Any plant material is good in itself, in its, so to speak, original form. Nature presented in it all possible forms with symmetry and asymmetry, color and texture, and even aromas. Therefore, the desire to bring this perfection into your home and somehow capture it in pictures is understandable.
Floristics- this is a special type of creativity. It combines a reverent attitude towards all living things, observation, the ability to see the beautiful, unique in every small blade of grass and an artistic perception of the world as a whole. Floral painting has such an arsenal of expressive means, so many techniques and creative techniques that, perhaps, no other type of fine art has.
Creating compositions from dried flowers as a form of traditional art has existed for many hundreds of years in Japan. There it received the name “osibana” (mistake), which translated means “pressed flowers.” In China and its neighboring countries, Thailand, Korea and others, the making of pressed flowers has been a separate, highly revered craft since ancient times.
Plants that are suitable for planar floristry can be collected throughout the year, because each season has its own beauty and possibilities. Spring will give you dried leaves from wild plants. In summer you can dry flowers and collect poplar fluff for compositions. Autumn is “red”, which means colorful autumn leaves from trees like oak, maple, rowan and brightly colored fruits. In winter, seeds are collected from ash and maple trees. As the main background, you can use all available means - beautiful paper, whatman paper, interesting pieces of wallpaper, anything will do.
Planar floristry- this is not only painstaking work, but also a pleasant, exciting activity. To join this art, you do not have to be a professional artist. You just need to understand the texture of natural materials and learn to combine them organically and thus become a co-author of nature itself.
Using available tools and materials, you can create your own unique compositions that can decorate your interior or serve as a wonderful gift.

Rules for collecting and drying plants

To create interesting works, it is absolutely necessary that natural materials be as diverse as possible, differing in texture, shape and color.
Plants that will later become “paints” are collected from early spring to late autumn, even at the beginning of winter. It is necessary to remember several rules for collecting and drying plants.
1. Plants can only be collected in dry weather.
2. Dry stems and leaves separately from flowers. Dry asteraceae (marigolds, poppies, lilies) in parts, separating the petals. Dry daisies, violets, umbellifers, cereals, heather whole.
3. Place plants between sheets of paper so that they do not wrinkle. Press down on top with a weight whose weight can range from 4-5 to 10-15 kg. The air temperature is not lower than 22-24 degrees. In autumn and winter, it is necessary to dry plants near heated radiators. After a day, check the quality of drying of the plants, if necessary, change the paper - and so on until the plants are completely dry for 2-3 weeks.
4. There is no need to throw away plants that have lost their natural appearance. The entire palette of pastel shades can be useful in your work.

Master Class

To make an application from dried plants you will need the following tools and materials:
- scissors (large and manicure);
- tweezers;
- medium soft pencil;
- base material (thick cardboard);
- material for decorating the picture (frame with glass, 2-3 mm thick);
- PVA glue;
- brushes or thin sticks for glue;
- press-dried plants (corn cob wrappers, leaves of viburnum, poplar, burdock, maple, strawberry, grapes, lilac, rose petals, twigs of wormwood, birch, birch bark, cattail).

Attention! All plants are interchangeable, so if the listed plants are not on hand, you can replace them with similar ones in color and texture.
Before starting work, we make a sketch with light strokes on thick cardboard with minimal elaboration, taking into account the opportunity to improvise during the work. We outline the contours of the image, paying special attention to the main lines and shapes - the horizon, the foreground.

We depict the sky with birch bark of different shades (from white to beige). To do this, we use the inner and outer parts of birch bark. We try to combine colors so that they smoothly transition into each other, achieving the effect of blurry clouds. We generously coat the inside of the birch bark with glue and glue it to the base according to the outlined contours. For more thorough gluing, after each stage it is necessary to put the work under the press for some time.

Apply a primary layer to depict the water surface. We use the inner part of the bark of a slightly rotten birch tree. It already has the colors and shades necessary to depict ripples on water.

We depict the shore in the foreground. We use a set of leaves of green shades (from light to dark) of various plants.

We depict the forest in the background. To get a picturesque background for the next stage of work, we use leaves of yellow and green flowers. We place them horizontally.

Let's return to a more detailed study of the water surface. Creating a sunny path. This is the lightest part, so we lay it out using the outer side of white birch bark. For darkened parts of the water, dark shades of birch bark are needed. The inner layer of rotted bark is perfect for this.

We move on to a more thorough study of the forest in the background. To depict numerous aerial plans and various types of trees, we will use dark poplar leaves; grapes, lilacs, yellow leaves of autumn birches, red maple leaves. To depict a coniferous forest, different types of wormwood (white and green) are suitable. We glue all the leaves vertically.

We begin to work on the boat, which is located in the background. First, draw it on paper, cut it out and glue it slightly to the left of the middle.

To depict the boat we use dry autumn cattail leaves. Let's start with the body. The boat is made of wood, so it is necessary to depict this in the work. On the outside of the boat we will lay out boards of gray-brown leaves, placing them horizontally. The boards in the inner part of the boat are in the shade, so we use dark brown leaves. We will paste light stripes along the entire perimeter of the top of the boat to show the thickness of the wooden base. In the inside of the boat it is also necessary to depict three boards for sitting: stern, rowing and bow. To do this, we use beige leaves, placing them perpendicularly.

On the shore, in the background, we place three birch trees made from the outer layer of white birch bark. We cut out the desired shape of the trunk with scissors and glue it according to the composition.

We are working on the structure of tree bark. Old trees have many irregularities, various cracks, and tubercles, which, of course, should not be ignored. We line them with birch bark of different shades. We place darker pieces of birch bark on the shady side of the trunks. We mark dark lines and spots on the tree bark, trying to place them as chaotically as possible.

Let's move on to the crown. When depicting trees, we must take into account the anatomical structure and the shape of the branches characteristic of birches. We form the crown from poplar and birch leaves using the hand-plucking technique. On the crown of the tree we add thin hanging branches. At the same time we depict birches in the background. We use the same set of leaves. We stick to the same technique.

We are working on the second boat, using the same techniques, materials and work techniques as on the first. We depict the shadow of the boat on the surface of the water, which is covered with light ripples. To emphasize this, the material used is uneven and broken. For this effect, torn birch bark was used on the inner part of the dark bark, and the outer, lighter part was used to depict highlights.

Let's move on to a more thorough study of the foreground details. We place a bush at the base of the tree and next to the boat. The density of the herbaceous cover is conveyed by plants of different shapes and textures: white sweet clover, oregano, dandelion, grass-like plants. We lay out small islands from climbing decorative indoor plants in the background.
Now everything has fallen into place, and the composition can be considered complete.

We insert the finished picture into a frame under glass.

Paintings made from dry leaves are a very interesting way of using natural materials, which gives wide scope for creativity to both children and even adults.

A beautiful picture of leaves on the theme “Autumn” is obtained when the work is built in several successive stages.

At the first stage of making a painting with our own hands, we will turn an ordinary white sheet into a bright base for applique. First, let's give the sheet the desired shape and size.

Now we place it on the work surface.

And with a simple pencil we draw the outlines of the drawing. We need a silhouette of a princess girl with a fluffy skirt. We transfer the girl’s face and shoulders onto tracing paper or thin white paper. You can use carbon paper to get exactly the same features. We put it aside - we will need them later.

In the meantime, we start coloring our sheet. Apply water to the drawing.

We apply the brightest and richest shades of watercolor to it (without looking at the contours of the picture). Then, while the paint is still wet, sprinkle the paper with fine salt.

And leave it to dry.

As a result, we will get a colorful background with original patterns.

Now we take well-dried small leaves (for example, birch leaves) and begin to lay out the princess’s skirt with them.

To make the picture more interesting, we use combinations of leaves of different shapes.

When the skirt is half pasted over, we will need the silhouette of the face and neck that we drew earlier. We cut out a blank from white cardboard according to this silhouette.

We draw facial features.

We decorate the hair and crown of the princess with leaves or pine needles.

“Sew” the sleeves to the dress.

Making a bust.

And we continue to paste over the skirt.

Dark leaves can be used to apply various patterns on the dress.

And we make shoes from them.

OK it's all over Now! The picture is ready! Our princess is in a hurry to take part in the autumn ball.

You can make a beautiful portrait of the autumn queen from autumn leaves.

Applications from autumn leaves

A classic example of autumn leaf applique pictures is a hedgehog with apples in a clearing.

Painting from leaves "hedgehog"

You can also use leaves to make an owl on a branch, a parrot or a butterfly.

Look at the video for examples of autumn leaf applique pictures:

In the production of autumn paintings, not only leaves can be used, but also twigs, flowers, moss and even cereals. First we need to make the base of the craft from cardboard. We cover the base with twigs, making a frame. Inside we lay out a tree of twigs.

We lay out the outline of an owl from buckwheat (sprinkle the grain onto the glue). Glue the owl's wings from moss or juniper. The beak and legs can be made from threads. We make the eyes from cardboard.

We complement our picture with leaves, moss, flowers and insect figures.

Flower men

Children love funny people. So let's tell them the secret of making cute and funny inhabitants of the flower country!

To make a flat man, you will need some flowers and leaves. They can be laid directly on the lawn or asphalt, but it is best to glue them to a paper base. This way you can take the funny applique with you and show the masterpiece to everyone: at home, in the yard, at school or kindergarten.

You can make little people as an option for one of the creative competitions. Don’t forget to take pictures of your crafts right away, because fresh petals will quickly wither and become deformed.

Flower dolls

In my childhood yard there were hollyhocks, or hollyhocks. We made dolls out of them. Manufacturing is very simple. You need a thin flexible stick for the base, several buds and mallow flowers. We string flowers on a stick in any order and get a pupa. Any flowers and leaves are suitable for making.

Fashionable looks made from petals

With older girls you can do fashion decorating. To create dresses or paintings with images of women in dresses from flower petals, just draw the outline of the dress and make a petal appliqué. It is not necessary to glue delicate petals - just lay out the desired composition and take a photo!

Postcards from fresh flowers

There are many design techniques. Complete your collection of ideas by decorating with dried flowers. Agree, it looks beautiful and unusual!

Animals made from petals

Flower petals, like bright puzzles, can be put together into a variety of images. These can be animals, birds, fish.

Paintings from plants

Having mastered the petal appliqué technique, you can move on to making paintings. This painstaking work will require time and a lot of carefully collected and dried plants. But what a great result awaits you!

Painting with flowers is called "mistake". It turns out that this is a fairly popular direction of creativity.

Oshibana or osibana is a type of floristry, the art of creating pictures from press-dried natural materials: flower petals, green and yellow leaves, stems and grass seeds.

The material for creating a picture must be prepared, i.e. collected and dried. Flowers, leaves, grass, seeds, and fluff are collected and dried under a press or in a herbarium folder so that they become flat. Leaves and flowers often change color. To obtain the desired shade, heat treatment or other methods of preserving natural beauty are sometimes used. It is important to know which plant is best to collect at what time of year. In addition, you need to collect plants in clear weather so that the plants are not wet.

How to dry plants?

1. In paper under pressure

You can dry flowers and leaves in a thick book, between pieces of tracing paper. If you need a voluminous flower - in a box with sand (daisies can be dried this way by carefully pouring sand over the flower), the dandelion is dried in the opening stage, head down, as soon as the white fluffy head opens, sprinkle with hairspray.

If you do not want to preserve the natural color of the plants, you can dry them with an iron, placing them between two sheets of paper. Just make sure the iron is not too hot, otherwise the leaves will become very brittle. It is better to iron them with a barely warm iron 3-4 times at intervals of several hours so as not to dry them out.

3. Microwave

The herbarium can be dried in the microwave, but the leaves do not always remain even and smooth, so it will be difficult to glue them.

4. In glycerin

Plants dried in glycerin will retain their shape well, but will acquire a greenish-brown tint; however, they can be painted for a decorative panel.

Dilute glycerin (sold in pharmacies) in hot water in a ratio of 1:3. Pour the resulting solution into a container at least 6-10 cm deep, lower the plants vertically, leave for several days until they darken, then dry.

Little tricks for drying herbarium:

1. When properly dried, the top of the whole plant with stem and leaves should not bend down.

2. To make the leaves denser, dip them in a solution of 20% PVA glue and water.

3. Flower buds can be dried in sand poured into a cardboard box. Of the flowers, dried red dahlias or delphinium retain their color better than others.

4. To ensure that dove-blue or bluish leaves retain their hue when dried, dip them in denatured alcohol for 1 minute.

Store plant material in sealed containers, protecting from direct sunlight, moisture and moths. Finished oshibana paintings can also fade and change color over time, so it is advisable to place them in a frame under glass and not keep them in the sun.

Artists attach (glue) dried plant material to a base (cardboard, fabric, wood), and the author creates a work of art using plants. That is, oshibana is painting with flowers and plants.

The art of oshibana originated in Japan approximately six hundred years ago. In Europe, this type of decorative and applied art was widespread during the Victorian era. In recent decades, oshibana has experienced a rebirth.

Floral artists perform in the technique wrong not only ornaments, landscapes, still lifes, but also portraits and subject paintings.

Despite its apparent simplicity, the oshibana technique allows you to create simply stunning paintings. We invite you to admire them with us.

Panel of autumn leaves, step-by-step master class

Collect fallen leaves from the street and clean them of dirt and dust. After this, wipe them well from moisture with a napkin. Prepare the base for the panel and attach the leaves to it. Immediately figure out what your composition should look like.

After this, you will need to spread glue on the surface of the base, as well as the leaves. You need to glue the leaves with the front side to the panel so that the veins are on top, and the craft can be given a relief texture.

Now apply glue to the leaves again and attach the foil. Cut a large piece of foil in advance so that there is enough for the entire base. Decorate the foil beautifully so that it fits tightly to the wooden base.

Take some black spray paint and apply it on top of the foil. After the paint has dried, you can begin to create shades. To do this, start wiping off the paint with a scraper. Try not to damage the foil itself, but don’t worry too much, you can fix everything with a black felt-tip pen or marker. Your DIY autumn panel is ready.
