused such anger that the Jedi massacred the entire raider tribe, including women and children. Even Yoda felt Skywalker's pain and anger.

With the death of his mother, the Jedi had a terrible desire to gain such power with which he could save people from death.

Padmé: « There are things that cannot be fixed, you are not omnipotent, Anakin.»

Anakin: « There should be! One day I will... I will become the most powerful Jedi! I promise you. I will learn to make sure people don't die!»

Arriving on Tatooine, Anakin learned that his teacher had been captured by the Confederacy on Geonosis. Skywalker's goal was to protect Amidala, but she persuaded the Jedi to go to rescue Kenobi. Ani left Tatooine taking his droid C-3PO with him.

Arriving on Geonosis, the couple was captured and exhibited, along with the previously captured Obi-Wan, in the gladiator arena. Faced with the threat of death, Anakin and Padmé confessed their love to each other. The trio was saved from certain death by the arrival of the Jedi and the clone army.

Leaving Amidala, Ani and his teacher began to pursue the leader of the Confederation and a former Jedi (note: Qui-Gon Jinn's teacher). Skywalker lost his arm in the battle with him and almost died if Yoda didn’t come to the rescue.

Dooku cuts off Anakin's hand

Anakin was implanted with a mechanical arm and while he was in the Temple for treatment, Yoda and Kenobi tried to convince Amidala to end her relationship with him. Padmé lied and she and Skywalker soon married. The secret wedding ceremony took place in Varikino on Naboo. The only witnesses were the droids C-3PO and R2-D2.

Clone War

This war made Anakin a legend. He became renowned as a top fighter pilot, earning the rare title of Thane.

During the war, Skywalker was not concerned about his own life, as he was worried about the health of his teacher, Palpatine, the soldiers who acted under his leadership, and even the astro droid R2-D2. The Jedi broke more and more rules. He increasingly feared for Padmé's life.

Anakin vs Ventress

On a mission on the planet Naboo, Skywalker met Asajj Ventress, a Dark Jedi who became a fierce enemy of both Anakin and Kenobi.

During the war, Obi-Wan took in Padawan Halaged Ventor for training, with whom Anakin became very close friends.

The Clone War was a terrible event in the life of a Jedi. During the battles on the planet Jabiim, Skywalker received a message about the alleged death of his teacher. This made the hero more reckless. He rushed into the thick of things along with clones, padawans and Jedi. When Palpatine wanted to evacuate Anakin from the planet, he agreed, soon learning that everyone he fought with had died.

For his heroic actions in the war, Anakin was declared a Jedi Knight. Skywalker sent the Padawan's cut off braid to his wife as a sign of love.

Arriving on Coruscant, Anakin wanted to meet his wife, but fell into the trap of Asajj Ventress. The Dark Jedi promised to kill Amidala, which once again sent Skywalker into a rage. In this duel, the hero received his famous scar above his right eye. He emerged victorious, but Ventress managed to survive.

Anakin continued to participate in battles for the Republic. While fighting on the planet Christophis, his first student was assigned to the Jedi. After the victory on Christophis, Anakin, although reluctantly, accepted the Padawan.

Anakin and Ahsoka

Together with Ahsoka, Ani completed quite a few missions. Together, they saved Jabba's son, participated in the mission to liberate the planet Kyros, saved the Jedi Master Plo Koon,

Although Anakin and Ahsoka became friends, Tano left the Jedi.

In the Battle of Coruscant, when the Confederacy invaded, the Republic managed to win, but Chancellor Palpatine was captured.

Revenge of the Sith

Skywalker and Kenobi went to save the chancellor. After finding Palpatine, the Jedi engaged Count Dooku in battle. The Count was still strong, so he quickly knocked out Kenobi, crossing swords with Anakin. War-hardened Skywalker suddenly won, cutting off both of the Sith's hands.

After Palpatine ordered Dooku to be killed, the Jedi beheaded him, taking another step towards darkness. When the Chancellor tried to persuade him to leave Kenobi, Anakin refused.

Returning to Coruscant, the hero learned the news that his wife was pregnant. After this, Anakin increasingly began to be tormented by visions where he saw the death of Amidala. Because of them, the Jedi wanted to gain access to the forbidden holocrons of the masters of the past. This was facilitated by Palpatine, who appointed Skywalker as his representative on the Jedi Council. This meant that Eni was supposed to become a master, but his rank was still not raised.

The final point in the distrust of the Council was when the Jedi asked Anakin to keep an eye on his friend Palpatine.

The Jedi turned to Yoda for help. He spoke of his prophetic visions of someone close to him dying, but did not reveal his identity. Yoda advised him to learn to let go of everything he was afraid of losing. Skywalker was not satisfied with this answer.

Despite the Council's warnings, Anakin continued to spend time with Palpatine, who began to develop a dark side within him. The Chancellor told the story of Darth Plagueis (his teacher) who had the power over death. This story made Anakin think that the dark side could save Padme's life.

When Palpatine revealed his identity as Darth Sidious, Lord of the Sith, offering Skywalker the path of the dark side to save his beloved, Anakin refused, reporting everything.

Windu, along with Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin and Kit Fisto, were supposed to arrest the Sith when Anakin was supposed to remain in the Temple. But, naturally, he did not listen. Tormented by thoughts of Amidala's death, Skywalker followed the Jedi. Arriving at the chancellor, the hero discovered Windu, who was about to kill Palpatine. The fear of losing Padme overpowered Anakin when he cut off the master's hand and allowed Palpatine to win.

It was already too late to repent; there was no turning back. Palpatine explained this as the purpose of a Jedi and suggested joining the dark side. The Sith Lord promised to reveal the secret of power over death, so Skywalker agreed to become Darth Sidious's student in order to save Amidala's life.

So, Anakin Skywalker “died”, becoming legendary.
