Cole Sprouse with long hair. New name: Riverdale star Cole Sprouse

Some celebrities manage to go through rehabilitation centers at almost childhood, admit to alcoholism, bisexuality and God knows what else. Having a lot of money and complete freedom, they choose to post endless selfies, simultaneously complaining about their difficult life, write stupid essays and engage in other nonsense.
The story of Cole and his brother is not typical of Hollywood.

I saw Cole in the series Riverdale, as I thought, for the first time. The series as a whole is average, some characters are artificially caricatured, others, on the contrary, are too faded and wooden, and some plot twists sometimes seem forced.

But there are some pleasant exceptions:

1st - actors playing the parents of the main characters, who are familiar to many. They burn worse than their children).

Mädchen Amick as authoritarian mother Alice Cooper (Shelley in Twin Peaks)

Skeet Ulrich as biker, alcoholic and generally a man with a dark past FP Jones, he's awesome (Billy from the movie Scream)

Molly Ringwald as Mary Andrews (Molly - star of cult 80s teen films - The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink)

Luke Perry as Fred Andrews (Dylan in Beverly Hills 90210)

2nd - the hero of the post, Cole Sprouse, in the role of the introverted misanthrope Jughead Jones. Jughead is the smartest and most adequate character, maybe that’s why he gets the most. Because of him, in fact, I watched the series.

Having Googled Cole, I discovered that I had seen this guy more than once, but now I didn’t recognize him at all.

Cole Mitchell Sprouse was born on August 4, 1992 in Arrezo, Italy, he is 15 minutes younger than his twin brother Dylan Thomas Sprouse. Parents are Americans who taught English in Tuscany. Four months later, the family returned to America, Long Beach (California). In 1997, their parents divorced, and the brothers remained to live with their father and stepmother. We started acting in films and on TV at the age of 8 months (!!!) on the initiative of our mother.

Their first big role was in the film Big Daddy with Adam Sandler, where the twins played the same character Julian, aka Frankenstein. A touching story about the friendship of a child and an infantile adult received positive reviews and grossed $234 million at the box office against a budget of $34.

Cole (without Dylan) played Ben Geller, Ross's son on Friends, the one who pestered Rachel. According to Cole, he was constantly nervous and forgot his lines because he really liked Jennifer Aniston.

But the real breakthrough for the brothers was a contract with Disney. The sitcom Everything Is Top, or The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2005-2008) turned them into idols for children and teenagers.

The sequel Everything is tip-top, or Life on Board (2008-2011) surpassed Hannah Montana with Miley Cyrus and Wizards of Waverly Place with Selena Gomez in ratings.

The brothers became the highest paid actors on the Disney Channel, in 2007 and 2010 they were recognized as the richest child actors. There was also a full-length film based on the series, books, a magazine, clothes - in general, the standard set of a young star.

The brothers are still friends with Ashley Tisdale. Attended her wedding.

Cole and Dylan became the most famous twins after Mary-Kate and Ashley.

When the twins grew up and their contract with Disney ended, they took a break and left show business, moving from Los Angeles to New York. In 2011 they entered New York University. Cole studied archeology, and Dylan studied video game design. We graduated in 2015 with honors (golden tassels are given to graduates with particular academic success).
While studying, Dylan worked at a local restaurant, which led fans to suspect him of going bankrupt. To which he replied that everything was fine with finances, and work was just a way to get out of the house.

At the graduation ceremony, we swapped places and received each other’s diplomas)

"When you work your entire childhood, going back to school is important because you are adapting to society, adapting to yourself. Studying was a way to go against the image we had when we were younger. Some people go to study, some travel the world, others study religion. Immersing myself in archeology and photography became my way of self-discovery."

Photography is another of his hobbies. I started taking photographs during my first year at university during hikes and expeditions.
As a photographer he works with the IMG agency. His Instagram account consists almost entirely of his work. Some of them:

(about modern young photographers)
"The only difference between an artist and a pervert is the easel in front of him. Your photographs are now just sex, what would you be if you took your camera away... a regular pervert? Social media has contributed to the increase in hyper-sexual images, so it is now much easier to become a photographer, it becomes more and more monkeys coming out of the bushes to push their sexual preferences through the VSCO filter. High-quality nudity is filled with powerful subtext and tension, an example of interesting shapes and lighting. Looking at the work of average photographers, what do you see? A sea of homogeneity, hundreds of men photographing the same type of women "You use your camera like your genitals, no wonder your work looks so flaccid."

Fresh and relatively recent photos (over the last 2-3 years).
Attention!!!
Some photos and GIFs contain scenes of smoking. Remember that smoking is harmful, leads to yellow teeth, a lot of diseases and possibly a shorter life, unless of course you are Keith Richards)

(about life and study in New York)
"I think the idea that you can study anything is the most useful thing. When you're in the acting industry and you're making a lot of money and you decide to be successful, you start to think that there's nothing else to do, there's no more need to try nothing new, you no longer need to learn something else or be interested in something else. Because if you continue to do the same as before, then the fame will be stable, the income will be stable and again! you no longer need to stress. Moving to New York was amazing because it taught me what an asshole I was and how spoiled I was, which was absolutely necessary.Being able to learn something different showed me what it was like to actually feel a sense of fulfillment. And no one here gives a shit. Nobody cares who you are. If you are a good person, then you are a good person. If you are an honest person, then you are an honest person. But you can't run away, take off your sunglasses and announce that you're here for a freebie. And this is good. Nobody deserves this. It won't teach you anything."

Bree Morgan (ex-girlfriend, met at university).

"A lot of Disney actors and actresses, when they stop working on the channel, start to have a real dislike for people to remember them from the Disney Channel. They try to reinvent themselves through Wrecking Ball style performances or drugs or displaying wild antics, I think that stupid. Being remembered for something is already a great success for a person. I don’t mind that someone will associate me with Disney, especially since the Disney Channel has brought a lot of joy to a lot of small children, who are undoubtedly people who deserve more joyTotal."

After graduation, Cole was faced with the choice of working at a natural resource management laboratory in Brooklyn, or a new TV series, which his agent persuaded him to try out for. He chose cinema. Riverdale was filmed in Canada. Renewed for a second season, filming begins in June.

A short interview with the cast of the series

"Honestly, my relationship with acting and the entertainment industry is not like most people because I've been in it for so long. It's something that's very fluid for me. If I continue to enjoy it, I'll do it. Just for a second. "It's not going to be fun or inspiring anymore and I'm going to leave. I think I'm privileged to be in that position."

Dylan has no plans to return to cinema and does not live a public life.

I wish Cole interesting projects in the future. In any case, he won’t be lost without Hollywood)

Thank you all for your attention!

Biography

The twins were born in the Italian city of Arezzo, where their parents Matthew Sprouse and Melanie Wright taught English in Tuscany. Dylan was named after poet Dylan Thomas, and Cole was named after jazz singer and pianist Nat King Cole. Dylan is 15 minutes older than his brother.

Four months later, the family returned to America, Long Beach (California). In 1997, their parents divorced, and the brothers remained to live with their father and stepmother. The first major and conscious acting experience was a role in the film “Big Daddy”, where twins played the same character (in accordance with the widespread practice in the United States of inviting twin children to play one role, which allows one to overcome legal restrictions on the length of a shooting day for a child) . After that, they had the opportunity to play several more small roles, and real success came after the roles of Zack and Cody in the teen series “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” in 2005. After successful three seasons, the sequel “Everything is tip-top, or life on board” started, where the brothers were also assigned the main roles.

Personal life

The brothers live in Los Angeles with their father and stepmother. The twins have three dogs in their family: Bubba (a bulldog), who belongs to Dylan and Cole, Pinky, their father, and Curry (a French bulldog), their stepmother. Their favorite actor and star is Adam Sandler. Dylan said that Adam is a "role model for acting" and that they learned a lot about comedy from him. In mid-2010, Dylan launched a website for his art called Sprouse Arts, and in mid-2011, Cole launched a website for his photography called Cole Sprouse Photography.

In 2010, the twin brothers were both accepted into New York University. Their original plan was to attend the university in the fall of 2010, but they postponed it by one year. Dylan originally planned to major in fine arts, while Cole planned to major in film and television production and a minor in drama. Instead, they both enrolled in the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, which allows students to plan their own curriculum. Cole devotes his time to his program in the humanities and archeology, while Dylan focuses on video game design.

Sprouse Bros

In 2005, they registered the trademark "Sprouse Bros", under which a line of teenage clothing was produced, but in 2008 it ceased to operate. Based on the series with their participation, a series of books was published, as well as a series of detective works “47 R.O.N.I.N”, telling about the adventures of two brothers Tom and Mitch.

Biography

Twins Dylan and Cole were born in the Italian city of Arezzo, where their parents Matthew Sprouse and Melanie Wright taught English in Tuscany. Cole was named after American jazz singer and pianist Nat King Cole. 4 months after Cole was born, his family moved to Long Beach, California. Cole graduated from high school in June 2010 Laurel Springs School.

Career

The Sprouse brothers began their careers in film and television early, at 8 months to be exact, thanks to their grandmother, Joneen Booth Wright, an actress and drama teacher. Moreover, the brothers always played either together, or even the same role for two.

Among the roles that Cole Sprouse shared with his brother early in his career: the role of Patrick Kelly in the television series Grace on Fire (1993-1998), the role of Julian in the 1999 film Big Daddy and little Pistachio Disguise in the comedy film The Master reincarnation." In addition to Big Daddy with Adam Sandler, in 1999 Cole played in the film The Astronaut's Wife with Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron. In 2001, Cole began appearing in episodes of the television series Friends as Ross Geller's son, Ben. This was the first role where he was not dubbed by his brother.

In 2005, he played the role of Cody Martin in the Disney Channel television series The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, where his brother Dylan played Zack Martin. The series received significant fame and a number of sequels, and Zack and Cody appeared in cameos in a number of other television projects (such as “Wizards of Waverly Place” and “Hannah Montana”).

However, in 2011, they announced a break from acting and enrolling at New York University, where Cole focused on archeology and other humanities. After graduating from university (in 2015), both brothers returned to their film careers, but now each separately.

In March 2019, the film “Five Feet Apart” will premiere in the United States, starring Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson. In Russia, the film company Volga acquired the rights to show the film.

"Riverdale"

In an interview dedicated to Jughead, Cole said that he had been familiar with Archie comics since childhood, although he admitted that they were not his favorite reading. His Jughead, unlike the one in the comics, is less passionate about food. However, according to Cole, he tries to chew something small in each episode to remind his character of this hobby.

The most interesting thing was the situation with Jughead Jones's headdress. Archie comics began in the early 1940s, and Jughead wore a felt hat with a zig-zag cut and raised brim, the so-called "Whoopee cap", popular in the pre-war years. Over the years of publication of the comic, this headdress completely fell out of use and became associated only with Jughead. In the series, Jughead wears a modern wool hat, but the brim is cut and folded in the same way as it was from the beginning. Cole Sprouse says, “The beanie (Cole calls it a beanie crown) seemed more modern and more appropriate for the show. They are still connected. It's still weird. It’s a completely different hat, but the essence remains the same.”

The selection of actors turned out to be successful - the series received generally positive reviews, and both leading actors were awarded awards. Cole Sprouse received the Teen Choice Awards for 2017 for his role as Jughead Jones in two categories at once - “Best Actor in a Drama Series” and “Best On-Screen Couple” (shared with Lili Reinhart).

Personal life

Since 2017, Cole has been dating his Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart.

  • Cole has been snowboarding since he was 4 years old.
  • He attended New York University at the same time as Camila Mendes, his Riverdale co-star. However, at that time they were strangers.
  • Cole dyed his hair black for his role in the TV series Riverdale. In fact, he is a natural blond.

American actors, best known for their roles as twins in the series “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “The Suite Life on Deck”

The brothers got their first acting experience thanks to their grandmother, who was an actress in her youth. The first major and conscious acting experience was a role in the film “Big Daddy”, where twins played the same character (in accordance with the widespread practice in the United States of inviting twin children to play one role, which allows overcoming legal restrictions on the length of a filming day for a child) . After that, they played several more small roles, and real success came after the roles of Zack and Cody in the teen series “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” in 2005. After successful three seasons, the sequel “Everything is tip top, or life on board” started, where the brothers were also assigned the main roles.

Personal life

The brothers live in Los Angeles with their father, stepmother and three dogs.

Dylan is studying acting in New York, Cole is learning French and plans to actively pursue an acting career.

In 2005, they registered the Sprouse Bros trademark, under which they produce a line of teenage clothing. Based on the series with their participation, a series of books was published, as well as a series of detective works “47 R.O.N.I.N”, telling about the adventures of two brothers Tom and Mitch.

But his real breakthrough was the series Riverdale, which is now receiving critical acclaim. Viewers note a new perspective on well-known situations, difficulties in accepting oneself and social interaction among high school students.

About personality development:

From an early age, Cole was involved in voice acting for cartoons and also worked actively in advertising. During his teenage years, he began landing roles in popular Disney series and by 2011, along with his twin brother, he had achieved the status of the highest paid child actors.

After this event, Cole decided to take a break from all the hype and, together with his brother Dylan, entered New York University, and also concentrated on his hobby - photography.

Dylan and I made a conscious decision to step away from the industry for a while. And we entered an educational institution, a very prestigious one, I must say, because they wanted this to be a kind of step towards success. But because we didn’t choose acting or vocals, many people took it negatively, even saw it as a kind of failure, because everyone thinks that actors are not capable of anything else. After the series ended, people literally followed us, so we decided to distance ourselves from the industry and disappear for a while. And we were pleasantly surprised by how often people contacted us to ask where we were and what we were doing.

Cole studied archeology, and Dylan studied video game design. It seemed to both of them that they already had enough acting experience and they didn’t need to spend a few more years on education.

University doesn't teach you how to be smart. This is one of the most important lessons I learned from my NYU experience. You have always had the intelligence that you have. University simply teaches you how to use different arguments. Awareness leads to intelligence and makes you a smart and understanding person. So I guess I got that awareness.

He was prompted to reappear on the screens by a new successful project - the drama series Riverdale. Filming is based on the Archie comics, and even before the pilot was released, it was clear that the plot would attract many fans.

About your hobbies:

Surprisingly, Cole himself calls himself an archaeologist, not an actor, declaring that archeology is the profession that he wants to pursue throughout his life.

I'm an archaeologist, I studied archaeology. This is the profession I want to do and how I would like people to see me. Photography was initially just a hobby for me. Then I realized that I can make money from this, and that’s good. This way I can express myself and work as a photojournalist at the same time.

It seems strange to him to be called an “artist.” What he considers meaningful is when other photographers recognize him as a photographer, as part of the industry.

Cole loves exploring new places and photographing other people. Sometimes he even sneaks into closed spaces illegally. He has to look for places where no one would recognize him, so he loves uninhabited areas.

If you came with me to explore new places, it is likely that it would be a little scary.

It can be inspired by any photo on Instagram.

My biggest inspiration is from people my age who I work with or photograph. They really helped me develop my style. No one is completely individual, that is simply impossible. Everyone works with something that already exists and creates their own work based on it.

In addition, he worries that people will not look for sexual connotations in his work - as a guy, he photographs beautiful girls.

About freedom:

New cover and interview for #ASOS magazine. Sell lemonade, earn cash, and then spend it all on this publication. Send a magazine to your enemies, send a magazine to your friends, fold me into origami swans, it doesn't matter because it's too late, you've contributed to capitalism.

He openly talks about many things that are still considered taboo in our society. For example, about the importance of revealing different sexuality in cinema.

There's nothing he won't post about on social media because he's afraid of being judged, whether it's discussing erections or joking about how his twin has a brain the size of a nut.

Sometimes before I leave home, I wave goodbye to my laptop camera just to make an FBI agent's day better. Friendliness is contagious, you know.

Jokes aside, he's also outspoken on politics, speaking out about the need for net neutrality, and supporting women in the #metoo movement.
