When playing at the amateur (non-classified) level, it is acceptable to use heavy darts weighing over 50 grams, but this exception is made for darts made to order and in non-championship play conditions. As for semi-amateur and professional games, the use of darts weighing over 50 grams is grounds for non-admission or disqualification of a player. Each side in the game starts with a score of 301 (option 501). The scoring method is to subtract the received number of points from the remaining ones until one of the players reaches 0. The game must be completed by throwing at the “double” or the “bull’s-eye” of the target so that the number of points received reduces the score to zero (“the bull’s-eye” is counted for double 25).

I would recommend initially choosing very light darts weighing 18-20 grams (usually brass ones are made at this weight), since heavier ones will quickly tire your hand out of habit (yes, yes, the difference between 18 and 23 grams is felt immediately!). Classic dart targets are made from compressed sisal - fibers from the agave plant. Solid sisal is glued to a chipboard base. The array may contain seams, this is natural, but on expensive targets the technology of seamless fabric formation is used. The absence of seams slightly increases the durability of the target.

The design of the target also includes a rigid wire mesh that delimits the sectors. This is the main classifying feature of the target. The mesh (“spider”) can be made of round, rarely elliptical, triangular or lamellar (“blade”) wire.

The first three types of nets are attached to the target from the front side with brackets that pierce the canvas and are secured in the chipboard base. When the darts hit the wire (it turns out to be surprisingly easy to hit a 1mm thick wire exactly!) the net begins to gradually deform and move away from the target. Targets with round wire are more susceptible to this effect and targets with elliptical and triangular wire are less susceptible to this effect. The mesh must be removed periodically (once every 3-4 months), straightened and put back in place, possibly changing the places where the staples are hammered in.

The lamellar mesh is welded at the factory and attached to the chipboard base with long hidden spikes. In this case, the mesh for the most part is located directly in the sisal mass and protrudes from it only about a millimeter. This mesh does not deform from hits and does not come out of the sisal. But the main thing is that the probability of getting into it is much less than into a regular mesh made of round wire.

I would advise you to buy a target with a plate grid. You might be put off by the price. Yes, such targets cost one and a half, or even twice as much as basic targets with round wire. But firstly, since these targets are the flagships of the model range, the quality of their manufacture (especially the center of the target - the Achilles heel of cheap targets) is much higher. This target will simply last you longer. And secondly, do you know how annoying it is when a dart bounces off a round wire? Oooh, it's better not to know this :)

Personal experience. The cheapest target with a round wire mesh lasted me about five months. After this time, the reticle not only became deformed, but the center of the target swelled. The expensive (two and a half times more expensive) target that was purchased after this has been used at work (for two users) for a year without any significant complaints. How to hang a target

To reduce the noise level, it is recommended to cover the back side of the target with porous material and make soft porous gaskets between the legs of the target and the wall, as well as in the “saddle” of the central screw. However, such measures are required very rarely, for people who are very sensitive to noise. Light darts reduce the noise level best :) Darts weighing 20-22 grams are heard only when they hit the wire. Of course, you don’t need to play before nine o’clock in the morning or after ten o’clock in the evening.
