Part 1. Preparatory
1. Find an inspiring subject to draw
It happens that you have already prepared everything, but you cannot find an object that would inspire you. This should be taken care of in advance. Something interesting is probably lying around in cabinets and desk drawers. Look for items at estate sales, consignment stores and grocery stores. Study paintings by your favorite artists.
The selection should include items that are pleasant to look at: this is important for creating successful work.
An interest in color and shape will motivate you as you work on your painting. There is a connection between feelings for an object and the ability to reveal your abilities. You can do more than you think.

2. Get to know brushes and paints
Take a soft round brush and a bristle brush in your hands and compare their bristles. Squeeze some acrylic paint from the tube onto the palette. Try applying undiluted paint with different brushes to canvas or watercolor paper. The strokes should be bright and bold. Feel the differences in strokes with different brushes. Add a little water and apply the strokes again. Medium consistency paint has the same color intensity as undiluted paint, but its texture is smoothed out. And do this exercise again with a weak paint solution. Notice how quickly the paints dry the first, second, and third times.

Try applying paint with different brushes - soft oval, synthetic thin, bristly flat. Try each brush until you are confident that you know which brush to use to achieve the design you have in mind.

3. Useful techniques for working with the palette
The colors in the paintings we see are usually obtained through mixing: the pure color from the tube is usually too intense. These techniques will make it easier for you to get the color you want.
- 1 Squeeze the paint from the tube onto the edge of the palette, leaving space between the colors. Use the center of the palette for mixing. Make batches farther apart to prevent unwanted mixing.
- Apply pure color to the brush from the edge of the palette, and not from above or from the middle of the squeezed out “sausage”.
- Intense dark colors such as black (although it is not scientifically considered a color) should be added with caution; even a small amount can significantly change the color being mixed.
- You need to mix the colors together until the mixture becomes completely homogeneous.
- Don't skimp on the paint. Squeeze out as much as you need - usually this is a circle the size of a ruble coin (for whitewash - the size of a five-ruble coin). Paint consumption is an integral part of the painting process. If you save too much, you will never learn how to use paint.
4. Learn to get neutral colors
In any picture there are neutral colors - “visually gray”. Due to their low intensity, they are invisible at first glance, but they are the most useful tool for creating a harmonious color composition. Let's see how to achieve this.
Mix blue and orange in any proportion. Now let's try to change the color temperature by proportionally warm and cool colors in the mixture. If the result is more purple, try making a rusty color by adding more orange paint and then whitewash for a lighter peach color. If the first step produces a rusty color, add blue to create a cool color, close to purple, and then white to create a light violet-gray.
Repeat the previous steps for another pair of complementary colors - yellow and purple, red and green.
Pairs of complementary colors are connected by short vertical strokes. The colors of each pair are mixed with each other to create two neutral colors, each of which was dominated by one of the parent colors - these are located to the right of the corresponding parent. Illustration from the book
5. Primary, secondary and tertiary colors
Draw a circle, then divide it into three equal sectors. Paint the upper sector with cadmium yellow medium, the lower right one with ultramarine blue, and then mix the main red from naphthol crimson and cadmium red light and paint the lower left sector with it.
On the color wheel of primary colors, draw semicircles with centers at the intersection of the sector boundaries with the outer contour of the color wheel. Fill these semicircles with secondary colors, placing them above the “parents”: cadmium red light above the border between red and yellow, dioxazine violet above the border between red and blue. Add yellow to the green FC and fill in the green semicircle above the border between yellow and blue.
The primary color, when mixed with the adjacent secondary color, produces a tertiary color. Add one triangle on each side of the semicircle, making a total of six. Color in each triangle based on the labels.

6. Start with abstractions
Abstraction is an interesting and simple way to prepare for working on a realistic piece. It is important to choose 3-4 colors that you like in order to feel an emotional connection with the painting. Draw a continuous angular or rounded line over the entire surface of the sheet with a simple pencil. It may intersect several times.
Paint the shapes in the drawing with the colors and shades, paint consistency and brush that you like. Listen to your inner voice. The main task is to do it the way you like, forgetting about everything else.

7. Smear pattern
Beginners are often unsure how to apply strokes. The arrows in the figure show the direction that will help to achieve good depth in the depicted space using the example of a mug.

8. How to apply eye shadow
Shadows play a key role in creating a three-dimensional image: first of all, you need to learn to see and write them. There are four types of shadows:
- Own shadows located on objects. These are areas of dark tone that contrast with the illuminated parts of the depicted form. They usually have a sharp edge at the outer edge and a smooth transition at the edge of the light-colored areas of the subject. They play the main role in creating volume.
- Halftone areas- narrow, with a soft contour, located on the border between its own shadow and the illuminated area of the object. These shadows are the middle tone between the contrasting dark and light tones of the subject.
- Falling shadows- silhouettes of an object, “fallen” or thrown by it onto any surface other than itself. They give the impression that the object is on some surface.
- T Eni at the point of contact- the darkest area of the falling shadow, lying next to the object. They are responsible for the “stability” and mass of the object. These shadows are also called the accent - the darkest area among the dark tones. An accent is the dark counterpart of a highlight, the lightest area among the highlights.
To paint a shadow, apply black paint or paint of a darker color than the base color. And in the second step, cover this darkened area with the main color. The halftone black should show through under the new coat of paint, creating a colored shadow. If you want to make the shadow darker, apply more black from the clear edge of the shadow and mix with the color in the midtone.

9. How to apply highlights
To create a realistic highlight, use a dry brush with white paint to paint the lightest area on the subject as many times as necessary to achieve sufficient brightness. In the middle of the highlight, place a small dab of thick paint for extra brightness.

10. Paint pictures in your imagination
While going about your daily activities, paint pictures in your imagination. Mentally look for correspondence between the surfaces and textures you see around you and the way you work with a brush and apply paint.

Art paintings
Art - translated from English as “art”. In our country, this word is usually used to describe original paintings created without any frills. Even a novice artist can draw this.
To create it use:
- plain paper, but thick or canvas;
- acrylic paint in white and other colors;
- construction tape;
- brush;
- scissors.
You can use the paints given in the example. If you wish, take your other favorite shades to enjoy your work.
The paint should cover the entire canvas so that there are no white gaps between strokes. Let it dry well, and at this time cut the wide construction double-sided tape into equal rectangular pieces. It is better to use it, since the regular one has great adhesiveness; when tearing it off the canvas, you can remove some of the paint.
When the canvas dries, attach strips of tape to it, placing them diagonally.
After the entire painting is decorated in this way, dip the brush into white acrylic paint and cover the canvas with this layer directly over the tape. Let the work dry thoroughly. Then simply remove the strips of duct tape.
As a result, you will get a picture that the art style helped create.
If you want to paint a more subdued canvas, use only 2 colors of paint. This picture can be hung in the office or given to your boss or employee at work.

- soup plate;
- paper.
Dip the bottom of the container into pink paint and make prints on and around the branches. When the paper is dry, you can frame it and hang the picture on the wall.

You can create any of the presented ones in no more than 5 minutes, not counting the time for the paint to dry. Before you start creating, you should have at hand:
- canvas;
- leaf from a tree;
- blue paint;
- brush;
- gold paint in a spray bottle.
Then place the sheet in the center of the composition, cover the canvas with spray from a spray bottle.
When performing this stage of work, make sure that the sheet does not move under the pressure of the jet, otherwise the contours will be blurred. You can first stick it on double-sided paper tape, and peel it off at the end of the work.
When the spray paint dries, remove the sheet and rejoice at how quickly you have created such a picturesque drawing.
You can create original paintings without even using paints. For this you will only need old magazines. The design of the paintings will help make the room modern and stylish.
Cut photographs and glossy magazine posters into strips of equal thickness. Then combine them several at a time, trim them so that they are the same length.
Grease a rectangle of thick cardboard with glue and attach strips to it.
Now take a sheet of black cardboard and draw a design on it. Cut along the contours with a stationery knife.

- cardboard box;
- cardboard to make partitions;

Cut the strips so wide that they are 2 cm wider than the sides of the box. Make even cuts in two places on each one. Connect them crosswise. Bend the long side of the strips 2 cm, apply glue, and attach the dividers to the bottom of the container.
Paint the box blue. Let it dry, put the shells in the resulting pockets to figure out how best to place them.
Lubricate one cell with glue, sprinkle with sand, and glue a small shell here. Glue a pearl bead into the open shell and place it in another pocket. In the third, glue a small skein of yellow thread, and a shell on it.
The next cell will be filled with sea pebbles, also place them on glue. Using the same material, fill in the gaps between them, placing small beads here.
Coat shells and stones with varnish to give them a wet look. If desired, highlight the upper edges of the partitions with white paint to give the product contrast.
The work is complete, now you can hang the panel on the wall.
Watercolor art painting - an easy way
The following will help you create such original paintings:
- canvas;
- watercolor paints;
- glue;
- rock salt.
When dry, it absorbs the pigment from the paint and thereby creates a very interesting effect. These are the beautiful paintings that come out as a result. Children will feel like real creators when they work with this technique.

How to make a picture frame?
For this you need to prepare:
- thick cardboard;
- stationery knife;
- salty dough;
- toothpick;
- plastic knife for plasticine.
First salt dough recipe:
- wheat flour - 1 cup;
- water – 1 glass;
- fine salt - 2 cups;
- dry wallpaper glue - 1 tbsp. l.
- wheat flour - 2 cups;
- water -3/4 cup;
- fine salt - 1 cup.
The dough needs to be kneaded very well, then it will become elastic, will not stick to your hands and tear during work. Do not store salted dough for a long time, otherwise it will acquire a grayish tint.
Roll it into a rectangle 5–7 mm thick, attach it to the frame, cut off the excess with a knife. From the rest, let the child form a “sausage”, giving it an oval shape, then cut 8 mm thick blanks from it, giving them the shape of leaves. Then, using a plastic knife or toothpick, draw veins on them.
You need to cover the picture with a frame made of salt dough, and then moisten the contact points with water and stick the prepared leaves here, and on top - flowers made from the same material.
All that remains is to dry the frame elements and you can put the drawing into it.
Children's painting
Talent can and should be developed in children from an early age. This is the picture drawn by a girl who is only 2 years and 7 months old.
And children 3-4 years old will be able to create something like this on this topic.
The technology for making detailed paintings is very interesting. First, prepare the following materials with your child:
- A3 sheet of paper;
- palette;
- gouache;
- a jar of water;
- saucer;
- foam rubber poker;
- brushes No. 5–8;
- potatoes;
- paint brush;
- a cloth;
- glass of such a size that it is larger than a sheet of paper.
Let's get started with the interesting action. Here's how to paint a picture in an original way. Moisten the glass with water, let the child cover it with a brush with strokes of white and blue gouache, while mixing the paints a little. While they are still wet, cover the glass with a sheet of paper, press it over the entire surface, and then separate it and place it with gouache facing up.

Let one of the elders paint one branch, and the child, as if catching up with the adults’ brush, begins to follow the same path and learns to paint a tree and branches.
The next step on the path to drawing a children's picture will be no less interesting. Take a small and a large potato and cut each in half. Pour red gouache into a saucer. Let the child dip the root vegetable into it, cut side down, and make prints on the sheet. In this case, a large potato will help create the body of the bird, and a small one will help create its head.
Do not remove the root vegetables from the sheet; now let the child paint the backs and tails of the bullfinches with blue paint. The child will not go beyond the internal boundaries, since the lying potatoes block this path, so the head and chest of the birds will remain red.
Now you need to draw black paws for the bullfinches, and depict the snow using a poke. Dipping it into white paint, you need to leave light imprints on the sheet with point movements.
Here's how to quickly and interestingly draw such children's paintings, which you can then frame with a salt dough frame and hang in a prominent place in the house.

Artificial flower paintings
The easiest to make are paintings made from artificial flowers or other decorative elements. The main thing here is to beautifully glue the finished parts onto the base.
For this technique you will need a frame, a plain material and the image itself. Cover a sheet of paper with fabric, wrapping its edges and gluing it on the back side.
Then, having first removed the glass from the frame, insert the base of your picture into it and glue artificial flowers or other details (shells, dry twigs, etc.) to it. Finally, you can decorate the frame with beads.
